• Mapped network drive connection timeout

  I have server "Alpha" and server "Beta". Server Beta has a shared folder, that is mapped on server Alpha as "X:" On server Alpha there is a .vbs script that runs and take some files on local drive and copy them on X: drive. My issue is if no user log on server Alpha for a long time, it seems like the tcp connection underneath the mapped drive has a timeout, and the vbs script fails on the copy of file. As soon I log with remote desktop on Alpha server, the .vbs is successfull on the copy of the files. I have made many tests, using file logs to check what was happening and I found no way to refresh the connection and let the .vbs be able to copy files unattended.. I have always to log with remote desktop on Alpha server to refresh the connection and let the .vbs copy the files without issues. What can I do to avoid to log every time? The .vbs script runs 3 times a day and is very annoying. I do not have control over server Beta so I cannot change anything there, and I am very limited on changes I can do on server Alpha ( I cannot change registry and that sort of things)

• Windows 7 Taskbar resets on every login

  I like to reorder my Taskbar a bit, other than the Windows 7 default is. I use two "rows", the lower is for quicklaunch and other toolbars: This works perfectly, as long as I don't log off from the computer. Every time I log in, Windows 7 has messed up/reset the toolbar positions like this: So I have to drag them into position again and again, every morning. Fixing the taskbar positions won't help, I tried to google for the problem but it does not seem to be very common. Does anyone recognize that problem and has a solution? Update: This is not the AutoLogon bug. AutoLogon is off. We have installed Novell at our company, and it does not matter wether I log directly onto the Novell network or only to the computer first and to Novell later. Update2: I get the same issue when I logon without Novell, i.e. when I log on only to the computer. When I boot in safe mode, the taskbar looks essentially the same: Update3: KB979155 says it's "not applicable to my system". Creating a neew user is not an option since I don't have the admin privileges to do that - I have almost any other local admin privileges, though.

• iptables rule on INPUT between 2 ethernet cards on the same host

  I have 2 eth cards on the same host. Both connected directly with LAN cable. I set eth0 with ip - 192.168.1.2 I set eth1 with ip - 192.168.1.1 I set this rule: iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -j NFQUEUE --queue-num 0 There are no other rules. (I ran iptables -X,-F) I send TCP syn packet ( with c++ program by using raw socket) from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.1 In wireshark i see that the packet received on eth0, but the iptables rule (above) dosnt apply for this packet. when i sent the packet to remote host and apply this rule on the remote host than it work correct. So, i guess that this is due to the fact that both eth cards exists the same host. . I need to create iptables INPUT rule for local eth card (dest and src on the same machine ). I need it for simplify test. Did i guess the problem correct? is there a way to bypass this? Ps - connected them via switch didn't help. the rule wasn't applied. Run on Ubuntu. • Must have local user to authenticate Samba to AD?

  I've got a CentOS 5.3 server with Samba running. I've joined this server to my domain in the hopes of allowing AD users some access to my Samba shares. I've found that this works, but only as long as the AD username that I'm trying to authenticate with is also a local user on the server. In other words, if I'm trying to access a share, and try to authenticate with the AD username "joe", I get errors unless I create a user named 'joe' on the server. I don't have to create a matching password or anything....the local user's password is always blank, so I do know that the authentication is actually happening against the AD. Here's my smb.conf file: [global] workgroup = <mydomain> server string = <snip> netbios name = HOME security = ADS realm = <mydomain.com> password server = <snip> auth methods = winbind log level = 1 log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log [amore] path = /var/www/amore browseable = yes writable = yes valid users = DOMAIN\user1 DOMAIN\user2 DOMAIN\user3 DOMAIN\user4 I would assume that my kerberos settings are fine, as I've joined the domain and can use wbinfo to see users and groups. • Server 2008 R2 boot is at 2 hours and counting. What now?

  This morning, we rebooted our Server 2008 R2 box. No problem, came right back up. Then we shut it down and let it install windows updates. While it was off, we added some RAM. Then we turned it back on. The system came right back up to the "press ctrl-alt-delete" screen, so far, so good. I logged in. The system got as far as "Applying Group Policy" -- then spent almost an hour applying drive mappings. Finally finished that, and has now spent 30 minutes on waiting for the Event Notification Service. I still haven't been able to log in. Remote desktop service doesn't appear to be running yet. I tried viewing the event log from another machine. I see that the box is writing to the Security log, but there are no events in System or Application in the last 45 minutes. Digging through the System log of events from 45 minutes ago, I see a bunch of timeouts: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the ShellHWDetection service. [lots of these] A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the wuauserv service. A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the SessionEnv service. A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the Schedule service. A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the CertPropSvc service. What can I do? Should I try shutting it down remotely, or will that do more damage?

• Restore a database with LDF file only

  First of all, i know how stupid it is not to have a any backup. I can't help it, but i have to (try) to solve it. I have a transaction log (LDF) file from a SQL Server 2000 database that contains all transactions since the creation of the database. No truncation has been done. The MDF file is gone. Probably because of some disk failure. There is no backup. Not from the original database and not from the transaction log. I have tried to link the transaction log to a new clean database. But (ofcourse) that failed because SQL Server checks the identity of both files. I have read about software that can read the transaction log. ApexSQL seems to do that. I tried to install the trial version but it gives weird errors when trying to start the program. Anyone knows a solution for me? It may contain third party software, but i prefer a clean SQL Server solution.

• OpenVPN - Cannot browse ipv4 websites

  I have set up an openVPN tunnel on my VPS (OpenVZ - Ubuntu 12.04). The problem is I can only browse websites which support ipv6 like google. http://whatismyv6.com/ reports me that I've an ipv6 adress, so I guess this is the problem. • Proxypass issue in apache

  I am reverse proxying one site to another site. It's working nicely, but on some links it displays the original link. When I click on "about-us" it takes me to "http://test.mysite.com/about-us" which is ok When I click on "inquiry" it takes me to "http://mysite.com/inquiry" which is not correct it must be "http://test.mysite.com/inquiry". I think I've missed some thing to add in configuration file but I can't figure it out.

• Windows 7 automatically logs out when logging in

  A Windows 7 HP x64 computer is set to automatically log in (no password), but once it starts logging in, it starts to load the desktop after the welcome screen, but before icons or background images are loaded, it goes to the Welcome screen saying 'Logging Off'. I can log in with Safe Mode, and I ran a couple different virus scans, with no detections. I also tried checking the userinit.exe file in System32 (as suggested by MANY users for Windows XP), but it's the same version as a working system. I also checked the registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon for the SHELL and UserInit values, but they look normal. I tried to disable all startup items (through MSCONFIG) to select Diagnostic boot, but then I get a blue screen about the video driver not loading. Any other ideas? EDIT I created a new user, and it could log in no problems. I am thinking it's the NTUSER.DAT file. I just renamed it to NTUSER.DAT.old, then tried logging in as the problem user. I could log in, but as a TEMP profile. His profile folder is now C:\Users\TEMP, and his old folder is still accessible but in the wrong location. EDIT 2 I can't seem to turn off the TEMP profile, so I'm open to other suggestions. Copying the folders (i.e. Documents, Music, etc) does not work, as it creates an additional TEMP.000 then TEMP.001 folder each time the user logs in.

• Nginx Removes the index.php from URL

  I have a codeigniter php application on nginx. It works as expected on Apache but after moving to nginx, I noticed that the index.php is automatically removed from the URL in all my links. • Allow SFTP in iptables

  I have just purchased a VPS from linode and am going through the setup guide. I have everything running (apache2, php, mysql etc) but I am being denied access via SFTP when using fileZilla to upload a file. Now this is my second time installing the server as I missed a section out the first time. I was able to connect to my server through SFTP on filezilla the first time and the thing I missed out was adding a new user and editing the iptables in the firewall. So it would seem that the guide I have been following has blocked SFTP but allowed SSH. • PHP mail() function stopped working on Windows 2008 R2 IIS 7.5. Why?

  PHP 5.3.13 and as noted IIS 7.5. PHP mail() was working fine until I did 3 things (at the same time). (a) added memory to the server taking it from 4gb to 5gb; (b) ran Windows Update and applied all available updates; (c) removed SQL server installation. Windows 2008 R2 SMTP server still works fine. I know this because I can drop a file in the pickup folder and the mail is delivered. This PHP test script: <?php $to='my_name@another_domain.com'; $subject='Test email using PHP'; $message='This is a test email message'. "\r\n"; $headers='From:[email protected]' . "\r\n" . 'Reply-To:[email protected]' . "\r\n" . 'X-Mailer: PHP/' . phpversion(); mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers, '[email protected]'); ?> creates this entry in the PHP log file: mail() on [C:\www\pgs.com\store\admin\test_php_mail.php:1]: To: my_name@another_domain.com -- Headers: From:[email protected] Reply-To:[email protected] X-Mailer: PHP/5.3.13 PHP's mail.log. When using PHP now, I never see a file dropping on the IIS pickup folder. And on other thing, when using previouly working features on the site (such as password recovery), there is no entry made in the mail.log. (The mail log has just been setup to help solve this problem.) How do I fix this? Or at least how do I diagnose the problem? Thanks.

• jquery carousel auto scroll with text and image

  I'm using the jquery carousel and I have the image auto rotating here ( http://jsbin.com/unoce/2), so the issue I'm having is the content on the left is not AUTO rotating "with" the image and the arrow selection is not either. It only works when I click the content on the left and then the image on the right along with the arrow move appropriately together. Can someone provide support so I may get the text and the arrow to "auto" rotate with the image? • UiSplitViewController doesn't autorotate.

  Hello, I have recently run into a problem. My iPad app is somehow preventing the iPad from auto-rotating. My app loads a UISplitView with both of the view controllers returning YES for shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:. I have set up my info.plist to include the "Supported interface orientations" key with all four orientations. When I run the app, however, rotating the device does not rotate the splitView (even though I am receiving UIDeviceOrientationDidChangeNotification). In addition, when I exit my app in a different orientation that it started in the iPad home screen doesn't autorotate to the correct view until I rotate it again without my app running.... Any Ideas would be much appreciated....

• iPad SplitView changes main navigation bar color

  Weird problem: After rotating my app to portrait, picking the toolbar item and exposing the uipopovercontroller, if I rotate back to landscape, the UINavigationController on the right side (objectAtIndex:0 of the SplitView) changes the color of the navigation bar. I am not sure why. I have it set in Interface Builder to be barStyle = UIBarStyleBlackOpaque; It turns silver after it returns to landscape mode. This only happens if I rotate it to portrait, create the popover, and select something in the navigation controller, which pushes another tableViewController. Even setting the properties in the viewDidLoad method does nothing. Anyone have an idea?

• Trouble with onscreen keyboard orientation in iPhone OpenGL ES application.

  I need to take keyboard input in my OpenGL ES application, so I just created an empty UITextView and added it as a subview to the main window along with the view that presents my content. I use the UITextview to control the keyboard and it works fine in a single orientation. I then changed my code to support all orientations by rotating the OpenGL content myself based on UIDeviceOrientation notifications. To rotate the keyboard, I overrode the shouldAutoRotateInterfaceOrientation method in the UITextView's controller. But I still see that the keyboard does not rotate according to the orientation. Any clues?

  Everything works fine while I'm not playing anything (I'm calling beginnotifications, etc, and using the orientation to rotate my view). But after I start playing with MPMoviePlayerController every time I try a... UIDeviceOrientation orientation = [[UIDevice currentDevice] orientation]; ...orientation gets a UIDeviceOrientationUnknown. Any clue? When the movie stops everything works alright again. I need this orientation to rotate the player's window, because Im using Iphone OS 3.1 so I can't directly use the view property inside MPMovie player controller.

  I am trying to change my Sprite anchor point so that I can rotate over a 0.0f,0.0f anchorpoint. At first my object is rotation at the default anchor point (0.5f,0.5f). However later on I need it to rotate over a 0.0,0.0 AnchorPoint. The problem is I cannot change the anchor point and change the position accordingly, so it stays on the same position, without the object appearing to quickly move and reposition to its original point. Is there a way I can set the anchor point and the position of my Sprite at once, without it moving at all?. Thank you. -Oscar
