    Some of my Large icons and extra large icons in windows 7 have gone blank. Nothing shows up in their place. The media icons are fine, thumbnails are created, tho My Computer can't show an icon for my drives when i ask it to show them in Large and Extra Large formats. Also I can't change my computer desktop, it's just black. Which system files have been damaged, how can i replace them?

  • Estimate compressed file size in tar.gz

    I've got a set of .tar.gz files, which are duplicity backup files (either full backups or incremental ones). I'd like to compute which directories take the most space on backups. This will most probably be a different figure to calculating which directories take the most space on a live filesystem because I need to account for how often are files changing (and therefore taking space on incremental backups) and how compressible are files. I know that while many other archive formats store compressed files as different entities inside the archive file, .tar.gz files do not, and therefore it is impossible to get an exact amount of storage taken in the archive by a single file after compression. Are there any tools to calculate at least some estimates?

  • Allow access from outside network with dmz and iptables

    I'm having a problem with my home network. So my setup is like this: In my Router (using Ubuntu desktop v11.04), I installed squid proxy as my transparent proxy. So I would like to use dyndns to my home network so I could be access my server from the internet, and also I installed CCTV camera and I would like to enable watching it from internet. The problem is I cannot access it from outside the net. I already set DMZ in my modem to my router ip. My first guess is because i'm using iptables to redirect all inside network to use squid. And not allow from outside traffic to my inside network.   • Munin with postgresql 9.2

    I am trying to set up Munin to collect stats on a server with postgresql 9.1 and 9.2 (the server is currently running 9.1, have tested on a fresh VM with 9.2 to rule out some weird problem on the running server. I had to patch some of the plugins for 9.2 due to renamed columns (e.g. procpid to pid), but that's no problem). Munin is installed from the EPEL repos, postgres from the official one. Both up to date. When I run the plugin individually via munin-run (e.g. munin-run postgres_size_ALL ), it works completely fine. Looking at /var/log/munin/munin-node.log, this is the output: Error output from postgres_size_ALL: DBI connect('dbname=template1','',...)failed: could not connect to server: Permission denied Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"? at /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/Munin/Plugin/Pgsql.pm line 377 Service 'postgres_size_ALL exited with status 1/0. I am now out of ideas... the socket definitely exists, and pg_hba.conf is set to allow all users/databases from localhost with trust.

  • lm-sensors - always returns 32 degrees (celsius) for temperature

    On my VIA EPIA motherboard (using VIA VT8231 ISA bridge), I get strange output for the lm-sensors temperature reading. It always returns 32 degrees (celsius). I have previously had correct output for temperature (my munin graphs show temperatures typically in the range of 50 to 60 degrees. I've tried uninstalling (and purging) the lm-sensors package, have re-run sensors-detect a number of times and rebooted but nothing seems to change the output. I am running Ubuntu Karmic Koala (9.10).     I am using SUN storage and recently upgraded/refreshed my ISCSI LUN storage. We have replicated old storage to new storage and attached to our servers.   • Internet slowed down because of SQUID Server setup

    Recently I have setup a squid server for our office. I have computer (A) with two ethernet cards, one for internet and the second one for local networkIt has Ubuntu server OS with squid-server and dhcp3-server installedI have added few iptable rules to work like a router and redirect all http traffic to 3128 port This link is my reference. Everything worked fine for 2 days. All of a sudden internet speed went down drastically. When I connected the internet cable to my laptop to test the internet speed it was fine. Again when I reconnected it back to computer A everything was normal. This happened 4 times in a week. Could anyone here please help me why the internet speed is going down and it becomes normal when I reconnect the cable. EDIT: Rebooting the system (computer A) didn't make a difference. I have changed iptables so that http traffic doesn't redirect to 3128 port any further, still no change in the internet speed. I think the problem is not with squid but with something else.     I'm currently set up with a CentOS box that utilizes mcrypt to encrypt/decrypt data to/from the database. In my haste, I forgot that I also need a solution to encrypt files (primarily pdf, with a xls and txt file here and there). Is there a way to utilize mcrypt to encrypt uploaded pdf files? I understand the possibility of file_get_contents() with txt; is a similar solution available for other formats? Thanks!

I have the ToC set up fine, but is there a way to have it update automatically (at document open, save or otherwise)? Word help suggests that it should update upon opening the document, but that doesn't seem to happen. Any ideas?

    When I copy some drawing in Illustrator, it stores it in clipboard in 3 formats: bitmap, device independent bitmap and enhanced meta-file. If drawing contains text, then meta-file version has no anti-aliasing. Below are examples in MS Word OneNote has no "Paste Special" so it always paste in EMF. Is it possible either to tell OneNote to paste not in EMF, or tell Illustrator to use anti-aliasing while storing picture with letters?

  • Cron won't use msmtp to send emails in case of failed cronjob

    I'm trying to configure a machine so that it will send me an email if one of the cronjobs output something in case of an error. I'm using Debian Wheezy. Cron is working normally (without the email functionality). msmtp is installed and configured. Have already symlinked /usr/{bin|sbin}/sendmail to /usr/bin/msmtp. I can send email by using: echo "test" | mail -s "subject" [email protected] or by executing: echo "test" | /usr/sbin/sendmail Without the symlink (/usr/sbin/sendmail) cron will tell me that: (CRON) info (No MTA installed, discarding output) With the symlinks I get: (root) MAIL (mailed 1 byte of output; but got status 0x004e, #012) Can you suggest how to config the cron/msmtp pair? Thanks! EDIT: Note: I've written "msmtpd" by mistake. Its not a daemon but rather an SMTP client named just "msmtp" (without the "d" ending). It is executed on demand and it is not running in the background all the time. So it looks like that the msmtp client is working properly. It has to be something in the cron/msmtp integration, but I have no clue what that thing might be. Can you help me?

  • Can you plug DVD/Game system into an LCD?

    All the LCD's in our house have DVI and VGA inputs. None support S-Video or any analog formats. Our game systems (nes, snes, n64, ps, ps2, gamecube, etc..) and DVD and VHS players only have composite (the yellow/red/white cords..?) or S-Video (that PS2-input like cable..?). How can I convert the signal these analog systems output to work on VGA or DVI?

    WinRAR is good at searching for a string in text files(java, xml, txt etc.) within an archive and it supports multiple archive formats. (rar, 7zip, winzip etc) Is there some way to extend this feature (by means of plug-ins etc) to search within Pdf & office files (doc, ppt), Or any other similar unzip tool which has this feature? (Extracting the entire archive & searching using Windows search is always one option)

  • Migrate Palm m500 data into MS Office Outlook

    I have a rather old Palm m500 PDA that I have been considering replacing with a Blackberry, as it has been slowly starting to fail. I already have decided on which model I want, but the problem is that the information in Palm Desktop 4 (what of it is actually exportable) is in a legacy database format that can't be migrated to MS Office Outlook 2007. Is there a converter that will spit out an Outlook-importable file, or is there a free Windows PIM that happens to support importing/exporting both formats?

  • Trouble cloning a Macbook Pro hard drive

    I am trying to upgrade the 250GB hard drive in my MacBook Pro (early 2008 model) to a 750GB drive. I have connected the new drive via an external USB enclosure. The drive is recognized fine, I can format it, etc. However, every time I try to clone the drive, I am getting Input/Output errors. Before the clone operation, I have verified both the internal and the external drive using Disk Utility, and they both check out fine. After the clone operation, the external drive shows multiple "Invalid node structure" errors: I have tried two approaches for cloning the drive: Using Disk Utility, by starting from the OSX install DVD Using Carbon Copy Cloner The outcome is the same in both cases. The Carbon Copy Cloner logs show a handful of the following types of errors: rsync: mkstemp "<... an external filename ...>" failed: Input/output error (5) rsync: stat "<... an external filename ...>" failed: Input/output error (5) The actual files affected seem to be different across different runs of the application. Before the last run, I used Disk Utility to (once more) reformat the external drive and explicitly overwrite it with zeros, but this made no difference. I also tried running a surface scan in Tech Tool Pro overnight. It got about 2/3 of the way through before I had to disconnect the drive (had to take my MacBook Pro to work), but so far it didn't report any bad blocks. Assuming it scans the drive in the same order in which blocks would be allocated during actual use, it seems like if bad blocks were to blame for the clone failures, they should have been found already (given that the source drive is only 250GB). As a last attempt, I may try SuperDuper as well, although my understanding is that it uses the same underlying rsync approach as Carbon Copy Cloner, so it's unlikely to perform any better. Are there any other things I should try before I send the drive in for a replacement? Could these problems be caused by my internal drive, even though it works fine and checks out fine in Disk Utility?

  • Sound out of sync after merging multiple mp4 files with Avidemux

    I am trying to join (merge) two or more .mp4 files together, without re-encoding. Here is what I did: Started Avidemux 2.5.5. With File-Open, selected Input1.mp4. I received this message - "H.264 detected. If the file is using B-frames as reference it can lead to a crash or stuttering. Avidemux can use another mode which is safe but YOU WILL LOOSE SOME FRAME ACCURACY. Do you want to use that mode?". I chose "No". With File-Append, selected Input2.mp4. I received the same "H.264 detected" message again and chose "No". Selected the Format to MP4 (from AVI). Saved the output file (called Output.mp4) with File-Save-Save Video. Unfortunately, when I play the Output.mp4 video in VLC, the sound is out of sync with the second video. How can I correct this?
