• Safari corrupting downloads?

  First off, a bit of background: I had to do an erase and install about 2-3 weeks ago, so this is a fresh, up-to-date installation of Snow Leopard we're dealing with. That said, I decided recently to branch out from simply programming PHP in a text editor and explore some of the other technologies I keep hearing about, and picked up Drupal, Joomla, and the Zend Framework from their respective official sites. Latest complete, stable builds for all 3. Drupal and Joomla downloaded without a problem, but when I put them in my /~username/Sites folder, XAMPP pretends they're not there, even if I restart Apache or the laptop itself. Zend's archive won't open at all. Is Safari corrupting the downloads, or are there other issues in play that can be investigated?

• Windows 7 Dell laptop Forgotten password

  Hi, A friend has managed to set up their new Windows 7 Home Premium Dell Inspiron and forgot the password they have used. I have tried the following password reset software to no avail: UBCD OHPCrack Offline NT Password & Registry Editor *Trinity Kon Boot I have also tried to do a system restore but this asks for the password. The user does not have any data they need to save. Is there anyway I can get access to the restore partition using Linux to create a recovery disk or do I have to purchase a recovery disk from Dell? Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Is there a blog tool with support for tagging posts, only displaying posts with certain combinations

  What I want: A blog. I can tag posts, e.g. "A" or "B" or "all," and then you can either 1) click to only view posts tagged "A" or "all" or 2) even more ideally, I can set it so you automatically see posts tagged "A" or "all" when you log in. LaTeX support--I can type in LaTeX in the editor and it will show the math properly. No anonymous anything--must sign up and be logged in to view and comment Not as important, but convenient: Admin controls, e.g. detailed statistics, see who posts or views what when, control who posts / views, etc. Hosting: Ideally, if there's some software I can install on "my" own server, that would be ideal. But if we can't host it, it'd still be good to find some free (or maybe even paid) service elsewhere that would host the blog if it provided those tools. Any thoughts? I have no experience with this. • Error opening hyperlinks in Excel 2003

  When clicking to follow hyperlinks from Excel, I'm now getting this error: Unable to open http://blah... Cannot download the information you requested. The hyperlinks in the Excel file are created using the HYPERLINK() formula. I use Google Chrome as my default browser. The web site in question uses Basic Authentication, and I've entered correct credentials when prompted (the dialog looked like an IE auth box, not Chrome's, but it's always been that way, even when it was working properly). This hasn't been an issue until recently. I'm guessing our IT department made some lame change to IE's configuration that is causing Office to not be able to open the URLs, despite having Chrome as my browser. Things I've checked already: URLs are good, they work fine when pasted manually into Chrome, IE, or Firefox. IE is not set to Work Offline (already found that suggestion on Google). I checked Program Access and Defaults and verified that Chrome is selected. Nothing in the URL requires URLEncoding, so it's no goofy issue with encoding I've had reports from some other users now and then about the same problem, but this is the first time I've experienced it myself.

• When using grep from VIM, how to jump to results?

  When using the grep plugin to VIM, I can search the current directory for all occurrences of a string within a set of files, like this: :grep Ryan *.txt This outputs something like this: file1.txt:3:Ryan was here file2.txt:10:Ryan likes VIM file3.txt:5:superuser.com is a fav of Ryan (1 of 3): Ryan was here Press ENTER or type command to continue If I press enter, it just takes me back to my editor. What I really want to do is be able to open up one of those files and jump to the place where the string was found. Is there a way to do this? The 1 of 3 part makes me think there's a way to tab through the results, but I don't know what commands are available to me. Can anybody shed some light on this?

• VM can’t connect to outside in bridged mode

  Hi Guys, I am not able to ping any machine(not even the host) from Guest VM in bridged mode. But I got an IP which is on the same subnet as host. I can ping my guest VM from the host and can use ssh to connect to the guest. I am using Vmware workstation 6.5. Guest VM is a centos VM and host is windows xp. Every thing works fine in NAT mode. Any clues as to what could be happening. I tried disabling all the firewalls I have. My virtual network editor shows that my ethernet adapter(the one my host uses) is used for bridging. It is connected. I don't understand how I can get an IP address from DHCP server. I can't ping any of the DNS servers in generated /etc/resolv.conf which are the same as that of my host

• Help changing MAC address in Windows 7 [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Change MAC Address I need to change the MAC address of my wireless adapter in Windows 7 (Ultimate RTM). I used to do this in XP both directly in the registry editor and with a .REG file I wrote. I have used each of these methods in Windows 7, as well as a few tools I found that are supposed to do this. Every time I change it, I disable and re-enable the network adapter in control panel, but upon running ipconfig /all it still shows my old MAC address. Any help? By the way, I do have Administrative Rights and UAC turned off.

• How do special folders work on Windows 7?

  Hello, I did something silly and accidentally moved my my special folders (My Documents, My Music etc.) to the Desktop. Once I noticed my mistake I quickly moved them back. But now my System acts erratically. It continuously creates new empty folders on my Desktop. And I have now two folders named "My Pictures" in my home directory. One of which is magically linked to the one in Desktop while on the command line one one is actually visible. If I delete the superfluous folders on Desktop then the explorer crashes. It is all a big mess. Of course I checked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\User Shell Folders and it looks all ok there. So here the question: As anybody got any informations on how Windows 7 handles the special folders which might help be clean up the mess? I am well versed in using both the command line or the registry editor.

• Recovering portion(s) of file with CRC (cyclic redundancy check) errors in Robocopy

  Is it possible to recover portions of files with CRC errors? If so, how? I have a partially damaged hard drive (2.5" SATA) that I have partially recovered using Spinrite 6.0 (took 2 weeks to run!). I have been successful in getting many of the files off of the drive using Robocopy . /V /S /E /COPY:DAT /R:1 /W:0, but some of the files get to +/- 90% in Robocopy and then fail with a CRC Data Error (cyclic redundancy check). I am wondering if it is possible to recover the first 90% of the file and try to recover it in a text editor. 1.0% ... 91.0% 91.1% 2010/06/14 18:21:13 ERROR 23 (0x00000017) Copying File F:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mailbox Folder.dbx Data error (cyclic redundancy check). • Puppet and Vim fighting over Ruby version

  I have installed puppet from the .dmg from puppetlabs. If I remove ruby 1.9.3, puppet works, but other things like my vim install (dependant plugins) do not. According to http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/platforms.html#ruby-versions 1.9.3 is supported. • How can I use the Homebrew Python with Homebrew MacVim on Mountain Lion?

  I originally asked and answered this question: How can I use the Homebrew Python version with Homebrew MacVim? These instructions worked on Snow Leopard using Xcode 4.0.1 and associated developer tools. However, they no longer seem to work on Mountain Lion with Xcode 4.4.1. My goal is to leave the system's version of Python completely untouched, and to only install PyPI packages into Homebrew's site-packages directory. I want to use the vim_bridge package in MacVim, so I need to compile MacVim against the Homebrew version of Python. I've edited the MacVim formula to add these to the arguments: --enable-pythoninterp=dynamic --with-python-config-dir=/usr/local/Cellar/python/2.7.3/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/Current/lib/python2.7/config Then I install with the command: brew install macvim --override-system-vim --custom-icons --with-cscope --with-lua However, it still seems to be somehow using Python 2.7.2 from the system. I have one share definition for 3 client (A,B,C) This share contain some excel file which having a lot of formula and linked each other. Client A access the file with libre office (ubuntu), client B access with WinXP & MS Office 2003, The write and read process working successfuly on Both of them. The problem occur when client C accessing the same file with MS Excel 2003 (windows xp). • OSX: Selecting default application for all unknown and different file types (extensions)

  I work in cluster computing and am using Mac OS X 10.6. I send off hundreds of computing jobs a day, and each one comes back with with a different extension. For example, svmGeneSelect.o12345 which is the std output of my svmGeneSelect job which is job number 12345. I don't control the extensions. All files are plain text. I want OSX to open any file extension that it hasn't seen before with my favorite text editor when I click on it. Or even better set up file association defaults for extension patterns ie textEdit for extensions matching *.o*. I do NOT want to create file associations for individual files since this extension will only ever exist once, and I do not want to go through the process of selecting the application to use for each file. What I had done was Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout] "Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,1d,00,3a,00,00,00,00,00 Windows 8.1 may have changed how it interprets the keyboard layout registry, I'm guessing. I'm an avid emacs user, so this problem is a life-or-death scenario for me.

  I have a (text) file containing a list of web site addresses. I know that I can open the file in an editor and then copy-paste the addresses to the browser address bar. That means, if I have ten addresses in that file, I will need ten copy-paste operations, which must be tedious. But is there a way to ask the browser (preferably Google Chrome or Firefox) to open all of them in one go in different tabs? I am using Ubuntu, if that is related in any way to the solution you provide.

• Internet connection sharing: Ubuntu 9.10 Server on Windows 7 and VMWare

  I'm trying to get Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) working between my Windows 7 RTM host and a Ubuntu 9.10 Server running on VMWare Workstation 6.5, but I have not been able to get it right. Here's what I have done: Configured VMWare to use Host Only networking (I tried NAT as well). Enabled ICS on my host's network connection, allowing VMnet1. After enabling it, Windows informed me that its VMnet1 IP has changed to 192.168.137.1. So in VMWare's Virtual Network Editor I configured VMnet1: Subnet 192.168.137.0 Mask 255.255.255.0 I did the same for DHCP. For NAT i set 192.168.137.1 as Gateway. I cannot ping any sites or get access through apt-get/aptitude install/update, although domains do get resolved to IPs. I have also tried using a static IP in Ubuntu. I don't know if it makes a difference, but my external IP is locked to my host's MAC address.

I have used KiKS (in MATLAB for simulating Khepera robots), MobotSim (in Windows, simulates a point like robot using a BASIC editor) and Player/Stage (with C/C++ on Ubuntu 9.04). My question, can MS Robotics Studio be installed in Ubuntu Linux using Wine (I am using 1.1.31) ? Has anyone done it ? Any other way to install MS Robotics Studio in Unix (Any flavour) ?   Is there a way to remove windows line endings on a basic windows 7 install. I'm working on a windows 7 computer with notepad and word 2010 at work. I'm trying to demo markdown without installing additional text editor, and keeping it installed locally. I've tried Word with replace on \r\n, special characters and other ways and it can't locate. Notepad same issue. Or is there a markdown converter that an online markdown converter that will handle windows line endings?

• How do I create a VBA macro that will copy data from an entry sheet, into a summary sheet by date

  I'm trying to create a macro that will copy data from a data entry sheet into a summary sheet. The entry sheet is going to be cleared daily so I can't use a formula just to reference it. I want the user to be able to enter a date, run a macro, and have the macro copy the data from the entry sheet into the cells for the corresponding date on the summary sheet. I've looked around and found bits and pieces of how to do this but I can't put it all together. Update: Thanks to the information below I was able to find some additional data. I have a pretty crude macro that works if the user manually selects the correct cell. Now I just need to figure out how to automatically select the current cell relative to the current date. • Scripts on UNC paths take very long to run

  I have several scripts in UNC paths (from Windows batch files to PHP scripts). No matter how I run them (double click on explorer, my editor's run command menu or Windows command prompt) they take really long to start running (like 14 seconds). Once they get started they run normally. This doesn't happen if I run them from mapped drives. I'm using Windows XP Professional SP3 inside an Active Directory domain and files are hosted in a Windows Server box (not sure about the version, it's an HP dedicated file server with bundled OS). Why does it happen? Is there a way to speed up things while using UNC paths?

• Unable to write into character device file in Ubuntu

  I just written a linux character driver. I created one character device file named X. I can see that file in /dev folder. Now I want to do some read/write operation into this file. I opened the filed in VI editor and write some text into it. I used :wq and exited. It didn't show any error. Now when I do cat on that same file I am not able to see any content. I tried it several times. The same situation. Please let me know If I am doing something wrong....
