• Transparent control over WM Player ActiveX component in .NET

  I have a Windows media player activex component in my Form. On top of this WM player i have a picturebox with background color set to transparent. When i set an image for this picturebox , thought the image contains transparent areas it is displayed as black when the picturebox is above the WM player component. Where as if i place the PictureBox somewhere else in the form. The transparent area are rendered properly. So is there anyway that i can place a transparent image on top of a WM Player component. (hmm something like watermark may be). I want this picture to be displayed with may be 50% opacity when the video is playing in WM player control. Will GDI+ be of any use in this case?

• Scoping two models on approved

  I have three models (Book,Snippet,User) and I'd like to create a scope for where(:approved = true) I'm doing this so I can use the merit gem to define ranking based on count of approved. I'm thinking that writing this as a scope might be to complex but I don't know as I've just started leaning scopes. I've currently got this in my Book & Snippet Model: scope :approved, -> { where(approved: true) } I've playing around with this in my user model but I don't think it's correct: scope :approved, joins(:books && :snippets) Could anyone help start me off or give me some suggestions on what to read?

• iPhone SKD make the iPod controller appear

  Hi all, It's been a while I'm consulting stackoverflow, but this time I didn't find any answer :( My question is quite simple :) On an iPhone/iPod touch, play music. Double tap the home button while the music is playing. You will see appear a popup with the play/pause/next/previous buttons and a volume control. Do you know if it's possible to make this popup appear programmatically ? I mean, I would like to add a button in my app that will display the popup, avoiding the user to double tap the home button (most of them doesn't know this shortcut). Thank you in advance !

• How to restore a hidden loadable kernel module from /sys/module and dealing with restoring holders_dir?

  I'm playing with kernel module hiding on Linux Kernel 3.x. I try to hide and recover the module from /sys/module. Everything works fine on Kernel Version 3.0 and 3.2.6, I can load and unload the module and hide and unhide it. When I'm unloading the module on kernel 3.6.6 I get the following error: rmmod: ERROR: could not open '/sys/module/xxx/holders': No such file or directory rmmod: ERROR: Module xxx is in use Has anybody an idea how I could restore of the module so that I am able to unload it without errors? • How to protect against GHC7 compiled programs taking all memory?

  When playing with various algorithms in Haskell it often happens to me that I create a program with a memory leak, as it often happens with lazy evaluation. The program taking all the memory isn't really fun, I often have difficulty killing it if I realize it too late. When using GHC6 I simply had export GHCRTS='-M384m' in my .bashrc. But in GHC7 they added a security measure that unless a program is compiled with -rtsopts, it simply fails when it is given any RTS option either on a command line argument or in GHCRTS. Unfortunately, almost no Haskell programs are compiled with this flag, so setting this variable makes everything to fail (as I discovered in After upgrading to GHC7, all programs suddenly fail saying "Most RTS options are disabled. Link with -rtsopts to enable them."). Any ideas how to make any use of GHCRTS with GHC7, or another convenient way how to prevent my programs taking all memory?

  I've started to play with CRM Dynamics yesterday so this question should be seen as a very basic one. I've been coding for many years but CRM D is news to me. Apparently, one is supposed to be able to enter JavaScript code to customize the behavior of the application. I've understood that there's an API for that and that touching DOM directly or playing with jQuery is a no-no. Question: Where is the JS-code supposed to be entered? I've gone through all the menus but as far I can see, there's no spot where I could plug-in my custom code. E.g.: Where do I get to define a validation for the last name of a contact currently being defined?

• FLV video not running in browser with no error in ASP.Net

  I am trying to deploy my ASP.NET Application which is currently running on Windows Server 2003 32bit and IIS6 to a new Server running Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS7. My application uses ASP.NET version 4.0 and is working fine on 2003 machine. My problem is: I have deployed the application and it is working fine except that the .flv video is not playing in browser I have added all required mime settings but still no luck when i try to run the video i don't get any error just a blank screen showing no video. Same configuration is working on previous machine and the new server is also able to play the video when run from the earlier machine. Please if you have any solution help me out.

  I'm playing with Python and ctypes and I can't figure out how to resolve this problem. I call to a C function which fills a raw binary data. • Address of array vs. address of array[0] - C language

  My question is why does the address of an array differ from the address of its first position? I'm trying to write my own malloc, but to start out I'm just allocating a chunk of memory and playing around with the addresses. My code looks roughly like this: #define BUFF_SIZE 1024 static char *mallocbuff; int main(){ mallocbuff = malloc(BUFF_SIZE); printf("The address of mallocbuff is %d\n", &mallocbuff); printf("The address of mallocbuff[0] is %d\n", &mallocbuff[0]); } &mallocbuff is the same address every time I run it. &mallocbuff[0] is some random address every time. I was expecting the addresses to match each other. Can anyone explain why this isn't the case?

• Confused by "let" in Clojure

  I just started playing with Clojure, and I wrote a small script to help me understand some of the functions. It begins like this: (def *exprs-to-test* [ "(filter #(< % 3) '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" "(remove #(< % 3) '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" "(distinct '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" ]) Then it goes through *exprs-to-test*, evaluates them all, and prints the output like this: (doseq [exstr *exprs-to-test*] (do (println "===" (first (read-string exstr)) "=========================") (println "Code: " exstr) (println "Eval: " (eval (read-string exstr))) ) ) The above code is all working fine. However, (read-string exstr) is repeated so I tried to use let to eliminate the repetition like so: (doseq [exstr *exprs-to-test*] (let [ex (read-string exstr)] ( (do (println "===" (first ex) "=========================") (println "Code: " exstr) (println "Eval: " (eval ex)) ) )) ) But this works once for the first item in *exprs-to-test*, then crashes with a NullPointerException. Why is the addition of let causing the crash?

• MovieClip changes Stage alignment

  I am loading a MovieClip using MovieClipLoader. When the MovieClip starts playing, it changes the alignment of my stage to LT, which incorrectly repositions all the other objects on my stage. Is there anyway for me to: Prevent the MovieClip from changing the alignment of my stage? Adding an event handler to an appropriate event, so that I can reset the stage alignment when it gets changed? I have already tried resetting the stage alignment on the onLoadInit event of MovieClipLoader and the onEnterFrame event of MovieClip, but both seem to reset the alignment too soon.

  I'm playing with git in isolation on my own machine, and even like that I find it difficult to maintain a mental model of all my branches and commits. I know I can do a git log to see the commit history from where I am, but is there a way to see the entire branch topography, something like these ascii maps that seem to be used everywhere for explaining branches? .-A---M---N---O---P / / / / / I B C D E \ / / / / `-------------' It just feels like someone coming along and trying to pick up my repository would have difficulty working out exactly what was going on. • How would I go about implementing a stopwatch with different speeds?

  Ideally I would like to have something similar to the Stopwatch class but with an extra property called Speed which would determine how quickly the timer changes minutes. I am not quite sure how I would go about implementing this. Edit Since people don't quite seem to understand why I want to do this. Consider playing a soccer game, or any sport game. The halfs are measured in minutes, but the time-frame in which the game is played is significantly lower i.e. a 45 minute half is played in about 2.5 minutes.

• In DirectShow, what determines the graph source?

  Hi all, I have two machines - A (XP SP2) and B (Win7). Machine B has trouble playing OGM files - enabling subtitles causes a crash in the player. Investigation shows that the DirectShow graphs are quite different. On A, the source is a file source, which produces a stream of subtype OGG, which goes into "Ogg Splitter". On B, the source is an instance of Haali Media Splitter, which produces video, audio, and subtitles as separate streams. Machine A has Haali splitter installed as well, but it is not invoked somehow. Question - what determines the source filter? Is there a file type to preferred source mapping, or does the system load and ask all suitable filters if they would take this file? On machine A, the merit of Haali splitter is higher than that of File source, so it's probably not about relative merits.

  I trying to create an animation with JQuery that scrolls 1 word in a sentence. For example, I am a nice sententce of text with a MAGIC word in it OTHER HIDDEN WORDS After a second or so, MAGIC would move upwards and OTHER would scroll into view. I've tried playing with a few carousel plugins but I can't seem to get the effect working. Some seem to have so many nested divs that they refuse to display inline, others have issues when one word is longer than another. Does anybody know of a plugin that could make this possible? Is this even possible?

• Is it possible to set different select2 parameters at different times?

  From playing around I can see that this code $("#Selected3").select2({ minimumInputLength: 3 }); $("#Selected3").select2({ placeholder: "Show a placeholder" }); will show me the placeholder but remove the minimumInputLength parameters value. Does anyone know a way please that this example could be modified so that the placeholder will be added without losing the minimum..Length value. Any answers will need to allow for the possibility of the statements being in separate files, i.e. one on the page and another in a referenced .js file. I am aware that this would be much easier if I set all the parameters at once, e.g. $("#Selected3").select2({ minimumInputLength: 3, placeholder: "Show a placeholder" }); but I am working within a framework which won't currently allow that. • SoundManager + FFMPEG causing loud popping sound when streaming MP3s?

  Hi there, I built an application that plays both uploaded original mp3 files, and copies that have been converted with FFMPEG. I am finding that in some cases the FFMPEG files have a horrible popping/clicking/screeching sound for a split second at startup (hear below). But when I analyze the file in an audio editor there is nothing there, so it seems to be either the browser or soundManager reacting badly to something in that file. Wondering if there is any way I can fix this either by adjusting FFMPEG settings, soundManager settings, or..... Any suggestions? • Obj C - how to customise the interval between slides with IKSlideShow

  I'm very new to Objective-C and Cocoa but I've made a simple app which uses ImageKit to present a slideshow using the IKSlideShow class. However I've got a bit stuck with something I thought would be simple. I want to increase the time photos are displayed on screen when the slideshow is playing, but I can't see how to do it effectively. The IKSlideshowDatasource protocol lets you do stuff when "slideshowDidChangeCurrentIndex" which seems to be the best place to do this - however I've tried putting various delays in here such as: while ( functionShouldPause ) { [[NSRunLoop currentRunLoop] runUntilDate:[NSDate dateWithTimeIntervalSinceNow:20]]; functionShouldPause=NO; } However they prevent the user for manually moving on the slides, or leaving the slideshow. • Labview + National Instruments hardware or ???

  I'm in the processes of buying a new data acquisition system for my company to use for various projects. At first, it's primary purpose will be to monitor up to 20 thermocouples and control the temperature of a composites oven. However, I also plan on using it to monitor accelerometers, strain gauges, and to act as a signal generator. I probably won't be the only one to use it, but I have a good bit of programming experience with Atmel microcontrollers (C). I've used Labview before, but ~5 years ago. Labview would be good because it is easy to pick up on for both me and my coworkers. On the flip side, it's expensive. Right now I have a NI CompactDAQ system with 2 voltage and one thermocouple cards + Labview speced out and it's going to cost $5779! I'm going to try to get the same I/O capabilities with different NI hardware for less $ + labview to see if I can get it for less $. I'd like to see if anyone has any suggestions other than Labview for me. Thanks in advance!
