Anyway, that is only slightly related to my question. My question is, when designing a website, providing I know the purpose, what should I start with? Should I start with the CSS, design and look&feel using dummy data first, or should I program in the logic, events and output, and style it later? What is the design process of most websites that are built from the ground up?

    I ordered few items from Amazon.com last week and when the package is delivered I found an item is missing. I reached out to Amazon Customer care and they resolved the issue by resending the missing item. Amazon’s customer care is awesome! They just asked me few questions regarding the order, person who accepted the delivery and without any further delay they provided details on when I’ll get the replacement item. Best part is Amazon customer care support is available through email, chat & telephone. I chose support through a chat session and resolved the issue.   • Search Engine Query Word Order

    I've pages with titles like 'Alpha with Beta'. For every such page, there is an inverse page 'Beta with Alpha'. Both pages link to each other. When someone on Google searches for 'Beta with Alpha', I'd like them to land on the correct page, but sometimes 'Alpha with Beta' ranks higher (or vice versa). I was thinking of inspecting the referral link when a visitor arrives on my site, and silently redirecting them to the correct page based on what they actually searched for. Just wondering if this could be penalized by Google as 'cloaking/sneaky redirects'? Or is there a better way to ensure that the correct page on my site ranks higher for the matching query?

  • What can I do in order to inform users of potential errors in my software in order to minimize liability?

    I'm an independent software developer that's spent the last few months creating software for viewing and searching map data. The software has some navigation functionality as well (mapping, directions,etc). The eventual goal is to sell it in mobile app markets. I use OpenStreetMap as my data source. I'm concerned about liability for erroneous map data / routing instructions, etc that might result when someone uses the application. There are a lot of stories on the internet where someone gets into an accident or gets stuck or gets lost because of their GPS unit/Google Maps/mapping app... I myself have come across incorrect map data as well in a GPS unit I have in my car. While I try to make my own software as bug free as possible, no software is truly bug free. And moving beyond what I can control, OpenStreetMap data (and street map data in general) is prone to errors as well. What steps can I take to clearly inform the user that results from the software aren't always perfect, and to minimize my liability?

  • mdadm raid5 recover double disk failure - with a twist (drive order)

    Let me acknowledge first off that I have made mistakes, and that I have a backup for most but not all of the data on this RAID. I still have hope of recovering the rest of the data. I don't have the kind of money to take the drives to a recovery expert company. Mistake #0, not having a 100% backup. I know. I have a mdadm RAID5 system of 4x3TB. Drives /dev/sd[b-e], all with one partition /dev/sd[b-e]1. I'm aware that RAID5 on very large drives is risky, yet I did it anyway. Recent events The RAID become degraded after a two drive failure. One drive [/dev/sdc] is really gone, the other [/dev/sde] came back up after a power cycle, but was not automatically re-added to the RAID. So I was left with a 4 device RAID with only 2 active drives [/dev/sdb and /dev/sdd]. Mistake #1, not using dd copies of the drives for restoring the RAID. I did not have the drives or the time. Mistake #2, not making a backup of the superblock and mdadm -E of the remaining drives. Recovery attempt I reassembled the RAID in degraded mode with mdadm --assemble --force /dev/md0, using /dev/sd[bde]1. I could then access my data. I replaced /dev/sdc with a spare; empty; identical drive. I removed the old /dev/sdc1 from the RAID mdadm --fail /dev/md0 /dev/sdc1 Mistake #3, not doing this before replacing the drive I then partitioned the new /dev/sdc and added it to the RAID. mdadm --add /dev/md0 /dev/sdc1 It then began to restore the RAID. ETA 300 mins. I followed the process via /proc/mdstat to 2% and then went to do other stuff. Checking the result Several hours (but less then 300 mins) later, I checked the process. It had stopped due to a read error on /dev/sde1. Here is where the trouble really starts I then removed /dev/sde1 from the RAID and re-added it. I can't remember why I did this; it was late. mdadm --manage /dev/md0 --remove /dev/sde1 mdadm --manage /dev/md0 --add /dev/sde1 However, /dev/sde1 was now marked as spare. So I decided to recreate the whole array using --assume-clean using what I thought was the right order, and with /dev/sdc1 missing. mdadm --create /dev/md0 --assume-clean -l5 -n4 /dev/sdb1 missing /dev/sdd1 /dev/sde1 That worked, but the filesystem was not recognized while trying to mount. (It should have been EXT4). Device order I then checked a recent backup I had of /proc/mdstat, and I found the drive order. md0 : active raid5 sdb1[0] sde1[4] sdd1[2] sdc1[1] 8790402048 blocks super 1.2 level 5, 512k chunk, algorithm 2 [4/4] [UUUU] I then remembered this RAID had suffered a drive loss about a year ago, and recovered from it by replacing the faulty drive with a spare one. That may have scrambled the device order a bit...so there was no drive [3] but only [0],[1],[2], and [4]. I tried to find the drive order with the Permute_array script: https://raid.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Permute_array.pl but that did not find the right order. Questions I now have two main questions: I screwed up all the superblocks on the drives, but only gave: mdadm --create --assume-clean commands (so I should not have overwritten the data itself on /dev/sd[bde]1. Am I right that in theory the RAID can be restored [assuming for a moment that /dev/sde1 is ok] if I just find the right device order? Is it important that /dev/sde1 be given the device number [4] in the RAID? When I create it with mdadm --create /dev/md0 --assume-clean -l5 -n4 \ /dev/sdb1 missing /dev/sdd1 /dev/sde1 it is assigned the number [3]. I wonder if that is relevant to the calculation of the parity blocks. If it turns out to be important, how can I recreate the array with /dev/sdb1[0] missing[1] /dev/sdd1[2] /dev/sde1[4]? If I could get that to work I could start it in degraded mode and add the new drive /dev/sdc1 and let it resync again. It's OK if you would like to point out to me that this may not have been the best course of action, but you'll find that I realized this. It would be great if anyone has any suggestions.

  • SKProductsRequest delegate methods are never called.

    This used to work for me but is now not working anymore and I can't figure out why. I have in-app purchase setup in my app. I confirmed that I have a correct set of product identifiers, matched by corresponding in-app purchase items in itunesconnect. The call goes out to Apple view [productRequest start], but I never get a response back, despite setting the delegate to myself. What am I missing?     I'm writing sql to search a database by a number of parameters. How would I go about ordering the result set by the items that match the most parameters in the where clause. For example: SELECT * FROM users WHERE username = 'eitan' OR email = '[email protected]' OR company = 'eitan' Username | email | company 1) eitan | [email protected] | blah 2) eitan | [email protected] | eitan 3) eitan | [email protected] | blah should be ordered like: 2, 3, 1.   • htaccess rewriterule with order in url

    I'm trying to put together a rewrite rule for an Apache server. It should take 'order/###' and change it to 'order.php?id=###'. For some reason it's rewriting as 'order.php/###'. If I change it to anything other than 'order' my rule works fine. Anyone know what's going on?   • Store Observer not being called always

    Has anyone else here experienced problems with their Store Observer class not being called always when the user for instance cancels a request (or purchases something) We just had our update that brought in app purchases go live last night, and before that we had obviously tested everything tons of times against the Sandbox and everything was working fine. Now however, when the update went live in a real environment we keep getting issues with the store. For instance, in a freshly booted iPhone / iPod, the first time you run the app, if you then try to make a purchase and then immediately cancel it from the first dialog, it seems as if the callback for the cancel is not getting called. If you then restart the app it seems as if it always works after that, or at least. Same thing with other callbacks, seems as if our store observer isn't listening as the callbacks aren't being registered on the phone. One example of this is if you purchase something, then nothing will happen (if this is the first time the app is launched at least). You get the purchase successful dialog from the app store but it seems as if our own code isn't called. If you then quit the app and restart it the callback gets called. Same problem happens if you for instance try to start a request to download all previous purchases and then immediately cancel it as the first dialog pops up, if you do that then the callback for a failed restore is not called, until you then restart the app and try it again, then it always seems to work. The way we have implemented our store observer is by creating a custom class that's implements the SKPaymentTransactionObserver interface. @interface StoreObserver : NSObject<SKPaymentTransactionObserver> In the class we have implemented the following methods: - (void)paymentQueue:(SKPaymentQueue *)queue updatedTransactions:(NSArray *)transactions - (void)paymentQueueRestoreCompletedTransactionsFinished:(SKPaymentQueue *)queue - (void)paymentQueue:(SKPaymentQueue *)queue restoreCompletedTransactionsFailedWithError:(NSError *)error The way our restore process works is that if you tap on the button that allows you to download all we simply run the restoreCompletedTransactions code as follows: [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] restoreCompletedTransactions]; However, the callback, restoreCompletedTransactionsFailedWithError, which has been implemented in the store observer, does not always get called when we try to cancel the request. This happens when you boot the iPhone / iPod and try this for the first time. If you after that restart the app everything works fine. The StoreObserver class is created when our app is launched, just by running the following code: pStoreObserver = [[StoreObserver alloc] init]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] addTransactionObserver:pStoreObserver]; Has anyone else had any similar experiences? Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this? As I said, in the sandbox environment everything was working fine, no issues whatsoever, but now once it's gone live we're experiencing these.

    Can some one tell me if it is possible to submit two different iphone applications which has same Icon.png but have a different bundle name? I am working on a travel guide app that is targeted for different cities. I want the users of different cities to download the app as per their cities. So I want to submit different apps for different cities(3 in my case). User can also purchase any of these cities through in-app purchase. In that case the new purchased city would be unlocked in the app. Here is my thing. I want the same icon for all the three apps. I can do away with different names for app store and bundle(home screen icon name). But I am not sure if apple would approve/reject this app. Can someone enhance this blur picture I have?

For example, let's suppose I have a class called X with two Attributes, A and B, and I have the following objects, in that order: object1 = A = "a", B = "h" object2 = A = "a", B = "c" object3 = A = "b", B = "x" object4 = A = "b", B = "b" and I want to order the list by A attribute first, and when they are equals, by B element, so the order would be: "a" "c" "a" "h" "b" "b" "b" "x" As far as I know, the OrderBy method order by one parameter.   • What's the strategy to implement a "knowledge base" in my company. [closed]

    In my current work we think we can get benefit from having a knowledge base, so the next time someone has a question/problem etc, that base can be consulted and an answer will show up. Also, it will reduce the risk from having people leaving the company with the knowledge and we would have to start all over again. My question is, what strategy can we follow to implement/buy/get/build/etc this knowledge base? Are there software ready for this? Would it be better to have something build by ourselves ( we have some programmers ) This is an small company ( < 30 ) and the base should be accessible from outside the office ( when the employees are with the customer etc.) so I guess a webapp is in order.

    Do you find yourself always scrolling and scrolling and scrolling to get to the column you want to see when looking at a table or view’s data? Don’t do that! Instead, just right-click on the column headers, select ‘Columns’, and reorder as desired. Access the Manage Columns dialog Then move up the columns you want to see first… Put them in the order you want – it won’t affect the database. Now I see the data I want to see, when I want to see it – no scrolling. This will only change how the data is displayed for you, and SQL Developer will remember this ordering until you ‘Delete Persisted Settings…’ What IS Remembered Via These ‘Persisted Settings?’ Column Widths Column Sorts Column Positions Find/Highlights This means if you manipulate one of these settings, SQL Developer will remember them the next time you open the tool and go to that table or view.   • Functional Methods on Collections

    I'm learning Scala and am a little bewildered by all the methods (higher-order functions) available on the collections. Which ones produce more results than the original collection, which ones produce less, and which are most appropriate for a given problem? Though I'm studying Scala, I think this would pertain to most modern functional languages (Clojure, Haskell) and also to Java 8 which introduces these methods on Java collections. Specifically, right now I'm wondering about map with filter vs. fold/reduce. I was delighted that using foldRight() can yield the same result as a map(...).filter(...) with only one traversal of the underlying collection. But a friend pointed out that foldRight() may force sequential processing while map() is friendlier to being processed by multiple processors in parallel. Maybe this is why mapReduce() is so popular? More generally, I'm still sometimes surprised when I chain several of these methods together to get back a List(List()) or to pass a List(List()) and get back just a List(). For instance, when would I use: collection.map(a => a.map(b => ...)) vs. collection.map(a => ...).map(b => ...) The for/yield command does nothing to help this confusion. Am I asking about the difference between a "fold" and "unfold" operation? Am I trying to jam too many questions into one? I think there may be an underlying concept that, if I understood it, might answer all these questions, or at least tie the answers together.

  • MySQL: order by and limit gives wrong result

    MySQL ver 5.1.26 I'm getting the wrong result with a select that has where, order by and limit clauses. It's only a problem when the order by uses the id column. I saw the MySQL manual for LIMIT Optimization My guess from reading the manual is that there is some problem with the index on the primary key, id. But I don't know where I should go from here... Question: what should I do to best solve the problem?
