• Image processing in a multhithreaded mode using Java

  Hi Folks, I am supposed to process images in a multithreaded mode using Java. I may having varying number of images where as my number of threads are fixed. I have to process all the images using the fixed set of threads. I am just stuck up on how to do it, I had a look ThreadExecutor and BlockingQueues etc...I am still not clear. What I am doing is, - Get the images and add them in a LinkedBlockingQueue which has runnable code of the image processor. - Create a threadpoolexecutor for which one of the arguements is the LinkedBlockingQueue earlier. - Iterate through a for loop till the queue size and do a threadpoolexecutor.execute(linkedblockingqueue.poll). - all i see is it processes only 100 images which is the minimum thread size passed in LinkedBlockingQueue size. I see I am seriously wrong in my understanding somewhere, how do I process all the images in sets of 100(threads) until they are all done? Any examples or psuedocodes would be highly helpful Thanks! • Want to bind an input field to a jquery-ui slider handle

  hello, I want to bind an input field to the jquery-ui slider handle. So whenever one value changes I want the other value to also change. Ex: if someone types 1000 into the minimum value input field I want the lower slider handle to move to the 1000 mark. Also if the user drags the lower slider handle to 1000 the input field should reflect that.   Hi, this is a question for the algorithms gurus out there :-) Let S be a set of intervals of the natural numbers that might overlap and b a box size. Assume that for each interval, the range is strictly less than b. I want to find the minimum set of intervals of size b (let's call it M) so all the intervals in S are contained in the intervals of M. Trivial example: S = {[1..4], [2..7], [3..5], [8..15], [9..13]} b = 10 M = {[1..10], [8..18]} // so ([1..4], [2..7], [3..5]) are inside [1..10] and ([8..15], [9..13]) are inside [8..18] I think a greedy algorithm might not work always, so if anybody knows of a solution of this problem (or a similar one that can be converted into), that would be great. • Did Acronis True Image Home 2012 clone operation "lock" my BitLocker disk?

  After trying to clone my primary drive, which requires a reboot to proceed, BitLocker detected that the boot sector had changed and required the recovery keys. Not a good situation to be in on Sunday evening when it is your IT-department who hold the keys. After talking with the guys at IT, I have tree suspects on why BitLocker locked me out: The newly added, second hard drive in my machine. The changed boot-order in BIOS. The changes True Image did in order to do its things on boot. As an end-user, I should never have to end up in situations like these without any warning. I would like to know what really happened, so I can inform Acronis on how they can improve their product to avoid this situation in the future.

  Given a cubic bezier curve P0,P1,P2,P3 with the following properties: • Both P1 and P2 are on the same side of the line formed by P0 and P3. • P2 can be projected onto the line segment formed by P0 and P3 but P1 cannot. What is the T value for the point on the curve farthest from P3? Here is an image with an example curve. The curve bulges on the left, so there is a point on the curve farther from P3 than P0. I found this reference for finding the minimum distance from an arbitrary point to a curve. Is trial and error the only way to solve for maximum distance as well? Does it make any difference that the point is an anchor on the curve? Thanks

• How to properly use CoreData validation & error framework ?

  I've created a model in Xcode, and for various attributes I have minimum & maximum values defined and that are enforced by coreData at runtime. I'm using NSManagedObject validateValue:forKey:error to check for user input values. I was a bit disappointed to see that the localized error message is not specific, and I get a "The operation couldn't be completed. (Cocoa error 1620)" for too small values and a "The operation couldn't be completed. (Cocoa error 1610)" for too large values. It's written in the coreData documentation that "you can localize most aspects of a managed object model, including entity and property names and error messages". Unfortunately it's not very detailed on how you implement it for error messages. So How do you customize error message ? How do you localize them ? Is it possible to customize it in a way where it will mentioned the reference value ex: "Value should be lower than %@" or "Value should be higher than %@" ?

  i have a form, and i want to have it be limited at 10 characters minimum. that is no problem, but what i want to do is echo the error at the top of the page, which is being included, so i cant just do: echo '<div class="error">Error</div>'; i want to have a designated div that is empty (will be on the included header page), but when there is an error it gets filled with the error text to output. anyone know how to do this not using sessions or cookies?

  Hi I've created a new WorkItem named Project that contains a field named business owner which can be any domain user. The field was created using the WorkItem XML syntax using the tag. I have a problem that only TFS valid users (as the name suggests :)) show up the the combobox in the Visual Studio form. Is there any way for me to let that box contain all domain users without having to give all users some tfs read access ? If not then what is the minimum access that I can apply in TFS that I can give to all domain users ? Or is there some other way that I can't notice ?

• Why can't I copy files from a mac to a samba share?

  I have a share set up on my ubuntu 10.04 box, and the mac can see it, connect to it, and sort of write to it. When I try to copy a whole tree to the share, I get an error saying "The operation cannot be completed because you don't have access to some of the items". If I zip the directory, and copy that over, it succeeds. Any explanation? • How to get the Three.js import/export scripts into Blender on Ubuntu?

  I have been working with 3D primitives in Three.js, but now I want to import some models. I plan on using Blender, which I have just downloaded with: sudo apt-get install blender However, I was instructed to put the import/export scripts in the .blender/2.62/scripts/addons folder, but it does not exist! .blender/2.62 does exist, but it only has a config folder. The next thing I did is manually changed the script search path in Blender's preferences from // to my homefolder/scripts, which contained the required io_mesh_threejs folder (which, in turn had the .py scripts inside). I saved the changes, restarted Blender, but still nothing: in the menu there is no mention of Three.js at all! What do I do? It would be great if I knew the installation path for Blender, because maybe I could put those scripts there manually. Where should it be installed? • Find top "n" nearby coordinates.

  I have a coordinate. I want to find the top "n" (n being a variable value) nearest coordinates out of several thousand rows stored on a MySQL database. I also want to be able to define maximum and minimum distances between the coordinate in question and the coordinates in the database. How best am I to go about this? Would it be bonkers to use PHP as I understand the syntax much better than MySQL? If I use a MySQL function, how do I move it between databases if I choose to switch servers? How is it stored? Lastly, what is the most efficient method of getting through all these coordinates accurately - the coordinates are all relatively close to one another? Thanks for your time, John.

• Using TCP Acks to measure latency to a server?

  I am trying to measure latency to a server that I don't control. This is in a colocated environment, so the latency is on the order of 500 us (.5 ms). I understand that Cisco gear frequently deprioritizes ICMP traffic, making ping times unreliable. Is there a way for me to tell if this is the case on the gear I am traversing? Can I use TCP acknowledgements to determine the minimum latency to the remote server? To do this, I would somehow need to force the remote server to send a TCP ack immediately on receiving my data.

D:\temp\package.rc This will output a whole lot of .bin files These are just cab files so we need to do a mass rename “ren *.bin *.cab” Once done select all cab files and extract to a new sub folder \extracted In \extracted you will see all the msi, msp and 7z files you need) I try to apply the msp directly with no result msiexec /p messenger.msp /a messenger.msi I also try doing a admin install with nothing being extracted.

• User account shows two Downloads folders

  I have my user account on my D drive and junction'd to the C:\users folder. I accidentally moved my profile Downloads folder (C:\users\me\Downloads) and then moved it back to its path on the D drive (C:\me\Downloads). After doing this, the directory tree for my user profile lists two Downloads directories, one located at C:\users\me and one at D:\me. I tried deleting the directory from the D drive, then restoring it from the Recycle Bin to the proper location on the C drive (actually the D drive, accessed through the junction), but it gave me the two Downloads directories again. Is there some way to fix this so that the only listing is for the C:\users\me\Downloads directory, like it was to begin with?

• Dynamic data-entry value store

  I'm creating a data-entry application where users are allowed to create the entry schema. My first version of this just created a single table per entry schema with each entry spanning a single or multiple columns (for complex types) with the appropriate data type. This allowed for "fast" querying (on small datasets as I didn't index all columns) and simple synchronization where the data-entry was distributed on several databases. I'm not quite happy with this solution though; the only positive thing is the simplicity... I can only store a fixed number of columns. I need to create indexes on all columns. I need to recreate the table on schema changes. Some of my key design criterias are: Very fast querying (Using a simple domain specific query language) Writes doesn't have to be fast Many concurrent users Schemas will change often Schemas might contain many thousand columns The data-entries might be distributed and needs syncronization. Preferable MySQL and SQLite - Databases like DB2 and Oracle is out of the question. Using .Net/Mono I've been thinking of a couple of possible designs, but none of them seems like a good choice. Solution 1: Union like table containing a Type column and one nullable column per type. This avoids joins, but will definitly use a lot of space. Solution 2: Key/value store. All values are stored as string and converted when needed. Also use a lot of space, and of course, I hate having to convert everything to string. Solution 3: Use an xml database or store values as xml. Without any experience I would think this is quite slow (at least for the relational model unless there is some very good xpath support). I also would like to avoid an xml database as other parts of the application fits better as a relational model, and being able to join the data is helpful. I cannot help to think that someone has solved (some of) this already, but I'm unable to find anything. Not quite sure what to search for either... I know market research is doing something like this for their questionnaires, but there are few open source implementations, and the ones I've found doesn't quite fit the bill. PSPP has much of the logic I'm thinking of; primitive column types, many columns, many rows, fast querying and merging. Too bad it doesn't work against a database.. And of course... I don't need 99% of the provided functionality, but a lot of stuff not included. I'm not sure this is the right place to ask such a design related question, but I hope someone here has some tips, know of any existing work, or can point me to a better place to ask such a question. • Option do not show schema names in SQL Server Management Studio

  I love the fact that tree and list controls in Windows allows incremental searches. Just select a starting point, and type, and the control will select the best matching node for you. This works in SSMS, but there's an annoying problem, especially so in the table node. SSMS prefixes all table names with the schema name and a dot. To make an incremental search here, I have to type 'dbo.', followed by whatever I'm searching for. Is there an option to turn off this table name representation in SSMS? I hope I'm asking this on the right stack exchange site. If you feel it's off base, let me know!

• How to define a varying length of the string in XSD pattern?

  The input XML tag must be validated for a pattern which is like this: type : positive int / decimal, minimum length is 0, max length is 12(before decimal point), fraction digits are optional if exist then precision must be 2. This means both positive integer and Decimal numbers(2 digit precision) are allowed. so the acceptable values can be like, null, 0, 0.00, 1234567890, 123456789012, 123456789012.12, invalid values are: 0.000, 1234567890123(13 digits - invalid), The pattern I have designed is: <xs:pattern value="|([0-9]){12}|([0-9]){12}[.][0-9][0-9]"/> The problem with this pattern is, it doesn't allow the number with string-length less than 12, it says "1234567890" is an invalid value, where as it must be allowed!

• VMware ESXi 4 On-Disk Data Deduplication - possible and supported?

  Environment: We are running multiple web, database, and application servers which usually share a pretty common installation (gentoo linux) and similar configuration in VMware ESXi 4. The differences are usually only some installed features or differing component versions. To create a new server, I usually choose the most similar (by features) running server, rsync a copy of it into freshly mounted filesystems, run grub, reconfigure and reboot. Problem: Over time this duplicates many on-disk data blocks which probably sums up to several 10's of gigabytes. I suppose if I could use a base system as template with the actual machines based on top of that, only writing changed blocks to some sort of "diff image", performance should improve (increased cache hit rate) and storage efficiency should increase (deduplicated storage space). This would be similar to what ESXi already supports for RAM deduplication (page sharing). Question: Is there any way to easily do this on ESXi 4? I already share the portage tree via NFS but this would not work for the rootfs.

• .NET Decimal = what in SQL?

  What's the best data type in SQL to represent Decimal in .NET? We want to store decimal numbers with up to 9 decimal place precision and want to avoid rounding errors etc on the front end. Reading about data types, it appears using Decimal in .NET is the best option because you will not get rounding errors, although it is a bit slower than a Double. We want to carry this through down to the DB and want minimum conversion issues when moving data through the layers. Any suggestions?

• Minimal Lunix distribution with sshd and apt

  When I signed up for my Debian Linux VPS hosting and first logged on and invoked ps aux, there was the only user process running: sshd. As I can see, this was minimal Linux with only two things installed and configured: sshd and apt (plus all dependencies, of course). I want to build (or use existing) similar Linux distro, any advice on how to build (or pick) one? Googling "minimum linux", or "linux with sshd only" usually brings up Debian's netinstall, which is not what I want. Thanks in advance.
