  • iPhone Exception Handling

    I have one crash in my iPhone application that does throw an NSException. The crash reports are completely ambiguous in where the error is and what exactly is causing it. Is there a smart way for me to set a top level exception handler somewhere to see what is causing it? I can't replicate the problem myself, but a few of my beta users certainly can. What's a smart way to handle a problem of this nature?

  • CorePlot - Set y-Axis range to include all data points

    I have implemented a CorePlot graph in my iOS application, however I am unable to dynamically size the y-Axis based on the data points in the set. Some datasets range from 10-50, while others would range from 400-500. In both cases, I would like to have y-origin (0) visible. I have tried using the scaletofitplots method: [graph.defaultPlotSpace scaleToFitPlots:[graph allPlots]]; but this has no effect on the graphs, they still show the default Y-Axis range of 0 to 1. The only way that I can change the y-Axis is to do it manually via this: graph.defaultPlotSpace.yRange = [CPTPlotRange plotRangeWithLocation:CPTDecimalFromFloat(0.0f)) length:CPTDecimalFromFloat(500.0f)]; however this doesn't work well for graphs with smaller ranges (10-50), as you can imagine. Is there any method to retrieve the highest y-value from my dataset so that I can manually set the maximum y-Axis to that value? Or is there a better alternative?

  • Memory leak when declaring NSString from ABRecordCopyValue

    I am using the following line of code... NSString *clientFirstName = (NSString *)ABRecordCopyValue(person, kABPersonFirstNameProperty); The 'analyse' feature on Xcode is saying that this giving rise to a potential memory leak. I am not releasing clientFirstName at all as I have neither alloc or retain'd it. However, I am conscious that ABRecordCopyValue may not be returning an object as say a command like [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:someArray] would which might mean I am indeed creating a new object that I control and must release. Keen to hear thoughts...

    Yes. I've searched a lot without success. I've looking for a way to get a property name as StringValue from inside a method. Lets say: My class has X Subviews from the Type UILabel. @property (strong, nonatomic) UILabel *firstLabel; @property (strong, nonatomic) UILabel *secondLabel; [...] and so on. Inside the method foo, the views are iterated as followed: -(void) foo { for (UIView *view in self.subviews) { if( [view isKindOfClass:[UILabel class]] ) { /* codeblock that gets the property name. */ } } } The Result should be something like that: THE propertyName(NSString) OF view(UILabel) IS "firstLabel" I've tried class_getInstanceVariable, object_getIvar and property_getName without Success. For Example, the Code for: [...] property_getName((void*)&view) [...] RETURNS: <UILabel: 0x6b768c0; frame = (65 375; 219 21); text = 'Something'; clipsToBounds = YES; opaque = NO; autoresize = RM+BM; userInteractionEnabled = NO; layer = <CALayer: 0x6b76930>> But i'm looking for this kind of result: "firstLabel" , "secondLabel" and so on.     Hi all, I attempted to render a circle in opengl es 1.1 as a test before building a larger program, but it renders as an oval. Here is the code I use to generate and render my vertices: static const int numVerts = 40; static GLfloat myFirstCircle[82]; myFirstCircle[0] = 0.0f; myFirstCircle[1] = 0.0f; for (int i = 2; i < (numVerts+1)*2; i+=2) { myFirstCircle[i] = .5 * cosf(i*2*3.14159/numVerts); myFirstCircle[i+1] = .5 * sinf(i*2*3.14159/numVerts); } glVertexPointer(2, GL_FLOAT, 0, myFirstCircle); glEnableClientState(GL_VERTEX_ARRAY); glDrawArrays(GL_TRIANGLE_FAN, 0, 22); I'm still somewhat new to this system, so I may have a silly error that I do not see, but it seems to me like this should generate 40 vertices on a circle of radius .5. When it renders, the shape on screen appears to be an oval, significantly taller than it is wide. My question is thus: why is my circle rendering this way, and what could I do to fix it? This is the first question on stackoverflow, so I'm not sure how to share an image of my output.

    Hi everyone, I have a long NSString in which I m trying to replace special characters. Part of my string looks like this: "veau (c\u00f4telette)","veau (filet)","agneau (gigot)","agneau (c\u00f4telette)","b*\u0153*uf (hach\u00e9)","porc (hach\u00e9)" I would like to replace all the \u0153 with "oe". I ve tried: [response stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:@"\u0153" withString:@"oe"]; but it doesn't work.... I don't understand why! Thanks

  • xcode - warning there's no getter/setter for property not even mentioned in the code!!

    I got the warning : property 'textField' requires method '-textField' to be defined - use @synthesize, @dynamic or provide a method implementation. Now, there is no such property defined in my project! More bizarre, if I just click save in Interface builder and build again, the build is successful - though, right on the line with '@end' the warning appears. Also weird: if I begin to write some code ..and then delete it just the way it was before writing it (maybe not code..anything) and then build&go the warning with the textField appears again. Could be a bug of sdk? What could be happening?

    I have this code which should create a splash image with either no animation or a fade in, then call code to dismiss the image out after a delay. I made an outlet: IBOutlet UIWebView *browser; Defined it as a property: @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWebView *browser; Synthethized it: @synthesize browser; Finally, I connected it in Interface Builder, really it is. Then I try to do something with it i.e.: [browser loadRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://apple.com"]]]; Or also: Etape *etape = [[Etape alloc] init]; NSString *html = [etape generateHTMLforEtape:[current_etape objectAtIndex:0]]; [browser loadHTMLString:html baseURL:nil]; [etape release]; I get no errors, I tried to Build & Analyse, no notices or warnings or errors..   • Distinct Value Array for View Controller Index Using Core Data

    Hi, I'm trying to create an index representing the first letter value of each record in a Core Data store to be used in a table view controller. I'm using a snippet of the code from Apple's documentation. I would simply like to produce an array or dictionary of distinct values as the result. My store already has the character defined within each record object. Questions: 1) I'm having a problem understanding NSDictionaryResultType. Where does the resulting dictionary object get received so that I can assign it's keys to the view controller? The code seems to only return an array. 2) If I include the line containing NSDictionaryResultType, I get no returns. 3) I realize that I could do this in a loop, but I'm hoping this will work.   • Updating Label on previously loaded view?

    I am working on a simple app tab-bar based application that has two views. The first is the main application and the second is a simple instruction screen. What I am trying to do is create a update a label on that second screen as things change in the main app. Because the second screen is only simple with one label and some text I am not unloading it once its loaded. After the first viewDidLoad I can update the label just fine, but after that is there a way to catch successive view switches from the tab-bar menu so I can update the label? many thanks gary

  • Which pdf elements could cause crashes?

    This is a very general question but it's based on a specific problem. I've created a pdf reader app for the iPad and it works fine except for certain pdf pages which always crash the app. We now found out that the very same pages cause Safari to crash as well, so as I had started to suspect the problem is somewhere in Apple's pdf rendering code. From what I have been able to see, the crashing pages cause the rendering libraries to start allocating memory like mad until the app is killed. I have nothing else to help me pinpoint what triggers this process. It doesn't necessarily happen with the largest documents, or the ones with the most shapes. In fact, we haven't found any parameter that helps us predict which pages will crash and which not. Now we just discovered that running the pages through a consumer program that lets you merge docs gets rid of the problem, but I haven't been able to detect which attribute or element it is that is the key. Changing documents by hand is also not an option for us in the long run. We need to run an automated process on our server. I'm hoping someone with deeper knowledge about the pdf file format would be able to point me in a reasonable direction to look for document features that could cause this kind of behavior. All I've found so far is something about JBIG2 images, and I don't think we have any of those.

    I know how to recursively list directory contents. I will be using Snow Leopard's enumeratorAtURL:includingPropertiesForKeys:options:errorHandler: method to do this. However I want to store my findings into a object hierarchy (of, say, objects of a custom FileOrDirectory class that has isLeaf, children, and count attributes). I need to pre-load the directory and file structure into such a object hierarchy, in order to do whatever I want with NSTreeController and whatnot. I guess the trickiest thing here is to get the children attribute correct in the object hierarchy. Any ideas?

  • Remove year component from NSDateFormatter style

    I would like to present a date in the kCFDateFormatterFullStyle, but without the year. Is there any way to remove the year component from this style? My app requires localization so practically I cannot programmatically set the format string for all locales. I have come accross a solution which removes the "y" characters from the format string returned by the built in styles. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable as the year components are not represented by "y" in some other languages like Japanese. Any suggestions to get the kCFDateFormatterFullStyle without the year would be great! Thanks.

  • Is it possible to send OSC commands to an iPad via the Camera Connection Kit?

    I'm building a small controller device that I'd like to partner with a computer. I've settled on using OSC out from my custom built hardware and am pretty satisfied with what I can get from WOscLib. Two goals I'd like to achieve are portability and a very nice ratio between battery:computing power, and this has lured me towards using iPhoneOS to accomplish my goals. I think the iPad would suit my needs perfectly, except that using wifi to broadcast OSC out from my device requires that device to be connected to a third device with a wifi chip, and this would destroy the goal of portability, whilst also introducing potential latency and stability headaches. My question is pretty simple: Can I push OSC commands FROM my controller TO an iPad via USB and the Camera Connection Kit? If I could accomplish this, the two major goals of my project would be fulfilled very nicely. This seems like it should be a simple little question, but researching this obsessively over the past few weeks has left me more almost more uncertain than if I had done no research at all. I'd really like some more confidence before I go down this route, and it seems like it should be possible. Any insight would be very, very appreciated.
