  • How do I recover an accidentaly closed Opera window?

    Hello there and thanks for all the help! I accidentaly closed a window with multiple tabs in Opera. There was another window with a couple of tabs running. I have closed and restarted Opera in the hope it will retrieve the windows at startup (it usually asks if I want to continue from last time). Is there a way I can retrieve my closed window with all the tabs? I cannot see them in the history either, probably because When I switched-on my PC the Internet connection was down and the pages didn't load :-/

  • Software Raid 10 corrupted superblock after dual disk failure, how do I recover it?

    I have a software raid 10 with 6 x 2tb hard drives (raid 1 for /boot), ubuntu 10.04 is the os. I had a raid controller failure that put 2 drives out of sync, crashed the system and initially the os didnt boot up and went into initramfs instead, saying that drives were busy but I eventually managed to bring the raid up by stopping and assembling the drives. The os booted up and said that there were filesystem errors, I chose to ignore because it would remount the fs in read-only mode if there was a problem. Everything seemed to be working fine and the 2 drives started to rebuild, I was sure that it was a sata controller failure because I had dma errors in my log files. The os crashed soon after that with ext errors. Now its not bringing up the raid, it says that there is no superblock on /dev/sda2, even if I assemble manually with all the device names. I also did a memtest and changed the motherboard in addition to everything else.   • Need to reformat SQL Cluster Disk. How do I recover my SQL installation?

  • Possible to recover older, previously deleted files with R-studio?

    The files and directories on one of my ntfs partition were wiped out last time. I used R-studio to scan the partition, and it did find many files, actually more than the capacity of the partition. This is because R-studio found files that were deleted even earlier. So I wonder if it is possible to specify those files and directories deleted last time instead of those deleted earlier for recovery? R-studio has a free demo version, for which scanning is free,but recovery isn't.   • Can I recover data from external HDD or do I format and lose it all?

    I have a Maxtor external HDD 500GB but haven't used it for a year or so. I have plugged it into a new laptop as the one I used it with before is busted. I know that there is a ton of data on the HDD that I would love to have the use of - mostly family and friends photos to be honest. But when I click on the HDD in Windows Explorer the only option I am given is to reformat the drive and lose the data. I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me if there is a way to get the data off the external drive before formatting it and losing it all.

  • How to recover the data from the crashed (external) hard disk drive (NTFS)?

    The 300 GB harddisk has 2 partitions,90 GB and 200 GB! I can see the drives in windows(XP) but unable to access them, the file system is shown as RAW, 0 used space and 0 free space!..chkdsk returns the error "unable to determine volume version and date. chkddsk aborted." Is the MBR corrupt? How do I restore it? TestDisk tool isn't recognizing the partitions and says invalid entry for heads/cylinder, 15 and should be 255 and suggests to change it..Should I go ahead and change it? Please advise!

  • Disaster - partitions lost, data seemingly alive, how to recover?

    I've used TestDisk and it's written my old partition structure of a ~20GiB partition for Vista, ~25GiB partition for 7 (but it now shows up as unallocated) and a ~400GiB partition for documents. What it's meant to be is a 30GiB partition for 7, some unallocated space, and a ~400GiB partition for documents. So currently, I have access to all my documents, but not any of the programs I've installed on C:, or AppData, because my boot partition is now supposedly a 20GB vista partition. I've tried using my Windows 7 install disc's repair function, but that did nothing beyond wasting about 10 minutes of my time. I'm currently posting from an Ubuntu live CD. Any help?

  • Is it possible to recover from the Windows 8 refresh feature?

    The intention of the Windows 8 RTM (released version) Refresh feature is to restore the system to the way it was when I first installed. It didn't though. Almost everything that came in the start-screen (not a menu any more) is gone, not just third party apps I installed, but EVERYTHING other than the icon for internet explorer, and the icon for the store, and the desktop, were wiped. Out of the box Windows 8 had a pretty large list of things installed, and it seems that the Refresh feature wipes all of them out. Is it possible to really get the system back to a fresh install state, or should I just re-install from the DVD I made? (I have access to Windows 8 RTM, legally through the MS Action Pack subscription.) I suspect that if I create a new account, I might get a new desktop with a default set of icons, but I'm hoping it might be possible to do this without using a different login. The second problem with Windows 8 refresh is it seems to trash the ACL's on my C: drive, taking all permissions away for access to the C: drive, making nothing on it visible or readable to my primary and only login account. I believe it might be possible to undo the damage done by the "refresh" with some judicious use of icacls from the command prompt.

  • How can I recover my data from a damaged hard drive?

    a few days ago when I was working on windows my laptop was beaten on the side where the hard drive is located. As a result, it was damaged and I couldn't access the windows partition. I had to boot the linux one, which is working without any trouble. I have 2 partition formatted with ntfs, the one with windows on it, and the other one intended to store data. I mounted the windows partition from ubuntu and I could see all my files. But when I tried to mount the data partition it was impossible. It threw me an error, it couldn't recognize ntfs partition. I try to copy the damaged disk into an external hard drive using the command: dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb conv=noerror,sync The progress stopped at 60%. I was still unable to mount the data partition. Now I'm trying to backup my files using an utility called Photorec. The problem is that it is recovering my files in a disorderly way, it is all mixed up and I need my original directory structure, it will become an endless task to organize the files as they were before. Is there any way I can get my partition back?

    I have an external HD (WD MyBook Essentials) with all of my backups (1TB) for some unknown reason, when I try to connect the drive (Tried several interfaces: eSATA/plugged it into my PC/USB) I get this message: "You need to format the disk in drive M: before you can use it" I've looked in disk management at the drive, and its listed in there - with the same full capacity.   • VSS: How do I recover from "File <foo> has been destroyed, and cannot be rebuilt."?

    We're running Visual SourceSafe 6.0 (build 8163). In one project, there's an old label I want to do a Get on, but a few files have been added and destroyed since that label was created. Now everytime I try to do a Get on the label - for each destroyed file - I get the warning "File has been destroyed and cannot be rebuilt, do you want to continue?", (which seems completely stupid, since the destroyed files never existed before the label was set). I've tried adding files with the same name, but that didn't help. I also tried deleting (not destroying) those added files, but that didn't help either. I really want to be rid of the warning, since the home-cooked building app we use to build all the projects doesn't handle this error/warning, and hence can't Get the label requested and build that project. Help! (and no, running VSS is not by choice, trust me, I was hoping never to see it again after the first time I was forced to use it, which was ten years ago)
