  • Can't Install libcurl PHP on Ubuntu Linux

    - by FranticPedantic
I am trying to use the new facebook api and it requires libcurl PHP. I used sudo apt-get install php5-curl sudo apachectl -k restart And it didn't work. I get the same error and the phpinfo() page says nothing about libcurl. The source of this problem is probably that I built some of the tools from source (apache2, php), but then I got bored so installed a lot of the extensions with the package manager. But I'm not exactly how to go about diagnosing the point of failure. The apt-get install for curl definitely worked, and can be found in /usr/lib/php5/20060613/curl.so I think a lot of my confusion stems from not knowing which files go where, and what purpose they have. Any help would be appreciated, and please tell me if I need to provide more information. edit: The specific error I get is: Exception: Facebook needs the CURL PHP extension. from line if (!function_exists('curl_init')) { throw new Exception('Facebook needs the CURL PHP extension.'); } Ubuntu: 9.10 PHP: 5.2.13 Loaded Configuration File: /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini

  • Create a thumbnail of a dwg in in a linux envrionment

    - by Kyle
Creating a ruby on rails site that uses RMagick to create thumbnails for many types of images. RMagick cannot read dwg files however. I've tried a few things, looked into the Java library JDWGLib, which would probably allow me to write a converter, but it would be a total from the ground up solution, where I just need a thumbnail. Also considered using a viewer program to open the file in a remote X session and do a screen capture, however I'm not sure how I could ever guarantee that the viewer had completed opening when I took the screenshot. I'm not concerned with being able to manipulate the file other than to create the thumbnail. It is going to be used for commercial purposes, so any libraries used need to be compatible.

  • Invalid argument when calling linux splice()

    - by benny wallace
    Hi I wanted to try out the splice syscall. I have this function - it should copy content of one file to another: static void test_splice( int in, int out ) { int i = 0, rcvd = 0; int filedes[2]; off_t off = 0; if ( pipe( filedes ) < 0 ) { perror( "Kicha pipe" ); exit( EXIT_FAILURE ); } for ( i = 0; i < NUMLOOPS; ++i ) { if ( ( rcvd = splice( in, NULL, filedes[1], NULL, BUFSIZE, SPLICE_F_MORE | SPLICE_F_MOVE ) ) < 0 ) { perror( "splice" ); exit( EXIT_FAILURE ); } if ( splice( filedes[0], NULL, out, NULL, rcvd, SPLICE_F_MORE | SPLICE_F_MOVE ) < 0 ) { perror( "splice" ); exit( EXIT_FAILURE ); } } } The second call to splice in first iteration returns EINVAL ( invalid argument from perror ) everytime - what could be the reason?

  • What are the best options for a root filesystem hosted on SSD under Linux

    - by stsquad
I'm working on an embedded system which is going to be booting and hosting it's rootfs on an SSD disk. We are currently looking at using Intel X-18M SSDs. The file system structure will have a fairly static /usr section (modulo software upgrades) and an active /var and /var/log for maintaining state and logging. Given the wear-levelling done by the underlying flash does having separate partitions help or hinder? As modern SSDs appear as straight block devices and hide their mapping magic behind their firmware is there any point trying to optimise the choice of file-system that sits on-top of the SSD? Finally does enable SMART monitoring make any sense in this context or are their SSD specific ways of determining the underlying health of the storage hardware?

  • MP3 Resampling in Linux

    - by sharon
Hello folks. Tonight I am working on my music collection. I would like to resample a large selection of my MP3's to 192Kb/s for my Zune. I know the obvious way to do this is a recursive function using lame to encode MP3 at 192 - but lame doesn't maintain the ID3 tags! Does anyone know of another option that will retain ID3 info? Thank you all for your time / help!

  • What's the best self-tracking software for Linux?

    - by trench
I'm looking for a way to track myself and receive quality data upon which I can write future scripts/programs. For example, I use Google Reader a lot. I'd like to track the hrefs that garner my clicks. Further, I'd like to drop all of the words of each href into a database where they can be stacked in a hierarchical manner. At the end of the week I want to know that "Ubuntu" garnered 448 clicks and "Cheetos" garnered 2. :) That's just one example... I'd like this tracking and data-collecting to extend beyond my browser. I know writing something to do this myself wouldn't be too awfully difficult but if something already exists I'd happily use it. Thanks in advance. Primary OS: Ubuntu 10.04

  • Different Linux message queues have the same id?

    - by Halo
I open a mesage queue in a .c file, and upon success it says the message queue id is 3. While that program is still running, in another terminal I start another program (of another .c file), that creates a new message queue with a different mqd_t. But its id also appears as 3. Is this a problem? server file goes like this: void server(char* req_mq) { struct mq_attr attr; mqd_t mqdes; struct request* msgptr; int n; char *bufptr; int buflen; pid_t apid; //attr.mq_maxmsg = 300; //attr.mq_msgsize = 1024; mqdes = mq_open(req_mq, O_RDWR | O_CREAT, 0666, NULL); if (mqdes == -1) { perror("can not create msg queue\n"); exit(1); } printf("server mq created, mq id = %d\n", (int) mqdes); and the client goes like: void client(char* req_mq, int min, int max, char* dir_path_name, char* outfile) { pid_t pid; /* get the process id */ if ((pid = getpid()) < 0) { perror("unable to get client pid"); } mqd_t mqd, dq; char pfx[50] = DQ_PRFX; char suffix[50]; // sprintf(suffix, "%d", pid); strcat(pfx, suffix); dq = mq_open(pfx, O_RDWR | O_CREAT, 0666, NULL); if (dq == -1) { perror("can not open data queue\n"); exit(1); } printf("data queue created, mq id = %d\n", (int) dq); mqd = mq_open(req_mq, O_RDWR); if (mqd == -1) { perror("can not open msg queue\n"); exit(1); } mqdes and dq seem to share the same id 3.

  • Best tool to check and ensure PDF/A compatibility under Linux

    - by Sven Lilienthal
I am working on an online portal, where researchers can upload their research papers. One requirement is, that all PDFs are stored in PDF/A-format. As I can't rely on the users to generate PDF/A conforming documents, I need a tool to check and convert standard PDFs into PDF/A format. What is the best tool you know of? Price Quality Speed Available APIs Open-source tools would be prefered, but a search revealed none. iText can create PDF/a, but converting isn't easy to do, as you have to read every page and copy it to a new document, losing all bookmarks and annotations in this process. (At least as far as I know, if you know of an easy solution, let me know). APIs should be available for either PHP, Java or a command-line-tool should be provided. Please do not list either GUI-only or Online-only solutions.

  • Haxe app and Gtk-WARNING on linux servers

    - by Cambiata
Hi! I'm trying a Haxe-compiled solution called FAR (Flash Archiver) created by Edwin Van Rijkom (http://code.google.com/p/vanrijkom-flashlibs/) wich uses a command-line tool for creating compressed archives. When running the FAR tool locally on my ubuntu laptop, everything works fine. When running remotely (terminal as Root) on my Ubuntu and Debian servers, it gives the following error: Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: I've tried to reach Edvin about this, but no response so far. Maybe it has something to do with installation or user rights on the server? Any clue?

  • SSH into Ubuntu Linux on a box without a static IP address

    - by Steven Xu
Basically, how do I do it? I'd like to connect to my home computer from work, but my internet is routed through my apartment building's network, so I don't have the static IP address I'm accustomed to having. How do I go about accessing my home computer through SSH (I'll be using Putty at work if it matters) if my home computer doesn't have a static IP address?

  • Best compiled language for Mac OS X and Linux compatibility

    - by corydoras
We need to write some software that will compile and run on both an Mac OS X server and Ubuntu. We would love to use Objective-C with all of its Cocoa goodness, however the GNUstep implementations of the parts we are using are broken (in the latest Ubuntu package anyway.) In light of this should we use C++ (I would really rather not), C or something else that we have not thought of? It is a server/back-end process that is very resource intensive, Java and other interpreted versions of this software perform much worse than the Objective-C proof of concept we have written, hence we now wish to re-write in a "compiled[1]" language. (NB: Some people might consider this subjective, however at the end of the day we do need to get a job done, there has to be a reasonably appropriate correct answer here). [1] Compiled to native CPU instructions, not compiled into "byte codes" that then have to be run by an interpreter.

  • What does the "build-essential" & "build-dep" Terminal commands mean & do in Linux based operating s

    - by Adam Siddhi
    Hi. I am researching how to install Ruby 1.9.1 in Xubuntu 10.04 and I came across the command build-essential and build-dep multiple times. Sometimes it is followed by packages and sometimes it is both preceded and post-ceded by packages. The 2 examples I am looking at are: sudo apt-get install build-essential zlib1g zlib1g-dev zlibc libruby1.9 libxml2 libxml2-dev libxslt-dev sudo apt-get build-dep ruby1.9 and sudo apt-get install ruby irb ri rdoc ruby1.8-dev libzlib-ruby libyaml-ruby libreadline-ruby libncurses-ruby libcurses-ruby libruby libruby-extras libfcgi-ruby1.8 build-essential libopenssl-ruby libdbm-ruby libdbi-ruby libdbd-sqlite3-ruby sqlite3 libsqlite3-dev libsqlite3-ruby libxml-ruby libxml2-dev Thanks :adam

  • How to ACTUALLY install Java on Linux?

    - by Camran
I have a Ubuntu Server. From the terminal, how should I install JDK? In this guide it says to use this command: sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin sun-java6-jre sun-java6-jdk But on Suns website, it says JDK includes the JRE, so why the JRE in the line above? Anybody know how to actually install Java? Every guide and every forum shows different ways of doing it. BTW: It is a VPS (virtual private server) Thanks

  • Fetch MP3 ID3 tag under linux

    - by exic
Hi, I have a few mp3 files which are not tagged. Winamp has a nice feature which I think is called "autotag" and which is very good at finding out artist and title for files. I'd like something like this for unix, so that I could possibly get artists and titles for my untagged files. Do you know some program which does this? Thanks.

  • How to prevent Linux from deleting temporary files on shutdown

    - by Rajorshi
Hi, I am using Ubutu 10.04. I have some apps that create a few temporary files in /tmp/<file> as part of their shutdown process. I want to inspect those files when the apps are closed in the event of a system shutdown. However, when the system comes up again I find that all temporary files have been deleted. How can I ask the system not to clear the files in /tmp/ on shutdown?

  • List files recursively in linux with path relative to the current directory

    - by Darryl Hein
This is similar to this question, but I want to include the path relative to the current directory in unix. If can do the following: ls -LR | grep .txt But it doesn't include the full paths. For example, I have the follow dir structure: test1/file.txt test2/file1.txt test2/file2.txt The code above will return: file.txt file1.txt file2.txt How can I get it to include the paths relative to the current directory using standard nix commands?
