• Hide Spotify from Windows 7 Task Bar

  When Spotify is running, it shows a little icon in the activity field. On most operative systems, closing the Spotify window minimizes the player to the activity window, freeing up space in the task bar - but not in Windows 7, it seems. I think it's a little uneccessary to have two icons in almost the same place that does almost the same thing. Is there anyway to hide a program icon from the task bar, in this case specifically Spotify?

  Hello, I have several machines on my lan. One is used as a http proxy to target web sites located on the others (that's working fine now thanks to ServerFault). On my router, Port 22 is NATed to this proxy machine. I would like to be able to access the other machines, within internet, with something like: ssh user@first_machine.my_domain.tld ssh user@second_machine.my_domain.tld Could I use the proxy machine to 'filter' the incoming ssh request and to route them to the correct machine ? (in the same way it's possible to do so for web sites using a mix of mod_proxy and namevirtualhost in Apache) Thanks a lot, Luc

• How do I redirect the kernel console output on Ubuntu 10.04

  When I reboot my Ubuntu 10.04 nodes, I'd like to be able to see the kernel boot messages when connecting to the IPMI interfaces using Serial Over LAN mode (ttyS0). What do I need to do to be able to redirect these messages to ttyS0? Ideally, I'd like them to also still appear in the usual place (tty0, I think) for when I plug a monitor directly into the box.

  I'm having trouble with this rewrite. I've never really used mod_rewrite before and don't have much experience with regex.   Suppose you are apart from the mobile or whatever phone (so can't call 112 or 911 or 999), but have have access to a computer with internet connection. How do you call/message an emergency service (of whatever country in hope they will route the request to the correct destination) using only Internet? Maybe there's some 911-like website or public SIP or whatever? Or better go to some chat/forum/StackExchange/whatever and ask somebody to make a call for you? (will users really believe?) /* 1. • Multiple IPs on Juniper SRX100 Untrust Port

  I am having trouble getting multiple IP addresses on the untrust port. I have tried a few different methods, but can't seem to get it to work. Does anyone have a good tutorial that is not easily found or if possible can type up the steps? I don't mind trying to do it through ssh, but would prefer web interface.   Is there a way to place EXIM smtp banner on 1 line instead of 3 lines? The banner starts with 220. I've been searching but can not find a way. under /etc/exim.conf I have #todd host's smtp_banner = "${primary_hostname} ESMTP Exim ${version_number} \ \#${compile_number} ${tod_full} \n\ We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited, \n\ and/or bulk e-mail." do i make that one line?

• Work firewall blocking Gmail IMAP port

  My work has a very over protective firewall. We use Google Apps for our email and so can access the web interface just fine. I use my laptop at work however (MacBook connected via WiFi through my AirPort Express), and prefer to use Sparrow to check my email. The problem is that our firewall blocks whatever port Gmail's IMAP server uses. I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to work around this. I'm guessing I'll need to use an SSH tunnel or VPN, but I'm looking for specific instructions. I'd prefer to only route the IMAP stuff around the firewall as opposed to using a VPN full time. I have two computers at home (one PC, one Mac Mini) that are always on and could probably act as a server if needed.

This set up was performing better than just having apache. but suddenly some change caused images getting blocked for like 2-3sec before actually downloading with apache+nginx setup. It doesnt happen with apache only set up? Any idea why it is happening with nginx? this was happening even i removed all external js from the page

• HOSTS File Edit in Windows 7 Not Effective - Pinging URL Still Shows Original IP Address

  I've edited my HOSTS file on my Windows 7 Ultimate PC to re-route a couple of URLs so that they point to 127.0.0.1, but after saving the file (and re-opening to verify the changes were written) and pinging them they still reply with the actual IP instead of being redirected to 127.0.0.1 as they should be. At least, that's how it worked in XP, Vista, etc. I even went so far as to restart my DNS service on the machine via services.msc; but no dice. So - I would imagine that Windows 7 keeps the HOSTS file there for legacy purposes and doesn't actually use it anymore. Is there a way to make W7 pay attention to the HOSTS file? In the event that you can't do that, where would I go to edit where these URLs point to? Thanks in advance! -Sootah

• Map /dev/bus/usb node to /sys node on Linux

  I'm using libusb to find and access a USB device, but once I get the information I need from there, I need to map it to a /sys node. This could be to the actual USB bus it's on, the /sys/bus/usb-serial node (which is where I'm going to get eventually), or effectively anywhere else since I can walk the tree from there. I can get to a /dev/bus/usb node easily enough, but I'm a bit lost from there. What would be the best route to perform this mapping? Alternatively, a way to get the /dev/ttyUSB device node for a /dev/bus/usb node would work as well, since it gets me the same result.

  I've just setup vmware vsphere 5 on a remote server (rented dedicated server). I've added my first VPS (centos 5.8) barebones. It's not finding any IP (internal or external) on boot. I've had an extra external IP assigned to my server that I wanted to use on the VPS. I tried editing the eth0 config and adding the IP in there and turning off the DHCP, but it can't find any IP or ping google or do any networking type things. How do I route the IP to my VPS so I can access it remotely?

• White lines appear right in the middle of my Dell XPS M1210 screen

  My Dell XPSM1210 has developed these weird lines right in the middle of the screen. When I connect an external monitor the lines disappear and the display is fine. I would like to know if this is a problem with the screen panel and if it needs replacement is there a place where I could buy one.   I don't know how to access a Samba share running on a Ubuntu 10.04 server through OpenVPN 2.1.0. I've installed & configured OpenVPN and everything works. The server end of the tunnel has the IP of 10.8.0.1. When I connect from XP (over our local network) I'm given the IP of 10.8.0.6. I can ping and trace route from both ends of the tunnel. Now, I'm lost...how to access the Samba share from XP and from OS X?

  Situation: I have two Windows7 machines (PC and laptop). I've set PC as VPN server and laptop as VPN client using default built-in W7 network tools. I've disabled use default gateway in remote network on client machine, so client don't try to route all communication through VPN. I've routed port 1723 (TCP/UDP) on NAT to my server and enabled IPSec/PPTP/L2TP passthrough I've put my laptop in indepedent network (basically I've connected it via 3G network), connected to VPN server and checked ipconfig /all I've get: IP Address: 192.168.1.101 Mask: 255.255.255.255 Gateway: (none) LAN mask in server LAN network is 255.255.255.0 - I am surely missing something obvious, but Google doesn't give me any good advices; How can I access local LAN network from remote VPN client? How can I access local shared documents?

  I couldn't always ssh to my iPhone from my Mac. They're both on the same wifi network but sometimes the connection is established, sometimes it failed. • ssh-keygen works for root only?

  Does ssh-keygen -t rsa work if only set for root user i.e, if the username on local system is sodium and i generate the key using the above said command and on the remote system if i place the key in /root/.ssh authorized_keys ,this works. But on the remote system if the key is placed in /home/natrium/.ssh authorized_keys This still prompts for a password.Is this the expected behavior or is that some thing wrong in the above procedure Thanks..

• How can I recreate root dnsNode objects and their RootDNSServers folder in AD after they are deleted?

  A few days ago I was trying to permanently remove root hints from my DNS server. After much ado, I decided to go a different route and am now trying to put everything back as it was. During the original process, I opened ADUC, clicked ViewAdvanced Features, and then browsed to System MicrosoftDNS and deleted the folder RootDNSServers. Now in ADUC, I cannot create a folder here to replace the one I deleted. I can run adsiedit and load DomainDNSZones for my domain. Under there, I see MicrosoftDNS, RootDNSServers, with all of the objects still inside of it. Is there a way for me to undo what I did? Can I recreate these objects in ADUC? Can I do something else to cause them to show back up there? Thanks!

• DNS error only in IE

  Our Intranet page has stopped working on some machines/some user accounts. The error I am getting points to a DNS issue but If I ping the site from the command line the it responds fine. The error I'm gettting on IE is Error: The web filter could not find the address for the requested site Why are you seeing this: The system is unable too determine the IP address of intranet.example.com I'm not quite sure why it mentions the web filter as there is a proxy exception for the intranet page and if I run a trace route it doesn't go via the web proxy (filtering system). Finally it isn't affecting everyone, just random users, also it doesn't affect the random users on all the client machines they use. I have one user where it happens on any client they log onto where most its just certian clients. It's even "fixed" itself for a few peoples. EDIT: hey Mikey thanks for the fast response. Proxies are correct and automatic configuration is off (both via GPO)
