  • Snow Leopard Compatible Drivers for Moschip MCS7720 USB-to-Serial Controller

    We are using Cables Unlimited USB-2925 USB-to-Dual-DB9 serial cables, which use the Moschip MCS7720 controller. We have downloaded the newest driver from http://www.moschip.com/mcs7720.php, but that driver was last updated in 2005. It does not seem to be working with Macs running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Does anyone know of any updates for this driver, or are there any ways to get the driver to work with Snow Leopard?

  • VSFTP Users and Directories

    I'm stuck. I've been working all day on trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong and I've hit wall after wall. What I'm trying to do: Setup FTP in such a way that certain users have access only to their directory, but higher level users have access to all directories. What I've Googled so far: I started with this, but that didn't do what I needed it to. I then used this, but once I created one user, it wouldn't let me create another one. Finally, I decided to follow this, but it wouldn't let me even create one user. I'm using Ubuntu 10. I can login to ftp as a root user and it takes me to the home directory. If I try to login using the user I created in the tutorial it says: Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Response: 220 (vsFTPd 2.2.2) Command: USER mathew Response: 331 Please specify the password. Command: PASS **** Response: 530 Login incorrect. Error: Critical error Error: Could not connect to server

  • Firefox extension to dinamically change superbar icon, similar to windows live messenger.

    With seven's new superbar, windows live messenger is now able to display your status on the bar's icon (and not on the system tray). So that got me thinking, maybe a firefox extension could do something similar. Therefore, here's my question to those who understand the workings and spinning wheels behind firefox extensions: could a firefox extension change the superbar icon to display some useful info? Does the current functionality support it? EDIT: I think my question is not really clear. I just want to know if it's theoritically possible for a firefox addon to change the superbar icon dinamically. For instance, windows live messenger changes the icon acording to your status, and gmail notifier plus changes the icon according to your unread messages count. I'm just wondering if firefox as it is right now supports an extension with that functionality. I know that no current extensions do it, and I'm not looking for a gmail notifier (that was just an example). thanks

  • Host name resolution on a home network

    Hi, I have several machines (both virtual and physical) in my internal network at home. Currently I have to connect via 1P addresses. The one main machine I connect with to all the other machines is running Windows Vista. Is there a way I can have some sort of DNS capability inside my network as well so I can refer to these machines with a name? I think this would be a common problem in most households (running a few computers) and I think there might be some simple solutions out there. This would be something most routers should support out of the box - but why don't they? Can anyone recommend some of these or an easy way to accomplish this?

  • Chinese IME - Shape toggle key won't save

    Hello everyone, Whenever I use Google IME or other IMEs like Sogou, I always encounter the same problem: half/full-width toggle. It's easy to set half-width by default in ime prefs, but toggle key is maintained by Windows, and here the fun begins. I use Win7 x64 Ultimate. Open the "Text services and input languages", go to "Advanced key settings". Here I see "Chinese (Simplified) IME - Shape Toggle" is set to "Shift+Space". When I try to change it, it appears as if it has changed, but if you click on "Apply" instead of "OK", or just open the window again, you can see it's still "Shift+Space". The same happens with disabling this toggle - disables and goes back on Apply or reopen. Not sure if it's a bug in Win7, so asking here. Please save me. :) Thanks!

  • Windows 7 Installation Folder: x86, x64 and another info

    I've downloaded a lot of Windows 7 versions (release candidates, trial, x64 and x86, etc). The bad part is that the downloaded iso files don't have clear names, so I cannot to know wich version is each file. I can check the files inside the iso using 7-Zip, by example. Then, reading the files and folders in the installation disk, how can I tell what Windows version and platform the installation refers to?

  • Can't copy files with 'additional permissions' to ext4 drive -- files that have @ after permissions,

    I am copying files from Snow Leopard to a mounted ext4 share via Samba, that's on a Fedora machine. Some files cannot be copied, and give this error: The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items. I've noticed that the files that can't be copied have an @ at the end of their permissions whien I do 'ls -l' in the command line. For example, I can copy the second file but not the first: -rwxrwxrwx@ 1 miles staff 1448 May 14 22:55 test.txt -rw-r--r-- 1 miles staff 136 Apr 5 17:06 image.psd.zip From what I've found, the @ means the file has 'additional properties'. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue so I can copy the files to the fileshare?? Thanks!

    I need a Linux distro that will give me the following: Run on a Raspberry Pi Can reliably survive power loss (like via a read-only filesystem) I've been able to hunt down some documentation on how to change a regular Linux distro over to read-only mode. I was hoping that there would be a distro already built that was designed to run in an embedded environment. I don't need many packages or drivers, just enough to have the Pi working with USB/Ethernet. I don't need any GUI interface or anything, this will just be running a custom service built in C. Does anyone know of a distro that would fit?

  • Linux Mint Wireless doesn't connect

    I'm having a great problem, I've installed Linux mint debian edition (LMDE), and following this tutorial http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/161 I did installed the network driver. The available connections appears to me, but when i try to connect to my connection at first time, I got this message: "(4) Did not receive a reply.   • Viewing a large-resolution VNC server through a small-resolution viewer in Ubuntu

    I have two Ubuntu computers, one with a large screen resolution (1920x1600) that is running default ubuntu vnc server. I have another computer that has a resolution of about 1200x1024 that I use to vnc into the server (I use the default ubuntu vnc viewer). Now everything works fine except there are annoying scrollbars in the viewer because the server's desktop resolution is so much higher than the viewer's. Is there a way to: 1) Scale the server's desktop down to the viewer's resolution. I know there will be a loss of image quality, but I am willing to try it out. This should be something like how windows media player or vlc scales down the window (and does some interpolation of pixels). 2) Automatically shrink the resolution of the server to the client's when I connect and scale the resolution back when I disconnect. This seems like a less attractive solution. 3) Any other solution that gurus out there use? I am sure someone has experienced this before (annoying scroll bars) so there must be a solution out there.   • Disabling mouse acceleration in Mac OS X

    I've been looking for a solution to the unusable mouse problem in Mac OS X for ages. I've tried a gazillion programs and fiddled with every setting there is or there can be added. So far, I haven't found a way to get linear mouse response in Mac OS X. At this point I'm seriously considering installing another operating system. But before I do that, or go hacking around OS binaries, maybe someone here has a solution? I want linear mouse response. I want high sensitivity. I like my touchpad acceleration and would like to keep it if possible. Any ideas? P.S. I've been at this for a long time, I'll probably have already tried the most popular answers. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.5 on a MacBook Pro. I don't use a particular brand of mouse. I'm not looking for any commercial solutions. I've tried: Mouse Acceleration Preferences Pane, the Snow Leopard version of which can get me close to a linear response, but at the cost of tracking speed (sensitivity).   • How can I have my Windows keymap on Mac?

    On Mac, to get a "{" for example, you have to press OPTION key plus 8 to get a curly brace. But on Windows it is ALT-GR plus 7. Another example: On Windows I can press CTRL and Backspace to remove one whole word. On Mac it is OPTION + Backspace. Is there a way I can remap these Mac-driven behavior to be more Windows-like? Because this is, as a very long Windows user, a big burden on me to have such a different keyboard layout. Edit: I'm using a german keyboard layout.

    What I want: A blog. I can tag posts, e.g. "A" or "B" or "all," and then you can either 1) click to only view posts tagged "A" or "all" or 2) even more ideally, I can set it so you automatically see posts tagged "A" or "all" when you log in. LaTeX support--I can type in LaTeX in the editor and it will show the math properly. No anonymous anything--must sign up and be logged in to view and comment Not as important, but convenient: Admin controls, e.g. detailed statistics, see who posts or views what when, control who posts / views, etc. Hosting: Ideally, if there's some software I can install on "my" own server, that would be ideal. But if we can't host it, it'd still be good to find some free (or maybe even paid) service elsewhere that would host the blog if it provided those tools. Any thoughts? I have no experience with this. Whenever I open a folder having images, image thumbnails appear for an instant and they are replaced by standard file icon. Argh... Points to note: Setting "Always show icon, never thumbnail" is unchecked Running Windows Aero theme (with transparency support) Have 4GB of RAM on my machine so memory is not a problem Please can you suggest a solution?

  • Intel P6100 CPU and Mobile Intel® HM55 Express Chipset

    I have an Asus K52F-BBR5 notebook that uses an Intel P6100 ( 2GHZ 15x multiplier) and HM55 Express Chipset. I'm looking to replace it's 3GB with 8GB. The Crucial database seems to indicate that a PC3-8500 CAS 7 and PC3-10666 CAS 9 will both work. I'm not up to date on the latest DDR3 nomencalature and I'm wondering which would provide better performance. The price difference is negligible. Drawing on past experiences from many many years ago I could make an argument for either based on sync/async bus speed arguments and CAS latency differences but the truth is I don't know enough about the HM55 chipset to know which would be the correct choice. Does anyone know the answer or point me to information that would help me make the choice? I'm pretty sure the performance difference will be somewhat negligible also but still I'd like to make the optimal choice.

    I have created a self-signed root certificate authority which if I install onto windows, linux, or even using the certificate store in firefox (windows/linux/macosx) will work perfectly with my terminating proxy. I have installed it into the system keychain and I have set the certificate to always trust. Within the chrome browser details it says "The certificate that Chrome received during this connection attempt is not formatted correctly, so Chrome cannot use it to protect your information. Error type: Malformed certificate" I used this code to create the certificate: openssl genrsa -des3 -passout pass:***** -out private/server.key 4096 openssl req -batch -passin pass:***** -new -x509 -nodes -sha1 -days 3600 -key private/server.key -out server.crt -config ../openssl.cnf If the issue is NOT that it is malformed (because it works everywhere else) then what else could it be? Am I installing it incorrectly? To be clear: Within the windows/linux OS, all browsers work perfectly. Within mac only firefox works if it uses its internal certificate store and not the keychain. It's the keychain method of importing a certificate that causes the issue. Thus, all browsers using the keychain will not work.   • Broke NetBeans file associations in Windows XP how do I get them back?

    I broke my file association in XP... Does anyone have any clue how to fix it? When I right click and select Open With... the application I want to use (NetBeans) to open the file is not on the list... and when I browse for it it won't let me select it (well it does but then won't add it to the list). The way I broke it is by installing 6.7 and then uninstalling 6.5.... since then my file associations have all been broken. I even tried uninstalling NetBeans and reinstalling it again... no luck... I even went as far as adding my own action called "OpenIt" to the file types I wanted... and that works... but only if the file/folders that contain in don't have any spaces... otherwise NetBeans throws a ".....does not exist, or is not a plain file". Thus nothing off the desktop can be opened... Does anyone know of how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

  • Outlook 2010 hung on updating outlook.com email account

    For the past week, through restarts of Outlook, and even a bounce of my machine, Outlook has been hung synchronizing my outlook.com account, after having moved messages from a different email inbox into the outlook.com inbox. The old account does not have the moved message any more (those synched-out correctly). The new account does not have the moved messages when acessing via the webui - ie, they are stuck in just Outlook. My problem? I need to reimage this laptop for a friend I need Outlook to finish syncing all those messages out to the hosted email How can I force this to happen?
