  Anyone seen this before? CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'. An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:\Documents and Settings\..\App_Data\HelloWorld.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. I'm asking on a friend's behalf. • Why do HTTP loopback connections not work on my subdomains?

  I have a shared hosting account at Jumba running Linux kernel 2.6.9-103.ELsmp (don't know if that helps) with cpanel 1.0 (RC1). I am using the WordPress plugin Backup Buddy, which requires HTTP loopback connections to monitor / complete backups. This works fine on memelab.com.au, but doesn't work at any subdomain (e.g.: staging.memelab.com.au). Is it possible to setup an A record or some such to remedy this? I'm aware of a workaround, (setting WP_ALTERNATE_CRON) but I find this unsatisfactory due to the messy URLs. BackupBuddy:_Frequent_Support_Issues#HTTP_Loopback_Connections_Disabled Here is the reply from my host: …as main domain have it's own separate DNS entry it have localhost entry which helps for looback connections where as subdomains don't have separate DNS zone, so it is not possible to create looback connections for it. (I remember reading that there were at least 8 available local IPs available on (some) Linuxes.) All the A records point to the server IP, with the exception of localhost.memelab.com.au which points to 127.0.0.1. • WHM new account nameservers not responding

  I've setup a new account in WHM and updated the nameservers from Domain Registrar and it's not responding from the server. So I went to DNS functions and Nameserver IP's and I have the following ns1.example.com.au No IP 4 ns2.example.com.au No IP 4 I'm not sure whether "NO IP" part is the problem I went in to the domains and they seem to be properly set up. Below is what my Domain Registrar responded with my ticket. those nameservers are either a) offline/not responding or b) not set up correctly as nameservers. Is there a place I can check in WHM to make nameservers respond correctly? The nameservers I updated with above ns1.example.com.au and ns2.example.com.au but it's not working. WHM version is: WHM 11.32.2 (build 18)

• qemu command not running directly

  Can I use "qemu://localhost/system " command directly inplace of "virsh -c qemu://localhost/system " command if my both machines are physically connected in a network as virsh will simply creating the virtual shell between two systems? can I use ssh in place of virtual shell here? I tried this but system gives no directory or file name for qemu even when i had qemu installed properly in my system. but when i use virsh i did not get such errors. Do i need to open any unix socket for doing this?

  I am creating a library API which will take the backup of all the VM's running on KVM hypervisor. My VM's can be of any type. I am taking this backup from a remote machine and need to put the backup at remote server. I have KVM, Libvirt installed on my system. Some of my VM's are LVM based and some are normal VM's running on KVM. I research and found out an excellent perl script for taking the backup http://pof.eslack.org/2010/12/23/best-solution-to-fully-backup-kvm-virtual-machines/ but since I am developing this library in C++ I cannot use it however it has given me a good understanding of how it will work. One thing I didnot able to sort out is if my VM's are not created using virt-manager or are created using any other tool them virsh system list command does not give them in the list of running VM's however they are running perfectly on my KVM server. Is there a way to list these VM's in my system list anyhow? secondly, when I am taking backup from the remote machine I am getting out of my ssh mode as soon as my libvirt command finishes and for every command I need to ssh again, Is there a way that I do not need to ssh each and every time? I have already used the rsa key for ssh but when once my command finishes my control moves to the remote machine again and try to find out my source VM location in remote machine's local drives which in turn fails it. here is the main problem I am facing. also for the LVM based VM I am able to take the live backup but for non LVM based my machines are getting suspended and not been able to take the live backup. Since my library will work on the remote machine only I might not know the VM's configruation on the KVM server. so need to make it consistent for all the VM's. Please share any thing related to this issue so that I may be able to take the live backup of the non lvm vm's also. I'll update my working and any research findings time to time to all of you. IMAP and POP3 are no problems, I can just forward the ports directly to the correct server. The results of the above configuration is that requests to domain2.com.au (port 80 or 443) are forwarded to https://domain1.com.au. Am I headed in the right direction?

• Unused Indexes Gotcha

  I'm currently looking into dropping unused indexes to reduce unnecessary overhead and I came across a very good point in the excellent SQL Server MVP Deep Dives book that I haven't seen highlighted anywhere else. I was thinking it was simply a case of dropping indexes that didn't show as being used in DMV sys.dm_db_index_usage_stats (assuming a solid representative workload had been run since the last service start). But Rob Farley points out that the DMV only shows indexes whose pages have been read or updated. An index that isn't listed in the DMV might still be useful by providing metadata to the Query Optimizer and thus streamlining query plans. For example, if you have a query like this: select  au.author_name         , count(*) as books from    books b         inner join authors au on au.author_id = b.author_id group by au.author_name If you have a unique index on authors.author_name the Query Optimizer will realise that each author_id will have a different author_name so it can produce a plan that just counts the books by author_id and then adds the author name to each row in that small table. If you delete that index the query will have to join all the books with their authors and then apply the GROUP BY - a much more expensive query. So be cautious about dropping apparently unused unique indexes.

Ok, it's been suggested by some SEO experts that if the number of levels or folders in the domain exceeds 5 then the page drops dramatically in importance. Basically, you don't want to make it deep. As such, adding the country as the first level can be considered a waste, especially when it can be handled by the domain OR subdomain - hence the question :) So, any more thoughts on this? (Maybe SO is the wrong place to ask this question?)

• System wide Proxy settings when on a windows network with a password

  I'm using Ubuntu on a windows network. I want to connect to the world wide web. I have followed the steps here which I have found very useful. However when I try to ping a website (eg: ping www.wikipedia.org) I get no reply. I can ping local computers on my network, but I need to go through our proxy to get to the world wide web. I can even browse wikipedia using firefox, I just needed to enter the proxy configuration script location and my username and password. I'm quite sure the reason I'm having this trouble is because I havn't entered a username and password. I'm not sure how to do this on a system wide level. ultimately I would like to be able to use package managers like synaptic but first I need them to be able to connect to the internet. Ideally, I would like to extract just the death rate statistics from each country XML DB (year and value). • Running Mathematica-5 remotely

  I have Mathematica 5 - a powerful CAS. I have a cheap netbook (running Windows XP), wich not only is too slow to run mathmatica on, I doubt it has the harddrive space. I do however have remote access to a number of very powerful computers, (most of wich run variose Linuxes, but one of which is Windows Server 2008, though I'ld rather not use this one*). Mostly over SSH but other protocols can be arraged for some, I'm sure. So I'ld like to install Mathematica onto one of these machine and then run it remotely. Either from the command line via Putty or via some other method. I glanced through the mathematical documentation and read something about using some MathLink program, which links the front end installed on my computer to a remote kernel. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm not sure if this belongs here or in SuperUser. At the moment, it's being tinkered with, and when the tinkering stops it'll likely be used to run multiple thin terms. As compared to the Linux machines: I have access to a dual 2.4 Xeon with 3GB RAM, which the rest of the world seems to have completely forgotten about (runs freeBSD!).

• pdf creation software, for docx and odt

  Ok, I have a fairly large collection of docx and odt files. Minutes from meetings etc. Now I want to convert them to pdfs for distrobution. and also into one combined pdf. At the momement I'm using Adobe Acrobat 8 (Pro iirc). and on another machine I'm using foxit pdf printer. To do this I have to print them each individually to pdfs. and then I can combine them with Acrobat, cos acrobat doesn't support conversion stright from docx or odt to pdf - only via printing. Now this is annoying if you have to do it on a regular basis, since i don't keep the pdfs around (I have the orignals source controlled :-D) cos they go out of date pretty quick as I often have to go back and modify old versions (like ridiculously often). e Eg When I find out I've got something in the minutes wrong or I want to add more context for clarifaction. Anyone got a better solution?
