    For tree leaves in XML, when is it better to use attributes, and when is it better to use descendant nodes? For example, in the following XML document: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <savedGame> <links> <link rootTagName="zombies" packageName="zombie" /> <link rootTagName="ghosts" packageName="ghost" /> <link rootTagName="players" packageName="player" /> <link rootTagName="trees" packageName="tree" /> </links> <locations> <zombies> <zombie> <positionX>41</positionX> <positionY>100</positionY> </zombie> <zombie> <positionX>55</positionX> <positionY>56</positionY> </zombie> </zombies> <ghosts> <ghost> <positionX>11</positionX> <positionY>90</positionY> </ghost> </ghosts> </locations> </savedGame> The <link> tag has attributes, but it could also be written as: <link> <rootTagName>trees</rootTagName> <packageName>tree</packageName> </link> Similarly, the location tags could be written as: <zombie positionX="55" positionY="56" /> instead of: <zombie> <positionX>55</positionX> <positionY>56</positionY> </zombie> What reasons are there to prefer one over the other? Is it just a stylistic issue? Any performance considerations?

    My facebook application has a tab the user can install. On this tab, there is links that are suppose to link to application canvas (ex.: apps.facebook.com/my-app). It seems that when I'm on my user profile tab and click on a link, Facebook loads the page inside the tab. How do I force it to navigate out of the tab and into the canvas page?

    I'm trying to write a script in Greasemonkey that will replace a link's target with something else, but with my limited Javascript knowledge I don't really know how to do this. Basically I'm trying to find all links containing a certain string of characters (ex: //a[contains(@href, 'xx')] ), and either replace them with another link, or append something to them (replacing 'abc123.com' with 'zyx987.com' or 'abc123.com' with 'abc123.com/folder'). If you could point me on the right path I'd greatly appreciate it.

  • How do you composite an image onto another image with PIL in Python?

    I need to take an image and place it onto a new, generated white background in order for it to be converted into a downloadable desktop wallpaper. So the process would go: 1) Generate new, all white image with 1440x900 dimensions 2) Place existing image on top, centered 3) Save as single image In PIL, I see the ImageDraw object, but nothing indicates it can draw existing image data onto another image. Suggestions or links anyone can recommend?

  • How to create a static header that remains even when navigating to other pages (lala.com)

    I'm interested in the way lala.com works. They have a header that remains fixed at the top of the browser and they have a flash music player in it. You can click on other links in the site and they are displayed below the header but the header is not disrupted and can continue playing music. If the target is a modern browser say IE8 & FF 3.6, what's the best way to achieve this? Thanks for any help.

I have tried using css: #accordion a:focus { outline: none; } #accordion a:active {outline: none; font-weight:bold;} and also #accordion a:-moz-any-link:focus { outline: none; } None of these seem to work. Can anyone advise a setting or another option to remove the dotted outline around the active links?

One of the controls I am reworking is a collection of links. The issue I am having is that each link is coloured differently when moused over. One red, one blue, one green, etc. Is there a way to style these items without sacrificing the dynamics of using an items control with a data template?

    Given a repository served over HTTP whose owner forgot to chmod +x hooks/post-update, is there a workaround for cloning it? I tried running wget --mirror url, but rather than fetching the subtree only, it tried to mirror the entire site—which I assume happened due to the parent-directory links in the autogenerated index.html resources.
