  • Programming CLI Commands in Program [C / LINUX]

    I am attempting to make a program in C which presents a GUI and allows the user to select from a list of applications, which to install on the computer. I can manage the gui, but I've never been taught how to actually issue command line commands. I know with bash its just apt-get install firefox for example, but how do I do such a thing with C? i.e. on click, the program runs 'apt-get install The other problem is I'm not familiar with the proper name for this interaction, so it is hard to search.   • Linux apache developing configuration

    Recenly reinstalled my system, and came to a point where I need apache and php. I've been searching a long time, but I can't figure out how to configure apache the best way for a developer computer. The plan is simple, I want to install apache 2 + mysql server so I can develop some php website. I don't want to install lamp though, just the apache2, php5 and mysql. The problem that I've been looking an answer for is the permissions on the /var/www/ folder. I've tried making it my folder using the chown command, followed by a chmod -R 755 /var/www. Most things work then, but fwrite for example won't work, because I need to give write permissions to everyone, unless I change my global umask to 000 I'm not sure what I can do. In short: I want to install apache2, php5, mysql-server without using lamp, but configured in a way so I can open up netbeans, start a project with root in /var/www/, and run every single function without permission faults. Does anyone have experiences or workarounds to this? Extra: OS: Ubuntu 10.04 ARCH: x86_64

  • How to archive old revisions from Apache SVN on linux server

    I have a site through which user can write their own Screenplays. This screenplays are saved in the form of revisions. Apache SVN has been installed. I want to save only the last 5 revisions for every user's document. But the problem is on the backend the all the revisions are stored in one folder called "Docsrepo" and its classified as 1000 revisions in 1 folder. and like this it has 234 folders. Meaning 234*1000 revisions. Now I want to archive all of this revision to keep only the last 5 revisions of each document. How do i do that?

  • linux (centos) privilege to copy file

    I need some help with priviligies in centos I have a file in home/admin/public_html/generate.php that I want to do some file copy with using php copy function When I set the file to chown admin:admin generate.php I can access the file but I cannot execute the php copy command because I don't have the proper rights. When I set the file to root:root generate.php I cant access the file beacuse its under admin user folder home/admin/public_html/generate.php how do I solve please, thankful for any help. Bottom line is that I want my generate.php which is owned by admin:admin to be able to copy files from sources outside its home dir and to other home dirs I am using CENTOS

  • Batch convert Malformed PDFs to TIF on Linux

    I need to convert a multipage PDF to TIF, but it appears to be a malformed PDF provided by our client. I tried using ImageMagick and GhostScript, but they do not convert the file correctly. The result is only about 85-90% correct. The only thing I've found that appears to do the job is GIMP, but I can't find an example to use it via its Batch Processing methods for PDFs. I've got a solution, but it's not very efficient. (It takes several minutes to run.) I'm looking for a more efficient solution. Any suggestions?

    I'm trying to write program to work as programmable directory, in other words: User, or other systems open that directory and read/write files or dirs. I try to create program to cache most used files in memory (less I/O to HDD), but right now I don't know how to achive that. There are probably some docs about this but I can't find them. Those files are, sadly, readable by root only. Is there any way to access the touchpad while in user-mode?

    I want to develop a program that will run on the background of my Ubuntu 12.04 so when some text is selected in some textbox of any running program and some key-combination is pressed (like ctrl-F12), the text will be cut, reversed, and pasted in the same place. I know some programs that do it on windows. It is useful in some programs and web-pages that do not support right-to-left languages like arabic and hebrew - the letters are printed from left to right so the text becomes reversed. More specifically I need it in Prezi that has this kind of bug in their embedded flash editor (I thought about writing a chrome-plugin, but I don't think such plugin can manipulate the selected text inside a flash objects). Do you know if such a program exist? Where should I start reading in order to develop a program with such capabilities (manipulate selected text in other programs)? Thanks

Right now I have 5 different versions listed on the GRUB, even though I always select the latest version to work with. Am I supposed to do anything to get rid of the old version references? Do these old versions affect disk space/performance?

    I am working on unix. I want to knwo the current cpu usage of a process. I understood that ps give the average of cpu used till the process is up - it is not the current usage. Is there a way to print only the cpu from the top command without 10 more parameters and headers? I know how to do it with awk - this is not the way i want to do it. top -p 20705 -bc -n 1 | tail -n 2 | awk '{ print $9}' | head -n 1 If there is another simple way to do it, not reading /proc/stat... If there is a simple way doing it from c++, it is also ok.

    Hello, I'm currently having some issues with a Java application I'm developing. Namely the JVM is crashing with a segfault. I'm trying to locate the hs_err.log file which should contain some helpful info about the issue. However, I can't find this file. I've used find, locate, etc, and nothing. Any ideas on why the log file isn't being generated?

    I am currently porting some Windows mobile C++ code to standard C++. So I am trying to find alternatives for windows specific functions. I have had very little luck in finding a standard C++ function that can help me replace the WSAGetLastError() windows specific function. WSAGetLastError() returns error numbers for errors that occur with sockets in windows. So I was wondering if anyone was aware of a way to replace this function in standard c++? A way to get different error numbers for different outcomes of connecting/dissconection a socket would be sufficent.
