  I'm trying to setup iscsitarget on Ubuntu 12.04 but I can't connect to it. On the windows machine it says Target Error. with no other output. • How to scan local network (LAN) for connected devices (Mac OS)

I am trying to connect a new workstation to our wireless multifunction printer and I'm having a hell of a time getting the device to spit out an IP for me to connect to.   I've downloaded a lot of Windows 7 versions (release candidates, trial, x64 and x86, etc). The bad part is that the downloaded iso files don't have clear names, so I cannot to know wich version is each file. I can check the files inside the iso using 7-Zip, by example. Then, reading the files and folders in the installation disk, how can I tell what Windows version and platform the installation refers to?

• OSX Lion - sh: mysql command not found

  I have pretty simple issue I believe. I have successfully installed mysql etc. I do not have any problems with running "mysql" command from terminal [ bash ]. Suddenly, when my application tried to run mysql command I got error: sh: mysql: command not found.. In terminal, when I type sh and then mysql I can log in to mysql without any problems. I have added mysql to PATH in .bash_profile and I suspect this is why sh cannot see it. I have cp .bash_profile to .profile but it did not do the trick, any ideas how can I fix this issue?

  I tried logging into my computer after an "ungraceful" shutdown due to a power cut.. I got prompted with a message stating the user profile service failed the login. After reading a k/b on Microsoft I managed to re-login to the "corrupt" account by making registery edits.. But the next step (After having the ability to logon) is a major concern for me.. Would the guys at superuser suggest: 1) Carry on using said account 2) Re-install Windows to eliminate the possible chance of a reoccouring problem 3) Migrate all user data over to a new account and with that being said above. I had to issue the command line: net user administrator /active:yes to activate the hidden adminstrator account, would it be recommended/secure to disable the account or leave it active?

• Cannot open files in Visual Studio but in Delphi and Notepad

  About an hour ago Visual Studio 2008 decided that it cannot find files any more. This is on 64 bit Windows Vista. When I right-click on a text file (source code or otherwise) and select "open with" and "Visual Studio 2008", I get the following error (example): Windows cannot find 'C:\Users\ajbrehm\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\Hello Prism\Hello Prism\Main.pas'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. When I right-click the same file and select "open with" and "Delphi 2010" or "Notepad" (both other options available for text files on my system), the file opens correctly. Oddly enough when the file is part of a Visual Studio project and I open the project itself with Visual Studio (this works), I can open the file from within Visual Studio. Any ideas what might be going on? This started about an hour after I made a complete backup of my Vista VM and after I installed IIS 7, SQL Express, and Sourcegear Vault. The first files I noticed couldn't be opened in Visual Studio any more where Pascal source files in checked-outed folders from Vault. And Vault also seems to be unable to see one of the sources files and claims they don't exist. I found out about Visual Studio not opening ANY files any more when I tried to recreate the file Vault refused to see. Update: I just checked. Another user, "administrator", can still open text files with Visual Studio 2008. Both users have administrator rights. Update: I just restored the hours-old backup. Same problem. Apparently whatever triggered this happened before the install of IIS 7 and SQL Express. Never noticed it before.

• TicTac Photo and Windows 7

  Hello, My wife has been creating a tictac photo album. I had to upgrade to windows 7 as i had enough of Vista so i backed up the tic tac photo file and the photos to an external hard disk and performed a fresh install of win7. Now here is the problem. TicTacPhoto says it can find the photos in the album. The locations were as follows: Vista: C:\Users\Kelly\Pictures Win 7 C:\Users\Kelly\My Pictures When i try to create a Pictures folder under Kelly it popups a message about merging the two folders and simply moves the pictures to the My Pictures folder. Does anyone know a way to make a foler called pictures so i can eliminate the file path problem and then try again with tic tac photo support to get them to fix my file. My wife is going to kill me as its our wedding album and she has spent upwards of 30hrs designing it and me upgrading to win 7 means its all my fault. She does not understand file paths etc. Im going to try and open the album file in a text editor and see if i can see anything but thought i would ask here as well. Any help appreciated.

  Hi, A friend has managed to set up their new Windows 7 Home Premium Dell Inspiron and forgot the password they have used. I have tried the following password reset software to no avail: UBCD OHPCrack Offline NT Password & Registry Editor *Trinity Kon Boot I have also tried to do a system restore but this asks for the password. The user does not have any data they need to save. Is there anyway I can get access to the restore partition using Linux to create a recovery disk or do I have to purchase a recovery disk from Dell? Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Verification of files on backup media - after the backup

  I have a system in place where I back up my work files daily to a portable hard drive. I actually have two portable hard drives - one is stored off-site and I swap them regularly. I also keep my family photos and other historical files backed up, but I only back the photos up occasionally (ie when I have new photos). The backup media is for backup only, and it is unlikely I will ever read the files from the backup media unless a disaster occurs and I lose the master. It worries me that my backed up files could become corrupt without me knowing it. It is also feasible that my master files could become corrupt, and eventually the corrupt files would be replicated to the backup media. I'm currently using Cobian Backup, but I'm open to alternatives. Is there a tool I can use to confirm that the backed up files are identical to the files that were first copied? I know it would be possible to generate a checksum and periodically validate the backup files against the original checksum, but I'm looking for a tool which will do this automatically.

• How do I find out the Mac Address Firefox submits for Geolocation?

  I moved, but have the same router and cable box. Now when I visit Google Maps it still shows my old location. I went to the SkyhookWireless update page to update my Mac Address with my new location. The process is you put in your Mac address and it shows you the current location, and then you adjust that location and submit it. When I got the Mac Address from the status page on my router Skyhook reported that location as in Pakistan, which isn't even the correct continent (as my old or new address). I tried every other Mac address I could come up with: The cable router, the Wireless router's other Mac address, my PC's Mac address, etc. and none of them reported any location on the Skyhook page. So I am guessing that there is another Mac address, or some other bit of information that is used by Firefox when it reports to Google Maps my current location. Now that you have the back story, how do I find the Mac address or whatever information it is that Firefox (or other browsers) use to determine my Geolocation? Everything I have read online is rather vague. The next option I am considering is hooking a logging proxy onto Firefox and seeing what data it sends, but I'd rather find an easier method.   On a Windows machine, clicking and holding a keyboard key results in the key being types multiple times. For example, if I click and hold 'q' for a few seconds, I end up with the following: qqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq Similarly, I can click and hold the Backspace key to delete multiple characters. On a Mac, it seems, clicking and holding a key for several seconds results in the key being types only once. To type it repeatedly, it is necessary to psychically click it multiple times. I'm unclear about whether that is a bug or a supposed-feature, but I am interested in replicating this functionality on a Mac. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Videoediting slow on windows with HD footage in fileformat .MOV

  Hi, My camera a Canon 5D mark II serves me .mov files in HD - but these are a pain in the neck to edit on my pc. I have tried Premier, Vegas, Pinnacle etc - but it is almost impossible to edit and do a movie. I do have a good computer with windows7 but that doesnt help me, and I dont want to buy a new monster pc just for that task. • Error Message: Primary Slave Drive - ATAPI Incompatible

  So I recently switched towers and now, all of a sudden, I'm getting this error message as soon as I boot my system. The error message reads "Primary Slave Drive - ATAPI Incompatible". This has really been frustrating since there's NO Primary Slave Drive even installed in my computer!! I have one hard drive installed which is recognized as the Primary Master & a DVD Drive which is recognized as the Secondary Master. My old system ran flawlessly. I'm beginning to think maybe my motherboard is bugging out cuz I fail to understand how it can be telling me that a "nonexistent" drive is incompatible. Any suggestions??

• How do multiple displays work on a AMD 785G / ATI HD 4200 motherboard?

  I just ordered a ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO which has the AMD 785G chipset and HD4200 integrated graphic. The board has VGA, DVI, and HDMI outputs. I'm wondering how many outputs I can run at once, and from what connectors? My guess is that I can only use the VGA, and either the DVI or the HDMI in a dual setup. But not the HDMI and the DVI at the same time. Is this correct? If I have devices plugged into both the HDMI and the DVI ports is there a way to choose between which port I want to use? I have a dual 19" monitor setup, as well as a LCD TV. I'd like to run the VGA and the DVI into my two monitors, and then the HDMI to my TV. Then when I want to watch something on the TV I'd like to be able to switch over from the DVI to the HDMI. Is this possible with out crawling under my desk and unplugging/plugging things in? Update I found the following in the manual off ASUS's website, which confirms my original suspicion that HDMI and DVI can't be used at the same time. But I'd still like to know if it's possible through software to switch between using the HDMI and DVI.

• USB Wifi will not connect on Windows 7 (Even though the driver installs OK)

  Windows 7 will not connect to a WiFi Netowrk using a USB Network Adapter. I have 3 adapters, A Senoa SUB 364 (EXT), a Repeatit SU2410 USB V2 and a ZYXEL G202. All of these devices install OK on Windows 7 Home Premium on my Destop PC (64 bit) and on my Asus Wii Netbook (32 bit). In each case the adapter can be enabled/disabled and the driver properties says it is working correctly. When I try and connect to a network Windows 7 behaves as though the adapter does not exist and reports no networks. The Wii has an integrated adapter which works perfectly under Windows and connects to either of the 3 networks available to me. I have done all the checks I can on the configuration. What seems odd to me is that it happens to all 3 devices on 2 different windows 7 PCs both of which are working perfectly in any other respect. This suggests the common denominator is me and I must be doing something wrong.. what's also strange is that I cannot find any similar problems being reported on any of the forums. From what reading I've been able to do it seems like the new wifi virtualisation thingy in W7 is not recognising the adapters which suggests I', missing a configuration option somewhere. Looking forward to finding out if I'm not alone or just being stupid. Pete

I can tag posts, e.g. "A" or "B" or "all," and then you can either 1) click to only view posts tagged "A" or "all" or 2) even more ideally, I can set it so you automatically see posts tagged "A" or "all" when you log in. LaTeX support--I can type in LaTeX in the editor and it will show the math properly. No anonymous anything--must sign up and be logged in to view and comment Not as important, but convenient: Admin controls, e.g. detailed statistics, see who posts or views what when, control who posts / views, etc. Hosting: Ideally, if there's some software I can install on "my" own server, that would be ideal. But if we can't host it, it'd still be good to find some free (or maybe even paid) service elsewhere that would host the blog if it provided those tools. Any thoughts? I have no experience with this.   So I am a small mac-user cog in a larger windows-based network machine. The network here works fine for most everyone else (on PCs), but I have random timeouts and issues with the Wifi. Luckily, I have identified a few problem access points by MAC address (via their log messages in Console.app). Is it possible to tell my Airport on my Macbook to avoid those access points, and only speak with the access points who are far less touchy about me drinking the Apple kool-aid? All of the points are on the same network SSID.

  I want to install the MaxMind GeoIP C library, so that I can use GeoIP as part of Django. I'm working on MacOS. I've downloaded GeoIP-1.4.8.tar.gz from here and run: ./configure make make check make install without any problems. I've also downloaded GeoIP.dat.gz and GeoLiteCity.dat.gz, unzipped them and put them in a local directory. Then I've set the following paths in my settings.py: GEOIP_PATH = 'path_to_dat_files' GEOIP_LIBRARY_PATH = 'path_to_c_files' Now I'm trying to run python manage.py migrate (which has a reference to GeoIP in a project I'm using), but I'm still getting this error: from django.contrib.gis.utils import GeoIP ImportError: cannot import name GeoIP Any ideas?   Could someone kindly provide a skeleton ifcfg-eth0:[X] for creating an alias with a IPv6 address and no IPv4 address? Or, alternatively, what's the IPv6 equivalent of this: in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:1 DEVICE=eth0:1 ONBOOT=yes BOOTPROTO=static IPADDR=42.69.66.66 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 Or does this not even make sense in IPv6 space? I know that I can use, for example: IPV6INIT=yes IPV6ADDR=2600:4200::6900:6666:dead:beef But then do I need to specify that there is no IPv4 address associated with this alias? If so, how? And do I need to also specify the IPV6_DEFAULTGW? Or can it piggyback on the eth0 (unaliased) gateway, which is specifed, like with IPv4 aliases? EDIT: Answered my own question! The easiest way to accomplish this seems to be not to create an alias as with IPV4, but to specify, for example, IPV6ADDR_SECONDARIES=2600:4200::6900:6666:dead:beef on the script for the base interface, e.g. ifcfg-eth0.

  I accidentally make Pidgin the default app for Yahoo Messenger URI scheme (ymsgr://) in Google Chrome. Now, whenever I click on a Yahoo Messenger URI scheme, instead of appearing a popup chat box, nothing happens. How can I change the default app to associate with this URI scheme back to Yahoo Messenger? I found a similar problem here. But I am using Windows 7, not Ubuntu, so the solution cannot be applied in my situation.

• Centos livecd of current installation

  I'm trying to create a liveCD of my current Centos installation. i want it to be almost like a backup, so whenever I want to copy my current installation to another computer I would simply install from my custom liveCD. I know this is possible, and found some resources in the nets, but they all seem to only create a minimal version of CENTOS, and I'm wanting to have all the current functionalities available to me at present, including all of my development functionalities, Apache and samba settings, etc. I have done (on Debian though) it a few years ago, but can't remember how. could anyone please shed me a light on this?
