• Regular Expression for finding phone numbers

  Hello Everyone, I am new to Stackoverflow and I have a quick question. Let's assume we are given a large number of HTML files (large as in theoretically infinite). How can I use Regular Expressions to extract the list of Phone Numbers from all those files? Explanation/expression will be really appreciated. • Use Google AppEngine datastore outside of AppEngine project

  For my little framework Pyxer I would like to to be able to use the Google AppEngine datastores also outside of AppEngine projects, because I'm now used to this ORM pattern and for little quick hacks this is nice. I can not use Google AppEngine for all of my projects because of its's limitations in file size and number of files. A great alternative would also be, if there was a project that provides an ORM with the same naming as the AppEngine datastore. I also like the GQL approach very much, since this is a nice combination of ORM and SQL patterns. Any ideas where or how I might find such a solution? Thanks.

• Eclipse CDT printing selected C code snippets/functions

  Is there a quick and dirty way to print(to dead trees) selected code (C in this case) snippets? In particular, I wanted to print about 200 lines worth of code, but print dialog only offers printing of particular pages or all pages, but not selected text! Of course, one can copy and paste into another editor, but that seems rather harsh. Also, one can output the whole shebang to .pdf but that again seems a way of doing things wrong. Perhaps there is a better way? System: Ubuntu 10.04, Eclipse 3.5 with CDT, Subversive plugin

• Hierarchical Data in MySQL is as fast as XML to retrieve?

  i've got a list of all countries - states - cities (- subcities/villages etc) in a XML file and to retrieve for example a state's all cities it's really quick with XML (using xml parser). i wonder, if i put all this information in mysql, is retrieving a state's all cities as fast as with XML? cause XML is designed to store hierarchical data while relational databases like mysql are not. the list contains like 500 000 entities. so i wonder if its as fast as XML using either of: Adjacency list model Nested Set model And which one should i use? Cause (theoretically) there could be unlimited levels under a state (i heard that adjacency isn't good for unlimited child-levels). And which is fastest for this huge dataset? Thanks!

• How to handle concurrency control in ASP.NET Dynamic Data?

  I've been quite impressed with dynamic data and how easy and quick it is to get a simple site up and running. I'm planning on using it for a simple internal HR admin site for registering people's skills/degrees/etc. I've been watching the intro videos at www.asp.net/dynamicdata and one thing they never mention is how to handle concurrency control. It seems that DD does not handle it right out of the box (unless there is some setting I haven't seen) as I manually generated a change conflict exception and the app failed without any user friendly message. Anybody know if DD handles it out of the box? Or do you have to somehow build it into the site?

• dvi generation: no bounding box

  Hi, I wrote a research paper in latex and generated pdf using kile. It worked perfectly well. Now conference people are asking for dvi file also. But Kile's quick build process does not give a dvi file, but its 'Latex' compile process does. So I tried to compile the document, and it gave errors for includegraphics saying figure not found. When I append the correct extensions to the image names, that errors stopped coming but new errors came "bounding box is missing". I added bounding box values and now DVI file is being generated. My questions are: I have tried giving very high and low bounding box values but there is no deformation in the PDF. Why? Can I generate a DVI without giving bounding box values? • Installing Refinery CMS on Windows

  Hi all, I cannot get Refinery cms to install on my crappy Vista machine. I have followed all instructions on http://github.com/resolve/refinerycms but the bundler doesn't work because there is not gemfile (I have copied the gemfile from github but it fails at rmagick gem) and have also tried the command line instructions but it fails at rake db:setup. I have tried installing all required gems myself but this makes no difference. Can anyone give me a quick step by step on how to get it running? I have now completely removed ruby so can start afresh. I have the installers from rubyinstaller.org and have tried with both 1.8.7 and 1.9. I have mysql 5.1 installed. Much appreciated!

• large images on toolbar

  Hi to all. Is it possible to have a 32x32 images on toolbar while keeping 16x16 in menu. I created toolbar resource (IDR_TOOLBAR1) and set it's button size as 32x32 and load it: if (!m_wndToolBar.CreateEx(this,...) || !m_wndToolBar.LoadToolBar(IDR_TOOLBAR1 )) { ... } When started toolbar correctly shows large btn images but menu is also enlarged showing 32x32 item images!? How to have menu images as before (small 16x16) My app info: SDI, VS2008 Thanks in advance! P.S. I have noticed an option check box "Large Images" in quick customization dialog under options tab. The dialog is enabled by default in my project. When selecting that option images buttons enlarge instantly, the problem is the new sized images is created from small ones and quality is poor. It would be better if new images list is loaded? Once again thanks in advance!

  Hi all, Mac OS 10.6, Cocoa project, 10.4 compatibility required. (Please note: my knowledge of regex is quite slight) I need to parse NSStrings, for matching cases where the string contains an embedded tag, where the tag format is: [xxxx] Where xxxx are random characters. e.g. "The quick brown [foxy] fox likes sox". In the above case, I need to grab the string "foxy". (Or nil if no tag is found.) Each string will only have one tag, and the tag can appear anywhere within the string, or may not appear at all. Could someone please help with a way to do that, preferably without having to include another library such as RegexKit. Thank you for any help.

• Should I use Drupal or Kohana-type framework for a web "application"

  The debate is that I need a PHP Framework/Drupal with the flexibility to add custom features to a potentially large application (web and with an api). However, with a framework, like Kohana, I see myself tackling and re-inventing the wheel with the simple stuff like account management and cms stuff. Account management and quick data collection, like fast form creation, are tedious in Kohana but appear incredible simple in Drupal. On the other hand, based on my limited Drupal experience, I doubt building rapid custom "features" and allowing users to create "groups" and to manage their own roles within those groups is something Drupal can easily accomplish. To simplify, is Drupal capable of true Web Applications; where the application is a service and provides custom results to each user? Can it provide a dashboard-like interface for users to change their settings or preferences? Can it aggregate data from particular users to provide better results/info to others? If so, please point me to some knowledge :-)

• AesCryptoServiceProvider not part of SymmetricAlgorithm?

  I have a quick little app that steps through the possible symmetric encryption methods. I get them with the following line: private static List<Type> GetAlgorithmTypes { get { return Assembly.GetAssembly(typeof(SymmetricAlgorithm)).GetTypes().Where( type => type.IsSubclassOf(typeof(SymmetricAlgorithm))).ToList(); } } As you can see when i run this, AesCryptoServiceProvider is not a member of this group, even though it inherits from AES, which does belong to SymmetricAlgorithm and shows up in my list. This wouldn't be so much of a problem, i can manually add the provider in the group if i have too, but then if i try to retrieve this type by its name: Type t = Type.GetType("System.Security.Cryptography.AesCryptoServiceProvider"); i get a null object for AesCryptoServiceProvider, but not for any of the other items in the group. This is really strange, and i'm wondering if anyone has any ideas. It's kinda making me need to use tripleDES because of this (since my machines are all running the FIPS compliance requirement).   In my quest to improve my PowerShell skills, here's an example of an ugly solution to a simple problem. Any suggestions how to improve the oneliner are welcome. Mission: trim a huge icon library down to something a bit more manageable. The original directory structure looks like this: /Apps and Utilities /Compile /32 Bit Alpha png /Compile 16 n p.png /+ 10 or more files /+ 5 more formats with 10 or more files each /+ 20 or so icon names /+ 22 more categories I want to copy the 32 Bit Alpha pngs and flatten the directory structure a bit. Here's my quick and very dirty solution: $dest = mkdir c:\icons; gci -r | ? { $_.Name -eq '32 Bit Alph a png' } | % { mkdir ("$dest\" + $_.Parent.Parent.Name + "\" + $_.Parent.Name); $_ } | gci | % { cp $_. FullName -dest ("$dest\" + $_.Directory.Parent.Parent + "\" + $_.Directory.Parent) } Not nice, but it solved my problem.   I am trying to implement a password hashing/salting algorithm from crackstation.net, but I am unsure how implement it. Storing the password upon user registration seems to be as simple as passing the password into create_hash(). $password = create_hash($_POST['Password']; I'm not following how to validate upon user login. validate_password($password, $good_hash) returns either true or false, and takes $password as parameter, so it seems like a no brainer except for the second parameter $good_hash. Where does this param come from? It is my understanding that password is turned into a hash value every time its used, and that the hash value is what is stored and compared. So why would I have both the $password and $good_hash values? Quick overview of the functions: function create_hash($password){ calls pbkdf2() } function validate_password($password, $good_hash){ calls pbkdf2() calls slow_equals() } function slow_equals($a, $b){ } function pbkdf2($algorithm, $password, $salt, $count, $key_length, $raw_output = false){ } Of course a different, better method for this would also be just as helpful. • DataReader Behaviour With SQL Server Locking

  We are having some issues with our data layer when large datasets are returned from a SQL server query via a DataReader. As we use the DataReader to populate business objects and serialize them back to the client, the fetch can take several minutes (we are showing progress to the user :-)), but we've found that there's some pretty hard-core locking going on on the affected tables which is causing other updates to be blocked. So I guess my slightly naive question is, at what point are the locks which are taken out as a result of executing the query actually relinquished? We seem to be finding that the locks are remaining until the last row of the DataReader has been processed and the DataReader is actually closed - does that seem correct? A quick 101 on how the DataReader works behind the scenes would be great as I've struggled to find any decent information on it. I should say that I realise the locking issues are the main concern but I'm just concerned with the behaviour of the DataReader here.

• How can I vertically center an element with GWT?

  Perhaps I haven't been searching the right way but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to center an element using GWT Layout Panels. I'm using UiBinder and I've tried all panels that implement HasVerticalAlignment (DockPanel, HorizontalPanel, VerticalPanel). None of them seem to have any impact from setting vertical alignment (or even horizontal). I've made sure they're taking 100% width and height, inspected the resulting DOM layout from my browser and nothing seems to be changed from those properties. The quick and dirty fix I've figured out is to create my own "CenterPanel" widget which basically is a wrapper around a HTMLPanel with a HTML table with a valign="middle" cell. However, this basically feels like a throwback to the classical css-layout middle centering problems. Surely GWT has something to do this that I've completely overlooked?

• PHP date function not accepting timezone change

  Hello, I've set up a quick little test to understand and debug timezones between mySQL and PHP. Here's the page: http://dev.feedingo.com/test_dates.php The dates are being created in mySQL using NOW() in a datetime field. The initial problem I was trying to figure out is what timezone mySQL is using and how to sync it up with PHP. But now there's an even weirder issue. In my test app, if you change your timezone, the first strtotime updates properly, but if you pass it into a date() function it doesn't change. This is how im setting the timezone based off the select box. $current_timezone = 'America/New_York'; if( isset( $_GET['timezone'] ) ) $current_timezone = $_GET['timezone']; date_default_timezone_set($current_timezone); Any ideas as to why the date() function isn't accepting the timezone changes?   I am using jquery for a quick and easy form validation My forms use the input's default value as a label and I have a little onfocus and onblur javascript function to show and hide this when the user starts to type: <input name='fnameREG' type='text' id='fnameREG' value='first name' size='70' onfocus='clearInput(this)' onblur='clearInput(this)' /> <input name='lnameREG' type='text' id='lnameREG' value='last name' size='70' onfocus='clearInput(this)' onblur='clearInput(this)' /> My issue with the validation is that when the submit button is clicked the pluggin thinks that all the fields are set because they have a default value. I looked but I couldn't find a supplied method to get round this. Thanks!

• Redirect print in Python: val = print(arg) to output mixed iterable to file

  So lets say I have an incredibly nested iterable of lists/dictionaries. I would like to print them to a file as easily as possible. Why can't I just redirect print to a file? val = print(arg) gets a SyntaxError. Is there a way to access stdinput? And why does print take forever with massive strings? Bad programming on my side for outputting massive strings, but quick debugging--and isn't that leveraging the strength of an interactive prompt? There's probably also an easier way than my gripe. Has the hive-mind an answer?

• Hosting Javascript/CSS file on CDN similar to Google hosting jQuery

  Hello, I am wondering if there are any hosts or if I can host my file (JS & CSS) on Google so that they are cached and load real quick (due to CDN and gzip). A number of my customers use these files and I would prefer if they could somehow include this to file to receive the JS file. Ideally with filename.js?publickey=sdfgsdfg (which will be tied to a particular domain name). The problem is that my hosting needs are very small- only about 100kb. Any suggestions. My problem is that the customers using the JS & CSS file, have no clue about gzipping content or caching (as their shared hosts do not support it), as a result causes the JS/CSS to take forever to load. Am wondering if I can leverage an existing free service, or I do not mind paying either. Thank you for your time.

• Is there a way to import or convert vmware player images to run on xen?

  It's fairly popular for companies offering a quick way to test their product to give you a vmware player image. I don't run VMWare though, I run Xen exclusively. Most of these images (and the one I'm interested right this moment particularly) are linux images. Is there a way to use this image with Xen? Obviously, I could setup player long enough to boot the image, then move the data out of the image to a Xen image, but I'm hoping for something easier and quicker than that...preferably that doesn't require setting up a box to run player than can run this image.

  So I'm getting really sick of E*TRADE and, being a developer, would love to find an online broker that offers an API. It would be great to be able to write my own trading tools, and maybe even modify existing ones. Based on my research so far, I've only found one option. Interactive Brokers offers a multi-language API (Java/C++/ActiveX/DDE) and has some fairly decent commission rates to boot. I want to make sure there aren't any other options out there I should be considering. Any ideas? Update: Based on answers so far, here's a quick list... • Where can I take an online programming aptitude test/exam?

  A potential employer requires me to take an online aptitude test before my interview (in this case the test is for C, from Previsor). Where can I take the same (or similar) test so I have a rough idea on what I should brush up on? I've taken a similar test for C++ previously, so I have some idea of what to expect. I've also been studying my C books thoroughly (especially the required material as described in the PDF), but I feel it would be a good idea to get a feel for the particular test before taking it. I did a quick search on Brainbench, but they don't seem to have a C test, unless I'm mistaken (only C++). Note: I'm happy to pay to take a test if no decent free ones are available.

• Best way to deal with multiple layouts in symfony

  Hey folks. I'm looking for the best way to do something simple in symfony. Basically, I have a module in which all the pages will contain the same header and footer. That module also shares the same general layout as the other modules. I'm just wondering, should I create one file and have my content pages called up as partials or should all files have their own content and somehow call the two other templates. • C# System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Debug() stopped working

  I'm working on a program which uses the System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Break() method to allow the user to set a breakpoint from the command-line. This has worked fine for many weeks now. However, when I was working on fixing a unit test today, I tried to use the debug switch from the command-line, and it didn't work. Here's what I've tried: I've confirmed that the Debug() method is really being called (by putting a System.Console.WriteLine() after it) I've confirmed that the build is still in Debug I've done a clean build I've restarted Product Studio A quick Google search didn't reveal anything, and the API documentation for .Net doesn't mention anything about this function not performing correctly. So... any ideas?
