  I have a simple class derived from a generic list of string as follows: [Serializable] [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRoot("TestItems")] public class TemplateRoleCollection : List<string> { } when I serialize this, I get the following XML: <TestItems> <string>cat</string> <string>dog</string> <string>wolf</string> </TestItems> Is there any way to override the xml element name which is used for serializing items in the collection? I would like the following xml to be produced: <TestItems> <TestItem>cat</TestItem> <TestItem>dog</TestItem> <TestItem>wolf</TestItem> </TestItems>

  Is there a way to make the DataContractSerializer serialize a [MessageContract] the same way it appears when transmitted over SOAP? I have a class that appears as follows on the wire for a WCF call: <TestRequest xmlns="http://webservices.test.com/ServiceTest/1.1"> <Name>Just Me</Name> </TestRequest> When serializing using the DCS, it looks like this: <TestRequest xmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" z:Id="1" xmlns:z="http://schemas.microsoft.com/2003/10/Serialization/" xmlns="http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/ServiceTest"> <_x003C_Name_x003E_k__BackingField z:Id="2">Just Me</_x003C_Name_x003E_k__BackingField> </TestRequest> I'm convinced this inconsistency is because my class is marked up as a message contract instead of a data contract: [MessageContract] [Serializable] public class TestRequest { [MessageBodyMember] public string Name { get; set; } } Is there a way to make the DCS serialize messages the same way WCF does when it creates a SOAP message?

• BizTalk external assembly namespace and static methods

  Is there some restriction in BizTalk 2006 R2 to accessing static methods in external assemblies when the assembly has a "." in the name ? I have the solution set-up with the BizTalk project "FooBar", and the external assembly project "FooBar.Helper" (strongly signed and GAC'ed) with a class "Demo" (public and serializable), which is referenced in the BizTalk project I can create a BizTalk variable of type "FooBar.Helper.Demo" and access an instance method fine, but an expression window the Intellisense shows the FooBar namespace, but if I dot it, I get the error "illegal dotted name" ??? However I can add another project, "ExtComp" with class "Test" and it's static methods are displayed in Intellisense !!! The only difference I can see is the first external assembly has the dot in it

• Java webservice does not return all struct array

  Hi I wrote a webservice which runs correctly. In the webservice, there is a class which contains other classes' arrays and the webservice returns this class's instance. for example public class cls1 implements Serializable{ cls2[] cls2Arr; cls3[] cls3Arr; } I fill this arrays (cls2Arr and cls3Arr) correctly in service side. When I read this arrays from client, I see only last item of arrays. I checked on the service side before the webservice returns, and the cls1 instance and everything else looked good. What can be a reason ? Thx

• Can I serialize a BitArray to XML?

  Hello I have a business class which I need to serialize to xml. It has a BitArray property. I have decorated it with [XmlAttribute] but the serialization is failing with To be XML serializable, types which inherit from ICollection must have an implementation of Add(System.Boolean) at all levels of their inheritance hierarchy. System.Collections.BitArray does not implement Add(System.Boolean). I am not sure whether its possible to serialize to xml? If not what would be an efficient means of serializing the BitArray Thanks for looking

  I saved a PublicKey instance in a file using ObjectOutputStream. This file is then stored inside a jar file which is then loaded by JBoss. I'm trying to read this file but it throws me an exception telling that it's not serializable. • Dirty Reads in Postgres

  I have a long running function that should be inserting new rows. How do I check the progress of this function? I was thinking dirty reads would work so I read http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.4/interactive/sql-set-transaction.html and came up with the following code and ran it in a new session: SET SESSION CHARACTERISTICS AS SERIALIZABLE; SELECT * FROM MyTable; Postgres gives me a syntax error. What am I doing wrong? If I do it right, will I see the inserted records while that long function is still running? Thanks

  I have following two domain classes in Grails 1.1.2: class A implements Serializable { MyEnumType myField Date fieldChanged void setMyField(MyEnumType val) { if (myField != null && myField != val) { myField = val fieldChanged = new Date() } } } class B extends A { List children void setMyField(MyEnumType val) { if (myField != null && myField != val) { myField = val fieldChanged = new Date() children.each { child -> child.myField = val } } } When I set B instance's myField, I get the setter into the cycle... myField = val line calls setter again instead of assiging the new value. Any hint how to override the setter correctly? Thanks

  In Python, I'd like to be able to create a function that behaves both as a class function and an instance method, but with the ability to change behaviors. The use case for this is for a set of serializable objects and types. As an example: >>> class Thing(object): #... >>> Thing.to_json() 'A' >>> Thing().to_json() 'B' I know that given the definition of classmethod() in funcobject.c in the Python source, this looks like it'd be simple with a C module.   Hi Everyone, This may seem like a very broad question, but any help is appreciated. I have a client/server solution written in java which uses the Cajo project (which uses RMI). I just want to try and make my solution as secure as possible, given the sensitive data that will be transferred between server and client. So far, my ideas are to make all my classes "final" as well as throw a "non-serializable" exception for all my classes in the server (except for the object bound in the RMI registry, and any objects that actually do need to be transferred of course). Can anyone think of any other ideas? I know that someone could write a malicious client - this isn't hard to do as you can find out the remote object's API using reflection. However is there anything I can do to protect a malicious client access classes/objects within the server that they are not supposed to access? Many Thanks

  I've created a custom clipboard because it's not possible to make my whole class map serializable - which is a requirement for the windows clipboard. However, I need to distinguish between users who are using my clipboard through a unique id. Basically, I want to be able identify a person who is sat at one PC with one or more copies of visual studio (or similar) open. How do I do that? ps: This is at design-time. pps: It's not critical that it should work between copies of visual studio. One copy would be fine, or even one design surface.

• Unit testing with serialization mock objects in C++

  Greetings, I'm fairly new to TDD and ran across a unit test that I'm not entirely sure how to address. Basically, I'm testing a couple of legacy class methods which read/write a binary stream to a file. The class functions take a serializable object as a parameter, which handles the actual reading/writing to the file. For testing this, I was thinking that I would need a serialization mock object that I would pass to this function. My initial thought was to have the mock object hold onto a (char*) which would dynamically allocate memory and memcpy the data. However, it seems like the mock object might be doing too much work, and might be beyond the scope of this particular test. Is my initial approach correct, or can anyone think of another way of correctly testing this? Thanks!

  Hi, i was trying to serialize an ArrayList which contacins custom objects. I`am serializing it in a servlet(server side), and deserialize at the client side. (using ObjectOutputStream,ObjectInputStream) it worked fine, when I work with ArrayList< String but when i tried it with ArrayList< MyObject i couldnt get any results in the client side, this is the exception: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: web.MyObject *ofcourse that i have done this: MyObject implements Serializable ... I want to send different types of data because user can choose from a variety of options that server can do for it. Any advices?

• AppFabric serialization problem.

  I am trying cache a class instance with AppFabric but it return class instance with empty members. The reason is DataContract Attribute. My class is marked with [Serializable] and [DataContract(Name = "TestClass", Namespace = "CustomNameSpace.TestClass")] attributes. Problem solving if I mark all properties with DataMember or remove DataContract attribute. But I do not want to remove DataContract attributte because of other serialization needs (such as json or something else) Or I do not want to add DataMember attribute to other classes.   This must be a FAQ, but I can’t find a duplicate question! There are lot of different attributes that control what the WinForm Designer does with properties on a custom control, I am never clear on the one I should use in this case. I am looking for: Designer does not show property in grid Designer does not read value of property Designer does not set property to default value E.g. Designer behaves as if the property was not there. Designer does not complain if it has already done one of the above before the attributes were added (hard!) Background. The code that is giving me the problem is: this.eventListControl.FilterSets = ((SystList<FilterSet>)(resources.GetObject("eventListControl.FilterSets"))); The FilterSets property should never have been touched by the winforms designer; it is now not Serializable and MsDev falls over every time a form that used the eventListControl is changed!

• Is there a way to use a dictionary or xml in the Application Settings?

  I have to store a complex type in the application settings. I thought that storing it as XML would work best. The problem is I don't know how store XML. I prefer to store it as a managed XML rather than using just a string of raw XML having to parse it on each access. I managed to set the Type column of the setting to XDocument, but I was unable to set its value. Is there a way to use XDocument or XML in application settings? Update I found a way, simply by editing the .settings file with the xml editor. I changed it to a custom serializable dictionary, but I get the following error when I try to access the setting-property (I set it to a serialized representation of the default value). The property 'Setting' could not be created from it's default value. Error message: There is an error in XML document (1, 41). Any ideas will be appreciated.
