• Find "secret" port number

  this may be kind of an odd question. My friend has challenged me. So somehow, he change the "port" of his site to 31337. If you just go to domain.com, you get redirected to google, to access the real site you go to domain.com:31337. He is going to change it again and he is challenging me to find out which port it is. Is this possible without guessing? Hopefully someone can help! Thanks. Oh, and is this the right stack exchange site to post this on...

• Using another domain with Google App Engine

  I'm trying to change my google app engine domain (domain.appspot.com) to the domain I bought from 1&1.com (mydomain.com). I went into the google app engine settings and added the domain. After making a Google Apps account, I was asked to verify my domain. The directions say that 1&1 doesn't allow me to create TXT records, so I can't use that method for verification. Their alternative is to upload an HTML file to my server, but I didn't buy hosting with my domain, I just bought the domain. My files are on domain.appspot.com. How can I make mydomain.com point to domain.appspot.com? I've added the ns1.googleghs.com as my nameservers in my 1&1 DNS settings, but I still can't verify my domain with Google Apps.

  This question already has an answer here: Will having multiple domains improve my seo? 7 answers I'm running a website for a global company, and although we rank first in search engine results here in Ireland, a search done from other countries doesn't rank us as highly. If I register the domain at other top level domain names (eg. example.co.uk, example.nor etc.) and then just mirror the .com site to those other domains, will I be penalised by search engines for having duplicate content? Has anyone else faced a similar problem and found a way to capture the global search engine? Thanks.

Question: Is IPN reliable enough that there's no need to control the subscription thru cron myself? • Blogger Dynamic template sometimes broken

  In all browsers (IE, Chrome, etc.) in my office and in all Blogger blogs using the dynamic template, I'm having this strange problem: No menu on the right side (except for the Subscribe button - other buttons are missing) plus no layout selection bar (top row). This problem is occasional, not happening reliably; any ideas? Update: whenever I get the menu problem with dynamic templates, I also seem to get a broken page (in Chrome, IE, etc) with simple templates - see second screenshot. Does anyone having this issue?

• google analytics - real-time user stats vs audience overview user stats

  When looking at the real-time analytics reporting for our app, it shows around 150-180 users, say around 10AM (our peak usage time). When I look at the Audience Overview report for the same day (hourly breakdown), the number of users shown for the 10AM hour is over 1000. I'm sure this has to do with some sort of aggregation, but I would like to know more about how these two numbers are calculated in order to understand it.

• Pagination and duplicate content

  I have an archive page that displays the number of articles published. Because there were so many, I ran a pagination script: for 127.0.0.1/archive/2/?p=x&pp=y where p is the page number and pp is number of articles to display per page. The pagination looks like this: Prev 1 2 3 4 ... 12 NEXT with each item linking to p like <a href="?p=x">x</a>. I also have the items per page setter: 25 | 50 | 100 (<a href="?pp=y">y</a>). Now I have a PHP script that fixes pp into a session variable. But I am worried about duplicate content (since incrementing pp values will be inclusive) and also content not getting indexed because its not in the pagination link. so in the example above, pages 5-11 will not be indexed. Any ideas on how to fix this?

• Google Webmaster Tools shows invalid data

  Webmaster Tools shows 1 URL error (not found page). The report says that 5 pages are linking to a page (let's call it x) that does not exist (and because it doesn't exists it returns a soft 404). HOWEVER, I look in those 5 pages (in the source code) and none is linking to the x page. It is like Google sees an old page that was indeed pointing to x. What is the problem? How do I know if Google cached an old version for those 5 pages?

The pages are indexed by google and have the following structure http://mypage.com/myfolder/page.apsx The new structure is http://mypage.com/page.aspx Now all urls that google knows are wrong. How can I tell google to reindex and that the structure has changed? Internally I redirect in ASP.NET when the url contains the myfolder by I want google to update the urls.

  I am using Joomla and want to implement a subscription based ecommerce solution. I started using VirtueMart and noticed its shortcomings regarding subscription based recurring items. Turns out Virtuemart can take its own plugins and I found something called SimSu which I don't want to pay for. I feel like I have taken a nuke to a knife fight, as I only need one or two subscription based products on this site. They will be recurring payments. Is anyone familiar with a solution for this issue?

• Help Desk Software with user groups and temporary ban function?

  Does anyone know any Help Desk Software which allow you to create user groups / to mark/categorize specific users in some way / and to to ban specific users/e-mails (not user groups) for a specific period of time? Kayako? OTRS? simpledesk?... Kayako looks to be very functional but not sure if it has this option. zendesk is also very functional but a SaaS service not a downloadable software. Since the functions that I am saying are very common in forum software, maybe simpledesk could do it since it is based in SMF. Any ideas?

  This might be a question for ServerFault, and f it wasn't for the Plesk aspect I would ask it there to start with, so if it's better suited for over there let me know and I'll move it. I'm working on a dedicated server set up as a reseller account with Plesk to manage the domains and server configuration, and i need to add a directory to the local open_basedir configuration for a specific vhost. Given Plesk's normal methodology, I expected to be able to go to /var/www/vhost/{%DOMAINNAME%}/conf and modify vhost.conf and place a new value there, as I have successfully done with other configuration settings for this domain (turning safe_mode off, for instance). When I do so, however, the new setting doesn't take (per phpinfo();). If I edit httpd.conf (which the plesk configuration specifically says not to do in the notes at the top of httpd.conf) the setting takes. Is there something specific about the open_basdir setting that makes it not configurable in vhost.conf? How much trouble am I letting myself in for by editing the vhost-specific httpd.conf (I imagine is someone makes changes in the plesk web interface it might be overwritten, but what other risk is there)? • WHMCS Fatal error: Out of memory while View Invoice PDF

  I can log into WHMCS & can access everything I should be able to access, but if i try to click View PDF Invoice, the following error will occur, Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 67633152) (tried to allocate 76 bytes) in /home/xxxx/public_html/whmcs/includes/classes/class.tcpdf.php on line 8419 I have already set the allocated Memory limit to 256MB, but the error still occurs. At that time of the error, the process memory is exceeding the allocation I set. • Pointing domain away from google

  I've already asked this question on google apps support, didnt fet an answer yet, and I am in a bit of a hurry. Need to have that website up by monday. Question: We have a domain registered at 101domain, we used a domain just for google apps, for email, and some services, and domain was never used for website. Now we pointed domain to the local hosting service, set everything like it should be, and pointed back to google from hosting service for gmail and gmail works perfectly. Problem is that we tried to set up a website at hosting service but domain still points to google apps login. Everything looks like it should, we recently bought 2 more domains that are set up the same (we use google apps on them too), the only difference tha I can think of is that we didn't use for apps first. Could this be because CNAME lags behind DNS server change?

• Should I index my mobile duplicate of my desktop website on google?

  I have a duplicate of http://he.thenamestork.com with the url http://he.thenamestork.com/mobile - all files are duplicated while the mobile version has a slightly different content. Notice that when I write 'mobile' I only mean regular HTML4 with smartphone friendly CSS. I have a series of redirects (using .htaccess) that allows smartphone users land directly on the mobile versions. But I wonder, shound I index the mobile version as well so those users will be able to get direct, faster links? And what is the proper way of doing that without causing problem in google search? I guess I'm asking if there's a way to get google display regular urls for desktop users and ../mobile/.. urls for smartphone users, and if it is smart SEOwise.

• What Should I Do? [closed]

  What is a reasonable goal in terms of traffic for my Flex 3 site: www.brainpinata.com Since I began a couple of months ago, I've gotten roughly 5500 ad views and 280 ad clicks. And the ad revenue is a whopping $4.80. (I don't use Google Adsense). I advertise my site using Google Adwords to try to build traffic. My budget is $10/day. What should I do? a) Push the marketing. Add a blog. Try to get backlinks, contact blogs, start a Facebook page, tweet, etc. b) Google is only indexing the static content in the SWF. The questions/answers are pulled from a mySQL database. So, Google doesn't index 99% of the content. Should I re-do the site in HTML/Javascript and hard-code the questions for each puzzle? (This would be a challenge as I don't know javascript worth squat.) Or should I hard-code the questions in XML and put them in the Flex app? If I put the questions in an XML file it's roughly 500 KB. Other ideas? c) Should I switch ad networks? (I currently get about 100 visitors a day). My ad network pays so little that if I were to make even $500/month, I would need 550,000 ad views/month, which seems impossible. If I go ahead and switch ad networks, I need to find one that allows iFrames as I've got a Flex website. Which ad networks permit their ads to be shown in iFrames? d) Should I cut and run? I put a lot of work into this project and it would really stink to get nothing out of it. I'm looking for some good advice. Looking forward to your suggestions. Thank you. -Laxmidi

• Business not showing up on right hand side of google search

  The business I work has currently has a verified business Google+ page and in the past this page has shown up as a thumbnail during Google searches. The thumbnail brings up basic information such as our picture and operating hours etc. However, since verifying the business page, the thumbnail overview of our business does not seem to show up anymore. I have tried Google searching our business on several computers and it still just brings up the normal search results. Is there a setting I need to activate in order for the thumbnail to appear?   I just took over the webmaster position in my organization, and I'm trying to set up a development environment separate from the production environment. The two environments are hosted with different companies, both on shared hosting plans. Right now, production is at domain.com and development is at domain2.com What I want is to direct my development team to dev.domain.com More importantly, I don't want the URL to change from dev.domain.com back to domain2.com, but I also be responsive to page changes. For example, if my dev team navigates from dev.domain.com to a page (called "page"), I'd like the URL to show as dev.domain.com/page Is this possible, or am I just dreaming?

The page is a listing of blog posts for a category. I thought this was the correct way to describe a post in HTML5.

• .com.au backordered domain: Do I have to return it if the original owner asks for it?

  I was contacted by the original owner of a domain to give him the domain that I backordered a few weeks ago. The domain was abandoned for about 2 months before I bought it to eliminate the competition of my client but now I am faced with a threat that he will take this matter to court and AUDA (.au domain administration limited).
