  Hi! I want to embed some video into my HTML page. As background I want to use big picture. And above it I want to insert loop video with (i.e.) walking man. So, can I embed video (without flash and any player controls) in page? Can I decode video with transparent background? Is there any codecs which support transparent background (alpha-channel)?   How do I upload a file from a Java servlet to a location on a web server within Tomcat/webapps. I am using Commons upload. I have a location such as myserver:8080/myapp/mylocation where I want to put the files that are uploaded. I tried using getServletContext().getRealPath("/"); to find where I am and then appended that with mylocation but I get a nullpointer exception. I know I sound vague, it's because I am confused about the big picture, what are the generals steps I need to perform to make this work. Any code or links to code would be much appreciated.

• Create a view like Tweetie's User Profile view

  Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea on how you can create a view that looks like the user profile view in apps like Tweetie, where there are seemingly multiple tables with a couple of normal (straight up and down tables) and then two rows of six cells, which in Tweeties case have the number of followers, following etc. I'm trying to make a similar view for my app, but can't seem to find out the best way to create it. • how can c# help in drawing using memory layers concept?

  hello all i am facing problem in drawing dynamically in a picture box. i works very good when the drawing objects are few but as the drawing objects increases the response time of my GUI is getting worse and worse, my GUI works very well up to 90 drawing objects but i have to support more than 1000 so this technique didn't work for me. know i have decided to adopt layers mechanism, i mean i will draw different layers of drawing in memory and then XOR them to load the final image to my display. the question is "i Can play directly with memory do draw layers using C# (Examples needed?)" other ideas are also appreciated, (Drawing objects means the shapes line,circles etc. that i have to draw on my GUI) thanx in advance

• ASP.Net MVC null reference exception with TextArea name

  Hello, I have a TextArea html helper method I'm calling in a foreach loop. Basically, when I initially load the View it works fine, but when i reload the View and load postback data, the same TextArea throws a NullReferencException and yet the variable I'm using in the TextArea as the name of the TextArea is not null. I've attached a picture below for demonstration: Sorry if it's difficult to see, the blue arrow below is pointing to the variable used to name the TextArea. Again, it works on initial load, but it errors out on postback when the page is reloaded. I'm not sure what's going on.

  Hi SO community! I am drawing graphs into a WinForms Picturebox. Now I am searching for a possibility to 'duplicate' a line (an array of points), so that the two resulting lines are positioned a fixed distance away from the original one. Like in this picture, I have the red line and want to get the black ones: I thought about just moving the line a few pixels up/right/up-right, but that leads to strange overlapping lines. Is there any other approach that does what I want? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

• New to C/C++ Using Android NDK to port Legacy code, getting compile errors

  I have been trying to take some old Symbian C++ code over to Android today using the NDK. I have little to no C or C++ knowledge so its been a chore, however has to be done. My main issue is that I'm having trouble porting what I believe is Symbian specifi code to work using the small C/C++ subset that is available with the Android NDK. Here is a picture of the compilation errors I'm getting using cygwin I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on how to deal with these errors? For instance is TBool/Int/TUint/RPointerArray/RSocket a Symbian primitive and thats why it wont compile or is it something else? Also what is ISO C++? Any tutorials, guides or tips and help would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi, I'm creating a multi-tabbed .NET application that allows the user to dynamically add and remove tabs at runtime. When a new tab is added, a control is added to it (as a child), in which the contents can be edited (eg. a text box). The user can perform tasks on the currently visible text box using a toolbar/menu bar. To better explain this, look at the picture below to see an example of what I want to accomplish. It's just a mock-up, so it doesn't actually work that way, but it shows what I want to get done. Essentially, like a multi-tabbed Notepad.   Hello World! For an assignment at university we program in a pretty unknown language Modula 2, which lacks major graphic support. I was wondering how to achieve a 'transparency' effect on images, i figured it would work like this: Create a 2D array for the background area of the image filled with the colours of the different pixels in that area, create another 2D array of the image with again the colours of every picture and than merge the pixel colours and draw the different "new colours" on their appropriate place. What i was wondering about: how do i merge the colours (hexadecimals) just: ( colour1 + colour2 ) / 2 ? Thanks for your help!!

• When does innovative software development shows?

  I've been working as a software developer for almost a year (not much though) in a corporate environment but all I've done so far is a raw software implementation of company needs. Senior coworkers don't seem to be doing some fairly different stuff. In fact their "benefit" for being experienced is simply an app design and getting their hands on new projects first. My elder software developer friend's jobs don't seem to differ from the overall picture. Currently I'm a student of a CS department and what I really want to bring in this world is some innovative(not new but innovative) stuff that haven't been there. Something as great as google wave or JARVIS (if that can be done at all) or even much better, but yet it looked like that's not possible. The question is: when do people in a corporate environment choose to create something innovative? (from your experience/thoughts)

• Strange problem when converting RGB to HSV

  Hi, I made a small RGB to HSV converter algorithm with C. It seems to work pretty well, but there is one strange problem: If I first convert i.e. a 800x600 picture into HSV map and then back to RGB map without doing any changes in the values, I get some pixels that are convertet incorrectly. Then if I try to convert those misbehaving single pixels alone to and back, they're converted correctly. Any idea what could be the problem? I'm using Daniel Karlings PNGLite to open that PNG file. • Screen capture during testing

  This is an application for reviewing performance tests. Simple in concept, tricky to describe. Picture: 1) Recording interactions with a WPF program so the inputs can be played back. 2) Playing the inputs back while doing a continuous screen capture. 3) Capturing wall time as well as continuous CPU percentages during playback. 4) Repeating steps (2) and (3) lots of times. 5) Writing the relevant stuff out to files/db. 6) Reading it and putting it all in a fancy UI for easy review/analysis. The killer for me is (2). I could use some guidance on a good, possibly commercial, screen capture SDK. I would also welcome the news that my whole problem already has a solution. • Easy framework for OpenGL Shaders in C/C++

  I just wanted to try out some shaders on a flat image. Turns out that writing a C program, which just takes a picture as a texture and applies, let's say a gaussian blur, as a fragment shader on it is not that easy: You have to initialize OpenGL which are like 100 lines of code, then understanding the GLBuffers, etc.. Also to communicate with the windowing system one has to use GLUT which is another framework.. Turns out that Nvidia's Fx composer is nice to play with shaders.. But I still would like to have a simple C or C++ program which just applies a given fragment shader to an image and displays the result. Does anybody have an example or is there a framework?

• How to place caption (figure / table) into margin?

  I write thesis and need to put a lot of small pictures into it. I also need to use captions (with labels) for better navigation and referring to these pictures. In the same time I want to spare space and put captions beside (next to) pictures, in margin, like marginpar does. I tried sidecap package but it didn't work, neither mcaption package did help. Maybe using a minipage would solve it, but I would like also to align caption to the middle (vertical align) of picture. Any suggestions?

I got the tip that I could us the "after" function in that plugin to make changes to the picture each time the image is refreshed. • MVC without ORM is not real MVC?

  at the moment im integrating ORM (doctrine) into a MVC framework (codeigniter). then it hit me that this was the obvious way of setting up a MVC: the controller calls the models that are representing database tables. look at this picture: MVC + ORM then i wondered, how can a MVC without ORM be real MVC? cause then the models are not real objects, rather aggregations of different functions that perform CRUD, then returning the result to the controller. and there is no need for a state (object properties) i guess so the functions would be all static? correct me if im wrong on this one. i guess a lot of people are using models without ORM. please share your thoughts. how do your models look like?
