• Synchronize Data between a Silverlight ListBox and a User Control

- by psheriff
One of the great things about XAML is the powerful data-binding capabilities. If you load up a list box with a collection of objects, you can display detail data about each object without writing any C# or VB.NET code. Take a look at Figure 1 that shows a collection of Product objects in a list box. When you click on a list box you bind the current Product object selected in the list box to a set of controls in a user control with just a very simple Binding statement in XAML. Figure 1: Synchronizing a ListBox to a User Control is easy with Data Binding Product and Products Classes To illustrate this data binding feature I am going to just create some local data instead of using a WCF service. The code below shows a Product class that has three properties, namely, ProductId, ProductName and Price. This class also has a constructor that takes 3 parameters and allows us to set the 3 properties in an instance of our Product class. C#public class Product{ public Product(int productId, string productName, decimal price) { ProductId = productId; ProductName = productName; Price = price; } public int ProductId { get; set; } public string ProductName { get; set; } public decimal Price { get; set; }} VBPublic Class Product Public Sub New(ByVal _productId As Integer, _ ByVal _productName As String, _ ByVal _price As Decimal) ProductId = _productId ProductName = _productName Price = _price End Sub Private mProductId As Integer Private mProductName As String Private mPrice As Decimal Public Property ProductId() As Integer Get Return mProductId End Get Set(ByVal value As Integer) mProductId = value End Set End Property Public Property ProductName() As String Get Return mProductName End Get Set(ByVal value As String) mProductName = value End Set End Property Public Property Price() As Decimal Get Return mPrice End Get Set(ByVal value As Decimal) mPrice = value End Set End PropertyEnd Class To fill up a list box you need a collection class of Product objects. The code below creates a generic collection class of Product objects. In the constructor of the Products class I have hard-coded five product objects and added them to the collection. In a real-world application you would get your data through a call to service to fill the list box, but for simplicity and just to illustrate the data binding, I am going to just hard code the data. C#public class Products : List<Product>{ public Products() { this.Add(new Product(1, "Microsoft VS.NET 2008", 1000)); this.Add(new Product(2, "Microsoft VS.NET 2010", 1000)); this.Add(new Product(3, "Microsoft Silverlight 4", 1000)); this.Add(new Product(4, "Fundamentals of N-Tier eBook", 20)); this.Add(new Product(5, "ASP.NET Security eBook", 20)); }} VBPublic Class Products Inherits List(Of Product) Public Sub New() Me.Add(New Product(1, "Microsoft VS.NET 2008", 1000)) Me.Add(New Product(2, "Microsoft VS.NET 2010", 1000)) Me.Add(New Product(3, "Microsoft Silverlight 4", 1000)) Me.Add(New Product(4, "Fundamentals of N-Tier eBook", 20)) Me.Add(New Product(5, "ASP.NET Security eBook", 20)) End SubEnd Class The Product Detail User Control Below is a user control (named ucProduct) that is used to display the product detail information seen in the bottom portion of Figure 1. This is very basic XAML that just creates a text block and a text box control for each of the three properties in the Product class. Notice the {Binding Path=[PropertyName]} on each of the text box controls. This means that if the DataContext property of this user control is set to an instance of a Product class, then the data in the properties of that Product object will be displayed in each of the text boxes. <UserControl x:Class="SL_SyncListBoxAndUserControl_CS.ucProduct" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top"> <Grid Margin="4"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" /> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" /> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition MinWidth="120" /> <ColumnDefinition /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <TextBlock Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" Text="Product Id" /> <TextBox Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Text="{Binding Path=ProductId}" /> <TextBlock Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" Text="Product Name" /> <TextBox Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" Text="{Binding Path=ProductName}" /> <TextBlock Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="0" Text="Price" /> <TextBox Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="1" Text="{Binding Path=Price}" /> </Grid></UserControl> Synchronize ListBox with User Control You are now ready to fill the list box with the collection class of Product objects and then bind the SelectedItem of the list box to the Product detail user control. The XAML below is the complete code for Figure 1. <UserControl x:Class="SL_SyncListBoxAndUserControl_CS.MainPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:src="clr-namespace:SL_SyncListBoxAndUserControl_CS" VerticalAlignment="Top" HorizontalAlignment="Left"> <UserControl.Resources> <src:Products x:Key="productCollection" /> </UserControl.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Margin="4" Background="White"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" /> <RowDefinition Height="*" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <ListBox x:Name="lstData" Grid.Row="0" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="1" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource productCollection}}" DisplayMemberPath="ProductName" /> <src:ucProduct x:Name="prodDetail" Grid.Row="1" DataContext="{Binding ElementName=lstData, Path=SelectedItem}" /> </Grid></UserControl> The first step to making this happen is to reference the Silverlight project (SL_SyncListBoxAndUserControl_CS) where the Product and Products classes are located. I added this namespace and assigned it a namespace prefix of “src” as shown in the line below: xmlns:src="clr-namespace:SL_SyncListBoxAndUserControl_CS" Next, to use the data from an instance of the Products collection, you create a UserControl.Resources section in the XAML and add a tag that creates an instance of the Products class and assigns it a key of “productCollection”. <UserControl.Resources> <src:Products x:Key="productCollection" /> </UserControl.Resources> Next, you bind the list box to this productCollection object using the ItemsSource property. You bind the ItemsSource of the list box to the static resource named productCollection. You can then set the DisplayMemberPath attribute of the list box to any property of the Product class that you want. In the XAML below I used the ProductName property. <ListBox x:Name="lstData" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource productCollection}}" DisplayMemberPath="ProductName" /> You now need to create an instance of the ucProduct user contol below the list box. You do this by once again referencing the “src” namespace and typing in the name of the user control. You then set the DataContext property on this user control to a binding. The binding uses the ElementName attribute to bind to the list box name, in this case “lstData”. The Path of the data is SelectedItem. These two attributes together tell Silverlight to bind the DataContext to the selected item of the list box. That selected item is a Product object. So, once this is bound, the bindings on each text box in the user control are updated and display the current product information. <src:ucProduct x:Name="prodDetail" DataContext="{Binding ElementName=lstData, Path=SelectedItem}" /> Summary Once you understand the basics of data binding in XAML, you eliminate a lot code that is otherwise needed to move data into controls and out of controls back into an object. Connecting two controls together is easy by just binding using the ElementName and Path properties of the Binding markup extension. Another good tip out of this blog is use user controls and set the DataContext of the user control to have all of the data on the user control update through the bindings. • 'Element is already the child of another element' error in Silverlight App.xaml

- by rwwilden
Hi, I keep getting a strange error inside my App.xaml file: Element is already the child of another element. My App.xaml file looks like this: <Application xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="Celerior.Annapurna.SL.App"> <Application.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="ProvisiorResourceDictionary.xaml"/> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> </ResourceDictionary> </Application.Resources> </Application> The error is reported for the entire ResourceDictionary element (from lines 5 to 9). ProvisiorResourceDictionary.xaml contains a number of styles and templates. Nothing exciting in my opinion. Does anyone know what is wrong? Kind regards, Ronald Wildenberg

• "The specified type was not recognized" exception when trying to invoke a webservice call

- by fretje
I'm trying to call a third party webservice using WSE 3.0 as a client in Visual Studio 2005. The call works fine and I can see that I get a good response (I have tracing enabled), but apparently the xml parser chokes over it. I always get an InvalidOperationException: There is en error in the XML document. with an InnerException: The specified type was not recognized: name='Map', namespace='http://xml.apache.org/xml-soap', at <bevoegdheid xmlns=''>. This is the relevant part of the response: <SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:ns1="http://xml.apache.org/xml-soap" xmlns:SOAP-ENC="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" xmlns:ns2="https://acceptatie.cartalk.nl/Soap/Apk" SOAP-ENV:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/"> <SOAP-ENV:Body> <SOAP-ENV:opvragenKeurmeesterGegevensResponse> <opvragenKeurmeesterGegevensReturn xsi:type="ns2:Backend_Apk_Result_OpvragenKeurmeesterGegevens"> <naam xsi:type="xsd:string">A name</naam> ... <bevoegdheid SOAP-ENC:arrayType="ns1:Map[2]" xsi:type="SOAP-ENC:Array">

<key xsi:type="xsd:string">soortBevoegdheid</key> <value xsi:type="xsd:string">AL</value>
...

...
</bevoegdheid> <meldingSoort xsi:nil="true" /> <meldingNummer xsi:nil="true" /> <melding xsi:nil="true" /> </opvragenKeurmeesterGegevensReturn> </SOAP-ENV:opvragenKeurmeesterGegevensResponse> </SOAP-ENV:Body> </SOAP-ENV:Envelope> And this is how that "bevoegdheid" is defined in the wsdl: <xsd:element name="bevoegdheid" type="soap-enc:Array" /> There is no mention of a "Map" type anywhere in the wsdl. I have been googling around for this, but the only kind of answer I've found is something along the lines of The service uses rpc/encoded format which is harder to get interoperability with. If you can change the server to document/literal it is better. But as this is a third party service (which is already used by other clients), this is no option for us. Any other suggestions? How can I get the xml parser to recognize that "Map" type?

• WPF dynamic layout: how to enforce square proportions (width equals height)?

- by Gart
I'm learning WPF and can't figure out how to enfore my buttons to take a square shape. Here is my XAML Markup: <Window x:Class="Example" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Height="368" Width="333"> <Window.Resources> </Window.Resources> <RadioButton Style="{StaticResource ToggleStyle}"> Very very long text </RadioButton> </Window> Specifying explicit values for Width and Height attributes seems like a wrong idea - the button should calculate its dimensions based on its contents automagically, but keep its width and height equal. Is this possible?

• Silverlight MouseLeftButtonDown event not firing

- by Matt
For the life of me, I can not get this to work. I can get MouseEnter, MouseLeave, and Click events to fire, but not MouseLeftButtonDown or MouseLeftButtonUp. Here's my XAML <UserControl x:Class="Dive.Map.MainPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" > </UserControl> And here's my code public partial class MainPage : UserControl { public MainPage() { InitializeComponent(); } private void btnTest_MouseLeftButtonDown( object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e ) { btnTest.Content = DateTime.Now.ToString(); } private void LayoutRoot_MouseLeftButtonDown( object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e ) { e.Handled = false; } } What am I doing wrong?

• WPF storyboard animation issue when using VisualBrush

- by Flack
Hey guys, I was playing around with storyboards, a flipping animation, and visual brushes. I have encountered an issue though. Below is the xaml and code-behind of a small sample I quickly put together to try to demonstrate the problem. When you first start the app, you are presented with a red square and two buttons. If you click the "Flip" button, the red square will "flip" over and a blue one will appear. In reality, all that is happening is that the scale of the width of the StackPanel that the red square is in is being decreased until it reaches zero and then the StackPanel where a blue square is, whose width is initially scaled to zero, has its width increased. If you click the "Flip" button a few times, the animation looks ok and smooth. Now, if you hit the "Reflection" button, a reflection of the red/blue buttons is added to their respective StackPanels. Hitting the "Flip" button now will still cause the flip animation but it is no longer a smooth animation. The StackPanels width often does not shrink to zero. The width shrinks somewhat but then just stops before being completely invisible. Then the other StackPanel appears as usual. The only thing that changed was adding the reflection, which is just a VisualBrush. Below is the code. Does anyone have any idea why the animations are different between the two cases (stalling in the second case)? Thanks. <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xml:lang="en-US" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2006" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" x:Class="WpfFlipTest.Window1" x:Name="Window" Title="Window1" Width="214" Height="224"> <Window.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlip"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="redStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.4" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.4" Storyboard.TargetName="blueStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.8" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlipBack"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="blueStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.4" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.4" Storyboard.TargetName="redStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.8" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> </Window.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Gray"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <StackPanel Name="redStack" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="redBorder" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Width="Auto" Height="Auto">  </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=redBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=redBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Name="redRefelction" Visibility="Collapsed"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=redButton}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Name="blueStack" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="0"/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="blueBorder" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Width="Auto" Height="Auto">  </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=blueBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=blueBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Name="blueRefelction" Visibility="Collapsed"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=blueButton}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> Flip Reflection </Grid> </Window> Here are the button click handlers: using System; } bool flipped = false; private void FlipButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { Storyboard sbFlip = (Storyboard)Resources["sbFlip"]; Storyboard sbFlipBack = (Storyboard)Resources["sbFlipBack"]; if (flipped) { sbFlipBack.Begin(); flipped = false; } else { sbFlip.Begin(); flipped = true; } } bool reflection = false; private void ReflectionButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { if (reflection) { reflection = false; redRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; blueRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; } else { reflection = true; redRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; blueRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; } } } } UPDATE: I have been testing this some more to try to find out what is causing the issue I am seeing and I believe I found what is causing the issue. Below I have pasted new xaml and code-behind. The new sample below is very similar to the original sample, with a few minor modifications. The xaml basically consists of two stack panels, each containing two borders. The second border in each stack panel is a visual brush (a reflection of the border above it). Now, when I click the "Flip" button, one stack panel gets its ScaleX reduced to zero, while the second stack panel, whose initial ScaleX is zero, gets its ScaleX increased to 1. This animation gives the illusion of flipping. There are also two textblocks which display the scale factor of each stack panel. I added those to try to diagnose my issue. The issue is (as described in the oringal post) that the flipping animation is not smooth. Every time I hit the flip button, the animation starts but whenever the ScaleX factor gets to around .14 to .16, the animation looks like it stalls and the stack panels never have there ScaleX reduced to zero, so they never totally disappear. Now, the strange thing is that if I change the Width/Height properties of the "frontBorder" and "backBorder" borders defined below to use explict values instead of Auto, such as Width=105 and Height=75 (to match the button in the border) everything works fine. The animation stutters the first two or three times I run it but after that the flips are smooth and flawless. (BTW, when an animation is run for the first time, is there something going on in the background, some sort of initialization, that causes it to be a little slow the first time?) Is it possible that the Auto Width/Height of the borders are causing the issue? I can reproduce it everytime but I am not sure why Auto Width/Height would be a problem. Below is the sample. Thanks for the help. <Window x:Class="FlipTest.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Window.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlip"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="front" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.5" Storyboard.TargetName="back" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlipBack"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="back" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.5" Storyboard.TargetName="front" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> </Window.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White" ShowGridLines="True"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <StackPanel x:Name="front" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="frontBorder" BorderBrush="Yellow" BorderThickness="2" Width="Auto" Height="Auto">  </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=frontBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=frontBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=frontBorder}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> <StackPanel x:Name="back" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="0"/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="backBorder" BorderBrush="Yellow" BorderThickness="2" Width="Auto" Height="Auto">  </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=backBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=backBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=backBorder}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> Flip <TextBlock Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="0" Foreground="DarkRed" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76" Text="{Binding ElementName=front, Path=(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)}"/> <TextBlock Grid.Row="3" Grid.Column="0" Foreground="DarkBlue" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76" Text="{Binding ElementName=back, Path=(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)}"/> </Grid> </Window> Code-behind: using System;   • WiX unresolved reference error

I'm using Wix version 3.0.5419.0. I have two .wxs files, one which is a fragment, and another which uses the fragment to create the .msi file. Here is the file which uses the fragment (DaisyFarmer.wxs): <Wix xmlns='http://schemas.microsoft.com/wix/2006/wi' xmlns:iis='http://schemas.microsoft.com/wix/IIsExtension'> <Product Name='Daisy Web Site 1.0' Id='BB7FBBE4-0A25-4cc7-A39C-AC916B665220' UpgradeCode='8A5311DE-A125-418f-B0E1-5A30B9C667BD' Language='1033' Codepage='1252' Version='1.0.0' Manufacturer='the man'> <Package Id='5F341544-4F95-4e01-A2F8-EF74448C0D6D' Keywords='Installer' Description="desc" Manufacturer='the man' InstallerVersion='100' Languages='1033' Compressed='yes' SummaryCodepage='1252' /> <Media Id='1' Cabinet='Sample.cab' EmbedCab='yes' DiskPrompt="CD-ROM #1" /> <Property Id='DiskPrompt' Value="the man" /> <PropertyRef Id="NETFRAMEWORK35"/> <Condition Message='This setup requires the .NET Framework 3.5.'> Installed OR (NETFRAMEWORK35) </Condition> <Feature Id='DaisyFarmer' Title='DaisyFarmer' Level='1'> <ComponentRef Id='SchedulerComponent' /> </Feature> </Product> </Wix> The fragment I'm referencing is (Scheduler.wxs): <Wix xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/wix/2006/wi"> <Fragment> <DirectoryRef Id="TARGETDIR"> <Directory Id="dir2787390E4B7313EB8005DE08108EFEA4" Name="scheduler"> <Component Id="SchedulerComponent" Guid="{9254F7E1-DE41-4EE5-BC0F-BA668AF051CB}"> <File Id="fil9A013D0BFB837BAC71FED09C59C5501B" KeyPath="yes" Source="SourceDir\DTBookMonitor.exe" /> <File Id="fil4F0D8D05F53E6AFBDB498E7C75C2D98F" KeyPath="no" Source="SourceDir\DTBookMonitor.exe.config" /> <File Id="filF02F4686267D027CB416E044E8C8C2FA" KeyPath="no" Source="SourceDir\monitor.bat" /> <File Id="fil05B8FF38A3C85FE6C4A58CD6FDFCD2FB" KeyPath="no" Source="SourceDir\output.txt" /> <File Id="fil397F04E2527DCFDF7E8AC1DD92E48264" KeyPath="no" Source="SourceDir\pipelineOutput.txt" /> <File Id="fil83DFACFE7F661A9FF89AA17428474929" KeyPath="no" Source="SourceDir\process.bat" /> <File Id="fil2809039236E0072642C52C6A52AD6F2F" KeyPath="no" Source="SourceDir\README.txt" /> </Component> </Directory> </DirectoryRef> </Fragment> </Wix> I then run the following commands: candle -ext WixUtilExtension -ext WiXNetFxExtension DaisyFarmer.wxs Scheduler.wxs light -sice:ICE20 -ext WixUtilExtension -ext WiXNetFxExtension Scheduler.wixobj DaisyFarmer.wixobj -out DaisyFarmer.msi I'm getting an error when I run light.exe which says "DaisyFarmer.wxs(20) : error LGHT0094 : Unresolved reference to symbol 'Component:SchedulerComponent' in section 'Product:{BB7FBBE4-0A25-4CC7-A39C-AC916B665220}'." • XML/XSD intellisense not working in Visual Studio 2010

- by Jason
I am working on xml and xsd files in VS 2010 but intellisense isn't working. Intellisense is working for the same files in VS 2008, however. When I type '<xs:' options like "attribute", "complexType", "simpleType", or "element" do not appear. Is there some difference between the VS 2008 and VS 2010 that I'm missing? I add an xsd file to my solution. All the proper namespaces are generated automatically as such: <xs:schema id="XMLSchema2" targetNamespace="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema2.xsd" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema2.xsd" xmlns:mstns="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema2.xsd" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> </xs:schema> The "xsdschema.xsd" is in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\xml\Schemas" directory. There is a check mark in the "Use" column in the XML Schemas dialog box.

• Howto bind a RoutedCommand in a child?

- by Wouter
I am having trouble binding a Command that is generated up the UI tree to a control. The following example illustrates my point, the CommandBinding in Grid does not act on the InputBindings in Window. Maybe I do not understand the point of commands, but I would like to have a nice solution for child controls to act on user input on the Window (any control on the Window). <Window x:Class="SilverFit.Menu.Wpf.WpfWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"> <Window.InputBindings> <KeyBinding Command="Close" Key="Escape"/> <MouseBinding Command="Close" MouseAction="RightClick" /> </Window.InputBindings> <Grid Name="grid"> <Grid.CommandBindings> <CommandBinding Command="Close" Executed="Close"/> </Grid.CommandBindings> </Grid> </Window>

• Why is WPFToolkit DataGrid so slow when binding?

- by Schneider
I have a very simple test application where I have two objects, each with a small collection of items. when I select an object I display its collection in a WPFToolkit DataGrid. The problem is there is a noticeable delay, such that if you press up/down keys to toggle selection between objects you can see it can't keep up. Why is the performance so bad? <Window x:Class="SlowGridBinding.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:Controls="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Windows.Controls;assembly=WPFToolkit" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525"> <StackPanel> <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding Shops}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="True"/> <Controls:DataGrid ItemsSource="{Binding Shops/Vegetables}" AutoGenerateColumns="True"/> </StackPanel> The DataContext is populated with some test classes filled with 50 items of random test data.

• Why isn't TextBox.Text in WPF animatable?

- by cplotts
Ok, I have just run into something that is really catching me off-guard. I was helping a fellow developer with a couple of unrelated questions and in his project he was animating text into some TextBlock(s). So, I went back to my desk and recreated the project (in order to answer his questions), but I accidentally used TextBox instead of TextBlock. My text wasn't animating at all! (A lot of help, I was!) Eventually, I figured out that his xaml was using TextBlock and mine was using TextBox. What is interesting, is that Blend wasn't creating key frames when I was using TextBox. So, I got it to work in Blend using TextBlock(s) and then modified the xaml by hand, converting the TextBlock(s) into TextBox(es). When I ran the project, I got the following error: InvalidOperationException: '(0)' Storyboard.TargetProperty path contains nonanimatable property 'Text'. Well, it seems as if Blend was smart enough to know that ... and not generate the key frames in the animation (it would just modify the value directly on the TextBox). +1 for Blend. So, the question became: why isn't TextBox.Text animatable? The usual answer is that the particular property you are animating isn't a DependencyProperty. But, this isn't the case, TextBox.Text is a DependencyProperty. So, now I am bewildered! Why can't you animate TextBox.Text? Let me include some xaml to illustrate the problem. The following xaml works ... but uses TextBlock(s). <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="TextBoxTextQuestion.MainWindow" x:Name="Window" Title="MainWindow" Width="640" Height="480" > <Window.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="animateTextStoryboard"> <StringAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="(TextBlock.Text)" Storyboard.TargetName="textControl"> <DiscreteStringKeyFrame KeyTime="0:0:1" Value="Goodbye"/> </StringAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> </Window.Resources> <Window.Triggers> <EventTrigger RoutedEvent="FrameworkElement.Loaded"> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource animateTextStoryboard}"/> </EventTrigger> </Window.Triggers> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"> <TextBlock x:Name="textControl" Text="Hello" FontFamily="Calibri" FontSize="32"/> <TextBlock Text="World!" Margin="0,25,0,0" FontFamily="Calibri" FontSize="32"/> </StackPanel> </Grid> </Window> The following xaml does not work and uses TextBox.Text: <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="TextBoxTextQuestion.MainWindow" x:Name="Window" Title="MainWindow" Width="640" Height="480" > <Window.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="animateTextStoryboard"> <StringAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="(TextBox.Text)" Storyboard.TargetName="textControl"> <DiscreteStringKeyFrame KeyTime="0:0:1" Value="Goodbye"/> </StringAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> </Window.Resources> <Window.Triggers> <EventTrigger RoutedEvent="FrameworkElement.Loaded"> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource animateTextStoryboard}"/> </EventTrigger> </Window.Triggers> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"> <TextBox x:Name="textControl" Text="Hello" FontFamily="Calibri" FontSize="32"/> <TextBox Text="World!" • NameClaimType in ClaimsIdentity from SAML

- by object88
I am attempting to understand the world of WIF in context of a WCF Data Service / REST / OData server. I have a hacked up version of SelfSTS that is running inside a unit test project. When the unit tests start, it kicks off a WCF service, which generates my SAML token. This is the SAML token being generated: <saml:Assertion MajorVersion="1" MinorVersion="1" ... > <saml:Conditions>...</saml:Conditions> <saml:AttributeStatement> <saml:Subject> <saml:NameIdentifier Format="EMAIL">4bd406bf-0cf0-4dc4-8e49-57336a479ad2</saml:NameIdentifier> <saml:SubjectConfirmation>...</saml:SubjectConfirmation> </saml:Subject> <saml:Attribute AttributeName="emailaddress" AttributeNamespace="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2005/05/identity/claims"> <saml:AttributeValue>[email protected]</saml:AttributeValue> </saml:Attribute> <saml:Attribute AttributeName="name" AttributeNamespace="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2005/05/identity/claims"> <saml:AttributeValue>bob</saml:AttributeValue> </saml:Attribute> </saml:AttributeStatement> <ds:Signature>...</ds:Signature> </saml:Assertion> (I know the Format of my NameIdentifier isn't really EMAIL, this is something I haven't gotten to cleaning up yet.) Inside my actual server, I put some code borrowed from Pablo Cabraro / Cibrax. This code seems to run A-OK, although I confess that I don't understand what's happening. I note that later in my code, when I need to check my identity, Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity is an instance of Microsoft.IdentityModel.Claims.ClaimsIdentity, which has a claim for all the attributes, plus a nameidentifier claim with the value in my NameIdentifier element in saml:Subject. It also has a property NameClaimType, which points to "http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2005/05/identity/claims/name". It would make more sense if NameClaimType mapped to nameidentifier, wouldn't it? How do I make that happen? Or am I expecting the wrong thing of the name claim? Thanks!

• Passing Certificate to Svcutil to generate proxy for OSB Service

- by webwires
We are wanting to implement Two-Way SSL security from WCF to OSB Services. We have successfully deployed the certificates so that when you browse to the service with IE you get the appropriate prompt for certificate and then it takes you immediately to the WSDL. But, when you attempt to generate a proxy using svcutil as defined in steps 8 and 9 in this MSDN article. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc949005.aspx I get the error: A reply message was received for operation 'Get' with action 'http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/09/transfer/Get'. However, your client code requires action 'http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/09/transfer/GetResponse'. The OSB services are set to use Soap 1.2 and the svcutil.exe.config we use is identicle to the article except for the findValue and x509FindType. Instead we used the FindByThumbprint pointing to the "My" store name and "CurrentUser" store location. The cert is there and is the same cert we select from the IE prompt.

• Using GridSplitter in a Xaml file for both Silverlight and WPF

- by Daniel Plaisted
I have a Xaml file which is used in a project which can be built for both Silverlight and WPF. I want to use the GridSplitter control. However, this control is in different Xaml namespaces on Silverlight and desktop WPF. In WPF, the namespace is: http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation On Silverlight, it is: http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation/sdk So if the xaml code is <GridSplitter/>, it will work on WPF but not Silverlight, and if the code is <sdk:GridSplitter/>, it will work on Silverlight but not WPF. Is there a way to write this so that it works on both platforms?
