• WSS Fails Installing On Step 5 Of The SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard

  I've attempted to install WSS 3.0 with SP1 several times as both stand-alone and server farm with no luck on Windows Server 2008.  When I get to step 5 of Configuration wizard it begin installing and publishing services but on Step 5 I get the message "Failed To Register Sharepoint Services". The detail behind this message reads "An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException was thrown". Then I Run the command psconfig -cmd configdb -create -database <whatever_unique_name> Click on Start / All Programs / Administrative Tools / SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard Should work now (it did with me). PS: This was done on a Virtual Machine (VMware)

• Socialengine installation error

  I'm trying to install Socialengine (clean install, empty database, legal license key), but I ran into this error message at Step 3 of the installation: Step 3: Setup MySQL Database Mysqli statement execute error : Prepared statement needs to be re-prepared I found a troubleshooting artice about "Bug in MySQLi Extension Causes Apache 500 Error" at http://www.socialengine.net/blog/article?id=161&article=Bug-in-MySQLi-Extension-Causes-Apache-500-Error I uploaded the fixed file and try to install again, but it still doesn't work. It terminates at Step 3 again with the same error message. I would be very grateful if you could help me. Thanks.

• WCF Routing Service Filter Generator

  Recently I've been working with the WCF routing service and in our case we were simply routing based on the SOAP Action. This is a pretty good approach for a standard redirection of the message when all messages matching a SOAP Action will go to the same endpoint. Using the SOAP Action also lets you be specific about which methods you expose via the router. One of the things which was a pain was the number of routing rules I needed to create because we were routing for a lot of different methods. I could have explored the option of using a regular expression to match the message to its routing but I wanted to be very specific about what's routed and not risk exposing methods I shouldn't via the router. I decided to put together a little spreadsheet so that I can generate part of the configuration I would need to put in the configuration file rather than have to type this by hand. To show how this works download the spreadsheet from the following url: https://s3.amazonaws.com/CSCBlogSamples/WCF+Routing+Generator.xlsx In the spreadsheet you will see that the squares in green are the ones which you need to amend. In the below picture you can see that you specify a prefix and suffix for the filter name. The core namespace from the web service your generating routing rules for and the WCF endpoint name which you want to route to. In column A you will see the green cells where you add the list of method names which you want to include routing rules for. The spreadsheet will workout what the full SOAP Action would be then the name you will use for that filter in your WCF Routing filters. In column D the spreadsheet will have generated the XML snippet which you can add to the routing filters section in your configuration file. In column E the spreadsheet will have created the XML snippet which you can add to the routing table to send messages matching each filter to the appropriate WCF client endpoint to forward the message to the required destination. Hopefully you can see that with this spreadsheet it would be very easy to produce accurate XML for the WCF Routing configuration if you had a large number of routing rules. If you had additional methods in other services you can simply copy the worksheet and add multiple copies to the Excel workbook. One worksheet per service would work well.

• VirtualBox install

  I am using Win 7 Ultimate. I have the current version of Virtualbox. I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 from the Ubuntu website and the install as disc image. Ubuntu probably goes thru about 75% of the install and then I get an error message saying that there is a hardware issue and cannot continue. The error message also says it cannot read the disc, etc, etc. I have downloaded 2 different versions of Ubuntu. I had downloaded and re-installed VirtualBox twice. I also tried 12.04 but came into the same issue. I downloaded the "desktop AMD-64" Thank you in advance for your help.

• Check if the vector is behind another or maybe opposite directions?

  I'm doing a network game and on the client side, i interpolate the client position with the server sent extrapolated position. The client has its own physics simulation wich is corrected by the server in steps. The problem is when it laggs and i 'kick' the ball, the server gets a delayed message and sends me the position backwards of the client position wich makes the ball goes back and forth. I want to ignore those and maybe compensate that on the server, not sure though. The problem is the clock difference on those case are 0.07ms or 0.10 ms wich isn't that high to ignore the message i guess. When i get the server position, i extrapolate with the clock interval * serverBallVelocity Can i check if my new ball server position is behind my actual ball vector position? I tried to use the dot product after normalized the two vectors to check if they are opposite but it ain't working properly. Any suggestions on checking that?

  I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with ATI proprietary FGLRX graphic drivers When I boot, I can see this very quick message appearing; I don't have time to read it: **Fatal Error ..................................**(&@something i cant read) I searched through the log file in /var/log/ in order to find what is wrong and I did find something in the /var/log/Xorg.1.log: 21:31:08 [ 15.734] (--) using VT number 1 [ 204.647] Fatal server error: [ 204.647] xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call [ 204.647] [ 204.647] Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support at http://wiki.x.org for help. And there is a Xorg.0.log also & Xorg.0.log.old but it doesnt have any error in it. My system seems to work properly and it seems its not affected by this But how do I correct this message? • 12.04 cannot boot from USB

  The HP Pavilion g6 notebook is unable to boot from bootable USB stick created with Linux Live USB Creator. I was able to boot other systems using the same pendrive. I have changed the boot priority using F10. When I restarted, it didn't ask for any message like Press any key to boot from When I press F19, and selected the pendrive from the available options to boot from, while restarting it gives me a message: error while trying to boot selected boot image Though I looked into the possible suggestions here, none of them worked. Looking for any help? EDIT: I was able to fix the first issue, i'e ubuntu could be installed as secure boot option in the bios was not allowing the pendrive or cd/dvd to be detected. Now once i have successfully installed ubuntu 12.04, after the restart i was unable to find it in the os menu for selection and windows8 loaded by default Ubuntu version: 12.04

• My Herokuapp is inaccessible from custom domain name

  I have a Heroku app that is located at myapp.herokuapp.com. I have mapped a domain name to this app, using the A properties. I followed the instructions on Heroku's website to the letter, and it worked for a few days. Now when I try to access the site from the custom domain, it's timing out! On Chrome, I am getting "Oops! Google Chrome could not find that page!" message. I tried pinging the name as well, but I got this error: ping: cannot resolve yourhostname.org: Unknown host The app itself is working and I don't see any error messages from Heroku. • Can my machine run Ubuntu( kubuntu | xubuntu | mint ) 12.04 WELL?

  I have a 9 year old computer packing the hardware listed below. My question is, can I run 12.04 ( Ubuntu, Kubuntu, MINT or Xubuntu ) WELL? I was running Ubuntu 10.10 and I upgraded to 12.04 by going through each release via the update manager: 11.04 - 11.10 -12.04 During the installation process for 12.04 I saw an error message that there was an error installing and setting up part of the kernel. Later, when I tried installing a package in synaptic, I got another error message mentioning the kernel. When I rebooted, I got told somehting about my video and graphics was not configured properly and that I would have to do it manually ( like I know ). It gave me the option to enter the system in low graphics mode, but it just hanged. I had an old livecd of Xubuntu 10.10 around so I used that to get into my computer and copy data over to an external hard drive. I think tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 from the livecd, with the option "download updates" checked. The install process moved along a bit, then halted for about 5 hours. I rebooted my machine and tried the Xubuntu 10.10 installer WITHOUT the option to "download updates". The install completed in about 15 minutes. So, all of that is making me wonder if there is someting about 12.04 that does not like my hardware. I'm willing to try again, but only if I know I will not have to spend hours just to get to an error message and a hosed up system like I did last night. I also think I have a lot more RAM than is being reported in the output below. I had extra ram installed last year. I'm not good with the command line readouts, but there seems like there should be a lot more. I wasn't thrilled with Unity. I am willing to try Kubuntu 12.04. Will I run into the same problems? What is the highest version of a *ubuntu can I upgrade to?   Certain windows are not opening in the last position/size I used them at. Opening "compose a message" with evolution through the message menu on the toolbar opens a window that is always in the top left of my screen. Opening Firefox 4.0 always opens maximized, even if i last used it in "windowed" mode. Other things I've tried that won't remember my custom positions: ccsm, terminal, gedit, sound recorder, calculator. Some other stuff works fine like banshee, empathy, shutter, deluge. Is this a bug? Is there a way to make these applications open in their last used positions/sizes?

• Handle php out of memory error

  I have a Drupal based web site on a relative small vserver (512MB RAM). Recently the website begins to return php out of memory messages like this: Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 17039360) (tried to allocate 77824 bytes) in /home/... All php.ini memory limit parameters are set to off (-1). Propably the website has gained of complexity, content, etc. But I cannot interpret fine that message: Does that mean that the whole request has allocated 17MB(?) right now and cannot get 7MB(?) more from the OS. Has the web server spend all memory or has the OS no more memory to allocate ? I'm not shure if the memory overhead is coming from the web server or another service, because when I get the out-of-memoy message I can't get into the server with ssh. After a while all runs fine again.

• Issue in upgrading Zenity

  I am currently using Ubuntu 12.04 I am attempting to install steam using the post in omgubuntu. However, I am running into problems when the command sudo dpkg -i steam.deb && sudo apt-get install -f. I get the message that the version of Zenity is too low. The minimum required version is 3.4.0-0ubuntu4 while I currently have 3.4.0-0ubuntu2 I tried sudo apt-get install zenity but it does not update it and gives the following message: zenity is already the newest version. I also tried installing via the ubuntuupdates website for the latest version of Zenity, but it still does not work.Ubuntu Software Centre indicates that it is already installed and provides no option to update. :( Any idea how to update Zenity in my system?

• Unable to mount Windows (NTFS) filesystem due to hibernation

  Whenever I boot Ubuntu, I get a message that it cannot mount my windows partition, and I can choose to either wait, skip or manually mount. When I try to enter my Windows partition through Nautilus I get a message saying that this partition is hibernated and that I need to enter the file system and properly close it, something I have done with no problem so I don't know why this happens. • Not your typical Permission Denied Question

  I recently reinstalled Ubuntu 11.10 (64 Bit) on my computer. (My hard drive took a powder) Before, I could "mv" files around with the command. Now when I try I get the permission denied message. I also get the message about "man sudo" when I open my terminal. I am pretty sure I did not get that before. Can I add a user/administrator and change something in my orginal admin that I cannot change myself? I am getting really frustrated with this. I do not recall having the same problem before. I tried qksudo nautilus and it appears to run then it sits there with the cursor blinking but does not move.

  In my early days of programming I often used to get memory related fatal errors in the following format: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of <some big number> bytes exhausted (tried to allocate <some small number> bytes) in /path/to/filename.php on line <some line number> I'm a little embarrassed to state that even though I have figured out how to solve them and take steps to avoid them altogether, I'm still not quite sure what exactly does the message translate to in simple words. For example, if I get a message such as: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4000 bytes) in ........ on line 34 As things stand at the moment, I assume it to be stating that the script consumes 67108864 bytes of data, but only 4000 bytes are available during runtime. Am I right in my assumption? If not, what's the correct interpretation?

  I am quite new to Ubuntu and I already stumbled upon a problem. I run Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat now and Install went fine, when trying to boot the screen popped black and I faced this message "gpu lockup - switching to software fbcon." When setting the display to onboard VGA through BIOS Ubuntu has no problem at all, but when I switch back to my AGP card (which is a Nvidia GeForce 6600GT) I get that message again. I do not use VGA for that card I use my DVI cable for it. Does anyone have an answer for me to make this work? Thank you

• Unneeded RAID recovery

  I have two software RAID 5s. Today when I turned on my server (after it was off for two weeks when I was on vacation), I got the message that the software RAID is degraded and was offered RAID recovery console or boot degraded. No idea what to do in that recovery console btw, so I just exited it. After the boot finished normally I took a peak at /proc/mdstat but there is nothing amiss there. So I took a look at mdadm --detail /dev/md0 (and md1) and again everything looks fine with Failed Devices being 0 both times. Next I took a look at smartctl --alll /dev/sdX for all of the drives and Reallocated_Sector_Ct is 0. (Lots of other zeros, all numbers look to me fine) Anybody have any ideas why I'm getting the RAID recovery message on boot when nothing seems bad?

E: Encountered a section with no Package: header E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/security.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty-security_main_i18n_Translation-en E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. I tried to remove the damage repository by going to ubuntu software center. There was no option of repository removal. Then I tried synaptic, however I got the same error message stated above. I cannot find software source in 11.04. How do I remove repository from the commandline since that seems to be my only option?

• Ubuntu VM cannot start after Kernel upgrade

  Several Ubuntu 10.04 VMs were restarted after few months and began getting "Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)" message. Restoring those VMs from backup (to the "paused" state) allows to boot normally. However restarting the VM again results in the mentioned error message. I suspect it's the updated kernel version (2.6.32-37-server, 2.6.32-38-server) that misbehave - another Ubuntu VM (that's used as template for those failing VMs) still has 2.6.32-24-server and reboots fine. We're using HyperV (2008R2) as the server host. Nothing were changed in it's configuration. Has anyone faced this issue, please advise the solution. Many Thanks in advance!

• Networking Icon Keeps Disappearing

  Almost every time I unlock my computer the networking icon and the Bluetooth icons are missing from the panel. They also disappear if I disable networking with the 'hardware switch', even though before they would just switch to a 'disabled' look. I know I can get the networking one back by running nm-applet, but I'd rather just find a way to make it stop disappearing. What causes this? This is on 12.10 64-bit, if it matters. UPDATE: I ran it from terminal, and got this: $ nm-applet ** Message: applet now removed from the notification area ** Message: PID 31340 (we are 28924) sent signal 15, shutting down... And then it exited. So it thinks it's supposed to quit...? I haven't been able to figure out what process had that ID.
