  • What options do I have for a Wedding Car website? [on hold]

    I currently run a Wedding Car website that is ranking in the top 5 for my local area, its not doing so well outside of that. I have listed the company in Google Business so it shows in the SERP and I have a Facebook and Twitter account linked, that I update regularly. I know keeping content fresh is important but nothing much changes so I am unsure what options I have? Should I create a blog and talk about the cars, weddings etc? I am totally unsure where to go with this website, the site currently has a few images and a small amount of text. Things I am considering, but would like advice on: A Mobile version of the website A Blog on the website A gallery page with pictures and descriptions Asking local companies to link to my website Essentially I have a small business website but not much content, because really there isnt! I am looking for long term organic ways to get a good seo rank.

    I am trying to get an understanding of Inversion of Control and the dos and donts of this. Of all the articles I read, there is one by Mark Seemann (which is widely linked to in SO) which strongly asks folks not to use the service locator pattern. Then somewhere along the way, I came across this article by Ken where he helps us build our own IoC. I noticed that is is nothing but an implementation of service locator pattern. Questions: Is my observation correct that this implementation is the service locator pattern? If the answer to 1. is yes, then Do all IoC containers (like Autofac) use the service locator pattern? If the answer to 1. is no, then why is this differen? Is there any other pattern (other than DI) for inversion of control?

  • Missed question in technical phone interview and the follow up letter

    I may have just bombed a C++ technical phone interview. The interviewer asked mostly about data structures and I was able to go into detail about each of the data structures he asked about. Score one for me I'm thinking. Wrong. Then he asks to join me on a collaboration website where he can see what I am typing. This was the same process as interview #1 which went well, not perfect, but well. So the question was: How do you reverse a linked list? he gave a function prototype similar to Node *reverse(Node *head) I struggled with this for about 10-15 minutes until the hour was up. I was able to get the general idea across but was not able to reverse the link list. My question is that after remembering the answer post interview do I mention this in the thank you letter, if I even should write one?

  • Increasing Ubuntu (12.04) partition size

    I'm running a dual boot Windows XP/Ubuntu system, and I'd like to increase the size of the Ubuntu partition at the expense of the Windows partition. I've already shrunk the Windows partition, creating a large unallocated space between the Windows and Ubuntu partitions (See linked GParted screenshot). http://s17.postimage.org/5ppnrrnot/GParted.png I'd like to move my Ubuntu partition to the start of the unallocated space, and then increase its size to encompass all of the unallocated space. Once I try and move it (Using the GParted live cd), it tells me to expect big GRUB issues since I'm moving my Ubuntu partition's start sector. What is it that I should expect, and how do I handle it?     I'm trying to remove LXDE from my 12.04 system. I've tried running the following commands (as root from a terminal): apt-get remove lxde apt-get purge lxde apt-get autoremove I've also tried a rather lengthy command that was linked to from another question. However, when I log in, LXDE is still presented as an environment choice, and it still functions perfectly well, as if I've done nothing. I ran the above commands again, but got the following message: package . . . is not installed, so not removed. So, where do I go from here, short of re-installing Ubuntu and all my programs?

    How do I report a problem with the Ubuntu Guide website? http://ubuntuguide.org/images/UbuntuGuideSaucyPt1.epub is linked from http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Saucy_Repositories under 'eBook Version' above the list of contents at top of page,. However, that link is 404'd. Also tried http://ubuntuguide.org/images/UbuntuGuideSaucy.epub which also fails. So, where do we report Fail at ubuntuguide.org? I see nowhere there to so do. I have also tried, twice on separate days, to register there, but never get the confirmation email. Anyone have a suggestion?

The application stops and we have to restart IIS or the server to continue the job (the number of users is less then 50). We have no error message.     I'm considering writing a mobile game and looking at distribution. The game will have a server requirement, which means I will have to pay for bandwidth, hosting, processor time, etc. Because of that I'll need to make at least a little money off this thing. According to the press piracy is rampant in the android community. To get around this, I'm thinking of implementing a simple model where the game is free, perhaps allowing play for X number of turns or something, and then requiring an in-app purchase to continue to play. I would clearly explain this in the app description, and the in-app purchase would be managed per account so it would be linked to your google play account so you wouldn't have to re-purchase every time you get a new device. Would gamers accept this model or see it as unreasonable?

I've recently put a fairly complex "filter" into place which searches my content for mentions of fish species profiles and turns them into an active link. As such, I'm using /?p=1703 or whatever the ID is. What I'd like to know is: how much will this affect my SEO rating/ranking? Will it be detrimental if I don't rewrite the function?     I have a very simple working console application written in C++ linked with a light static library. It is just for testing purposes. Now that the coding part is done, I would like to know the process of actually distributing the program. I wrote a very basic CMakeLists.txt that create makefiles or VS projects to build the sources. I also have a program that calls the static library in order to make some google tests. To me, the distribution of this application goes like this : to developpers : the src directory with the CMakeLists.txt file (multi-platform distribution) with a README.txt and an INSTALL.txt to users : the executable and a README.txt on my git repo : everything mentionned above plus the sources for testing and the gtest external lib A this point : considering the complexity of my application, am I doing it right ? Is there any reference that would formalize this distribution process so I can get better and go further ? Say I would like to add dynamic libraries that can be updated, external libraries like boost : how should I package this to distribute it in a professionnal way ?

    With the recent redesign of delicious.com, they've added a much more graphical home page. The site continues to be a service for people to bookmark and share websites they come across on the web. The delicious home is now made up of images taken from those linked sites. See for yourself at http://delicious.com I would like to know what in the law allows them to do this, considering the images represent the main content of the page, and they clearly do not own copyright to those images? I know there is some leeway given to search engines where it is considered fair use to use a small portion of the content if the aim is to lead people to the originating site. Does that apply here?

I want both domains to co-exist, they share most of the same content, but they differ in design and they are aimed at different markets / rivaling communities.     I was poking around the AdventureWorks database today and I noticed that a number of tables (HumanResources.JobCandidate and Sales.Individual for example) have a column which is storing xml data. What I would to know is, what is the advantage of storing basically a database table row's worth of data in another table's column? Doesn't this make it difficult to query off of this information? Or is the assumption that the data won't need to be queried and just needs to be stored?
