  • Integrating ASP.NET MVC 2 with classic ASP

    I'm in the process of moving a large classic ASP application to ASP.NET MVC 2. Questions: My question is about project organization. I would prefer to not mix the MVC code with the ASP code in the same VS project. I'd like to have an MVC WAP with areas that match the parts of the website that I'm migrating. For instance, the old site has a folder /products/default.asp..... /products/productName/default.asp etc. In the MVC WAP, I'd like to have an area called "products", which I could then, either through a rewrite, routing, or preferably through some IIS configuration, point the "products" folder on the ASP site to. In this way, I could gradually move root folders from the ASP site to the MVC application. However, if I create the MVC WAP in a virtual folder, then my routes wind up looking like http://localhost/virtualFolder/products instead of http://localhost/products Any suggestions on how to conquer this? I know that, during deployment, I could deploy the MVC WAP into the root of the ASP site, but this doesn't help with debugging.

  • Can simple javascript inheritance be simplified even further?

    John Resig (of jQuery fame) provides a concise and elegant way to allow simple JavaScript inheritance. It was so short and sweet, in fact, that it inspired me to try and simplify it even further (see code below). I've modified his original function such that it still passes all his tests and has the potential advantage of: readability (50% less code) simplicity (you don't have to be a ninja to understand it) performance (no extra wrappers around super/base method calls) consistency with C#'s base keyword Because this seems almost too good to be true, I want to make sure my logic doesn't have any fundamental flaws/holes/bugs, or if anyone has additional suggestions to improve or refute the code (perhaps even John Resig could chime in here!).   • How to delete duplicate vectors within a multidimensional vector?

    I have a vector of vectors: vector< vector<int> > BigVec; It contains an arbitrary number of vectors, each of an arbitrary size. I want to delete not duplicate elements of each vector, but any vectors that are the exact same as another. I don't need to preserve the order of the vectors so I can sort etc.. It should be a really simple problem to solve but I'm new to this, my (not-working) best effort: for (int i = 0; i < BigVec.size(); i++) { for (int j = 1; j < BigVec.size() ; j++ ) { if (BigVec[i][0] == BigVec [j][i]); { BigVec.erase(BigVec.begin() + j); i = 0; // because i get the impression deleting a j = 1; // vector messes up a simple iteration through } } } I think there might be a solution using Unique(), but I can't get that to work either.

  • May volatile be in user defined types to help writing thread-safe code

    I know, it has been made quite clear in a couple of questions/answers before, that volatile is related to the visible state of the c++ memory model and not to multithreading. On the other hand, this article by Alexandrescu uses the volatile keyword not as a runtime feature but rather as a compile time check to force the compiler into failing to accept code that could be not thread safe. In the article the keyword is used more like a required_thread_safety tag than the actual intended use of volatile. Is this (ab)use of volatile appropriate? What possible gotchas may be hidden in the approach? The first thing that comes to mind is added confusion: volatile is not related to thread safety, but by lack of a better tool I could accept it. Basic simplification of the article: If you declare a variable volatile, only volatile member methods can be called on it, so the compiler will block calling code to other methods. Declaring an std::vector instance as volatile will block all uses of the class. Adding a wrapper in the shape of a locking pointer that performs a const_cast to release the volatile requirement, any access through the locking pointer will be allowed.   • redrawing on ncurses

    I'm trying to redraw the content of a simple loop. So far it prints out to the stdscr 100 lines, and then by using scrl to scroll n lines I get n blank rows. What I want is to keep with the sequence. However, I'm not sure how to redraw the stdscr with the n extra lines.   • C# Training Quizzes

    Hello there, I have been programming 10 years, mostly in vba and vb.net but I know c# well enough to program what I normally do. I yesterday was applying for a Senior c# position and I did so poorly on the induction test its not funny :) I have always found that for me the best way to learn and recall is via question's and answers (multichoice and short answer). That is, a question is posed and after I answer instant feedback is given as to whether I choose right or wrong and the reasons why. As such I was wondering if anyone knew of or could recommend a C# quiz website. Something like a daily c# quiz to keep my brain up to date and fresh if I'm not always programming in it. Not something wimpy either. Something that does everything. Paying is not an obstacle, id prefer to pay for a good resource than muck around. Thank you

    I'm trying to compile SoundTouch on Android. I could refactor the code not to use stdexcept. There may be a way to pull in the original stdexcept source and reference that. I might be able to link to a precompiled stdexcept library.

  • jQuery datepicker years shown

    With the jQuery datepicker, how does one change the year range that is displayed? On the jQuery UI site it says the default is "10 years before and after the current year are shown". I want to use this for a birthday selection and 10 years before today is no good.   • Cast from Void* to TYPE* using C++ style cast: static_cast or reinterpret_cast

    So if your converting from Void* to Type* or from Type* to Void* should you use: void func(void *p) { Params *params = static_cast<Params*>(p); } or void func(void *p) { Params *params = reinterpret_cast<Params*>(p); } To me static_cast seems the more correct but I've seen both used for the same purpose. Also, does the direction of the conversion matter. i.e. should I still use static_cast for: _beginthread(func,0,static_cast<void*>(params) I have read the other questions on C++ style casting but I'm still not sure what the correct way is for this scenario (I think it is static_cast)

  • Is it valid to use unsafe struct * as an opaque type instead of IntPtr in .NET Platform Invoke?

    .NET Platform Invoke advocates declaring pointer types as IntPtr. For example, the following [DllImport("user32.dll")] static extern IntPtr SendMessage(IntPtr hWnd, UInt32 Msg, Int32 wParam, Int32 lParam); However, I find when interfacing with interesting native interfaces, that have many pointer types, flattening everything into IntPtr makes the code very hard to read and removes the typical typechecking that a compiler can do. I've been using a pattern where I declare an unsafe struct to be an opaque pointer type. I can store this pointer type in a managed object, and the compiler can typecheck it form me. For example: class Foo { unsafe struct FOO {}; // opaque type unsafe FOO *my_foo; class if { [DllImport("mydll")] extern static unsafe FOO* get_foo(); [DllImport("mydll")] extern static unsafe void do_something_foo(FOO *foo); } public unsafe Foo() { this.my_foo = if.get_foo(); } public unsafe do_something_foo() { if.do_something_foo(this.my_foo); } While this example may not seem different than using IntPtr, when there are several pointer types moving between managed and native code, using these opaque pointer types for typechecking is a godsend. I have not run into any trouble using this technique in practice. However, I also have not seen an examples of anyone using this technique, and I wonder why. Is there any reason that the above code is invalid in the eyes of the .NET runtime? My main question is about how the .NET GC system treats "unsafe FOO *my_foo". Is this pointer something the GC system is going to try to trace, or is it simply going to ignore it? My hope is that because the underlying type is a struct, and it's declared unsafe, that the GC would ignore it. However, I don't know for sure. Thoughts?

UI Library: YUI Compressor for .Net (http://yuicompressor.codeplex.com), that according to the web site is licensed under MS-Pl (http://yuicompressor.codeplex.com/license). The project I work in is release under the terms of Apache Software Foundation License 2.0. According to the MS-Pl license "If you distribute any portion of the software in compiled or object code form, you may only do so under a license that complies with this license." , the term complies is not very clear! Does ASL License complies with MS-Pl license?

  • How to thoroughly purge and reinstall postgresql on ubuntu?

    Somehow I've managed to completely bugger the install of postgresql on Ubuntu karmic. I want to start over from scratch, but when I "purge" the package with apt-get it still leaves traces behind such that the reinstall configuration doesn't run properly. After I've done: apt-get purge postgresql apt-get install postgresql It said Setting up postgresql-8.4 (8.4.3-0ubuntu9.10.1) ... Configuring already existing cluster (configuration: /etc/postgresql/8.4/main, data: /var/lib/postgresql/8.4/main, owner: 108:112) Error: move_conffile: required configuration file /var/lib/postgresql/8.4/main/postgresql.conf does not exist Error: could not create default cluster. Please create it manually with pg_createcluster 8.4 main --start or a similar command (see 'man pg_createcluster'). update-alternatives: using /usr/share/postgresql/8.4/man/man1/postmaster.1.gz to provide /usr/share/man/man1/postmaster.1.gz (postmaster.1.gz) in auto mode. Setting up postgresql (8.4.3-0ubuntu9.10.1) ... I have a "/etc/postgresql" with nothing in it and "/etc/postgresql-common/" has a 'pg_upgradecluser.d' directory and root.crt and user_clusters files. The /etc/passwd has a postgres user; the purge script doesn't appear to touch it. There's been a bunch of symptoms which I work through only to expose the next. Right this second, when I run that command "pg_createcluster..." it complains that '/var/lib/postgresql/8.4/main/postgresql.conf does not exist', so I'll go find one of those but I'm sure that won't be the end of it. Is there not some easy one-liner (or two) which will burn it completely and let me start over?

    I'm trying to set the size of a dijit.Dialog, but it seems limited to 600x400, no matter what size I set it. I've copied the code from dojocampus and the dialog appear, but when i set the size larger, it only shows 600x400. Using firebug and selecting items inside the dialog, I see that they are larger than the dialog, but don't show correctly. I set it up to scroll, but the bottom of the scrollbar is out of view. In firebug, I've check the maxSize from _Widget and it is set to infinity.     It's easy to find duplicates with one field SELECT name, COUNT(email) FROM users GROUP BY email HAVING ( COUNT(email) > 1 ) So if we have a table ID NAME EMAIL 1 John [email protected] 2 Sam [email protected] 3 Tom [email protected] 4 Bob [email protected] 5 Tom [email protected] This query will give us John, Sam, Tom, Tom because they all have the same e-mails. But what I want, is to get duplicates with the same e-mails and names. I want to get Tom, Tom. I made a mistake, and allowed to insert duplicate name and e-mail values. Now I need to remove/change the duplicates. But I need to find them first.

The code I inherited had this value for the name of the webserver in a Public Const in a Public Class called FixedConstants. I know Request.UserHostName or Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_HOST") works when invoked from a page but why does this return empty when invoked from a called method of a class file (i.e. UIFunction.vb)?

    I have an HTML page which embeds an IWebBrowser2 ActiveX (i.e. the control is essentially an Internet Explorer browser). I need to write JavaScript in this HTML page which will remove any window.onresize handler from the page loaded in the IWebBrowser2 control. IWebBrowser2 exposes the DOM through IWebBrowser2::Document, but this is equivalent to window.document. Is there any way I can get access to window or window.onresize?

Everytime we upgrade the software, we need to manually edit the various configuration files and add 3rd party libraries that we use in the current version of the software. Creating patches for the configuration files changes are fine, but how do I add 3rd party libraries (binaries) to a Mercurial patch? Is it even possible?
