  • Windows XP update not working

    I have a problem with XP updating. It hangs when I try to search for updates on the website. But the automatic updates still work. And it's running IE6, so I'm trying to update to IE8, hoping that will fix the problems with the website. But when installing IE8 it just hangs at Installing Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP And if I try to install it manually, it hangs when installing the updates for IE8. So looking at these logs, is there anything going wrong with the update process? The application have a good internet connection and there is no problem reaching the app server-side api. I see in analytics that lots of startups and click-events the past few days are lost, even I know the traffic is normal since i can see statistics from the the server api. In the analytics reports I see a day by day under-reporting. So the problems seems to be spreading/growing to all the devices using this application. Im wondering why google does not answer this in their mail-groups - several people have complained about this...well, well... I found this thread relevant: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/682560/java-net-socketexception-broken-pipe But, I'm still not sure if there is anything I can do to fix it or not. If there is nothing I can do to fix it, I guess its not my fault that it got broken. But i got a feeling it is, since the problem got dramatically worse on the last deploy to Android market.     I have the following scenario.The implementation is required for a real time application. 1)I need to store at max 20 entries in a container(STL Map, STL List etc). 2)If a new entry comes and 20 entries are already present i have to overwrite the oldest entry with the new entry. Considering point 2, i feel if the container is full (Max 20 entries) 'list' is the best bet as i can always remove the first entry in the list and add the new one at last (push_back). However, search won't be as efficient. For only 20 entries, does it really make a big difference in terms of searching efficiency if i use a list in place of a map? Also considering the cost of insertion in map i feel i should go for a list? Could you please tell what is a better bet for me ?

But all jokes aside, it is often as if 20% of your code is to do what you want, and the other 80% is to handle exceptions... so does the 80/20 rule really apply to developers? Can this factor improve my chance to get Ph.D. in good university(say top 20 in US). Normally good universities like CMU, standford, MIT, Cornell are more interested in student's profile like research work, under graduate school etc. I am not passed out from very good university its ranked in top 20 of India only. Neither did i do research work till now. But being one of founding member of company and developing product for same, i want to know if this factor can help and to what extent. For university with ranking lower than 20 what matters most is GRE General score and GPA but i guess top university must be appreciating a person's real efforts.

Router B's private subnet links thru a firewall to a 10.20.20.0 network at another organization. Router B redistributes to A and C several static routes for hosts on 10.20.20.0. However, a new host 10.20.20.5/32 must be reached via a different path that goes through router C. I know that C can advertise this host-based route with no problem, but I'd like to keep all my 10.20.20.x static routes in one place. So, how can B tell A via RIPv2 to send packets for 10.20.20.5/32 to C?     Routers A, B & C live at 10.1.1.1, 10.1.1.2 and 10.1.1.3 on a /24 metro Ethernet subnet. Each router also has its own private subnet on another interface. Router B's private subnet links thru a firewall to a 10.20.20.0 network at another organization. Router B redistributes to A and C several static routes for hosts on 10.20.20.0. However, a new host 10.20.20.5/32 must be reached via a different path that goes through router C. I know that C can advertise this host-based route with no problem, but I'd like to keep all my 10.20.20.x static routes in one place. So, how can B tell A via RIPv2 to send packets for 10.20.20.5/32 to C?     We have several machines on Amazon (ec2) of the type c1.xlarge with 16 cpus, running the Amazon AMI. Details on the machine: 7 GB of memory 20 EC2 Compute Units (8 virtual cores with 2.5 EC2 Compute Units each) 1690 GB of instance storage 64-bit platform I/O Performance: High API name: c1.xlarge One out of the several machines is showing a high load average, since we have run the last yum upgrade a couple of weeks a go. We did not yet update the other machines, and everything looks normal on them. The strange thing is that the top command not showing any hint for the cause of the load. CPUs are 4.8%us, 1.1%sy, 0.0%ni, 94.1%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st(see below). Mem is about 1.5GB free. Any idea what could it be, or where else can we check? I have a web server at mydomain.com, running qmail for website related mail delivery (i.e. newsletter, sign up confirmation, etc). qmail here is used only to send mails, because I have a fully working Google App Gmail associated with mydomain.com for normal email receiving. qmail runs fine when sending email to remote addresses, for example to [email protected], but fails when sending to [email protected]. I think it's because the server thinks that he have to manage mailboxes for mydomain.com locally, instead of redirect them to Gmail.   • PHP application failed to connect after a network plugged back in

    My data-center appears to have had some issues with their network and thus my server has suffered from on an off network connectivity for about an hour. After the connection has been completely re-established my code still kept reporting the same issue over and over until I have restarted the service. The code is a simple PHP code that loops forever checking the Apple feed-back server and then sleeps for a few minutes and then it begins all over again. Now I understand the error being generated if the network is down but once it got back up why did it continue until I have restarted the code? Does PHP have something that needs to be re-initialized or something?? There are many combination to display this data by customer id, customer id and itemnumber, customer id, itemnumber, work and history condition. And from date and To date condition. My query is when I am selecting the customer id and work or history table it should display the corresponding data. Like select * from price history where customerid=’custid’ and name=’Work’. It should display in scroll only these values none other it the same way history condition should work. Work and History are in check box. In my case whatever range I am selecting whether Work and History always loading with entire data, so it’s not filtering properly. My second problem is if I select from date and keep empty to date …in this case all the data should display from selected from date to end of table data.   • Linux server apache httpd processes take i/o wait to close to 100% and lock down server

    For about 5 days now, and seemingly out of the blue, my linux server has started locking up from time to time. The pattern is always the same as far as I can tell from top and iotop commands around the time it starts happening: One or more httpd processes (usually one) hang and start using up 100% of CPU power, the %wa goes close to 100% and in the iotop I see several httpd processes with 99.99% in the IO column. I'm also running an SVN server on this machine through apache and the one way that I've been consistently able to reproduce this is to do an SVN commit of new files or an SVN update from the repository on this server (I am the only one using this SVN repository). This will always reproduce this scenario successfully, but until very recently I had no problems at all checking in/out of SVN. But sometimes it just happens for no detectable reason at all it seems. So it seems like there is some issue with my Apache that leads it to have processes use up a lot of read/write upon certain triggers. I was wondering if anyone could help me uncover that issue. I killed that service but %wa and load average remain high, I also stopped mysqld and other services. It really only goes down once I stop httpd altogether, and even then I can't start it without finding remaining hanging httpd processes via "netstat -tulpn", killing those or doing "killall -9 httpd" and after waiting a while for it to cycle through all those then doing /etc/init.d/httpd start

    I have a reasonably-decent old 20-pin PSU which I want to use on a newer 24-pin ATX motherboard. I see that the ATX page on wikipedia mentions that 24-pin ATX is backward-compatible, and I can find 20-to-24 pin adapters to buy for a couple of dollars/pounds at lots of places, but I can't find any mention of restrictions on the use of these. Will this work on any motherboard, or is it a per-motherboard compatibility question? Are there any other restrictions like the level of power available (and hence the additional 4 pins with +12, +5 and +3.3V lines which are already on other pins)?
