• Get result from mysql orderd by IN clause

  I have the following query SELECT * FROM invoice WHERE invoice_id IN (13, 15, 9, 27) My result is: invoice_id | invoice_number | ... ------------------------------------ 9 | 201006003 | 13 | 201006020 | 15 | 201006022 | 27 | 201006035 | which is the result set I want except that is ordered by the invoice_id (which is an autoincrement value). Now I want the result in the order I specified in my query (13, 15, ...). Is there a way to achive that? The background is that I have a DataTable bound to a DataGridView. The user can filter and sort the result but if he want's to print the result I don't use the DataTable for printing because it only contains the most important columns and instead I pull the whole records from the database and pass it to my printing control. I also tried to extend the existing DataTable with the missing results but that seems to slower than using the IN (...) query.

• How does one record audio from a Javascript based webapp?

  I'm trying to write a web-app that records WAV files (eg: from the user's microphone). I know Javascript alone can not do this, but I'm interested in the least proprietary method to augment my Javascript with. My targeted browsers are Firefox for PC and Mac (so no ActiveX). Please share your experiences with this. I gather it can be done with Flash (but not as a WAV formated file). I gather it can be done with Java (but not without code-signing). Are these the only options? @dominic-mazzoni I'd like to record the file as a WAV because because the purpose of the webapp will be to assemble a library of good quality short soundbites. I estimate upload will be 50 MB, which is well worth it for the quality. The app will only be used on our intranet.   I have a stored procedure in Oracle 9i which inserts records in a table. The table has a primary key built to ensure duplicte rows doesnot exists. I am trying to insert a record by calling this stored procedure and it works first time properly. I am again trying to insert a duplicate record and expecting unique constraint violation error. But I am getting ORA-01401 inserted value too large for column I knew its meaning but my query is , if the value inserted is really large then how it got successful in the first attempt.

  So I am dumb and I have this: select whatever from bank_accs b1, bank_accs b2, table3 t3 where t3.bank_acc_id = t1.bank_acc_id and b2.bank_acc_number = b1.bank_acc_number and b2.currency_code(+) = t3.buy_currency and trunc(sysdate) between nvl(b2.start_date, trunc(sysdate)) and nvl(b2.end_date, trunc(sysdate)); My problem is with the date (actuality) check on b2. Now, I need to return a row for each t3xb1 (t3 = ~10 tables joined, of course), even if there are ONLY INVALID records (date-wise) in b2. How do I outer-join this bit properly? Can't use ANSI joins, must do in a single flat query. Thanks.

  Is it possible to provide the following type of fuctionality with informix client tools? As the user types the first two characters of a name, the drop-down list is empty. At the third character, the list fills with just the names beginning with those three characters. At the fourth character, MS-Access completes the first matching name (assuming the combo's AutoExpand is on). Once enough characters are typed to identify the customer, the user tabs to the next field. The time taken to load the combo between keystrokes is minimal. This occurs once only for each entry, unless the user backspaces through the first three characters again. If your list still contains too many records, you can reduce them by another order of magnitude by changing the value of constant conSuburbMin from 3 to 4.

  I'm using SQL server 2005 (for testing) & 2007 (for production). I have to add a unique record ID to all the records in my table, in an existing column, using a "last record ID" column from another table. So, I'm going to do some sort of UPDATE of my table, but I have to get the "last record ID" from the other table, increment it, update THAT table and then update my record. Can anyone give me an example of how to do this? Other users may be incrementing the counter also.

  Hello, I have made an application that records from the phones microphone using the AudioRecord and 16-bit encoding, and I am able to playback the recording. • Is there a best practice for maintaining history in a database?

  I don't do database work that often so this is totally unfamiliar territory for me. I have a table with a bunch of records that users can update. However, I now want to keep a history of their changes just in case they want to rollback. Rollback in this case is not the db rollback but more like revert changes two weeks later when they realized that they made a mistake. The distinction being that I can't have a transaction do the job. Is the current practice to use a separate table, or just a flag in the current table? It's a small database, 5 tables each with < 6 columns, < 1000 rows total.

• Delphi: Application error logging in the field

  Using Delphi 7, I wonder if there is a free component which will collect diagnostic information as my application runs at a remote site and will help me to debug error reports. Maybe it records each menu item selected, control clicked, text input, etc? Maybe it just dumps the stack on a crash. Maybe it does something else ... I don't mind adding code (e.g at the start and end of each procedure), as that might generate more useful info than a fully automatic system. I am not sure if the solution ought to "phone home" or if it is enough to produce a text file which can be emailed to me. Any suggestions?

Why am I seeing all table entries retrieved, and not just 1? I thought row filtering was done in the DB. If db.EntitySet really does fetch everything to the client, what's the right way to keep the client data-lite using EF? Fetching all rows won't scale for what I'm doing.

  What is the simplest way I can hide a sensitive identifier, while providing some equivalent means of identifying the data from outside? For example, lets say I have a database table with records and one of them is an sensitive ID field. ID 2A 1S etc... then I want to have a second record: ID PublicID 2A AXXX44328 1S KKKZJSAAS such that when I am given a PublicID I can always determine what ID it refers to: H(PublicID) = ID but nobody else is able to do so. Basically I'm looking for a way to create a query that is essentially a WHERE IN LIKE SELECT statement. As an example, if I wanted to find all user records with a hotmail.com email address, I could do something like: SELECT UserEmail FROM Users WHERE (UserEmail LIKE '%hotmail.com') But what if I wanted to use a subquery as the matching criteria? • Hiding result sets from multiple selects in a stored procedure

  I have a stored procedure that retrieves SQL queries as text and executes the statements using sp_executesql. Each of the dynamic queries is a count query in that it only returns the number of records found (select COUNT(id) from...). I am looping through a set of SQL queries stored as text and building a table variable out of the results. At the end, I am selecting all the results from the table variable as the result set that I want returned from the stored procedure. However, when I execute the stored procedure, I am naturally getting multiple result sets (one for each of the dynamic queries and one for the final select.) Is there any way I can suppress the results of a select statement executed through sp_executesql? I have found answers that reference storing the results in a temp table, but I don't have control of the query text that I am running so I can't change it to select into anything. Please help.
