  • Invert a string: Recursion vs iteration in javascript

    Hi all, one month ago I've been interviewed by some google PTO members. One of the questions was: Invert a string recursively in js and explain the running time by big O notation this was my solution: function invert(s){ return (s.length > 1) ? s.charAt(s.length-1)+invert(s.substring(0,s.length-1)) : s; } Pretty simple, I think. And, about the big-o notation, I quickly answered O(n) as the running time depends linearly on the input. - Silence - and then, he asked me, what are the differences in terms of running time if you implement it by iteration? I replied that sometimes the compiler "translate" the recursion into iteration (some programming language course memories) so there are no differences about iteration and recursion in this case. Btw since I had no feedback about this particular question, and the interviewer didn't answer "ok" or "nope", I'd like to know if you maybe agree with me or if you can explain me whether there could be differences about the 2 kind of implementations.   • Proper way to format date from database using javascript/jquery

    Hi all, I am calling my database which contains a datetime datatype. The date looks like this: 2005-05-23 16:06:00.000 I would like to display this in a table when a user selects a certain item from a list. I call my controller action and return Json of all the times and put them in a table. The problem is the date is completely wrong. What is displayed is this: /Date(1255470180000)/ The date that is returned isn't even parsable (which I don't want to do anyway) so I can't even get the data if I wanted to. Any ideas?

    I'm trying to determine when I've scrolled to the bottom of the page (without using any JS library), but so far, I'm a bit confused over which one of the following to use. The most promising one I've seen is window.scrollY, but even when scrolled to the bottom of the page, it never matches the value of window.innerHeight.   • Eclipse Javascript code assist problem in using WTP

    Hi, I'm new to WTP so excuse me if the solution to this is obvious. When i define and use a class from within the same file i get nice code assist help, i also get code assist for classes from the standard libraries. Unortunatly, when i try to use code and declarations from one file in another file i no longer get t he nice code assist features. I have searched the web and tried a couple of things, making shoure JS is enabled for the project, making sure the folder the scripts are in is added to the JS source folder list and even trying making a new folder with the decleration files in and adding it as a library. I would really like ot get this feature working so any help would be appreciated.

For example, I can set a style to e.srcElement But, how can I later access this element to (for example) reset its style ? And how can I know at which place in the dom tree it is ?     I am trying to customize a view-src bookmarklet for iPad. This one is looking pretty good so far. But I want to make it just a little more readable: The Courier (New) font is a bit ugly even (especially?) on the retina display and I'd prefer any one of DejaVu Sans Mono, Monaco, Lucida Console, Bitstream Vera Sans Mono. I tried to modify the bookmarklet script by adding: pre.style.fontFamily = '"DejaVu Sans Mono", "Lucida Console", Monaco;'; It's not doing the trick. Perhaps prettyprint cancels out my fontFamily setting when it loads. Maybe I can set it at the end of the script somehow...

What is the best way to pass test to the callback function so the alert(test); will display test correctly?

    I let a user reconfigure the location of a set of rows in a table by giving them ability to move them up and down. The changes are done by swapping nodes in the DOM. After the user has moved rows around, when I do a view source, I see the HTML in the original state (before the user made any changes). Can someone explain why that is? My understanding was when we do any DOM operations, the underlying HTML will be changed as well. EDIT: Does that mean on the server side, when attempt to get the state after user's changes, I will be able to get what I need? I am using C#/ASP.NET. Could it be because this is a HTML table (not ASP.NET Server control), that it's not maintaining the state of the changes?

    Hi all I have a div that I would like to reposition each time the page is refreshed. It is currently set in the css using top and left. I wold like to pass the top and left values on page refresh. #inneriframe { position:absolute; top:-170px; left:-5px; width:1280px; height:1200px; } The content is from another site and contained in an iframe and I want the viewport of the div to change(within certain limits) each time the page is refreshed.   • Finding the closest grid coordinate to the mouse onclick with javascript/jQuery

    What I'm trying to do is make a grid of invisible coordinates on the page equally spaced. I then want a <div> to be placed at whatever grid coordinate is closest to the pointer when onclick is triggered. Here's the rough idea: I have the tracking of the mouse coordinates and the placing of the <div> worked out fine. What I'm stuck with is how to approach the problem of the grid of coordinates. First of all, should I have all my coordinates in an array which I then compare my onclick coordinate to? Or seeing as my grid coordinates follow a rule, could I do something like finding out which coordinate that is a multiple of whatever my spacing is is closest to the onclick coordinate? And then, where do I start with working out which grid point coordinate is closest? What's the best way of going about it? Thanks!

  • Preserving CSS styles with Javascript

    Hey guys, I have a web service where people can edit their pages CSS, but I have a bar on the footer of that page that I want to make consistend on every page... People are, right now, able to "remove" it with CSS and I really didn't want to go and parse the CSS to remove rules related to that bar... Is there a way to preserve the styles or re-aply them after load to keep the bar always visible? Thanks in advanced!

I'm really confused. Why match always returns proper result?
