• XML/XSL Module 04.03.05 is now officially released.

  XML/XSL Module 04.03.05 is a maintenance release. Download is available from Codeplex. Changes were required to fix issues caused by conflicts with a new namespace in DotNetNuke 5.3. as the XML module did not use fully qualified namespaces everywhere. Please upgrade to XML 4.3.5 before upgrading your DNN version to 5.3.1 and above. In case you missed this step and the entire application runs into a Yellow Screen of Death, the easiest workaround is to simply delete ~\App_Code\XML\Handlers\download.vb....Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors?   I was reading a book about XP programming and about agile teams. While I was reading, I saw this scenario. I've never worked with a development team (just in school). So I would like what do you opine on this situation: Your boss has asked you to deliver software in a time that can only be possible to meet the project team asking if you want to work overtime without pay. All team members have young children. Discuss whether it should accept this request from your boss or should persuade the team to give their time to the organization rather than their families. What could be significant factors in the decision? As a programmer, you are offered an upgrade as project manager, but his feeling is that you can have a more effective contribution in a technical role in one administrative. Write when you should accept that promotion. Somethimes, I sacrifice my free time for accomplishing hits at work, so it's very important to me to know your opinion base of your experience.

• installing ubuntu 10.04 over top 11.04

  im looking to install 10.04 over top the 11.04 partition, it wouldnt let. keeps giving me a "root file system not found" error ever time i manually select partition. (i have a win7 partition) 11.04 popped up after upgrade that my hardware isnt supported for unity. and i cant boot into it, hangs up on purple screen right after boot menu. if anyone can post a link to a how to guide or put it on here, would be great? im trying to take advantage of my nvidia geforce gt 120m (its a laptop) to play around with cuda/c++ programming!

• Lubuntu 13.04 Resolution Issue du to ppa makson96

  I've installed Lubuntu 13.04 on my notebook. (It's the first time I use Lubuntu) I had graphical issue, apparently due to the graphic driver (ATI Radeon Xpress 1200) I followed this procedure to correct my problem : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install fglrx-legacy My graphical issue has been corrected but now it shows a low resolution (1024*768) and I can't change it. the xrandr result : xrandr: failed to get size of gamma output default Screen 0: minimum 1024x768, current 1027x768, maximum 1024x768 default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mmx0mm 1024x768 0.0* I've already read this topic but I don't really understand how things work there. I'd really appreciate your help ! Many thanks !

• 12.10 live dvd no video input

  Hi I have been trying install Ubuntu 12.10, but as soon as it gets past my bios and to the screen with the blinking line in the top left, I get a no video input message on my tv (like when you turn the tv on with nothing connected). I have used live dvd's of both betas, alphas and daily build all with exactly the same results. Has any one else had this ? Is there a fix ? Dose this mean I can never upgrade my Ubuntu again ? (12.04 works ive been using since beta) My pc ,while old, should run this fine CPU = 2x Intel P4 HT @ 3ghz GPU = Nvidia Geforce 310 via HDMI RAM = 2 Gb DDR 2 HDD = 2 x 7200 rpm SATA Please help me I use Ubuntu exclusively on my pc and would like to keep doings so.

• Closing lid does not suspend laptop

  I'm on a Lenovo T400 laptop. In the past I had suspend problems on every second version of Ubuntu (at least it feels like it), but in 11.04 it was working perfectly. Now, after the upgrade to 11.10 closing the laptop lid does no longer initialize suspension. When I choose 'Suspend' from the shutdown menu it works perfectly, so this does not seem to be an issue with suspend itself. The options in System Settings>Power are of course set to suspend in case of closing the lid (both for battery and AC poer). Note: I have no idea if this is of any importance, but I'm running the gnome-session-fallback stuff, as I just hate the Unity desgin.

  I work for a small software company (about 200 people building 8-10 applications) and I was hoping to get some advice on products that might be out there to manage the information of which clients are using which versions of our products? The most fundamental relationship would be that a "product" has "versions" and a given "version" is used by a "client." Uses would be: Determine which clients use which products Determine which clients are on which versions of a product Determine which clients are exposed to which vulnerabilities because of the version they use Determine which clients cannot move to a new version because of a vulnerability in the new version that they may hit Determine which clients should be approached for an upgrade Any thoughts or product reviews would be greatly appreciated! • New file in ubuntu kernel ppa repository to install?

  Googling this question hasn't brought me to anything so I decided to ask here. Recently I noticed on kernel.org that kernel 3.7 finally considered to be a stable so I decided to upgrade, since I am on 3.7 RC7 but when I opened http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.7.1-raring/ I noticed new file (actually 2 which seems to be identical) linux-headers-3.7.1-030701-omap_3.7.1-030701.201212171620_armhf.deb and linux-image-3.7.1-030701-omap_3.7.1-030701.201212171620_armhf.deb so my question is should I install those as well or continue installing only 4 files (e.g. 3 AMD64 image and headers + all headers)? Thank you.

• "apt-get --print-uris" to list URI for downloading extra functionality package for amarok,reqonk

  Hello I do not have internet connection at my home. So i use "apt-get --print-uris" to list the http's and take it to other PC with internet connection and use wget to download them. I am facing difficulty about how to list the http's that amarok will download from for the extra functionality (like mp3 codecs). KDE deamon is showing me that these packages are needed for extra functionality of amarok but i don't know how to list their http's. "apt-get --print-uris upgrade" does not list http's need for amarok/reqonk.

• Ubuntu 13.04/13.10 - low graphics mode/black screen after login

  Since last week, my Ubuntu 13.04 installation started booting up in low graphics mode out of nowhere. I tried a number of solutions found on this site but to no avail. The other night, I decided to upgrade to 13.10 to see if the issue would be fixed in the process. Since then, the system starts fine, but when I login to my account, I'm just presented with a black screen. I switched to the terminal and did any necessary updates, but to no avail. I don't even know where to start debugging this issue, so I'd appreciate if someone could point me towards the first place to start looking?

• Creating an install of Ubuntu to clone

  I work on a team with several other developers. We all have similar hardware and we all run at least the same base development software. We are wishing to upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 doing a clean install. I am looking for a way to do a base install of Ubuntu, including all our common applications, then clone it to each of the developers drives and then let them further customize their own install. Some considerations would be giving the developer the ability to have their own person id and not the same as which the base install was done with. I know they do this on VMware installs and corporate installs of Windows that can then be customized, but I have not seen this done with Ubuntu yet. Thanks

• Ubuntu 12.04 wont update or download from software center

  i have untunt 12.04lts and i wanted to download wine. when i tried it said this: "could not download packages. check your internet connection." but i am connected to the internet. i then went to upgrade my system to ubuntu 12.10 to see if that would work... but no it cant download packages... i can use the internet with firefox. and i have downloaded things before from the software center. Please Help ME. Dual booted with windows 7.

• Update Manager error 12.04

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.04. When attempting to run my Update Manager, it doesn't allow any of the updates to be loaded. Under "details" all it says is "patch". It won't even load anything when the Partial Upgrade option comes up. I thought that this Error in Update Manager would help me, but when I followed the instruction and looked for the "PUBKEY" in Terminal, there was none, it said "BADSIG" and "failed to fetch 11.10" instead and my Update Manager still doesn't update anything. I'm still new to the finer points of Ubuntu and could really use some advice. Did I do something wrong? Or I need to do a fresh install?

That's a whole lot of conversations! And we really, really value those conversations - they span almost every conceivable technical subject across hundreds of products and technologies. More often not - and this is by design - those discussions are stewarded by community volunteers, many of whom are Oracle ACEs (who in fact earned their ACE stripes that way). And so, I am very happy to tell you that we have just initiated a project with our platform partner, Jive Software, to upgrade that platform to the most current, modern version available. The end result should be a vastly improved user experience for everyone involved, in all dimensions.   I have never used Joomla before, so this might be a noobish question. I have tried searching, but haven't found anything relevant. I'm helping someone update & migrate their old website, built on the Joomla framework. Currently it is running on Joomla 1.5.8 which is an ancient version. I've convinced them to upgrade Joomla to atleast 2.5 I have already taken the database backup. Most links I have seen talk of backing up the entire public_html folder (The website runs on a shared host). But in my fresh Joomla installation there are several folders that are in the public_html folder. So which of the folders in the public_html folder are from the content of the website, and which are of the old Joomla framework? I'm afraid that I might overwrite files of the new Joomla framework with the old framework, if copy all the files and folders into the new installation.

• How to deal with "software end-of-life" situations?

  When a vendor declares that they no longer intend to provide any support or services to a piece of software (and stated the intent to exit the business - offering no upgrade paths), and stated that customers must pay a nominal fee in order to have the existing data exported, what kind of recourse do programmers/customers have? Things I can think of: Need to purchase spare hardware and set up a spare environment on which the software can continue to operate. Various data export methods which do not require vendor involvement. (For example, screen scraping, printing to image followed by re-scanning, etc) Parallel systems where staff will duplicate the old data into a new system manually or semi-automatically Legal means, in case the vendor is in financial trouble Any other ideas? Assuming that there is no "circumvention" involved (no DRM, no DMCA), is data recovery or reverse engineering legal/acceptable?

• Why is this happening with the wine menu?

  Some of the items in the Wine menu are given a prefix that is their entire path. The items that don't have the long prefix seem to work fine, but those that do, don't respond to the Properties button or double-click in the menu editor. They take a lot of space, and look ugly, but I can't rename them. I've tried editing their associated files, there doesn't appear to be anything different about them to the ones that are working fine. They weren't always like that - it just happened after an upgrade one day and it's been like that ever since.

• How to integrate Pidgin and Evolution into the message indicator?

  I upgraded to 12.10, I was using Unity 2d, but as it no longer exists I moved to gnome classic, something in the upgrade seems to have change the message indicator in the "Indicator Applet Complete". How do I integrate Pidgin and Evolution into the message indicator, there is only a button to launch Pidgin, but a new message does not change the colour of the icon or show up in the dropdown part. Also when minimizing Pidgin it minimizes like a normal window instead of minimizing to the applet. There is nothing in the menu for Evolution at all.
