  I am creating a C# window application which is based on a medical inventory.In this application I have mainly three forms as PurchaseDetail,SalesDetail,and StockDetail. • Best means to store data locally when offline

  I am in the midst of writing a small program (more to experiment with vs 2010 than anything else) Despite being an experiment it has some practical use for our local athletics club. My thought was to access the DB (currently online) to download the current members and store locally on a laptop (this is a MS sql table, used to power the club's website). take the laptop to the event (yes there ARE places that don't have internet coverage), add members to that days race (also a row from a sql table (though no changes would be made to this), record results (new records in 3rd table) Once home, showered and within internet access again, upload/edit the tables as per the race results/member changes etc. So I was thinking i'd do something like write xml files locally with the data, including a field to indicate changes etc? If anyone can point me in a direction i would appreciate it...hell if anyone could tell me if this has a name, I'd appreciate it.

  I am parsing a very large file of records (one per line, each of varying length), and I'd like to keep track of the number of bytes I've read in the file so that I may recover in the event of a failure. I wrote the following: string record = myTextReader.ReadLine(); bytesRead += record.Length; ParseRecord(record); However this doesn't work since ReadLine() strips any CR/LF characters in the line. Furthermore, a line may be terminated by either CR, LF, or CRLF characters, which means I can't just add 1 to bytesRead. Is there an easy way to get the actual line length, or do I write my own ReadLine() method in terms of the granular Read() operations?

• MySQL count problem

  I have 3 tables users(id,name),groups(id,name) and users_groups(user_id,group_id). users and groups have many to many relationship, so the third one is for storing users and groups relations. I would like to select all the data from groups with user count in each group. So far I came up with this: SELECT groups.*, COUNT(users_groups.user_id) AS user_count FROM groups LEFT JOIN users_groups ON users_groups.group_id = groups.id The problem is that query result is not returning any of groups which has no users (users_groups doesnt have any records with group_id of those groups). How should I create my query to select all the groups and they user count, or user count as 0 if there are no users for that group?

  On php page in a form, One combo box has list of my Customer from mysql table customer. Another combo box has invoiceno stored in invoice table which has respective customer records. I want to select customer from first combo box and filter invoiceno from the second one according to the customer. Any one help me for php or java or Jquery or both codeings? Means if I select customer1 then in the second combo box should show all invoiceno respective to the custermer1. No Refresh or ReLoad or Post form Pl.   Hi all I am using sql server 2005 reporting service to generate report base on a database. There are two columns which are datetime type ColumnA and ColumnB. The report would display a KPI image on this report by comparing these two columns.Below is the expression for selecting image SWITCH(DateDiff("d",Fields!ColumnA.Value,Fields!ColumnB.Value)<0,"kpi_r", DateDiff("d",Fields!ColumnA.Value,Fields!ColumnB.Value)>0,"kpi_g", DateDiff("d",Fields!ColumnA.Value,Fields!ColumnB.Value)=0,"kpi_y") For most of the records, the image is correct. Only for one record, the result is very strange. For this record ColumnA=2010-04-23 08:00:00 ColumnB=2010-04-22 17:00:00 It would display kpi_r, it displayed kpi_y. I have checked the value of DateDiff(d,Fields!ColumnA.Value,Fields!ColumnB.Value) in the SSMS, the value is -1. Why does it display kpi_y? Does anyone meet this problem before? Best Regards,

  Overview: I have a table which stores a persons "availability" for a current day, e.g. Mon - 8:00am - 11:30am Mon - 1:30pm - 6:00pm A second table stores appointments that this person already has for the same day, e.g. Mon - 8:30am - 11:00am Mon - 2:30pm - 4pm Desired result: Doing calculationsI'd like to have the following result - e.g. "this person has availability on the given day": Mon - 8:00am - 8:30am Mon - 11:00am - 11:30am Mon - 1:30pm - 2:30pm Mon - 4:00pm - 6:00pm Any ideas on how to calculate the output given the two inputs (e.g. availability, existing appointments) would be greatly appreciated. Preferably I'd use javascript on the client to do the calculating as I would believe that doing it within the DB (I'm using MSSQL) would be slow for many records, persons, etc. Hope this is enough information to illustrate the problem at hand - Many thanks in advance.

  I am using clojure.contrib.sql to fetch some records from an SQLite database. (defn read-all-foo [] (let [sql "select * from foo"] (with-connection *db* (with-query-results res [sql] (into [] res))))) Now, I don't really want to realize the whole sequence before returning from the function (i.e. I want to keep it lazy), but if I return res directly or wrap it some kind of lazy wrapper (for example I want to make a certain map transformation on result sequence), SQL bindings will be gone after I return, so realizing the sequence will throw an error. How can I enclose the whole function in a closure and return a kind of anonymous iterator block (like yield in C# or Python)? Or is there another way to return a lazy sequence from this function?

  I have a Users Table where it stores city, state and country along with other Users attributes. The states are stored as California, Alabama and so forth. Now I want to retrieve the user information for certain records but the state should get translated to two digit code. Say 'California' should be 'CA'. How should I go about doing this. I was thinking to create a mapping table for state names with there abbreviation and then use some sort of replace function to do it. Any ideas ?

  Is it possible for two different Grails project, also having different domains, to share a session/cookie? Let's say I have 2 sites: www.mycompany.com, and, www.othercompany.com. Assume that both sites are having same domains, and same database and records too. What I want to know is if this code: authenticateService.userDomain() or even the authenticateService.isLoggedIn() will behave and return exactly the same object/result whether it is called in either of the site. Basically, what we need is a solution for sharing/identifying logged in user between two different sites. Need more details on how to implement this using acegi 0.5.2 and grails 1.2.1. Hoping for any leads on this. Thank you.

  So I have this table of book orders, it contains 2 columns, one is the order ID(primary key) and another is the ID of the book that the customer ordered. For example: | OrderID | BookID | | 0001 | B002 | | 0002 | B005 | | 0003 | B002 | | 0004 | B003 | | 0005 | B005 | | 0006 | B002 | | 0007 | B002 | What I want is to get the IDs of the books that got 2 or more purchases/orders, for example if I run the SQL query against the above data, I would get this as the result: | BookID | | B002 | | B005 | I don't know if this can be archived in SQL or I have to built a simpler statement and repetitive run the query against all the records in another language.   How can I find or generate thousands of company names for testing and demo purposes? (Address, phone number, and related information would be nice too.) I've got a system I'm building which includes business contact information. Pretty common no doubt. My test/demo database currently has randomly generated individual's names loaded (thanks to a handy IRS spreadsheet I found). This has worked great for internal testing and review purposes, but it looks really odd when shown to prospective customers. I've tried various online public information sources (e.g. EDGAR, and county based property records searches), but these all require me to manually stitch together the results in blocks of 50 names or so at a time. I could do this, but was really hoping for a search service or data store out there that had this type of information readily searchable and retrievable in very large batches.

  In an effort to keep us from being labeled spammers by major ISPs (in addition to SPF records, privacy policies, CANSPAM compliance and the like) - I wanted to limit the amount of mail we send out an hour. Is this possible in W2K3 SMTP server? I was looking at outbound connection properties in the SMTP virtual server config screens...It's just not that clear if tinkering with those settings are going to do what I want. In a nutshell, I'd love mail being sent by this server to queue up and send for example, 5,000 messages every 10 minutes or so. Is this possible?

• Python implementation of avro slow?

  I'm reading some data from avro file using the avro library. It takes about a minute to load 33K objects from the file. This seem very slow to me, specially with the Java version reading the same file in about 1sec. • SQL 2008 GUID column is all 0's

  I'm hoping this is a simple goof I did on my end ... I have a table in my database set up like so: column name: widget_guid data type: uniqueidentifier allow nulls: false default value: newid() identity: false row guid: true When records are created (via LINQ to SQL) that the values in this field are formatted as a GUID but contain all 0's My assumption was that when a new record was created, that a guid would be autogenerated for that column, much like an auto-incrementing row id. Is this not true? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• what's the difference between php time and sql time

  Can anyone tell me why the timestamp generated by the php time() function is so different from SQL datetime? If i do a date('Y-m-d', time()); in php, it gives me the time now, as it should. If I just take the time() portion and do: $now = time(); //then execute this statement 'SELECT * FROM `reservation` WHERE created_at < $now' I get nothing. But hey, so if the value of $now was 1273959833 and I queried 'SELECT * FROM `reservation` WHERE created_at < 127395983300000000' Then I see the records that ive created. I think one is tracked in microseconds vs the other is in seconds, but I cant find any documentation on this! What would be the right conversion between these two?? any help appreciated.

  I have a table of over 1 million test score records that basically have a unique score_ID, a subject_ID and a score given by a person. The score range for most subjects is 0-3, but some have a range of 0-4. There are about 25 possible subjects. I need to produce a score distribution report which looks like: subject_ID 0 1 2 3 4 ---------- --- --- --- --- --- 1 967 576 856 234 2 576 947 847 987 324 . . So it groups the data by subject_ID, then shows how many times a specific score value was given within that subject. Any SQL pointers to generate this would be greatly appreciated.

• how to convert numbers to alpha numeric system with php

  Im not sure what this is called, which is why im having trouble searching for it. What im looking to do, is take numbers, and convert them to some alpha numeric base so that the number say 5000, wouldnt read 5000, but like G4u or something like that. The idea being to save space and also not make it obvious how many records there are in a given system. Im using php, so if there is something like this built into php even better, but even a name for this method would be helpful at this point Again, sorry for not being able to be more clear, im just not sure what this is called.

• Anonymous users support vs Google bot

  I have a User class in my web app that represents a user currently logged in. Every time a user vists a page, a User instance is populated based on authentication data supplied in cookies. A User instance is created even if an anonymous user logs in - and a corresponding new record is created in the User table in the database. This approach allows me to save some state info for the current user regardless of its type. The problem however with this approach is the Google bot, and other non-human web organisms crawling my pages. Every time a bot starts to walk around the site, thousands of useless records will be created in the database, each of them only to be used for a single page. Question: what is the best trade off? How to support anonymous users, save their state, and don't get too much overhead because of cookieless bots?
