    I have a SYABAS-based NAS Multimedia Server, which is connected via LAN to a PC running embedded Linux. I can get a list of content on the NAS device, but when I press play, it does not play, but displays the text path of the media file itself. In short it does not play streamed content, whereas the same content I am able to play using Windows based Internet Explorer. I meed a media player to work with embedded linux....

  • Is bigger capacity ram faster then smaller capacity ram for same clock and CL?

    I know that bigger capacity hard-drives with the same RPM are faster then smaller capacity hard-drives. I was wondering if the same is true for ram. Given two ram clocked at 1600mhz and with identical CLs: 9-9-9-24. Is a 2x8 going to perform better then a 2x4 ? Note that I am not asking if having more ram will improve the performance of my PC, I'm asking if the bigger capacity ram performs better. Thank You.

  • Windows minimizing automatically.

    My computer (running xp sp3) keeps minimizing windows or deselecting them automatically. It's so bad that I can't do anything before the windows close. (typing this on my phone) and no, I'm not prssing alt tab, I'm not touching anything when it happens. Had anybody else had this problem? And if so how did you fix it? Please help my pc is completely unusable because of this.

  • Does VMware_ThinApp_4.0.3_169725.msi contain Trojan.Win32.Vapsup in it? [closed]

    Today I ran a full system scan using Online Armor++. It detected Trojans in the installer. I have had this installer on the computer for many months and I do not remember if I ever installed it on this PC or not. For some reason I unpacked the installer with 7zip though. I was probably going to attempt to make it portable. Anyway so I had the installer in a folder, and another folder next to it with all of the installers files unpacked. The VMwareVS.cab file that was extracted from the installer, also had its files extracted into another folder. This was all done many months ago. OA++ did not detect the installer itself as as Trojan VMwareVS.cab, but it did detect 4 of the files that I had unpacked as Trojans. Here are the details of what the scan detected on my PC today. Note: I uploaded these files to VirusTotal....the Ikarus and A-squared engines(the engines from Online Armor++) are not detecting anything. But some of the other engines are detecting the same Trojan that OA++ detected(Trojan.Win32.Vapsup).   • Troubleshooting major performance issue: Is culprit Intel RST, Hard drive, or something else?

    The Setup I have the following components that come into play in this situation: ASUS P8Z68 V/PRO motherboard a RAID1 configuration (1x 1TB drive, 1 x 2TB drive -- I explain below), accelerated with an SSD using Intel's RST software, and 1 TB drive standing by as a spare. Core i7 2600k 32 GB RAM Windows 8.1 This box was designed to be beast, and until just recently, was very good at being just that. What's Happening The system has slowed to a crawl whenever it touches the disk. Things appear to work at normal speed when dealing with memory. For example, typing this is fine, but saving it to disk from notepad gave me a 5-7 second pause when clicking save. The disks appear to be at 100% all the time (e.g. the light on the disk access on the PC is solidly on -- not even any flashing) In ProcExp it appears that the disk is barely being utilized at all: Intel RST reports that everything is fine: Other Details Prior to this happening, RST had reported that my drives were failing (one went bad, one was throwing SMART events). This made sense; they were at the tail end of their warranty and the PC is on almost all the time. I RMA'd the drives via Seagate. In the meantime, I'd purchased a 2TB drive because I didn't realize that the 1TB drives were under warranty. I figured I'd replace the other 1 TB drive with another 2 TB when it died but then discovered the warranty. AFAIK, I haven't done any major updates since 8.1 and it worked fine after those. Question(s) How can I troubleshoot this? What is the best way to try to figure out why disks are being maxed out despite the OS reporting barely any disk usage and that everything is OK? Given the failures, etc. that I describe above, is it possible that the problem could be the I/O on the motherboard itself? If so, how would I even be able to diagnose it? I'm betting the drives that Seagate gave me are refurbished (didn't think to look; that's dumb). Is it possible that the same model drive, refurbished, could somehow cause this? In terms of how RAID1 works, is it possible that one drive is "falling behind" somehow, and that the RAID1 is constantly trying to fix the mirroring? If so, this seems like Intel RST would report on it, but I wanted to consider it as an option.

    I have a Quad Core Intel PC with 4GB of RAM - I've been using it over a year to run web server stress tests (ab.exe -n 5000 -c 500), encode HD video, play games, open hundreds of tabs in multiple browsers (simultaneously), worked on multi-layered +8000px art in photoshop and just about every other thing you can think of. As of yet I've never passed 2.3GB of RAM usage. How in the world do you use all 4GB? Is there any use for it?

  • Which keymap to use for wired mac keyboard in Gentoo Linux?

    I just purchase the new wired mac keyboard: Running on Gentoo Linux it works mostly fine. The only problem i am having is the function keys and swapping the alt and command keys to resemble a regular pc keyboard. When I tried switching to the "mac-us" keymap in /etc/conf.d/keymaps I got garbage when typing (not even qwerty). Is there any specific keymap that I can use to get what I want?

    What I'm asking here is, if I order PC3200 memory is it all going to be 1.8V, or will some be 2.5, some 1.8, etc... I don't mean variation within a specific part #, but rather across part numbers, is there a variation where some PC 3200 memory would be incompatible with others because it is 2.5 v 1.8V .

I have come across a Windows XP machine that is sending unwanted p2p traffic. I have done a 'netstat -b' command and explorer.exe is sending out the traffic. When I kill this process the traffic stops and obviously Windows Explorer dies. Here is the header of the stream from the Wireshark dump (x.x.x.x) is the machines IP. I have looked in Windows firewall and it shouldn't be letting this traffic through. I have had a look into the messages explorer.exe is sending in Spy++ and the only related ones I can see are socket connections etc... My question is what can I do to look into this deeper? What does malware achieve by sending p2p traffic? I know to fix the problem the easiest way is to reinstall Windows but I want to get to the bottom of it first, just out of interest. Edit: Had a look at Deoendency Walker and Process Explorer. Both great tools. I want to copy a large amount of data over from the HDD to the USB drive with integrity checking. I thought about copying everything over and then checking with md5summer but this would take a reaally long time because its a lot of data and this is not a very powerful PC.   • Network Printers

    We have a sever that shares all the printers. The PC's that are running on XP professional get a error message quoting (Connect to Printer). The only way I can find to get around the problem is by restating the printer and as soon is it comes online you can then add it but you have not got long. do you think it could be anything to-do with updates on the sever? the sever system is running Windows Server 2003 any help would be much appreciated.   • Get 5.1 surround sound from computer through a VCR config?

    I'm posting to see if my idea of this setup is right and can be done. I currently have the following "equipment": a JVC VCR -quite old-, which has built in surround sound (aka it has several speaker outputs, which I believe is 5.1 and are connected to several speakers that are in every corner of the room), a computer with SPDIF optical output and a new flat screen TV (with built in HDMI). I want the computer to take advantage of the VCR's surround system (all the speakers in the room) in order to play mainly music and video always with all the speakers (5.1) and with the maximum sound quality. Currently, the computer plays sound only through the front speaker (I connect one output to the on board pc audio input) and the quality is really bad. As a side note, the computer video runs with S-video (old school), and the picture quality as you would imagine, is really bad with the new big LCD screen. My main goals are: to upgrade the picture with a new video card which would support HDMI (my tv has HDMI). to buy a SPDIF optical cable, connect one end to the VCR SPDIF input and the other end to the PC output This is theoretically what I've researched so far, and I came out with several questions: in this case, with the SPDIF cable connected, and all the configurations done in windows allowing the 5.1, will I get every content I play "converted" or played through all of my speakers? (I read this forum post). I already know that in order for this setup to play from all the speakers, the content/audio source has to be 5.1. but my question is, if there is a way to play from all of the speakers no matter what type of content I'm playing (that's why I said conversion there) I already know that HDMI cables carry digital sound. Is there a way I can only use said HDMI cord to the tv, and get sound through the VCR? (I'm not too sure about this, I would have to disable the TVs speakers and use the VCR surround as default, but I have no clue wether this can be done or not). Update: The ultimate question is, do I really have to rely on "sound virtualization" technology to get sound from all the speakers, no matter what content I play? (do I require a newer sound card, like a creative soundblaster with said technology?) Thanks!

  • Cannot delete an existing service using sc command: The Specified service does not exist as an installed service

    As shown in the picture below, I want to delete MyNewService, but when I type in sc delete MyNewService I simply can't delete it because there is no such servic, due to "the Specified service does not exist as an installed service" error Any ideas how to solve this problem? Edit: as far as the service panel is concerned, the MyNewService is there all the time; I restarted the pc a few times, and it's there.

  • Windows crashes when I try to compress large .MOV file from iPhone

    I have a 40 minute, 6 gigabyte .MOV file that I transferred from my iPhone to my PC. I need to upload the video to Youtube but the file is too large. When I try to compress the video, my computer will shut off when the process reaches 3 or 4 percent. This has happened in Windows Live Movie Maker, Riva FLV encoder, and VLC. Any ideas on how I can get this file down to a reasonable size so I can upload it online?

  • Trying to upgrade SQL Server 2008 to R2 but SQL is sleeping or dead?

    I've used the option to upgrade SQL Server 2008 to R2 but I noticed it gets to about 20-30% and it just sits on this screen: I've left it alone for over 2 hours, the PC is definately not frozen cause I can click the help or move the window around but it says "Install_sql_common_core_loc_Cpu64_1033_action: Install Files. Copying new files" for the past 2 hours. I have tried to do the install from a CD as well as a network drive, both with the same issue. Is there anything I can check or do ?
