  • Scaling Skeletal values to be able to reach objects on the screen

    - by Sweta Dwivedi
    I have created a game using Kinect + XNA and the game runs on full screen mode.. However when i try to touch or reach a certain area on the screen using hand.. I cant reach it.. I will already be outside the range of the sensor trying to touch the object on the game screen.. Is there anyway I can scale the skeletal values so that the users can easily touch objects on the screen without having to stretch or bend too much?

  • Chrome + Touchscreen + Unity (14.04)

    - by Luis Fernando P. Gonzalez
    I've got a Dell 14R with touchscreen with Ubuntu 14.04. When I start Google Chrome by clicking the launcher with the TouchPad or with the Super+ combination, touch support in Chrome doesn't work. When I touch some element, it only gets focus, but doesn't activate the element (button, field, etc). And touch gestures don't work. In the other hand, if I start Chrome by touching the launcher button, touch scroll works in Chrome, even flicking to left does back to the previous page, etc. It doesn't makes sense to me, but is always like this, even across reboots. Anyone can confirm this? Any idea on how to fix?

  • Difficult to point-and-click target with Apple Magic Trackpad?

    - by Andrew Swift
    My Magic Trackpad is great for most things involving dragging and gestures, but for simple point-and-click use it is starting to get really annoying. For example, my bank has a numeric code that I need to enter from a visual grid on the screen, by clicking on the six numbers in order. To do this is quite difficult with the Magic Trackpad. Idea 1: it is because when you start dragging on the touchpad, there is a brief delay before the mouse starts to move. The delay might be enough to screw up my anticipation of where the cursor is going to go. Idea 2: it may have to do with the cursor acceleration. If I move it a little, the cursor moves a little. If I move it a lot, it goes much faster. I have tried various settings in the preference pane, and although the cursor does move more or less quickly, it doesn't seem any more or less easy to hit a given target. As I am writing this post, I tried a brief experiment -- I chose a spot on the page (the bracket in the superuser logo) and tried to move the cursor there in one quick movement. It's extremely difficult, even though I've been using Macs and touchpads since 1999. There is something about the behavior of the trackpad that is making it impossible for me to learn how to accurately predict where the cursor will end up. Does anyone else have this problem?

  • How to work with code examples in Apple's Keynote?

    - by Michael Easter
    I'm creating a presentation in Keynote on the Mac. It is intended for an audience of Java developers, and has some slides that contain blocks of Java code. Even with a monospaced font, I find the TextBox feature to be difficult in terms of formatting. Crazy Bob has an article on how he handled it in 2004 (he creates PDFs from the code samples and then includes those). However, I would like to know if there have been any changes since then. How do you work with code examples (Java, C#, Javascript, whatever) in Keynote?

  • How can I personalize my MacBook Pro Touchpad?

    - by Barkerto
    I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on a MacBook Pro 5.5. I'm just wondering if there is something that takes all the kinks out of the touch-pad. It works good, but it feels sluggish, double tap works about 75% of the time and sometimes while I it somehow selects something on a different page (although I'm not sure if that has to deal with the touch-pad and not weird laptop bugs for a new LTS) If there are any programs, apps, commands aside from the built in system preferences mouse and track-pad touch-pad menu that allow someone to "optimize" touch-pad potential.

  • Pre-set OS X dock icon positions for non-permanent apps?

    - by Jack Sleight
    Is it possible to have OS X always place certain app icons in specific places (eg. position "two") in the dock, when they're not permanently docked apps? At the moment every non-permanent app is added to the end (far right), but, for example, if I have my mail and todo list apps open, I want them to pop up in positions one and two. I know this can easily be achieved by permanently docking icons, I'm specifically looking for a solution for non-permanent apps. I suspect OS X has no built in facility for this, perhaps there's a 3rd party app or script/command line trick?

  • How to tell rsync not to touch the destination directory permissions?

    - by Sorin Sbarnea
    I am using rsync to sync a directory from a machine to another but I encountered the following problem: the destination directory permissions are altered. rsync -ahv defaults/ root@hostname:~/ The problem is that in this case the permissions and ownership of the defaults forlder will be assigned to the destination folder. I do want to keep the permissions for the files and subdirectories but not for the source directory itself. Also, I do not want to remove any existing files from the destination (but to update them if needed), but I think that current settings are already ok regarding this. How can I do this?

  • How to train users converting from PC to Mac/Apple at a small non profit?

    - by Everette Mills
    Background: I am part of a team that provides volunteer tech support to a local non profit. We are in the position to obtain a grant to update almost all of our computers (many of them 5 to 7 year old machines running XP), provide laptops for users that need them, etc. We are considering switching our users from PC (WinXP) to Macs. The technical aspects of switching will not be an issue for the team. We are in the process of planning data conversions, machine setup, server changes, etc regardless of whether we switch to Macs or much newer PCs. About 1/4 of the staff uses or has access to a Mac at home, these users already understand the basics of using the equipment. We have another set of (generally younger) users that are technically savvy and while slightly inconvenienced and slowed for a few days should be able to switch over quickly. Finally, several members of the staff are older and have many issues using there computers today. We think in the long run switching to Macs may provide a better user experience, fewer IT headaches, and more effective use of computers. The questions we have is what resources and training (webpages, Books, online training materials or online courses) do you recommend that we provide to users to enable the switchover to happen smoothly. Especially, with a focus on providing different levels of training and support to users with different skill levels. If you have done this in your own organization, what steps were successful, what areas were less successful?

  • WPF PasswordBox Input Panel Icon Not Appearing: Better Workaround?

    - by Anna Savarin
    Hello, There is a known issue in WPF where the Input Panel icon does not appear when you set focus on a PasswordBox control. I'm in need of a workaround for this, but the one suggested -- using the ITextInputPanel API -- does not quite cut it for me. Fist of all, the API works with Windows Forms controls and alternatively accepts control handles. Since WPF controls are not handle based, and they are not Forms controls, this is not quite suitable. I tried hosting a Forms control on my WPF page and that worked on the Windows XP Tabled PC (albeit with some COM exceptions) but, since there is no PasswordBox in Forms, I had to stick with a regular textbox, which is not what I need. Alternatively, using the VisualTreeHelper to get a handle on the control did not work, either. The API, according to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms699559%28VS.85%29.aspx, is only compatible with Vista. I'm dealing with Windows XP tablets. I understand that the IPenInput API can be used as an alternative, but it is now deprecated. Can someone please suggest something? I really need to fix this issue. Thanks in advance!

  • Enable LLVM + Clang in Xcode new project causes linking errors

    - by Ger Teunis
    I've done a complete clean uninstall of XCode and deleted the prefs and deleted complete /Developer folder and reinstalled XCode again. I create a new Cocoa application, go over to Target, doing a "Get info" in the target and enable "C / C++ compiler version" to "LLVM compiler 1.0.2" and press Build. I get: ld: warning: directory '/usr/lib/gcc/i686-apple-darwin10/4.2.1/x86_64' following -L not found ld: warning: directory '/usr/lib/gcc/i686-apple-darwin10/4.2.1/x86_64' following -L not found ld: warning: directory '/usr/lib/i686-apple-darwin10/4.2.1' following -L not found ld: warning: directory '/usr/lib/gcc/i686-apple-darwin10/4.2.1' following -L not found ld: warning: directory '/usr/lib/gcc/i686-apple-darwin10/4.2.1' following -L not found ld: warning: directory '/usr/lib/gcc/i686-apple-darwin10/4.2.1/../../../i686-apple-darwin10/4.2.1' following -L not found ld: warning: directory '/usr/lib/gcc/i686-apple-darwin10/4.2.1/../../..' following -L not found ld: library not found for -lgcc Command /Developer/usr/bin/clang failed with exit code 1 Anyone able to help me here? LLVM + GCC frontend does work though but I really would like to use Clang (LLVM compiler 1.0.2). New XCode install, new Cocoa project still have this issue.

  • touchesBegin & touchesMove Xcode Obj C Question

    - by AndrewDK
    So I have my app working good when you press and drag along. I also have UIButtons set to Touch Down in Interface Builder. As well when you drag you need to drag from the outside of the UIButton. You cannot click on the UIButton and drag to the other. TOUCHES MOVED: Code: -(void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [[event touchesForView:self.view] anyObject]; CGPoint location = [touch locationInView:touch.view]; if(CGRectContainsPoint(oneButton.frame, location)) { if (!oneButton.isHighlighted){ [self oneFunction]; [oneButton setHighlighted:YES]; } }else { [oneButton setHighlighted:NO]; } // if(CGRectContainsPoint(twoButton.frame, location)) { if (!twoButton.isHighlighted){ [self twoFunction]; [twoButton setHighlighted:YES]; } }else { [twoButton setHighlighted:NO]; } } TOUCHES BEGAN: Code: - (void) touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [[event touchesForView:self.view] anyObject]; CGPoint location = [touch locationInView:touch.view]; if(CGRectContainsPoint(oneButton.frame, location)) { [self oneFunction]; [oneButton setHighlighted:YES]; } if(CGRectContainsPoint(twoButton.frame, location)) { [self twoFunction]; [twoButton setHighlighted:YES]; } } I want to be able to click on any of the button fire the function & also be able to drag from one button on to the other and fire that function. So basically just being able to click on a button and slide your finger over and activate the other button without having to press and slide from outside of the button. I think I'm close, need a bit of help. Hope thats clear enough. Thanks.

  • JS sort works in Firefox but not IE - can't work out why

    - by Max Williams
    I have a line in a javascript function that sort an array of objects based on the order of another array of strings. This is working in firefox but not in IE and i don't know why. Here's what my data looks like going into the sort call. (I'm using an array of three items just to illustrate the point here). //cherry first then the rest in alphabetical order originalData = ['cherry','apple','banana','clementine','nectarine','plum'] //data before sorting - note how clementine is second item - we wan to to to be after apple and banana csub = [ {"value":"cherry","data":["cherry"],"result":"cherry"}, {"value":"clementine","data":["clementine"],"result":"clementine"}, {"value":"apple","data":["apple"],"result":"apple"}, {"value":"banana","data":["banana"],"result":"banana"}, {"value":"nectarine","data":["nectarine"],"result":"nectarine"}, {"value":"plum","data":["plum"],"result":"plum"} ] //after sorting, csub has been rearranged but still isn't right: clementine is before banana csubSorted = [ {"value":"cherry","data":["cherry"],"result":"cherry"}, {"value":"apple","data":["apple"],"result":"apple"}, {"value":"clementine","data":["clementine"],"result":"clementine"}, {"value":"banana","data":["banana"],"result":"banana"}, {"value":"nectarine","data":["nectarine"],"result":"nectarine"}, {"value":"plum","data":["plum"],"result":"plum"} ] Here's the actual sort code: csubSorted = csub.sort(function(a,b){ return (originalData.indexOf(a.value) > originalData.indexOf(b.value)); }); Can anyone see why this wouldn't work? Is the basic javascript sort function not cross-browser compatible? Can i do this a different way (eg with jquery) that would be cross-browser? grateful for any advice - max

  • Double Click and Resize on an Ipad

    - by Luke
    Thanks to the great post at OranLooney.com I was able to get a java/icefaces web-app to resize nicely on the ipad, however the code provided for double click doesn't seem to work without further customization. Has anybody had any experience with getting this to work? there seems to be little documentation on google. the donnothing(); in the window.orientationchange is there as it seems sometimes without it the resize will (sometimes) not work // a function to parse the user agent string; useful for // detecting lots of browsers, not just the iPad. function checkUserAgent(vs) { var pattern = new RegExp(vs, 'i'); return !!pattern.test(navigator.userAgent); } if ( checkUserAgent('iPad') ) { // iPad specific stuff here window.onorientationchange = function() { donnothing(); }; document.body.addEventListener('touchstart', function(e) { touch = e.touches[0]; if ( !touch ) return; var me = document.createEvent("MouseEvents"); me.initMouseEvent('dblclick', true, true, window, 1, // detail / mouse click count touch.screenX, touch.screenY, touch.clientX, touch.clientY, false, false, false, false, // key modifiers 0, // primary mouse button null // related target not used for dblclick event ); touch.target.dispatchEvent(me); }); }

  • How can I make Google Maps icon to always appear in the center of map - when clicked?

    - by JHM_67
    For simplicity sake, lets use the XML example on Econym's site. http://econym.org.uk/gmap/example_map3.htm Once clicked, I would like icon balloon to be displayed in the middle of the map. What might I need to add to Mike's code to get this to work? I apologize for asking a lot.. Thanks in advance. <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ if (GBrowserIsCompatible()) { side_bar var side_bar_html = ""; var gmarkers = []; function createMarker(point,name,html) { var marker = new GMarker(point); GEvent.addListener(marker, "click", function() { marker.openInfoWindowHtml(html); }); gmarkers.push(marker); side_bar_html += '<a href="javascript:myclick(' + (gmarkers.length-1) + ')">' + name + '<\/a><br>'; return marker; } function myclick(i) { GEvent.trigger(gmarkers[i], "click"); } var map = new GMap2(document.getElementById("map")); map.addControl(new GLargeMapControl()); map.addControl(new GMapTypeControl()); map.setCenter(new GLatLng( 43.907787,-79.359741), 9); GDownloadUrl("example.xml", function(doc) { var xmlDoc = GXml.parse(doc); var markers = xmlDoc.documentElement.getElementsByTagName("marker"); for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) { // obtain the attribues of each marker var lat = parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lat")); var lng = parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lng")); var point = new GLatLng(lat,lng); var html = markers[i].getAttribute("html"); var label = markers[i].getAttribute("label"); var marker = createMarker(point,label,html); map.addOverlay(marker); } document.getElementById("side_bar").innerHTML = side_bar_html; }); } else { alert("Sorry, the Google Maps API is not compatible with this browser"); } //]]> </script>

  • Custom event loop and UIKit controls. What extra magic Apple's event loop does?

    - by tequilatango
    Does anyone know or have good links that explain what iPhone's event loop does under the hood? We are using a custom event loop in our OpenGL-based iPhone game framework. It calls our game rendering system, calls presentRenderbuffer and pumps events using CFRunLoopRunInMode. See the code below for details. It works well when we are not using UIKit controls (as a proof, try Facetap, our first released game). However, when using UIKit controls, everything almost works, but not quite. Specifically, scrolling of UIKit controls doesn't work properly. For example, let's consider following scenario. We show UIImagePickerController on top of our own view. UIImagePickerController covers our custom view We also pause our own rendering, but keep on using the custom event loop. As said, everything works, except scrolling. Picking photos works. Drilling down to photo albums works and transition animations are smooth. When trying to scroll photo album view, the view follows your finger. Problem: when scrolling, scrolling stops immediately after you lift your finger. Normally, it continues smoothly based on the speed of your movement, but not when we are using the custom event loop. It seems that iPhone's event loop is doing some magic related to UIKit scrolling that we haven't implemented ourselves. Now, we can get UIKit controls to work just fine and dandy together with our own system by using Apple's event loop and calling our own rendering via NSTimer callbacks. However, I'd still like to understand, what is possibly happening inside iPhone's event loop that is not implemented in our custom event loop. - (void)customEventLoop { OBJC_METHOD; float excess = 0.0f; while(isRunning) { animationInterval = 1.0f / openGLapp->ticks_per_second(); // Calculate the target time to be used in this run of loop float wait = max(0.0, animationInterval - excess); Systemtime target = Systemtime::now().after_seconds(wait); Scope("event loop"); NSAutoreleasePool* pool = [[ NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; // Call our own render system and present render buffer [self drawView]; // Pump system events [self handleSystemEvents:target]; [pool release]; excess = target.seconds_to_now(); } } - (void)drawView { OBJC_METHOD; // call our own custom rendering bool bind = openGLapp->app_render(); // bind the buffer to be THE renderbuffer and present its contents if (bind) { opengl::bind_renderbuffer(renderbuffer); [context presentRenderbuffer:GL_RENDERBUFFER_OES]; } } - (void) handleSystemEvents:(Systemtime)target { OBJC_METHOD; SInt32 reason = 0; double time_left = target.seconds_since_now(); if (time_left <= 0.0) { while((reason = CFRunLoopRunInMode(kCFRunLoopDefaultMode, 0, TRUE)) == kCFRunLoopRunHandledSource) {} } else { float dt = time_left; while((reason = CFRunLoopRunInMode(kCFRunLoopDefaultMode, dt, FALSE)) == kCFRunLoopRunHandledSource) { double time_left = target.seconds_since_now(); if (time_left <= 0.0) break; dt = (float) time_left; } } }

  • Acer Aspire Touchscreen Not Responding

    - by Jerry
    I have an Acer Aspire z3101 all-in-one Touch screen running Windows 7 Home Premium. I am unable to get the screen to respond to my touch. I have checked the system and all drivers are ok according to comp. Using the settings to setup the pen and touch and to calibrate does not work. My touch brings no response at all. I had reinstalled the applications - Windows Touch Pack and Acer Touch Portal which didn't help. Today I done a complete reinstall returning comp back to factory settings and still there is no response. At first I thought that perhaps a driver or file was missing but now doubt that due to the reinstall not helping. Have you any idea what could be causing this problem? I am now at the stage of pulling my hair out and haven't had too much help from Acer. I have had the computer for just over a year now and so it is no longer under guarantee and this has me very worried due to my being unemployed. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.
