  • SharePoint 2010 Single Page Apps without a Master Page

Create an HTML file, which links CSS and JavaScript Files 2. Create and ASPX Web Part Page, Include a Content Editor Web Part and link to the HTML page created above.   So basically once it was done, I could copy , paste,  and rename those 4 items: CC, JS, HTML. ASPX and using MVVM just change the Model, View, and View-Model in the JavaScript file.  in about 5 minutes, I could create a completely new web part with SharePoint data.  Styling would take a little longer.  Some issues that would crop up: 1.  Multiple(s) of these web parts would not work well together on the same page (context). 2.  To separate the Web parts and context I would create a separate page for each web part and link them to a tabs layout via a Page Viewer web part or I frame.  Easy to do and not a problem but a big load problem as these web part pages even with minimal master had huge footprints.  (master page and page web part zones)   I kept thinking of my experience with SharePoint 2013 and apps!  The JavaScript was loaded from within the app, why can’t we do that in 2010 and skip the master page and web part zones. I thought at first, just link to sp.js but that didn’t work so I searched the web and found a link which did not work at all in my environment but helped me create a solution that would kudos to (Will). <!DOCTYPE html> <%@ Page %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="SharePoint" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls" Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <%@ Import Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint" %> <html> <head> <link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../CSS/smoothness/jquery-ui-1.10.4.custom.min.css"> </head> <body > <form runat="server"> <!-- the following 5 js files are required to use CSOM --> <script src="/_layouts/1033/init.js" type="text/javascript" ></script> <script src="/_layouts/MicrosoftAjax.js" type="text/javascript" ></script> <script src="/_layouts/sp.core.js" type="text/javascript" ></script> <script src="/_layouts/sp.runtime.js" type="text/javascript" ></script> <script src="/_layouts/sp.js" type="text/javascript" ></script> <!-- include your app code --> <script src="../scripts/jquery-1.9.1.js" type="text/javascript" ></script> <script src="../Scripts/jquery-ui-1.10.3.custom.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="../scripts/App.js" type="text/javascript" ></script> <div ID="Wrapper"> </div> <SharePoint:FormDigest ID="FormDigest1" runat="server"></SharePoint:FormDigest> </form> </body> </html> Notice that I have the scripts loaded within the body! I discovered this by accident in trying to get Will’s solution to work, it made this work just like normal JCSOM from the master page.  I am sure there are other ways to do this, but I am a full time developer, so I’ll let someone else investigate the alternatives.  I have an example page showing an Announcements list as a Booklet which is a JQuery Plug-In.  Here is the page source notice the footprint is light.   <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../CSS/smoothness/jquery-ui-1.10.4.custom.min.css"> <link href="../CSS/jquery.booklet.latest.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen, projection, tv" /> <link href="../CSS/bookletannouncement.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen, projection, tv" /> </head> <body > <form name="ctl00" method="post" action="BookletAnnouncements2.aspx" onsubmit="javascript:return WebForm_OnSubmit();" id="ctl00"> <div> <input type="hidden" name="__REQUESTDIGEST" id="__REQUESTDIGEST" value="0x3384922A8349572E3D76DC68A3F7A0984CEC14CB9669817CCA584681B54417F7FDD579F940335DCEC95CFFAC78ADDD60420F7AA82F60A8BC1BB4B9B9A57F9309,06 Jun 2014 14:13:27 -0000" /> <input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="__VIEWSTATE" value="/wEPDwUBMGRk20t+bh/NWY1sZwphwb24pIxjUbo=" /> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ var g_presenceEnabled = true;var _fV4UI=true;var _spPageContextInfo = {webServerRelativeUrl: "\u002fsites\u002fDemo50\u002fTeamSite", webLanguage: 1033, currentLanguage: 1033, webUIVersion:4,pageListId:"{ee707b5f-e246-4246-9e55-8db11d09a8cb}",pageItemId:167,userId:1, alertsEnabled:false, siteServerRelativeUrl: "\u002fsites\u002fdemo50", allowSilverlightPrompt:'True'};//]]> </script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/_layouts/1033/init.js?rev=lEi61hsCxcBAfvfQNZA%2FsQ%3D%3D"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ function WebForm_OnSubmit() { UpdateFormDigest('\u002fsites\u002fDemo50\u002fTeamSite', 1440000); } $.each(DevVM.items, function (index) { $("#Accord").append(createAccordNode(DevVM.items[index].Title, DevVM.items[index].Body, " Expires: " + DevVM.items[index].Expires, DevVM.items[index].Url)); }); $("#Accord").booklet(); } function createAccordNode(title, body, expires, url) { return ( $("<div><h3>" + title + "</h3><p><span class='titlespan'><a href='" + url + "'>" + title + "</a></span><span class='dicussionspan'>" + body + "</span><span class='expiresspan'>" + expires + "</span></p></div>") ); } function onQueryFailed(sender, args) { alert('Request failed. ' + args.get_message() + '\n' + args.get_stackTrace()); } The idea behind this post is that this could be used to: 1.   Create landing pages that are very un-SharePoint like! 2.   Make lightweight pages that could be used in page viewer web part or I Frame. 3.  Utilize Deep Zoom Composer and Sea-Dragon/or Silver light I will be using this for much of my development work!

  • How to really master ASP.NET MVC?

    - by user1620696
Some years ago I've worked with web development just using PHP without focus on object orientation and so on. When I knew a little bit about it, and the benefits it brings, I've started moving to ASP.NET MVC. First, I've studied C# in the book Visual C# Step by Step. I've found it a good book for a beginner, and I could learn a lot of this new language with it. Now, when I've came to study ASP.NET MVC, I hadn't so much luck. I've studied on some books that explained MVC well and so on, but then started just saying: "do that, and now that, and then that", and I feel I couldn't really master ASP.NET MVC. I feel this, because when I was reading, I knew how to do the things the book taught, like implementing DI with Ninject and so on, but some time later, without looking at it for some time, I couldn't do it by myself. What I'm trying to say, is that usually I don't know where to start, how to do things in this framework and so on. How can I really master ASP.NET MVC? There is some book, some tutorial series, anything, that can really help with that? I'm pretty happy with the .NET framework, my problem isn't it, my only problem is working with the MVC framework, and applying the techniques from object orientation there. I don't know if this question is on-topic here, but I'm really just looking for some good references, to become better with this framework.

  • Quiz Master at Beyond Relational

    - by Vincent Maverick Durano
Last month a friend of mine invited me to join BeyondRelational.com and asked me to nominate myself as a .NET Quiz Master. In order to qualify I must submit an interesting question related to .NET and their .NET team will review the information and will select 31 quiz masters for the .NET quiz category. This seems insteresting to me so I go ahead and submit one entry. Luckily I was selected as one of the 31 Quiz Masters in the .NET category. I hope to be able to keep up the good work there for years to come. Big Thanks to Jacob Sebastian and his Team! And oh.. I didn't get a changce to blog about this last week but just to let you guys know that the .NET General Quiz just started last january 1st 2011. The quiz will be a series of 31 questions, managed by 31 .NET quiz masters. Each quiz master will ask one question and will moderate the discussion and answers and finally will identify the winner of each quiz. Each answer that is correct will get a certain score ranging from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest. The scores of all 31 questions will be added up to identify the final winner. So what are you waiting for? Sign-up and register now and get a changce to win some exciting prizes! Technorati Tags: Community

  • Master Page: Dynamically Adding Rows in ASP Table on Button Click event

    - by Vincent Maverick Durano
In my previous post here, I wrote an example that demonstrates how are we going to generate table rows dynamically using ASP Table on click of the Button control. Now based on some comments in my previous example and in the forums they wanted to implement it within Masterpage. Unfortunately the code in my previous example doesn't work in Masterpage for the following main reasons: The Table is dynamically added within the Form tag and so the TextBox control will not be generated correcty in the page. The data will not be retained on each and every postbacks because the SetPreviousData() method is looking for the Table element within the Page and not on the MasterPage. The Request.Form key value should be set correctly since all controls within the master page are prefixed with the naming containter ID to prevent duplicate ids on the final rendered HTML. For example the TextBox control with the ID of TextBoxRow will turn to ID to this ctl00$MainBody$TextBoxRow. In order for the previous example to work within Masterpage then we will have to correct those three main reasons above and this post will guide you how to correct it. Suppose we have this content page declaration below:   <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainHead" Runat="Server"> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainBody" Runat="Server"> <asp:PlaceHolder ID="PlaceHolder1" runat="server"> <asp:Button ID="BTNAdd" runat="server" Text="Add New Row" OnClick="BTNAdd_Click" /> </asp:PlaceHolder> </asp:Content> As you notice I've added a PlaceHolder control within the MainBody ContentPlaceHolder. This is because we are going to generate the Table in the PlaceHolder instead of generating it within the Form element. Now since issue #1 is already corrected then let's proceed to the code beind part. Here are the full code blocks below:     using System; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; public partial class DynamicControlDemo : System.Web.UI.Page { private int numOfRows = 1; protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { //Generate the Rows on Initial Load if (!Page.IsPostBack) { GenerateTable(numOfRows); } } protected void BTNAdd_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (ViewState["RowsCount"] != null) { numOfRows = Convert.ToInt32(ViewState["RowsCount"].ToString()); GenerateTable(numOfRows); } } private void SetPreviousData(int rowsCount, int colsCount) { Table table = (Table)this.Page.Master.FindControl("MainBody").FindControl("Table1"); // **** if (table != null) { for (int i = 0; i < rowsCount; i++) { for (int j = 0; j < colsCount; j++) { //Extracting the Dynamic Controls from the Table TextBox tb = (TextBox)table.Rows[i].Cells[j].FindControl("TextBoxRow_" + i + "Col_" + j); //Use Request object for getting the previous data of the dynamic textbox tb.Text = Request.Form["ctl00$MainBody$TextBoxRow_" + i + "Col_" + j];//***** } } } } private void GenerateTable(int rowsCount) { //Creat the Table and Add it to the Page Table table = new Table(); table.ID = "Table1"; PlaceHolder1.Controls.Add(table);//****** //The number of Columns to be generated const int colsCount = 3;//You can changed the value of 3 based on you requirements // Now iterate through the table and add your controls for (int i = 0; i < rowsCount; i++) { TableRow row = new TableRow(); for (int j = 0; j < colsCount; j++) { TableCell cell = new TableCell(); TextBox tb = new TextBox(); // Set a unique ID for each TextBox added tb.ID = "TextBoxRow_" + i + "Col_" + j; // Add the control to the TableCell cell.Controls.Add(tb); // Add the TableCell to the TableRow row.Cells.Add(cell); } // And finally, add the TableRow to the Table table.Rows.Add(row); } //Set Previous Data on PostBacks SetPreviousData(rowsCount, colsCount); //Sore the current Rows Count in ViewState rowsCount++; ViewState["RowsCount"] = rowsCount; } }   As you observed the code is pretty much similar to the previous example except for the highlighted lines above. That's it! I hope someone find this post usefu! Technorati Tags: Dynamic Controls,ASP.NET,C#,Master Page

  • User Story or User Stories for this specific requirement

    - by Maximus
I have to write a user story for a requirement that involves passing search filters to the same URI and retrieving corresponding results. I have 5 filters. I plan to write 5 different stories of type: As a URI user I can search by #filter1 so that I can retrieve results based on #filter1. And then a 6th story that involves searching one or more or all six filters in conjunction. Is this is a sensible route to take?

  • How do you measure the value of your software?

    - by Mike
Hi, One of the principles of agile is that you should measure working software: Working software is the primary measure of progress - 12 principles of Agile The thing is, while I can measure my software in terms of stories done, bugs squashed or the volume of defect reports decreasing, I'm stuck on how to measure the value of my software. If I use Mike Cohn as an example and his helping SalesForce.com deliver 500% more value to it's customers compared to the previous year* - how do I measure that increase? How do I measure where I am right now? Other metrics he uses are the number of features and the number of features per developer. This is something I could work out if my backlog was in good order and the stories were cut up by 'feature', but we're just starting out with Agile, so I need some way of working out what the value is we deliver now, then use a similar metric in say, six months, to see if we've increased our output. I've heard about measuring value of software by an uptick in revenue, or an increase in customer satisfaction (how would you measure that though?) but those increases could be attributed to anything in the company (sales, accounting, support) and not directly to the work my department is doing. So, how do you guys measure the value of your software and how did you start? Thanks, Mike *Succeeding With Agile - Mike Cohn

  • Puzzlepart Product Boxing Rocks

    - by madsn
I had a few main drivers for starting the Puzzlepart project in the first place. First; working with great people, secondly having fun at work following the team principles.Third; always challenge with new ways of work. One of the main concepts that has evolved in our team is the concept of "tangible". Anything and everything HAS to be tangible and touchable and we thrive for this in everything that we do. The past two days of workshopping is a great example of this. Andreas had experienced good...(read more)

  • Should you ever re-estimate user stories?

    - by f1dave
My current project is having a 'discussion' which is split down the middle- "this story is more complex than we originally thought, we should re-estimate" vs "you should never re-estimate as you only ever estimate up and never down". Can anyone shed some light on whether you ever should re-estimate? IMHO I'd imagine you could bring up an entirely new card for a new requirement or story, but going back and re-estimating on backlog items seems to skew the concept of relative sizing and will only ever 'inflate' your backlog.

  • SonicAgile 2.0 with a Real-Time Backlog and Kanban

    - by Stephen.Walther
I’m excited to announce the launch of SonicAgile 2.0 which is a free Agile Project Management tool.  You can start using it right now (for free) by visiting the following address: http://sonicagile.com/ What’s special about SonicAgile?  SonicAgile supports a real-time backlog and kanban. When you make changes to the backlog or kanban then those changes appear on every browser in real-time. For example, if multiple people open the Kanban in their browser, and you move a card on the backlog from the To Do column to the Done column then the card moves in every browser in real-time. This makes SonicAgile a great tool to use with distributed teams. SonicAgile has all of the features that you need in an Agile Project Management tool including: Real-time Backlog – Prioritize all of your stories using drag-and-drop. Real-time Kanban – Move stories from To Do, In Progress, to Done Burndown Charts – Track the progress of your team as your work burns down over time. Iterations – Group work into iterations (sprints). Tasks – Break long stories into tasks. Acceptance Criteria – Create a checklist of requirements for a story to be done. Agile Estimation – Estimate the amount of work required to complete a story using Points, Shirt Sizes, or Coffee Cup sizes. Time-Tracking – Track how long it takes to complete each story and task. Roadmap – Do release planning by creating epics and organizing the epics into releases. Discussions – Discuss each story or epic by email. Watch the following video for a quick 3 minute introduction: http://sonicagile.com/ Read the following guide for a more in-depth overview of the features included in SonicAgile: http://sonicagile.com/guide-agile-project-management-using-sonicagile/ I’d love to hear your feedback!  Let me know what you think by posting a comment.

  • How to write a user story specific to tasks in this case

    - by vignesh
We have planned to take up an user story say As a player I want to view the game map to know current standings of my team The sprint is for two weeks. We will be able to complete only HTML in two weeks time, this user story will take 4-6 weeks to be completed as we have a shortage of content designing resources. How can we change this user story so that HTML completion can be considered as a done for this user story and we need to take up the integration of this user story in the next sprint? Is it possible to create two different user stories, one for HTML and other for integration, testing, bug fixing etc?

  • How do I handle a user story that I complete, but with compromise and need to revisit?

    - by ProfK
I have just fulfilled (is that a good term?) two user stories out of a new project backlog I have just built. These are user registration and password reset, both requiring mail. I need to implement a substitute mail component because my initial choice, and a normally reliable one, wasn't working. Because I was focused on delivering the user stories, not debugging the mail component, I swapped it out to deliver working code at sprint end. Do I now log a new support issue for the mailer, or 're-insert' these stories into the backlog? If I do the latter, am I not introducing too much tech detail into user stories?

  • Backend devs put down by user stories

    - by Szili
I planned to slice in backend development into to the user stories vertically. But a backend guy on our team started to complain that this makes their work invisible. My answer was that at the sprint planning and review meetings we discuss backend tasks in front of stakeholders so it makes it visible, and maintaining a high quality during the project will result a slower startin pace than other teams, but we will have a stable velocity during the project. And velocity is highly visible to stakeholders. He still insist having stories like: "As a developer I need to have a domain layer so I can encapsulate business logic." How can I solve the issue before it pollutes the team? The root of the issue is that our management systematically consider backend work as invisible and call backed devs miners, or other pejorative terms.

  • What happens with project backlog if sprint due date is missed?

    - by nikita
Suppose that I have project backlog item with effort of 40 hours. My sprint is 40 hours (1 week) and I have one developer in team. So developer creates child task to pending backlog and estimates work to 40 hours. At the end of the sprint developer didn't succeed in resolving his task. Suppose that developer works only and only 40 hours per week. On the next week there would be new backlog items and new sprint. What should I do with backlog item and velocity graph? Obviously backlog item is not resolved on that sprint. Should I estimate the remaining work and subtract it from effort , so that now I see that our velocity is, say, 38hr per 40hr sprint?

  • Detail of acceptance criteria in user story

    - by Kai Kramhoeft
I have the following example for a user story with acceptance criteria. I would like to know if I am allowed to describe how the GUI must be changed to support the new feature. How much detail can acceptance criteria have? This is my example: User Story: As forum administrator I will connect persons in groups, so that people can get organized. Acceptance Criteria: The creation of a person group happens below a person group pool (person group pool is an object also visually available in the current software system) The creation happens with a context menu of the persongroup pool. Below the pool one can create new groups. A person group contains: person group-ID, description, remark May that be relevant an right acceptance criteria? Because I describe how you can create a new group by opening a context menu.

  • Reporting defects in Agile

    - by user3728779
I am working in sprint. At the end of sprint I need to send a defect report per sprint. Considering the below scenario please let me know your views. Two teams(A & B) are working at different locations in Sprint-2 and I am a tester from Team-A and report the defects for the items developed by Team-A in each sprint Question 1. I reported few defects in Sprint-2 for the functionality developed by Team-B in previous sprint. Do I have to consider this as observation or defect and report to Team-A? 2. I reported 5 defects of Sprint-2 for the functionality developed by team-A. All the defects are fixed and closed by me in the same sprint. Before the end of sprint I observed 2 defects got reopened for some reason. Now the defect count should be 5 or 7(5+2) should be considered for this sprint? Thanks Khan

  • Which features of user story management should an agile team look for?

    - by Sonja Dimitrijevic
In my research study, I need to identify the key features of user story management tools that can be used to support agile development. So far, I identified the following general groups of features: User role modeling and personas support, User stories and epics management, Acceptance testing support, High-level release planning, Low-level iteration planning, and Progress tracking. Each group contains some specific features, e.g., support for story points, writing of acceptance tests, etc. Which features of user story management should an agile team look for especially when switching from tangible tools (index cards, pin boards and big visible charts) to a software tool? Are some features more important than the others? Many thanks in advance!

  • How to make sprint planning fun

    - by Jacob Spire
Not only are our sprint planning meetings not fun, they're downright dreadful. The meetings are tedious, and boring, and take forever (a day, but it feels like a lot longer). The developers complain about it, and dread upcoming plannings. Our routine is pretty standard (user story inserted into sprint backlog by priority story is taken apart to tasks tasks are estimated in hours repeat), and I can't figure out what we're doing wrong. How can we make the meetings more enjoyable? ... Some more details, in response to requests for more information: Why are the backlog items not inserted and prioritized before sprint kickoff? User stories are indeed prioritized; we have no idea how long they'll take until we break them down into tasks! From the (excellent) answers here, I see that maybe we shouldn't estimate tasks at all, only the user stories. The reason we estimate tasks (and not stories) is because we've been getting story-estimates terribly wrong -- but I guess that's the subject for an altogether different question. Why are developers complaining? Meetings are long. Meetings are monotonous. Story after story, task after task, struggling (yes, struggling) to estimate how long it will take and what it involves. Estimating tasks makes user-story-estimation seem pointless. The longer the meeting, the less focus in the room. The less focused colleagues are, the longer the meeting takes. A recursive hate-spiral develops. We've considered splitting the meeting into two days in order to keep people focused, but the developers wouldn't hear of it. One day of planning is bad enough; now we'll have two?! Part of our problem is that we go into very small detail (in order to get more accurate estimations). But when we estimate roughly, we go way off the mark! To sum up the question: What are we doing wrong? What additional ways are there to make the meeting generally more enjoyable?

  • Follow the deadlines vs Do it right

    - by QuiteNothing
I have been given a huge task of migrating few functionalities from jQuery to AngularJS. I have been pretty good at Angular by now. But I want to dive deep and create futuristic, sound architecture. BAs are seating on my neck, wanting to get my tasks as quickly as possible. I prefer doing something once and right vs keeping on patching existing functionalities. And with this attitude, I always keep working more than necessary. Am I missing something? Am I having right approach or am just not convincing enough BAs my point. What's the best approach, in your opinion Thank You :)

  • Should the number of developers be considered when estimating a task?

    - by Ludwig Magnusson
I am pretty inexperienced with working in agile projects but I have tried it a few times and I always run into this problem when estimating a task. Do we bring into the estimate the number of developers that will work on the task? Let me explain: Task A is estimated to one time unit and developer 1 will work on it. Task B is also estimated to one time unit and developer 2 and 3 will work on it together. I.e. if developer 1 begins to work on task A at the same time developer 2 and 3 begins to work on task B they will all finish at the same time according to the estimate. Should the estimate for task B be twice of that for task A or the same? The problem as I see it is that when a task is received and estimated, it is not always possible to know how many people will work on it. And if you assumed that two developers would work on the task for one time unit but it turns out that only one developer will actually do it, this will not automatically mean that that developer will work on it for two time units. Is there any standard practice for this?

Currently I'm leading our agile team in an iteration manager role as well as doing my regular dev work. One of the difficulties I'm facing as an IM is tracking burn-down/burn-up; not because I can't produce graphs, but because there's multiple projects that this team is working on at one time. At present I have an excel workbook with sheets that contain a whole bunch of graphs, both at an overall team and by-project level. It's clunky and I spend more time tweaking formulas and double checking calculations than I'd really like. As such, I'm interested to know if anyone has used a tool that can effectively produce these sorts of reports, burn-downs, and predictions across multiple projects. I've seen http://www.pivotaltracker.com/ do some nice things, and of course there's JIRA/Greenhopper, but I'm not aware of those being used to track the progress of multiple projects within one team. If anyone's got an idea of some tools, or has faced a similar problem before, I'd love to hear from you.

  • Rewriting software using Agile methodologies

    - by Asier
Suppose you have to rewrite an entire application using Agile methodologies, how would you do it? I guess you could write a big bunch of user stories based in the behavior of your current system. And then implement them in small iterations. But this wouldn't mean that we have the requirements UP FRONT?? Also, when would you start releasing? Agile says we should release early and often, but it doesn't make much sense to release before the complete rewrite has been completed. Anybody has used Agile before to rewrite software? How did you do it?

  • How do I access a <form> that is not the master page <form>?

    - by VBCSharp
Winforms developer converting to web developer. I know the part about the Master Page having the tag, what is not clear is if I can or can not have another in one of my content pages. I have been seeing both answers doing searches. I see yes you can if only one has runat=server. The thing is I have a that contains several radio buttons on a web page that has a master page. I have a .js file that has a function if I send the name into it, it will loop thru the controls in the form to see which one is selected and return the desired date horizon(MTD, QTD, YTD, etc.). When I run this on a non master page web page it works fine. However, when I run on a web page that has a master page I can't seem to get to the element. I tried getElementByID, I tried looping through the page elements, etc. Maybe I am going about this incorrectly and I hope someone can straighten me out. Here is the code from my .js file that may help explain what I am trying to do a little better. var frmDateRanges = document.getElementById(formFieldName); var chosen; var len = frmDateRanges.DateRanges.length; for(i=0;i<len;i++) { if(frmDateRanges.DateRanges[i].checked) { chosen = frmDateRanges.DateRanges[i].value; } } where formFieldName is an arguement that is passed into the function and DateRanges is the name value given to the radio buttons. In the button I call this function I have: onclick ="FunctionCall('frmDateRanges')" FunctionCall is just for description purposes, 'frmDateRanges' is the name and id given to the form action="" Thanks for the help as I am stumped at this point. If there is a better way to do this please let me know that as well.

  • git | error: Unable to append to .git/logs/refs/remotes/origin/master: Permission denied [SOLVED]

    - by Corbin Tarrant
I am having a strange issue that I can't seem to resolve. Here is what happend: I had some log files in a github repository that I didn't want there. I found this script that removes files completely from git history like so: #!/bin/bash set -o errexit # Author: David Underhill # Script to permanently delete files/folders from your git repository. To use # it, cd to your repository's root and then run the script with a list of paths # you want to delete, e.g., git-delete-history path1 path2 if [ $# -eq 0 ]; then exit 0are still fi # make sure we're at the root of git repo if [ ! -d .git ]; then echo "Error: must run this script from the root of a git repository" exit 1 fi # remove all paths passed as arguments from the history of the repo files=$@ git filter-branch --index-filter "git rm -rf --cached --ignore-unmatch $files" HEAD # remove the temporary history git-filter-branch otherwise leaves behind for a long time rm -rf .git/refs/original/ && git reflog expire --all && git gc --aggressive --prune I, of course, made a backup first and then tried it. It seemed to work fine. I then did a git push -f and was greeted with the following messages: error: Unable to append to .git/logs/refs/remotes/origin/master: Permission denied error: Cannot update the ref 'refs/remotes/origin/master'. Everything seems to have pushed fine though, because the files seem to be gone from the GitHub repository, if I try and push again I get the same thing: error: Unable to append to .git/logs/refs/remotes/origin/master: Permission denied error: Cannot update the ref 'refs/remotes/origin/master'. Everything up-to-date EDIT $ sudo chgrp {user} .git/logs/refs/remotes/origin/master $ sudo chown {user} .git/logs/refs/remotes/origin/master $ git push Everything up-to-date Thanks! EDIT Uh Oh. Problem. I've been working on this project all night and just went to commit my changes: error: Unable to append to .git/logs/refs/heads/master: Permission denied fatal: cannot update HEAD ref So I: sudo chown {user} .git/logs/refs/heads/master sudo chgrp {user} .git/logs/refs/heads/master I try the commit again and I get: error: Unable to append to .git/logs/HEAD: Permission denied fatal: cannot update HEAD ref So I: sudo chown {user} .git/logs/HEAD sudo chgrp {user} .git/logs/HEAD And then I try the commit again: 16 files changed, 499 insertions(+), 284 deletions(-) create mode 100644 logs/DBerrors.xsl delete mode 100644 logs/emptyPHPerrors.php create mode 100644 logs/trimXMLerrors.php rewrite public/codeCore/Classes/php/DatabaseConnection.php (77%) create mode 100644 public/codeSite/php/init.php $ git push Counting objects: 49, done. Delta compression using up to 2 threads. Compressing objects: 100% (27/27), done. Writing objects: 100% (27/27), 7.72 KiB, done. Total 27 (delta 15), reused 0 (delta 0) To [email protected]:IAmCorbin/MooKit.git 59da24e..68b6397 master -> master Hooray. I jump on http://GitHub.com and check out the repository, and my latest commit is no where to be found. ::scratch head:: So I push again: Everything up-to-date Umm...it doesn't look like it. I've never had this issue before, could this be a problem with github? or did I mess something up with my git project? EDIT Nevermind, I did a simple: git push origin master and it pushed fine.

  • Geek City: Preparing for the SQL Server Master Exam

    - by Kalen Delaney
I was amazed at the results when I just did a search of SQLBlog, and realized no one had really blogged here about the changes to the Microsoft Certified Master (MCM) program. Greg Low described the MCM program when he decided to pursue the MCM at the end of 2008, but two years later, at the end of 2010, Microsoft completely changed the requirements. Microsoft published the new requirements here . The three week intensive course is no longer required, but that doesn't mean you can just buy an exam...(read more)
