• Using "Show values as" option in Excel 2007 pivot table when source is SSAS cube?

  I have an Excel 2007 pivot table showing "Year" across the top and "Month" down the side. What I am trying to do is represent the values as "% Difference" from the same month of the previous year. (Ex. If Jan-07 is $100,000 and Jan-08 is $120,000, I would like Jan-08 to show '20%'). However, every time I try to do this (using the "Show values as" tab of Value Field Settings) all of my numbers go to '#N/A'. Is there a way to do this using an Analysis Services cube as the data source? When I do this exact same thing using data on a different sheet as the data source for the pivot table, it works fine. Thanks in advance for any insight into this.

  Hey all, I am trying to find a tool that can highlight code changes in Visual Studio so they can be easily found and reviewed. Below are some requirements for what we are looking for... Identify and use a difference highlighting tool that meets the following criteria: • can highlight areas that need to be reviewed • there is a place to enter comments • retains line numbering from code • preference for doing within IDE Issue addressed: Hard to see what was changed in code - changes not identified. Coders do not provide administrators diffs. No tool that does a nice job to identify differences. Daunting/time consuming to provide a good diff. When highlighting differences was provided, loss of line numbers was a substantial issue (was worse).

• Setting a cell's format using Excel 2007 Interop and C#

  I'm using the office 2007 interop assemblies to create some excel spreadsheets. There are plenty of questions on here about getting started and MSDN contains heaps of articles, like this one. The API is funky, and sometimes a bit confusing. When I set a value of a cell, is there a way to set it's format? I'd like to mark particular fields as Date's so my customer can run excel macros on them. Also, numbers would be useful. Thanks!

• Can django's auth_user.username be varchar(75)? How could that be done?

  Is there anything wrong with running alter table on auth_user to make username be varchar(75) so it can fit an email? What does that break if anything? If you were to change auth_user.username to be varchar(75) where would you need to modify django? Is it simply a matter of changing 30 to 75 in the source code?: username = models.CharField(_('username'), max_length=30, unique=True, help_text=_("Required. 30 characters or fewer. Letters, numbers and @/./+/-/_ characters")) Or is there other validation on this field that would have to be changed or any other repercussions to doing so?   We have WPF based application using Prism Framework. We have embedded IronPython and using Python Unit Test framework to automate our application GUI testing. It works very well. We have difficulties in comparing two float numbers. Example class MyClass { public object Value { get; set;} public MyClass() { Value = (float) 12.345; } } In IronPython When I compare the MyClass Instance's Value property with python float value(12.345), it says it doesn't equal This statement raises assert error self.assertEqual(myClassInstance.Value, 12.345) This statement works fine. self.assertEqual(float(myClassInstance.Value.ToString()), 12.345) When I check the type of the type(myClassInstance.Value), it returns Single in Python where as type(12.345) returns float. How to handle the C# float to Python comparison without explicit conversions?

There are many plugins that support degrading the javascript to browsers that dont have javascript enabled and techniques to support this. What are peoples thoughts on javascript support, we build applications rather than just websites and are looking to just support javascript enabled browsers as a pre-requisite assuming that most people or companies have javascript enabled. Do you find most people have javascript? do you monitor the percentage of javascript/non-javascript browsers (I guess this can be done with website stats) and what are the numbers regarding this?

  OK, I know, there are literally dozens of already available syntax highlighters out there. But I want one specifically, that implements line numbers through <ol/> lists. And that reduces the number of possible candidates to one, Lighter.js. Unfortunately, that is MooTools based, and since I decided some time ago to use jQuery, I don't want to embed yet another library just for syntax highlighting. The SyntaxHighlighter does something similar, but uses tables for the line numbering, and I don't want to hack it, if there is an already available tool, too.

  I'm having difficulty to understand the logic behind the method to find the second highest number in array. The method used is to find the highest in the array but less than the previous highest (which has already been found). The thing that I still can't figure it out is why || highest_score == second_highest is necessary. For example I input three numbers: 98, 56, 3. Without it, both highest and second highest would be 98.   hey , I'm trying to change an AJAX accordion layout on the client-side. How can I make it so that when the page loads, the selected pane is opened? At the moment, I have this: Sys.require(Sys.components.accordion, function() { $("#accordion").accordion({ HeaderCssClass: "acc_header", HeaderSelectedCssClass: "acc_selectedheader", FadeTransitions: true, requireOpenedPane: false }); }); This works. However, if I add SelectedIndex = 1, it still starts off with the top pane opened and everything else closed. I tried change the 1 to other numbers (including -1), but it doesn't make a difference. Have I missed something here? (It's placed in an updatepanel, if that makes a difference) Thanks

  Hello, I need to subtract 0.5 from number a and set the answer to number b. My code looks like it would work but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The error I get Is on the subtraction line, the error says incompatible type for argument 1 of 'decimalNumberBySubtracting:'. • Restlet/Jackson works differently when object implements Serializable

  I am sending an object with some primitive fields using Restlet with Jackson converter. Up until now it worked great. But then I needed my object to implement Serializable, because I need to store it in memcache of GAE. For some reason - when the class implements Serializable, things stop working. Restlet sends a different string representation from before, and I can't even print that string in the server. I tried printing its byte value, char-by-char and the first numbers are: 0xfffd 0xfffd 0x0000 0x0005 0x0073 0x0072 Thanks a lot!

  Premise: This Wikipedia page suggests that the computational complexity of Schoolbook long division is O(n^2). Deduction: Instead of taking "Two n-digit numbers", if I take one n-digit number and one m-digit number, then the complexity would be O(n*m). Contradiction: Suppose you divide 100000000 (n digits) by 1000 (m digits), you get 100000, which takes six steps to arrive at. Now, if you divide 100000000 (n digits) by 10000 (m digits), you get 10000 . Now this takes only five steps. Conclusion: So, it seems that the order of computation should be something like O(n/m). Question: Who is wrong, me or Wikipedia, and where?

• Mixing a4 and a3 in one Latex file

  Hello, I am finishing my thesis and have a large appendix. Some tables only look good, if first done on a3 and then (paper)printed on a4. Anyhow, working all the files seperalty is fine, but I struggle to compile all in one. I use the geometry package and start the document with: \usepackage[a4paper,left=30mm,right=20mm,top=20mm, bottom=20mm]{geometry} For the appendix, I want to include the table and use \newgeometry{a3paper,left=25mm,right=15mm, top=15mm, bottom=15mm} However, the command is completely ignored and I can read "a3paper,left=25mm,right=15mm, top=15mm, bottom=15mm" above the table. What did I miss? Is it even possible? If not, how do I get the numbers right, if I have to include it as a pdf (which works)? Thanks!

• Windows Disk I/O Analysis

  It appears that we are having a problem with the disk i/o speed on our Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition server (64-bit). As we were initializing a database that created two 1G tablespaces on 3 different machines, it became obvious that the two smaller machines (each 32-bit Windows 2003 Standard Edition with less RAM) killed the larger machine when creating the files. The larger machine took 10x as long to create the tablespaces than did the other machines. Now, I am left wondering how that could be. What programs or scripts would you guys recommend for tracking down the I/O problem? I think the issue may be with the controller card (all boxes are hardware RAID 10, but have different controller cards), but I would like to check the actual disk I/O speed as well, so I have some hard numbers to work with. Any help would be appreciated.

  Hello! I'm developing a Genetic Algorithm in python were chromosomes are composed of strings and integers. To apply the genetic operations, I want to convert these groups of integers and strings into bit strings. For example, if one chromosome is: ["Hello", 4, "anotherString"] I'd like it to become something like: 0100100100101001010011110011 (this is not actual translation). So... How can I do this? Chromosomes will contain the same amount of strings and integers, but this numbers can vary from one algorithm run to another. To be clear, what I want to obtain is the bit representation of each element in the chromosome concatenated. If you think this would not be the best way to apply genetic operators (such as mutation and simple crossover) just tell me! I'm open to new ideas. Thanks a lot! Manuel

• Using 'load' in octave

  Is there a way to tell the load function to only load until a certain line? I want to read in a data file and assign the numbers to an array, however, I want it to stop after it has created a 200 X 200. Could I also do this with a do-while loop and fgetl? When I try to use fgetl(fid, len) and give it 'len', it does not obey :-/ How can I tell octave to ignore the comment lines in an input file? They are '#' characters, so I figured octave would just automatically ignore them, but not so... Thanks.

• What's the best way to normalize scores for ranking things?

  hi all, I'm curious how to do normalizing of numbers for a ranking algorithm let's say I want to rank a link based on importance and I have two columns to work with so a table would look like url | comments | views now I want to rank comments higher than views so I would first think to do comments*3 or something to weight it, however if there is a large view number like 40,000 and only 4 comments then the comments weight gets dropped out. So I'm thinking I have to normalize those scores down to a more equal playing field before I can weight them. Any ideas or pointers to how that's usually done? thanks

• Java: confirm method Binary division and find remainder is correct?

  I am parsing binary files and have to implement a CRC algorithm to ensure the file is not corrupted. Problem is that I can't seem to get the binary math working when using larger numbers. The example I'm trying to get working: BigInteger G = new BigInteger("11001", 2); BigInteger M = new BigInteger("1110010000", 2); BigInteger R = M.remainder(G); I am expecting: R = "0101" But I am getting: R = "1100" I am assuming the remainder of 0101 is correct since it is given to me in this book I am using as a reference for the CRC algorithm (it's not based in Java), but I can't seem to get it working. I can get small binary calculations to work that I have solved by hand, but not the larger ones. I'll admit that I haven't worked the larger ones by hand yet, that is my next step, but I wanted to see if someone could point out a glaring flaw I have in my code. Can anyone confirm or deny that my methodology is correct? Thanks

• Most efficient way to extract bit flags

  I have these possible bit flags. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 64, 128, 256, 512, 2048, 4096, 16384, 32768, 65536 So each number is like a true/false statement on the server side. So if the first 3 items, and only the first 3 items are marked "true" on the server side, the web service will return a 7. Or if all 14 items above are true, I would still get a single number back from the web service which is is the sum of all those numbers. What is the best way to handle the number I get back to find out which items are marked as "true"?
