• DexFile.class error in eclipse

  I get this weird error everytime I debug in eclipse. It just seemed to appear one day and I was wondering if anyone else was running int the same problem. It does not affect my app in anyway visibly and does not cause a crash but it is an annoyance while debugging. • Haskell's type system treats a numerical value as function?

  After playing around with haskell a bit I stumbled over this function: Prelude Data.Maclaurin> :t ((+) . ($) . (+)) ((+) . ($) . (+)) :: (Num a) => a -> (a -> a) -> a -> a (Data.Maclaurin is exported by the package vector-space.) So it takes a Num, a function, another Num and ultimately returns a Num. What magic makes the following work? Prelude Data.Maclaurin> ((+) . ($) . (+)) 1 2 3 6 2 is obviously not a function (a-a) or did I miss out on something?

• JAXB: How to avoid repeated namespace definition for xmlns:xsi

  I have a JAXB setup where I use a @XmlJavaTypeAdapter to replace objects of type Person with objects of type PersonRef that only contains the person's UUID. This works perfectly fine. However, the generated XML redeclares the same namespace (xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance") every time it's used. While this is generally okay, it just doesn't feel right. How can I configure JAXB to declare xmlns:xsi at the very beginning of the document? Can I manually add namespace declarations to the root element? • Does HDC use alpha channel?

  Hello. Is there a way I can determine if an HDC uses alpha channel? I read Question 333559 and Question 685684, but their questions are about BITMAP. Apparently, some HDC has alpha channel (though they may not use it. Call this "Type 1") while others do not ("Type 2"). I know this by doing the following: Given a HDC, Create a compatible DC, and create a DIB section. Select the created HBITMAP into the compatible DC. BitBlt the source HDC to the compatible DC. Now examine the DIB section bits. For type 2 HDC, after every 3 bytes there is a byte always 0 (like 255 255 255 0); for type 1, these bytes are usualy 255 (like 250 240 230 255). To avoid false positive, I memset the bits to all 0x80 prior to the calls. Use GetDIBits directly on the source HDC, specify the HBITMAP as GetCurrentObject(hdc, OBJ_BITMAP). For both types of HDC, the 4th bytes are always 0. Change the DC bitmap by calling ExtTextOut. For type 2, ExtTextOut always set the 4th bytes to 0. For type 1, ExtTextOut always leave them untouched. I also noticed that the source HDC that are created by APIs (CreateCompatibleDC(), BeginPaint() ...) are always type 2. Type 1 HDC are from standard controls (like menu text). Even the HDC I CreateCompatibleDC from a type 1 becomes a type 2. So, on one hand, I'm frustrated that Microsoft does not provide equal information to developers (another example may be that you cannot know the direction of a HBITMAP after it is created), on the other hand, I'm still wondering is there a way to distinguish these HDC.   I know there's a Rest API to check the Twitter rate limit. To summarize policy: 150 for an IP, and 150 per non-whitelisted account except for searches (which are IP only). However, my app is using Twython, authenticated, but the limit seems to decrease for both my accounts as I use it.   I have a set of items that can be in various states. I want to allow a user to use an (X)HTML form to change the state, and easily view the state of a group of objects ...so to this end, I'd like a layout like: | item1 | radio button for state 1 | radio for state 2 | ... | [update button] | | item2 | radio button for state 1 | radio for state 2 | ... | [update button] | etc. I prefer the radio buttons to list boxes so that it's easy for a user to visually scan for things in a certain state. It seemed like perfectly tabular data to me. The only problem is, you can't have forms inside a table that cross table cells (ie. <tr> <form> <td> ... is invalid). I thought, "hey, I could have one giant form wrapping a table, and make the [update button] value contain the IDs for each row!" Turns out certain versions of IE send ALL THE SUBMIT BUTTON VALUES on any single form. So I thought perhaps to to lay it out with <div>s and place the forms inside a single <td>. But then they break a line on each <div>. So I fixed their width and made them float: left. But then they wrap inside the table cells if the table row is wider than the page, and the radio controls don't line up with the headings. Is it possible to lay this out as I intend? The XHTML below shows the intended structure. • Architecture for a farmville/yoville/cafe world type game?

  I'm thinking of building a game along the lines of Farmville - items, events, time management system etc. Options I am thinking of: 1) Flash UI frontend that uses AMFPHP to get all data for the view from a PHP powered backend. 2) Actionscript to power the whole game Any input is appreciated. My concern with Actionscript is scaling, my concern with PHP is having to build an update system that would need a lot of back and forth xmlhttprequests which might get complicated. If there's a better way to build something like this, I'm all ears :)

  I'm wondering what the Stack Overflow community thinks when it comes to creating a project (thinking primarily c++ here) with a unicode or a multi-byte character set. Are there pros to going Unicode straight from the start, implying all your strings will be in wide format? Are there performance issues / larger memory requirements because of a standard use of a larger character? Is there an advantage to this method? Do some processor architectures handle wide characters better? Are there any reasons to make your project Unicode if you don't plan on supporting additional languages? What reasons would one have for creating a project with a multi-byte character set? How do all of the factors above collide in a high performance environment (such as a modern video game) ?

The idea is to get in the same row the element information plus several records information.   Evening, So I've recently installed VPython on my MacBook (OS X, Snow Leopard) - and it works absolutely fine in IDLE and from the command line (interactive mode). However, eclipse has issues. Firstly it couldn't find it (which is a bit of an issue actually with all these 'easy install' python modules - when they don't tell you where they actually install to!) but I searched it out in the depths of Library\Frameworks... and added that to the System PYTHONPATH listbox in Eclipse. Now it can find it, but it says the following: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/Users/duncantait/dev/workspace/Network_Simulation/src/Basic/Net_Sim1.py", line 15, in <module> import visual File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/visual/__init__.py", line 59, in <module> import cvisual ImportError: dlopen(/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/visual/cvisual.so, 2): no suitable image found. Did find: /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/visual/cvisual.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture I am guessing that VPython might not be built for a 64-bit architecture (Intel), but the fact remains that it works in both IDLE and command prompt... So there must be a way to configure Eclipse to run it right? (Wishful thinking). Thanks for any help! Duncan

  Hi, I understand that this question could be answered with a simple sentence and that it may be viewed as subjective, however, I am a young student who is interested in pursuing a career in programming and wondered how long it took some of you to get to the level of experience you are now?. I ask this because I am currently working on building an application in Java on the Android platform and it bothers me that I am constantly having to look up how to write a certain section of code in my application such as writing to a database, or how the if loop should be structured. My question really is, how long did it take for you to become experienced enough to actually know exactly how your next line of code was going to look, before you even wrote it?

• What type of webapp is the sweet spot for Scala's Lift framework?

  What kind of applications are the sweet spot for Scala's lift web framework. My requirements: Ease of development and maintainability Ready for production purposes. i.e. good active online community, regular patches and updates for security and performance fixes etc. Framework should survive a few years. I don't want to write a app in a framework for which no updates/patches are available after 1 year. Has good UI templating engines Interoperation with Java (Scala satisfies this arleady. Just mentioning here for completeness sake) Good component oriented development. Time required to develop should be proportion to the complexity of web application. Should not be totally configuration based. I hate it when code gets automatically generated for me and does all sorts of magic under the hood. That is a debugging nightmare. Amount of Lift knowledge required to develop a webapp should be proportional to the complexity of the web application. i.e I should't have to spend 10+ hours learning Lift just to develop a simple TODO application. (I have knowledge of Databases, Scala) Does Lift satisfy these requirements?

• Duck type testing with C# 4 for dynamic objects.

  I'm wanting to have a simple duck typing example in C# using dynamic objects. It would seem to me, that a dynamic object should have HasValue/HasProperty/HasMethod methods with a single string parameter for the name of the value, property, or method you are looking for before trying to run against it. I'm trying to avoid try/catch blocks, and deeper reflection if possible. It just seems to be a common practice for duck typing in dynamic languages (JS, Ruby, Python etc.) that is to test for a property/method before trying to use it, then falling back to a default, or throwing a controlled exception. The example below is basically what I want to accomplish. If the methods described above don't exist, does anyone have premade extension methods for dynamic that will do this? Example: In JavaScript I can test for a method on an object fairly easily. //JavaScript function quack(duck) { if (duck && typeof duck.quack === "function") { return duck.quack(); } return null; //nothing to return, not a duck } How would I do the same in C#? //C# 4 dynamic Quack(dynamic duck) { //how do I test that the duck is not null, //and has a quack method? //if it doesn't quack, return null }

The service is built in php and is located on some remote server not under my control so i cant modify it to add meta data or something else into it. • Why can't Doctrine retrieve my model data?

  So, I'm trying to use Doctrine to retrieve some data. I have some basic code like this: $conn = Doctrine_Manager::connection(CONNECTION_STRING); $site = Doctrine_Core::getTable('Site')->find('00024'); echo $site->SiteName; However, this keeps throwing a SQL error that 'column siteid does not exist'. • Can I use XText for a DSL involving an XML file type?

  I have defined a small DSL that is mostly written in the form of different types of XML files in conjuction with some property files. This works very well but I wish to create an Eclipse Editor to make editing these files easier for beginners (I already have a working parser). The main XML file can reference some items from the .properties files and vice-versa. THe main xml file can also reference other XML files. Certain options should only be available in the main xml file based on the contents of the .properties files and based on some osgi plugins that can be added to the DSL project (the syntax is dynamic depending on context). The structure of the language is fixed but the options available in each attribute or the choice of attributes themselves changes depending on metadata contained in plugin .jar files. Questions: Does XText support dynamic syntax (validation changes depending on external factors)? Does XText support XML files / .properties files? Thank you very much for your help in advance.

• NHibernate + Remoting = ReflectionPermission Exception

  Hi all, We are dealing with a problem when using NHibernate with Remoting in a machine with full trust enviroment (actually that's our dev machine). The problem happens when whe try to send as a parameter an object previously retrieved from the server, that contains a NHibernate Proxy in one of the properties (a lazy one). As we are in the dev machine, there's no restriction in the trust level of the web app (it's set to Full) and, as a plus, we've configured NHibernate's and Castle's assemblies to full trust in CAS (even thinking that it'd not be necessary as the remoting app in IIS has the full trust level). Does anyone have any idea of what can be causing this exception? Stack trace below. • Does the specific signed integer matter when implementing compareTo in a Comparable <Type> class?

  When implementing compareTo(), does the degree of "difference" need to be taken into account? For instance, if I have 3 objects, C1, C2, and C3, such that C1 < C2 < C3. Should C1.compareTo(C2) return an integer that is less than C2.compareTo(C3)? The documentation for the Comparable interface doesn't seem to specify one way or another, so I'm guessing the degree doesn't matter, but it would be nice to know if there is some advantage returning a specific number (for example, improving TreeSet sort speed or something). http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/Comparable.html#compareTo(T)
