• PHP set timeout for script, set_time_limit not working

  I have a command-line PHP script that runs a wget request using each member of an array with foreach. This wget request can sometimes take a long time so I want to be able to set a timeout for killing the script if it goes past 15 seconds for example. I have PHP safemode disabled and tried set_time_limit(15) early in the script, however it continues indefinitely. I've given up troubleshooting set_time_limit() and was trying to find other ways to kill the script after 15 seconds of execution. However, I'm not sure if it's possible to check the time a script has been running while it's in the middle of a wget request at the same time (a do while loop did not work). Thanks for any tips!

• Better way to set unix permissions when deploying war file

  We have a vendor application where we download their updates and deploy a war file. We are deploying the war file on a unix application server running oracle application server 9i. I believe when we deploy the war file, we remove the previous install and then deploy the new war file. When we deploy the war file, sometimes we have to manually set the unix file permissions for the class and other files. We do this so all the unix user ids can run the processes they need. Is there a better way to do this?

  I have two collections a and b. I would like to compute the set of items in either a or b, but not in both (a logical exclusive or). With LINQ, I can come up with this: IEnumerable<T> Delta<T>(IEnumerable<T> a, IEnumerable<T> b) { return a.Except (b).Union (b.Except (a)); } I wonder if there are other more efficient or more compact ways of producing the difference between the two collections.

  Simply put, if you try to read the value of a get variable, what happens if said variable had not be put into the URL. Example: you request the page test.php, in that file it tries to read the value of $_GET['message']. What happens in this case? dose the value just get returned as ''? Dose this mean, that if I am always expecting a value to be entered, and am not willing to accept a value of '' that I can just do something like $foo = $_GET['bar']; if($foo == ''){ // Handle my 'error' } else { // $foo should now have a value that I can work with } Please bare in mind I know that I could use isset($_GET['bar']) But I don't just want to know if it is set, I don't care if it is or not, I just care if it has a value that is more then just an empty string.

  I am looking for an efficient way to determine the position of the least significant bit that is set in an integer, e.g. for 0x0FF0 it would be 4.   I'm trying to fetch some Data of a Oracle 10 Database. Some cells are containing german umlauts (äöü). In my Administration-Tool (TOAD) I can see them very well: "Mantel für Damen" (Jacket for Women) This is my C# Code (simplified): var oracleCommand = new OracleCommand(sqlGetArticles, databaseConnection); var articleResult = oracleCommand.ExecuteReader(); string temp = articleResult.Read()["SomeField"].ToString(); Console.WriteLine(temp); The output is: "Mantel f?r Damen" Tryed on Debugging (moving mouse over variable), Debug-Window, Console-Window, File. I think I have to specify the Encoding/Character Set somwhere. But where?

• Checking if language is set in url with regex

  I have am working on a multi language file. My urls look something like this: http://www.mydomain.com/en/about/info http://www.mydomain.com/nl/about/info Now I use a small regex script that redirect the user when they use a link without language. The script looks like this: preg_match('~^/[a-z]{2}/~', $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] This finds out is there is a language set en|nl|de etc. This works fine on all links except for these: http://www.mydomain.com/en http://www.mydomain.com/nl There is no trailing slash so the regex can not find the given values. Anyone know a fix for this?

• Can't set background colour for UIView from ViewController

  I have the following code in the view controller: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; ThemeManager *themer = [ThemeManager sharedInstance]; UIView *theView = self.view; UIColor *forBackground = [themer backgroundColour]; [theView setBackgroundColor:forBackground]; } but when execution gets to the setBackgroundColor line, I get the following error: *** -[NSCFNumber CGColor]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1237c40 *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[NSCFNumber CGColor]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1237c40' There's got to be something simple that I'm doing wrong, how do I set the background colour? Do I have to subclass the view and do it in there? I'd prefer not to have the extra class, even though that is better separation of the whole model/view/controller thing. Update: value returned by [themer backgroundColour] is constructed using colorWithPatternImage:, could this make a difference?

  I have a list element in my model instance. I am using Orbeon XForms. <mypage> <list name='mylist'/> <status /> </mypage> Status can be Private or Public. In xforms:binding, I want to set relevant attribute for showing/hiding the list. The list is bound to a drop-down. If status is Private I want to show the list, if status is Public I want to hide the list. • Oracle Database character set issue with the audit tables on Debian

  I've got Oracle XE installed on Debian linux and the character set is configured to AL32UTF8. There are several client applications that connects to a database from Windows with the different locales - French etc, not English. That's ok with all the client data these applications put into database, nothing converted and text data in French represents correctly. But texts in audit tables looks like '??????' if contains any not-english character. I suppose this is because audit records go to database in the different locale and it's not dependent on the client's globalization/locale settings. How this globalization issue can be fixed? thanks!

  Assume I have a set of weighted samples, where each samples has a corresponding weight between 0 and 1. I'd like to estimate the parameters of a gaussian mixture distribution that is biased towards the samples with higher weight. In the usual non-weighted case gaussian mixture estimation is done via the EM algorithm. Does anyone know an implementation (any language is ok) that permits passing weights? If not, does anyone know how to modify the algorithm to account for the weights? If not, can some one give me a hint on how to incorporate the weights in the initial formula of the maximum-log-likelihood formulation of the problem? Thanks!

Based on the variables sourced from that file, I would try to launch application. But somehow the variables are not getting sourced as echo does not return any values.   Hi, I have a website using asp.net mvc in which I need to embed a flash file in view. I am unable to set the relative path for the flash file. If I use code behind( default.aspx default.aspx.cs) in a different solution with the same folder strucuture, browser is able to load the flash file.   Consider a simple result set from a mysql query. rs("description") and rs("description").Value should be considered as the same thing. However, depending on how you access them, you get different results (!!) Access rs("description") directly and you are returned a "Field" object. Or, more importantly, use it directly in a call, and you are returned a "Field" object. mydescription = rs("description") + " is the description" Assign it to another variable, and the Value of that object is assigned... mydescription = rs("description") the contents of "mydescription" is a string. Why this difference? At one point in the life of ASP they must have both worked exactly the same, so why have they changed, and how can I change it back?

  I'm doing some specific signal analysis, and I am in need of a method that would smooth out a given bell-shaped distribution curve. A running average approach isn't producing the results I desire. I want to keep the min/max, and general shape of my fitted curve intact, but resolve the inconsistencies in sampling.   For several reasons, a lot of "webmaster guides" (like Google and Yahoo!'s webmaster guides/guidelines) repeats several times that it is better to always put the width and height attribute of the img tag. One of the most obvious reason is that the elements in the page won't seem to be "jumping around" to a new location after every picture is loaded (always setting the correct width/height sure gets rid of this behavior). And there are other reasons to follow these guidelines / best practices. So: if we consider that these are indeed good practices if there are a lot of pictures and they are changing often if pictures aren't changing between two .war re-deploy (that is: there's no user-contributed picture) if we don't want to manually edit all these width/height attributes How do we automatically/programmatically serve HTML pages where every img tag have their width/height attribute correctly set as the best practice recommend?

  I have two models, product and order. Product - cost - id Order - cost - product_id Each time someone places an order, it captures the product_id through a radio button value in the "new order" form. In the controller when creating the new order it needs to set order.cost to order.product.cost. Logically I thought the code should be something like this: def create ... @order.cost == @order.product.cost ... end However I can't seem to make it work at all, hence me asking the question here.   I am trying to reset some values in a form using the a4j:actionParam tag. But it seams that null values never arrive in the target bean. The converter receives it correctly, returns null, but it is never set in the bean. The target is to fill in the start and endDate for different predefined values (last week, last month etc). • Set window to stays always on desktop on windows7

  Hi, I'm trying to set my window a child of the desktop, and i'm doing this like this: HWND ProgmanHwnd = ::FindWindowEx( ::FindWindowEx( ::FindWindow(L"Progman", L"Program Manager"), NULL, L"SHELLDLL_DefView", L""), NULL, L"SysListView32", L"FolderView"); SetParent(m_hWnd, ProgmanHwnd); This works fine in windowsXP, my window is underneath all windows and when i press the "show desktop" option the window shows and all other "normal" windows are hide. But in Win7 when i do the above code the same window is not displayed, in spy++ i can see that my window is a child window of the SysListView32 but it not display (and it has the WM_VISIBLE style)? What i'm missing? or what changed from winXP to win7? how can i do this to work on win7? Update: It's got something to do with aero theme, because if i change the desktop theme to the basic then the window is displayed, but if i switch back to one of the aero theme then is hided again. If Node = B, then B has one of two possible meanings. --If Node = A has been previously found in the file, then the value for A should be sent as 1. --If Node = A has NOT been found in the file, the the value for A should be sent as 2. where file is the xml source to be transformed I cannot figure out how to do this. If I was using a programming language that allowed for a variable to have its value reassigned/changed, then it is easy. But, with XSLT variables are set once.
