  • iptables to play nice with tor and ntpd

    - by directedition
I'm setting up a server to operate as a tor relay and nothing else. I setup iptables to only allow talk on port 9001 and it worked fine, but there was an issue, the clock needs to be properly set and maintained for the relay to work properly, so I needed ntpd setup and running, but for some reason I can't get iptables to work as I want it. I'm trying to have it allow only tor and ntpd to talk over the network, but when I set it up to allow port 123 using udp, suddenly it ignores my -A OUTPUT ! -s 127.0.0.1 -j DROP and allows everything through. How should I go about this? Please excuse my ignorance, I've brand new to iptables.

  • Make VLC play all of a sound clip?

    - by bill weaver
In VLC 1.0.5, sound files (mp3 and wav) are not playing completely. I think the leading .1 sec and trailing .5 second, more or less, are not playing. I remember this behavior from some years ago, but am not sure the app or how i fixed it. Seems like there was some setting that was causing it to clip the sounds, but can't find or remember it. The Zune Software and Windows Media Player work fine. Windows 7 Pro, if it matters. Any suggestions?

  • Cisco IPSec, nat, and port forwarding don't play well together

    - by Alan
I have two Cisco ADSL modems configured conventionally to nat the inside traffic to the ISP. That works. I have two port forwards on one of them for SMTP and IMAP from the outside to the inside this provides external access to the mail server. This works. The modem doing the port forwarding also terminates PPTP VPN traffic. There are two DNS servers one inside the office which resolves mail to the local address, one outside the office which resolves mail for the rest of the world to the external interface. That all works. I recently added an IPSec VPN between the two modems and that works for every thing EXCEPT connections over the IPSec VPN to the mail server on port 25 or 143 from workstations on the remote lan. It would seem that the modem with the port forwards is confusing traffic from the mail server destined for a machine on the other side of the IPSec VPN for traffic that should go back to a port forward connection. PPTP VPN traffic to the mail server is fine. Is this a scenario anybody is familiar with and are there any suggestions on how to work around it? Many thanks Alan But wait there is more..... This is the strategic parts of the nat config. A route map is used to exclude the lans that are reachable via IPSec tunnels from being Nated. int ethernet0 ip nat inside int dialer1 ip nat outside ip nat inside source route-map nonat interface Dialer1 overload route-map nonat permit 10 match ip address 105 access-list 105 remark *** Traffic to NAT access-list 105 deny ip 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.9.0 0.0.0.255 access-list 105 deny ip 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.48.0 0.0.0.255 access-list 105 permit ip 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255 any ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.241 25 interface Dialer1 25 ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.241 143 interface Dialer1 143 At the risk of answering my own question, I resolved this outside the Cisco realm. I bound a secondary ip address to mail server 192.168.1.244, changed the port forwards to use it while leaving all the local and IPSec traffic to use 192.168.1.241 and the problem was solved. New port forwards. ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.244 25 interface Dialer1 25 ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.244 143 interface Dialer1 143 Obviously this is a messy solution and being able to fix this in the Cisco would be preferable.

  • Building a PC for Work and play? [closed]

    - by Derek Organ
Ok, Its been a long time since I build my own PC so I'm looking to get back into it again and build a new one. First off budget is about €800 excluding the monitor and windows 7 licence and mouse. (just bought a new g500) I plan on using my computer for work, lots of applications open at once but none particularly excessive (photoshop being the most demanding, mostly coding tools) I also use it for some gaming, e.g. COD, Starcraft etc. One thing I do want to do eventually is get a really good monitor with hight resolution and maybe 27" so the graphics card needs to be able to make best use of that. So a few questions 1) Is the bottle neck in performance mostly still the harddrives? 2) Aren't most processors e.g. i5 etc even i3 so far a head of other bottlenecks it makes litte difference the higher you go. Isn't the Graphics card dealing with heavy graphics so what really slows because of a slow CPU? So from this my thinking is to get a SSD drive as my primary drive for OS etc and have loads of memory e.g. 6-8GB and a decent mid level graphics card? It doesn't seem at my level worth spending much on CPU and any other parts really. I basic parts off the top of my head Case, Motherboard CPU SSD Drive SATA Drive Power Supply Memory Cooling (fan?) Graphics Card Network Card Keyboard DVD drive Mouse Windows Monitor Am I missing anything? Any helpful tips or general education much appreciated. Thanks, Derek

  • I want to play one podcast only on iTouch, but they play in series one after the other.

    - by Eddy
I download multiple podcasts from one source, eg, five episodes of Naked Scientists. I want to listen to one only, but when the first finishes it automatically goes to the second, and third etc. I want to listen to just one episode at a time and have the iTouch turn off when it is finished (this is a sleep-aid for my insomnia...I don't want it playing all night !) A "Genius" suggested making playlists, but although you can make a podcast playlist, it does NOT sync. Please help. thanks, Ed3339

  • CentOS - Configuring Puppet to play nice with SELinux

    - by Mike Purcell
I am running into an issue every time I attempt to start the puppetmasterd service, for which I receive the following error message: root@service1 ~ # -> /etc/init.d/puppetmaster start Starting puppetmaster: Could not prepare for execution: Got 1 failure(s) while initializing: change from absent to directory failed: Could not set 'directory on ensure: Permission denied - /etc/puppet/ssl [FAILED] Apparently there was a known issue with this scenario as outlined in this bug report, however in the bug report it states the issue has been resolved in selinux-policy-3.9.16-29.fc15, but the latest CentOS default upstream version is 3.7.19-155.el6_3.4. So I am trying to figure out the best solution. I can either create a local security policy to allow puppetmasterd the access it needs, or keep researching and install a newer version of selinux-policy outside of the default upstream channel. Anyone have any recommendations? • Getting iTunes to play third party AAC files

    - by Redmastif
I have a library filled with some old MP3 files and I'm in the process of changing them all to AAC for the better sound quality. Obviously I can't just create AAC versions of the files I already have because they would sound worse (lossy compression to converted to more lossy compression), so I'm going to their source and downloading them in a lossless form and using a third party to make them into AAC. Apparently iTunes will not handle AAC files that aren't made with iTunes. Is there a way around this? I've looked at third party programs and would be willing to use them, but since they all require the iTunes/iPod/iEverything driver, I don't know if they would still prevent my files or not. Also before you jump on my back about pirating, these files are from old CDs that I lost years ago. I paid for them. Thanks.

  • How to right click and play audio folder on Windows Media Player 12

    - by Mehper C. Palavuzlar
It's always been hard for me to add a music folder with subfolders to Windows Media Player's playlist. I double click a file in the folder (or click on WMP shortcut), WMP opens, and I drag the other files or folders manually to the playlist. Isn't there an option to add a right-click context menu item that can automatically add all audio contents in a folder (with subfolders) to WMP playlist?

  • How do i play nicely with MS SQL/SQL Server 2008

    - by acidzombie24
Big problem. I have nearly given up. I am trying to port my prototype to use MS SQL so it will work on a server once i get it (the server will be SQL Server 2008, shared, i dont know any more info). So i tried to connect to SQL Server via visual studios IDE and had no luck. I enabled TCP and named pipes and restarted the service (and computer) with still no luck. I remembered about mdf files so i made that after an obstacle of not being able to make the connect string require i figure out visual studio has it in its properties and successfully connected with that. Then i had a problem with nested transactions. After not being able to figure out how to check i wondered if i can configure it to allow it somehow. I always thought all of MS were the same except for limitations but sql server seems to support nested transactions so theres no point trying to work around the problem with .mdf files since i wont need them and really just used it to port the base of my sql code and to check if syntax is correct. I tried installing SQL Server Management Studio since people mentioned it several times (as a solution or at least help). When installing it on windows 7 it says it may not be compatible. After running it, it launched SQL Server Installation Center (64-bit) which doesnt seem to be the same thing as i dont see a way to modify any of my server (networking) configurations or edit user permissions, etc. I am clueless what to do next. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm posting here bc i think my problem is more configurations and sql server then programming.

  • Catch headset pause/play keypresses in Windows

    - by akshay2000
I have a new Ultrabook which has single audio jack for input and output instead for separate 3.5 mm jacks we used to have on older machines. The jack is probably similar to American Audio Jack specification or like the one found on Macbook Pro. I have tried to use it with the Apple, HTC, Nokia earphones which ship with most of the smartphones. Microphone on the headset works the way it should. Thing is that the headsets also come with remote controls to control volume and playback. I am sure that those key presses are sent to the Windows. I was hoping to catch those events and bind those to actual media keys so that I can control music playback. I guess this happens on Macs. I want to do the similar thing on the Windows. I'm just not sure where I can catch the events. Driver level? Application level?

  • Apache: getting proxy, rewrite, and SSL to play nice

    - by Rich M
Hi, I'm having loads of trouble trying to integrate proxy, rewrite, and SSL altogether in Apache 2. A brief history, my application runs on port 8080 and before adding SSL, I used proxy to strip the 8080 from the url's to and from the server. So instead of www.example.com:8080/myapp, the client app accessed everything via www.example.com/myapp Here was the conf the accomplished this: ProxyRequests Off <Proxy */myapp> Order deny, allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass /myapp http://www.example.com:8080/myapp ProxyPassReverse /myapp http://www.example.com:8080/myapp What I'm trying to do now is force all requests to myapp to be HTTPS, and then have those SSL requests follow the same proxy rules that strip out the port number as my application used to. Simply changing the ports 8080 to 8443 in the ProxyPass lines does not accomplish this. Unfortunately I'm not an expert in Apache, and my skills of trial and error are already reaching the end of the line. RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteRule myapp/* https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} ProxyRequests Off <Proxy */myapp> Order deny, allow Allow from all </Proxy> SSLProxyEngine on ProxyPass /myapp https://www.example.com:8443/mloyalty ProxyPassReverse /myapp https://www.example.com:8433/mloyalty As this stands, a request to anything on the server other than /myapp load fine with http. If I make a browser http request to /mypp it then redirects to https:// www.example.com:8443/myapp , which is not the desired behavior. Links within the application then resolve to https:// www.example.com/myapp/linkedPage , which is desirable. Browser requests (http and https) to anything one level beyond just /myapp ie. /myapp/mycontext resolve to https:// www.example.com/myapp/mycontext without the port. I'm not sure what other information there is for me to give, but I think my goals should be clear.

  • Recovered video files won't play

    - by BioGeek
I have an SD card with pictures and video which malfunctioned. I was able to recover the files with Photorec. The pictures are OK, but wen I try to open the vide files (*.mov extension) in get the following errors when I try to open them in the following programs Windows Media player: "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file" Quicktime: "Error -2048: Couldn't open the file because it is not a file that QuickTime understands" VLC: it shows the first frame of the video and the sound is just white noise The filesizes look correct so I presume the data is still in there. Is there any way to fix these recovered video files?

  • How to make Thunderbird play nice with Google mail

    - by Christi
Thunderbird and gmail aren't exactly the best of friends. Gmail's tags mean that Thunderbird often downloads multiple copies of a single mail. Anything tagged in gmail will appear in a folder related to that tag, the "all mail" folder, and possibly the "inbox" and "sent mail" folders too. Thus a mail with multiple tags could potentially be stored more than four times in a local Thunderbird cache. This can make searching difficult, and is obviously wasteful of disk space. The best solution I have come up with is as follows. Operate a zero inbox policy (i.e. use the inbox for processing live mail only and archive everything else) which eliminates an extra copy in the inbox. Secondly, configure Thunderbird not to sync the "Sent Mail" folder - this is a bit of a pain, since I actually find it quite useful to be able to look through just the mails I've sent, but a search can duplicate this functionality. In this way, most of the duplicates are removed, and only mail with tags is stored locally more than once. Ideally, however, I'd only like one copy of each mail to be stored locally. I am surprised Thunderbird doesn't store mail by some sort of hashing algorithm to prevent precisely this problem - but it wouldn't be compatible with the way the folders are mirrored in a local directory structure, I suppose. Can anyone think of a better way to get Thunderbird to cache a Google mail account locally efficiently.

    - by Ecom Evolution
I tried to change my speaker setup and every time I click "test" I get this error message on Windows 7 SP1. I tried running "sndvol" to view the applications list but the list is empty. Since I tried to test the new speaker setup, I'm now left without sound for all applications and can't get sound even if I switch back. I have not updated my sound drivers so I don't know what could have changed. What could be causing this?

  • internet without dns tennis play [closed]

    - by Curious
Why do we make DNS requests separately when an ISP could also be handling the DNS request along with HTTP data simultaneously. So rather than: Ask opendns what yahoos address is. Opendns returns: 66.55.44.11 Hey, Verizon. Send/Request data from 66.55.44.11. Why wouldn't the protocol just request data from "yahoo.com" and verizon interprets the yahoo.com as a split DNS request. This would lower latency for sure as it cuts out the time required for the dns server to call back the IP to then be sent AGAIN when it could just be handling the entire request theoretically. Couldn't this be managed via a host file change on the client side and make compatible servers?? So much like a proxy.

First, here is my hardware configuration : MB : Gigabyte H77-DS3H Intel Core i5 3330 (3.00GHz) MSI Nvidia GTX 760 8 Gb RAM 1333 MHz What I want to do is to have a linux (probably ArchLinux) as a main and unique OS on my computer (I don't want a dualboot). And virtualizing Windows under Linux. I've read about VT-d (supported by my CPU) and PCIBackHide. I'd like to know if I can initialize Linux with the Integrated Graphics and Virtualize Windows to use the GTX 760. If I can do it, where do I have to plug my two screens ? On the MainBoard or the GTX 760 ? How do I achive that idea ?

Video tags like below plays fine with iPhone, but not Android: <video id="video" width="320" height="240" poster="video/placeholder.jpg" autobuffer controls> <source src="pr6.mp4" type='video/mp4; codecs="avc1.42E01E, mp4a.40.2"'> <source src="pr6.ogv" type='video/ogg; codecs="theora, vorbis"'> </video> With the above code, Android can't even click the clip. It would just see the poster image. Video tag like below however works with Android: <video src="vpr6.mp4" poster="video/placeholder.jpg" onclick="this.play();"/> However, I still need to multiple sources capability (for Firefox ogv support…). Below code does not work (nor do they work if I stick the javascript into the source tags): <video id="video" width="320" height="240" autobuffer controls onclick="this.play();"> <source src="pr6.mp4" type='video/mp4; codecs="avc1.42E01E, mp4a.40.2"'> <source src="pr6.ogv" type='video/ogg; codecs="theora, vorbis"'> </video> With above code, the clip is clickable in Android, but still does nothing. • Play multiple audio files using AVAudioPlayer

    - by inScript09
Hi all, I am planning on releasing 10 of my song recordings for free but bundled in an iphone app. They are not available on web or itunes or anywhere as of now. I am new to iphone sdk (latest) as you can imagine, so I have been going through the developer documentation, various forums and stackoverflow to learn. Apple's avTouch sample application was a great start. But I want my app to play all the 10 tracks one by one. All the songs are added to resources folder and are named as track1, track2...track10. In the avTouch app code I can see the following 2 parts which is where I think I need to make changes to achieve what I am looking for. But I am lost. // Load the array with the sample file NSURL *fileURL = [[NSURL alloc] initFileURLWithPath: [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"sample" ofType:@"m4a"]]; - (void)audioPlayerDidFinishPlaying:(AVAudioPlayer *)player successfully:(BOOL)flag { if (flag == NO) NSLog(@"Playback finished unsuccessfully"); [player setCurrentTime:0.]; [self updateViewForPlayerState]; } can anyone please help me on 1. how to load the array with all the 10 tracks which are added to resources folder 2. and when I hit play, player should start the first track. when the 1st track ends 2nd track should start and so on for the remaining tracks. Thank You

With the code I have right now I CAN play .mp3 data from files succesfully. However I need to play the same data using a QtCore.QBuffer (NOT from a file). When I use the example of the docs it errors an unexpected type of QBuffer! However...... that is what it SHOULD see, according to the docs. But............... it throws: TypeError: Phonon.MediaObject.setCurrentSource(Phonon.MediaSource): argument 1 has unexpected type 'QBuffer' The code I use is (1): someBuffer = QtCore.QBuffer() someBuffer.writeData(TrackData) mediaObject.setCurrentSource(someBuffer) I also tried (2): someBuffer = QtCore.QBuffer() mediaObject.setCurrentSource(someBuffer) someBuffer.writeData(TrackData) and (3): someBuffer = QtCore.QBuffer() someBuffer.writeData(TrackData) mediaObject.setCurrentSource(Phonon.MediaSource(someBuffer)) The last example (3) throws an different ERROR and wipes my Gui off screen ;-) ASSERT: "d-connected" in file /builddir/build/BUILD/phonon-4.5.1/phonon/streaminterface.cpp, line xxxx Notes: TrackData contains the mp3 data and IS PLAYING OK when I write it to a File and use that as a resource to mediaObject.setCurrentSource(Phonon.MediaSource())I also experimented with a QByteArray but that leads to the same "unexpected QBuffer" error. To be more precise everything I feed setCurrentSource is not accepted. Tried a string (errors an unexpected type of String), tried a QBuffer (errors an unexpected type of QBuffer), tried a QByteArray (errors an unexpected type of QByteArray). BTW: I run Qt, PyQt on Linux. Any ideas??

    I have two animations for two layers, layer1 and layer2, each has different path. So, I want to know how can play them in order. first play layer1's animation, and then layer2. here is my two animation code! layer1 CALayer *layer1 = [CALayer layer]; [self.layer addSublayer:layer1]; CAKeyframeAnimation *animation1 = [CAKeyframeAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@"position"]; layer1.contents = (id)image1.CGImage; layer1.anchorPoint = CGPointZero; layer1.frame = CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f, image1.size.width, image1.size.height); animation1.path = path1; animation1.duration = 2.0f; animation1.calculationMode = kCAAnimationLinear; [layer1 addAnimation:animation1 forKey:@"position"]; layer2 CALayer *layer2 = [CALayer layer]; [self.layer addSublayer:layer2]; CAKeyframeAnimation *animation2 = [CAKeyframeAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@"position"]; layer2.contents = (id)image2.CGImage; layer2.anchorPoint = CGPointZero; layer2.frame = CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f, image2.size.width, image2.size.height); animation2.path = path2; animation2.duration = 2.0f; animation2.calculationMode = kCAAnimationLinear; [layer2 addAnimation:animation2 forKey:@"position"];
