  • Preventing applications from performing run once tasks for multiple users

    In our environment we have several applications that are installed that have a need to run a little prompt the first time they run eg Media player, Google earth etc. The problem is we have many users on many different computers. And the computers have deepfreeze running on them which removes the users profile once the computer is restarted. So next time that user logs in they have to go through the whole thing of run once again. I have managed to prevent IE runonce using group policy and office run once from using the office customisation tool. Is there a way to make this happen for other applications. On windows xp we used to copy a user that has run all the apps and place their default profile into the default profile so that new users get that profile template. Now with windows 7 the process of copy profiles is not as easy. Is there an easy way to copy profiles in win 7 or is there a better way (eg modify reg or app data) to prevent apps from performing an initial run. Thanks

  • DPM 2010 PowerShell Script to Easily Restore Multiple Files

    I’ve got what I thought would be a simple task with Data Protection Manager 2010 that is turning out to be quite frustrating. I have a file server on one server and it is the only server in a protection group. This file server is the repository for a document management application which stores the files according to the data within a SQL database. Sometimes users inadvertently delete files from within our application and we need to restore them. We have all the information needed to restore the files to include the file name, the folder that the file was stored in and the exact date that the file was deleted. It is easy for me to restore the file from within the DPM console since we have a recovery point created every day, I simply go to the day before the delete, browse to the proper folder and restore the file. The problem is that using the DPM console, the cumbersome wizard requires about 20 mouse clicks to restore a single file and it takes 2-4 minutes to get through all the windows. This becomes very irritating when a client needs 100’s of files restored… it takes all day of redundant mouse clicks to restore the files. Therefore, I want to use a PowerShell script (and I’m a novice at PowerShell) to automate this process. I want to be able to create a script that I pass in a file name, a folder, a recovery point date (and a protection group/server name if needed) and simply have the file restored back to its original location with some sort of success/failure notification. I thought it was a simple basic task of a backup solution, but I am having a heck of a time finding the right code. I have seen the sample code at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/how-to-use-a-windows-powershell-script-to-recover-an-item-in-data-protection-manager.aspx that I have tried to follow, but it doesn’t accomplish what I really want to do (it’s too simplistic) and there are errors in the sample code. Therefore, I would like to get some help writing a script to restore these files. An example of the known values to restore the data are: DPM Server: BACKUP01 Protection Group: Document Repository Data Protected Server: FILER01 File Path: R:\DocumentRepository\ToBackup\ClientName\Repository\2010\07\24\filename.pdf Date Deleted: 8/2/2010 (last recovery point = 8/1/2010) Bonus Points: If you can help me not only create this script, but also show me how to automate by providing a text file with the above information that the PowerShell script loops through, or even better, is able to query our SQL server for the needed data, then I would be more than willing to pay for this development.

I wonder which addresses I should use for remote connections, Nginx settings etc.. 1) For example, in Nginx: Should I do server { listen 80; #What is the right line here: # server_name <WWW.NAME.COM> OR <ec2-.....compute-1.amazonaws.com> OR <MLB-....amazonaws.com>?; passenger_enabled on; ..... } 2) I connect servers behind ELB to remote Postgres database. In Postgres settings should I open the ELB address (MLB-...amazonws.com) or to individual EC2 IPs?

  • best way to quickly share multiple photos without permanently hosting them

    I find that I'm often asked to share lots of photos with someone, enough that uploading each one individually to them gets tedious when I would like to drag and drop the whole bunch. I could put them on photobucket, but some of them are semi-private; private enough that I don't want them to be easily found on image hosting sites. Are there any convenient ways of sharing these photos quickly but still being able to remove them from the inter-webs afterwards (without too much hassle)? I have found Yahoo Messenger complete version has great photo sharing options; but not everyone has it and I can't expect people to download it just to see some photos.

Interface A is shared by multiple objects. But the implementation of A is dependent on the template argument. Interface B is the seen by the outside world, and needs to be abstrakt. The reason I would like this is that it would allow me to define object C like this: Define the interface C inheriting from abstrakt A. Define the implementation of C using a different datatype for template A. I hope I'm clear. Is there any way to do this, or do I need to rethink my design?

  • Multiple subdomains, SSL on only one using port 80

    I am running a Apache2 server with three subdomains defined in separate files in /etc/apache2/sites-available I need ONE of those subdomains to be SSL-secured on port 80 for an application to work. Port 80 is required due to circumstances out of my control. The other subdomains are also on port 80. Now, when all subdomains are enabled in Apache the SSL-subdomain is NOT running SSL. If I disable the other subdomains SSL on the SSL-subdomain WORKS. Is there a way to fix this?

    I have a server and a few domains and two webpages. Can't figure out how to do the following: A.com -> root\ www.A.com -> root\ B.com -> root\ www.B.com -> root\ C.com -> root\folder1\ www.C.com -> root\folder1\ By the way. What is the 'and' logical operator used in htaccess? I found that 'or' is [OR] but [AND] doesn't seem to work. And what is the language htaccess is written in:)? UPDATE I made a mistake in the question though. Here's what I'd really want to do. DNS is set for the domain A.com to point to the root folder of the server. Now I would like to set the following redirections: Any domain other than C.com and other than D.com redirects (301) to www.A.com. A.com points to the root folder of the server anyway and that is set in DNS. Domain www.C.com points to the folder 'folder1' on the server. Can it be set in htaccess? Now domains C.com, www.D.com and D.com redirects to www.C.com.

  • Enable multiple audio output on Windows 7

    For Windows 7, 64 bit: I have a digital SPDIF output to my stereo, which controls speakers in other rooms. I also have a set of speakers connected to the regular audio jack at the computer. This allows me to send music to the kitchen while my child plays games on the computer. Works great. Except when I'm playing games and still want to listen to music. ;-D I know I can manually switch WMP to play through the speakers instead of SPDIF, but I was wondering if there's any way to enable simultaneous audio out in Windows 7? Virtual Audio Card is a non-starter because I'm running 64 bits and the VAC driver isn't signed.

  • Cumulative average using data from multiple rows in an excel table

    I am trying to calculate a cumulative average column on a table I'm making in excel. I use the totals row for the ending cumulative average, but I would like to add a column that gives a cumulative average for each row up to that point. So, if I have 3 rows I want each row to have a column giving the average up to that row and then the ending cumulative average in the totals row. Right now I can't figure this out because I'd be having to reference in a formula rows above and below the current row and I'm unsure about how to go about it because it's a table and not just cells. If it was just cells then I know how to do the formula and copy it down each row, but being that the formula I need depends on whether or not a new row in the table is added or not I keep thinking that my formula would be something like: (Completion rate row 1/n) where n is the number of rows up to that point, here row 1, then ((Completion rate row 1 + Completion rate row 2)/n) for row 2 so n=2, and so on for each new row added. Please advise.

    Hi, on a Windows 7 machine I need to switch back and forth two connections: the LAN connection (that works behind a proxy) and a wireless connection via a USB modem. This requires every time to activate / deactivate two connections in the manager and switch on / off the LAN settings. I don't think there is some way to keep two connections alive and specify which one to use based on the program, but my question is: is there a simple little utility that makes switching the connection one-click easy and fast?   • Consolidating Contacts from Multiple Services

    I'm looking for a good way to consolidate my many email/messenger contacts through my different accounts and services. I'd like to have all my contacts in one place, or have them sync between all my different services so they are the same everywhere. If possible, it should support Live Mail/Messenger, Google Contacts, and mobile syncing. Windows Live Mail is great for accessing all your mail accounts, but the contacts viewer only works for contacts affiliated with that Live account. I could go for the contacts folder built into Vista and above, but Live messenger doesn't access that so I would have a separate set of contacts for my IM account. Is there software, or an online service, that can do this? If this is asking to much, is there a proper solution to Live/Google Contacts bidirectional sync?

  • Port forwarding with multiple IP's

    I work at a company which uses a Fortigate 60 router, something I'm not really familiar with. Everything worked fine with it until a week ago when Comcast came in and replaced our modem. It seemed as though the process went smoothly - our connection came back up and our static IP remained the same. However, none of our port forwarding is working. What has me confused is the Comcast modem apparently has two IP addresses. The WAN2 interface for it in the Fortigate router is set to 10.1.10.10. However, all of our port forwarding settings are set to an external IP address of 10.1.10.50. Now this setup used to work fine, so something with the Comcast modem must have changed. How can I find out what? I tried setting a computer to a local IP of 10.1.10.15 so I could open up the web interface for the modem, but I can't even ping 10.1.10.10 when I do that. Any ideas?     I am looking for advice on the best way to share an iPhoto library between two users on the same Mac. I currently use this approach and it works fine most of the time. One issue I have is that I will get a permission error when syncing my iPod. This seems to happen if the other user has used iPhoto and I have not opened iPhoto before syncing the iPod. If I open iPhoto then sync the iPod again there is no error. How do others solve this problem?

    I have nginx setup to serve from /usr/share/nginx/html, and it does this fine. I also want to add it to serve from /home/user/public_html/map on the same domain.     Does anyone know of a current, active solution to encoding x264 videos across many computers (via the network) to increase encoding FPS? I heard in the past of the project x264farm; unfortunately, it is not actively developed anymore, and isn't compatible with newer x264 builds. I'm looking for a current solution, which is compatible with newer builds of x264. Just to note this, I'm a Windows user, so I'm only looking for Windows solutions (or at the very least, Linux). I've also seen the ELDER distributed encoder, but the quality varies depending on the settings you use - I'd prefer a solution similar to x264farm as noted above (the documentation outlines the encoding process), but one that is compatible with new(er) x264 builds, and is preferably actively developed. Final Edit: Unfortunately, the bounty for this question has expired, and I haven't found a decent solution for this. So if at any time someone finds a new, distributed encoding solution for x264 (or any h.264 coded, for that matter) - please answer this question! I'd love to discover an ideal method to make this work!

    Hi, I don't know even if I put the question right, but here's what I'd like to accomplish. I have avoided specifying exact Vmware virtualization product here because I'm not sure which one would be most suitable for the task at hand. I am developing an application that works in local network. This application has to run on several computers at the same time, and it's important to me, as a developer and tester, to see (literally) how it behaves at all times on all computers. Is there any way to connect to screens of virtual machines deployed on ESX, ESXi, Sever 2.0, or some other product, so that I can see something like grid of screens, say 4x4 or 6x4 or whatever number of scaled screens, at the same time? Ability to interact with screens directly from grid (by double-clicking a screen, for instance, and then getting full resolution screen) would be greatly appreciated, of course. I hope that someone understood what I meant here. :)

  • Collect and Backup Photos from Multiple Photographers

    I have a few photographers working under me ( well, not exactly under me, but I say it anyway just for illustration purpose), so they shoot a lot of photos, the problem is that they all store their photos on their hard disk, and I have no way to retrieve them unless I pass them an USB and ask them to fill it with their photos. Very labor intensive and inefficient! Is there any other better ( more automated) ways of doing this? For the fear of losing the resolution, I don't really favor a online-synch approach, because I think all the photos uploaded to any website will suffer a resolution loss, which is the last thing I want. Is there a better idea? Edit: Being artistic as they are, I can't guarantee that they all use PC and Windows; so the software must at least be able to run on Mac.

    OK, I have searched everywhere for this one. I have all the MSI's and packages I need to deploy .Net 3.5 SP1, and 2.0 and 3.0 (which are prerequisites for 3.5). I can't figure out how to install all of them at once via GPO. Basically, the computers on the network do NOT have any version of .Net installed, and I need them to be at 3.5 SP1. I know I can deploy each version via GPO, force reboot the client, then push the next one, force reboot, and so on. Is there a way to streamline install all 3 at once via GPO? Thanks

    Hi, I'm moving a web site from one server to another, and am realizing that I need to move the name servers for the domain as well (they are set to the current host, not to the registrar). So, knowing that email services will stop as soon as I switch the DNS, I'm scrambling to figure out how to archive and make available email data for folks that have mostly been using webmail for the past few years, and may not even have a computer on which to install a client to download the mail to.   • How to host multiple FLEX applications in IIS7

    Hello, I manually deploy a FLEX application to my web server (IIS 7). There are two virtual directories, 1.) Default 2.) myFlexApp1. myFlexApp1 is where my working FLEX application resides. I now need to deploy a different FLEX application (let's call it myFlexApp2) to the same web server. I set up a virtual directory for [myFlexApp2] and it complains about the "bindings" using port 80, which is already used by [myFlexApp1]. I have tried to give them separate host names in their bindings properties. For example, myFlexApp1.mydomain.com and myFlexApp2.mydomain.com. I can never get [myFlexApp2] to show from an external browser. I was able to get only one or the other to display, but never could run both. Here is what I need: myFlexApp1.mydomain.com -- myFlexApp1 calendar.mydomain.com -- myFlexApp2 test.mydomain.com -- myFlexApp1 where test.mydomain.com is the default URL. Is this possible? What am I doing wrong? I even tried to edit the hosts file in [C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc] but that didnt work either. How can I serve up two FLEX applications on IIS 7? It shouldn't be this hard!

Now we have: ppp0 serverip clientip1 ppp1 serverip clientip2 Want to have: l2tp_tun serverip serverip like with OpenVPN's tun interfaces and then to be able to push IP address and route to each client.
