• Picture lens doesn't find anything

  I get Facebook results, but nothing from my computer. If I open a terminal and use 'locate' then I can find stuff, but the picture lens is empty. Note that my picture files are on an NTFS partition. I have made a link named 'Pictures' in my home folder that points to the location where the picture files are. Again, this works with the 'locate' command and it also works for the Music lens, which is also a link in my home folder. It also (kinda) works for the Video lens, though it only wants to find videos I have opened, which seems not consistent with the other lenses. (and also not very useful this way)

• Randomly generate directed graph on a grid

  I am trying to randomly generate a directed graph for the purpose of making a puzzle game similar to the ice sliding puzzles from Pokemon. This is essentially what I want to be able to randomly generate: http://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Crunching_the_numbers:_Graph_theory. I need to be able to limit the size of the graph in an x and y dimension. In the example given in the link, it would be restricted to an 8x4 grid. The problem I am running into is not randomly generating the graph, but randomly generating a graph, which I can properly map out in a 2d space, since I need something (like a rock) on the opposite side of a node, to make it visually make sense when you stop sliding. The problem with this is that sometimes the rock ends up in the path between two other nodes or possibly on another node itself, which causes the entire graph to become broken. After discussing the problem with a few people I know, we came to a couple of conclusions that may lead to a solution. Including the obstacles in the grid as part of the graph when constructing it. Start out with a fully filled grid and just draw a random path and delete out blocks that will make that path work. The problem then becomes figuring out which ones to delete to avoid introducing an additional, shorter path. We were also thinking a dynamic programming algorithm may be beneficial, though none of us are too skilled with creating dynamic programming algorithms from nothing. Any ideas or references about what this problem is officially called (if it's an official graph problem) would be most helpful. Here are some examples of what I have accomplished so far by just randomly placing blocks and generating the navigation graph from the chosen start/finish. The idea (as described in the previous link) is you start at the green S and want to get to the green F. You do this by moving up/down/left/right and you continue moving in the direction chosen until you hit a wall. In these pictures, grey is a wall, white is the floor, and the purple line is the minimum length from start to finish, and the black lines and grey dots represented possible paths. • Extremely slow transfer speed ubuntu -> Windows

  I have two laptops, One is running Ubuntu 12.04 (EXT4) the other is running Windows 7 (NTFS). I am copying over 40gb of data (one file) from the Ubuntu laptop to the Windows Laptop. (Browse the shared folder on Ubuntu using Windows copy/paste) But I am getting transfer speeds topping out at ~700kb/s Surely this is not right. I am transferring via wifi on both laptops. • Why do the interfaces show ipv6 address along with ipv4

  I have manually specified only ipv4 address for my interfaces. But all the interfaces automatically show inet6 address as well. Does it mean that ubuntu starts an ipv6 tunnel by default. If it does, isn't it dangerous, as ipv6 assigns public ips for all LAN clients. I only have a firewall on my NAT router, and my clients, who's interfaces show ipv6 address, do not have firewalls. • MAAS fails to Commission nodes

  I'm evaluating MaaS/Juju. I followed instructions in this link http://maas.ubuntu.com/docs1.5/install.html to setup MaaS. I'm running this in Oracle VirtualBox environment so Power options are not configured for the VMs. PXE booting VM works fine. The node shuts down itself and registers with MaaS in Declared state. Issues: a) When I Commission the VM (which is in the Declared state), first it gets IP-Config: no response after 60 secs - giving up errors. (See link below for a screenshot). b) Fails to mount the boot device and drops into initramfs prompt. • What kind of spam is this?

  I realize this is a pretty vague question, but I occasionally get spam messages through my contact form on a Drupal 6 site. The contact form does not have any anti-spam protection (i.e. math question). The messages I get are all very similar and just jumbled junk, like below, so I think they're all from the same source. Example: ylsaf0V bpsdfuxnhjjd, [url=http://wwgfsggzgyjyjm.com/]wwgrfgzrgsjyjm[/url], [link=http://xmgvyghcuufvb.com/]xmjyhvyjyfjirovb[/link], http://frgxmdghrgruhfc.com/ Anyway, I'm just wondering what the point of such a message is. All the links are dead, it's illegible, and it's not trying to sell me a product or get me to do anything, so I'm a bit perplexed. Is there any way to tell where they're coming from? And how concerned should I be? To be clear, I'm not asking how to avoid them, I realize just adding a simple math challenge or captcha would likely do the job.

• remove ssl from Google search results

  I am the webadmin of a WordPress site that serves up http pages statically. The problem is that some of the pages are shown as https in Google search results. For instance, if the search term "Example Press Kit" is entered the search result site link comes up as: https://example.com/presskit/ We don't have a site ssl certificate, so surfers are being bounced. I have tried everything. Most recently I created a new website in Google WebAdmin for the https version of our home page. Then, I added sitelinks that should have redirected site links intended for https://example.com/* to http://example.com/*. But it doesn't work! Google still shows a dead link to http://example.com/presskit. I didn't think dead links lasted very long on Google results, but there they are, two weeks later. Any ideas?

I've been told by marketing they don't want that website linking to the landing page. How can I prevent a specific website from linking to our domain? I don't want to block all websites from linking to it, just this specific one. Is there solution something to do with .htaccess? If so, please provide an example of doing this or a link to example because I've been unable to find one.

• Will adding q&a help my site's rankings, and if so, what are the implications of a sub-domain for q&a rather than a path on the site? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Subdomain versus subdirectory One of our web properties is doing quite well without any additional links being created on the site, and our link inventory is tightly managed - no user-generated links. To introduce a community aspect to the site, we want to implement a q&a forum. Once in place, new links will populate our link inventory with keywords that are not necessarily targeted to the site. With the q&a on a sub-domain, would that not affect the main site's rankings? What's the best approach for this?

• Complete deployment to AWS

  I'm trying to deploy a Java Application to AWS free tier. I need the following: RDS provider. Using MySQL client S3 service. This is required for the Lucene Index and image uploading SES service. I need to be able to send emails to new registered users. Namecheap is my domain provider. EC2 instance Elastic Beanstalk instance. I managed to create an EC2 instance, upload the WAR file and link it to the Namecheap domain. However I find it difficult to link the other instances to the current application. I find the documentation a little messy and I can't find the right way to do this. Can you provide a simple walk through to deployment for this use case? Thanks!

• Why is this 8 puzzle unsolvable?

  I am developing a 8 puzzle game. I went through the rules in this (see Detecting Unsolvable Puzzles) link, which tell you how to detect if an initial state is unsolvable. It says that if the number of inversions is odd, then the goal state cannot be reached and if even the goal state can be reached. Inversion is defined as Given a board, an inversion is any pair of blocks i and j where i < j but i appears after j when considering the board in row-major order (row 0, followed by row 1, and so forth). There is a 8-puzzle solver(applet) here. Choose 8-puzzle from the options. 1,0,3,2,4,5,6,7,8 and 7,0,2,8,5,3,6,4,1 As you can see both of them contain an even number of inversions. Still the program says that the puzzle is unsolvable. So is the Princeton link wrong?

• What standard superseded 830-1998?

  I have been looking into how to document software projects more formally, and I have learned about IEEE 830-1998: Recommended Practice for Software Requirements Specifications. However, as you can see from that link, it has been superseded. I know that 830-1998, and probably even 830-1993, are probably just fine for use. However, if nothing else, I would like to know what standard has superseded it. In this case it may not matter, but if other standards are superseded for more technical things, I think it would be a good idea to link somewhere what standard superseded another (if it is not another one in the same line (830, in this case)). It is worth mentioning that: The most recent standard when searching for "Software Requirements Specifications" or "Software Requirements" on the IEEE Standards Association website is 830-1993, The 2004 (current) version of SWEBOK references 830-1993 (paragraph 2.5), The document's Wikipedia article doesn't mention that the standard was superseded. TLDR: How do you find what standard superseded another, and which one took 830-1998's place?

• How to approach iOS web clip app "download"?

  We have our main site at: http://mysite.com which we don't want to alter. Then we have our web clip app at: http://mysite.com/app/ If someone visits the app URL in normal Safari then the Safari UI will still display. But if the user adds the app URL to their home screen, and then they tap that icon they will launch the app URL without the Safari UI as intended. My question is how do you go about getting the user to use the web clip app from their home screen when they start from mysite.com? What I'm thinking is that we have a link on mysite.com that points to mysite.com/app/. Then when they click that /app/ link they'll go to the app but it won't be in "app mode". Can I detect that it's not in app mode and display a message like "add this page to your home screen to use the app"? And then when they do visit in app mode obviously just let the app run.

• Chrome Countdown Extension [migrated]

  I have modified this countdown script to countdown to 4:20pm everyday. I have attempted to create a Google Chrome app that displays the countdown. The javascript is supposed replace a paragraph tag with id of "note" with the time left. It works when I load the page in chrome, but does not work when I load the extension. Example, if I put: <p id="note">asdf</a> I get just the text, "asdf", but when I open the html file I get the countdown. • Tips for managing internal and external links using WordPress [closed]

  So I'm looking for ways to optimize my site for user and search engine purposes. I've read several articles and looked at several different plugins. To say the least, I'm thoroughly confused as what are the best practices for managing internal and external links. Here is a list of some of my questions: Which internal links should be set to "nofollow"? Which external links should be set to "nofollow"? To what degree does actively managing links contribute to your PR? Should you use "nofollow" blindly on all links in comments? If a link to an external site is broken (404 or whatever), should you "nofollow" that link? What about "noindex"? As you can see, lots of questions. I'm hoping that you experienced webmasters can give a newb some best-practice advice.
