• Windows authetication with Silverlight custom binding.

  Hello, I am trying to set up security within a web.config file for a WCF service hosted in IIS but keep getting the error message: Security settings for this service require 'Anonymous' Authentication but it is not enabled for the IIS application that hosts this service. I have read Nicholas Allen’s blog (link text) and it appears that this is the route that I need to take. However, I am using “binaryMessageEncoding” in a customBinding for my Silverlight service, and as such, I’m not sure how to apply this type of security to such an element. This is how my custom binding looks in config at present: <customBinding> <binding name="silverlightBinaryBinding"> <binaryMessageEncoding /> <httpTransport /> </binding> </customBinding> Has anyone had any experience getting Windows authentication to work with a custom binding using binaryMessageEncoding? • How should I declare default values for instance variables in Python?

  Should I give my class members default values like this: class Foo: num = 1 or like this? class Foo: def __init__(self): self.num = 1 In this question I discovered that in both cases, bar = Foo() bar.num += 1 is a well-defined operation. I understand that the first method will give me a class variable while the second one will not. However, if I do not require a class variable, but only need to set a default value for my instance variables, are both methods equally good? Or one of them more 'pythonic' than the other? One thing I've noticed is that in the Django tutorial, they use the second method to declare Models. Personally I think the second method is more elegant, but I'd like to know what the 'standard' way is.

  Hi All, I am using require 'digest/sha1' to encrypt my password and save into database. During login I authenticate by matching the encrypted password saved in database and again encrypted the one use enter in password field. As of now everything works fine but now I want to do 'Forgot Password' functionality. To do this I need to decrypt the password which is saved in database to find original one. How to decrypt using digest/sha1? Or does anyone know any algorithm which supports encryption & decryption as well? I am using ruby on rails so I need Ruby way to accomplish it.

• Photo printing API system?

  I am looking for options to provide customers on my website a way to order prints for photos. (It is a photo sharing site, so it needs to be automated, I don't want any portfolio sites that require uploads and what not). Basically it just needs where I send them the photos, the address, (and possibly billing info) and they make the prints and mail them out. I have searched all over the place for such a system, but none seem to offer what I want. I tried hacking snapfish (which worked, but it says "Return to Picasa" on the buttons, which makes it sort of lame...) Any ideas?

• Which .NET performance and/or memory profilers will allow me to profile a DLL?

  I write a lot of .NET based plug-ins for other programs which are usually compiled as a DLL which is up to the native application to start up. I've been using Equatec's profiler, which works great, but now would like something with more features, including the ability to profile memory usage. I tried out Red Gate's Ant Profiler, but as far as I can see there is no way to profile a DLL. The only option is to profile an EXE. So my question is what other profiling tools are available that will allow me to profile a single library DLL rather than an EXE. I'm assuming this would require injecting profile code into the library as Equatec does?

• Java not working on MacOS X Leopard

  I'm running Leopard, xcode 3.1.3. When I type "java" at the command line I get this: dyld: could not load inserted library: /usr/lib/libSaturnFE.dylib Trace/BPT trap What did I do? I did do some profiling with Saturn a while back but I didn't know it was going to screw up my machine. I'm fairly sure it worked when I first installed xcode. I guess I could install a different Java SDK than the one that came with Xcode? I can't find an upgrade path for Xcode that doesn't require me to upgrade to Snow Leopard. I just don't feel like upgrading to Snow Leopard right now because I don't have good disk backups in place. edit: at least if anybody could point me to a resource or even a Mac forum where I could ask this question it would be really helpful.

• How to Check .Net 2.0 assembly for Calls to .Net 3.5

  I've found an issue I believe where an assembly is making a call to a .Net3.5 method in a .Net2.0 only environment. (None on the .Net service packs nor .Net 3.5 is installed) I'd like to know if there are any programs that I can run like FXCop to check an assembly for adherence to only making method calls that are available in .Net 2.0 without the 3.5 extensions that were added. I've been bitten by this before and I'd like to have a way to check assemblies so that before they are released they can be checked to prevent these kinds of issues. Please don't say require .Net 3.5 because whilst I'd like to go to this, it's just not possible at this point.

  I need to support the use of proxy on our application that is using WCF connections. We do not have any proxy server on our network and I don't want to disrupt our corporate network by requesting a proxy installation. I was thinking of installing a proxy server on a local virtual machine and configurating Internet Explorer so that it will challenge that proxy. I don't know what proxy software to use (I don't want to install ISA server) and I don't know how to configure one. Does someone have any suggestion for a easy to use software that will require an authentication for any WCF services and do you have any guideline that would be helpful to know when testing a software against a proxy?

  I have an abstract class Moveable with the method abstract void move() which is extended by the class Bullet and the abstract class Character, and Character is extended by the class Survivor and the class Zombie. In Survivor and Bullet the move() method doesnt require any parameters while in the class Zombie the move() method depends on the actual position of the survivor. The survivor and multiple zombies are created in the class Gui. I wanted to access the survivor in Zombie - what's the best way of doing this? In Gui i wrote a method getSurvivor() but i don't see how to access this method in Zombie? I am aware that as a workaround i could just pass a [Survivor survivor] as parameter in move() and ignore it in Bullet and Survivor, but that feels so ... bad practice.

• Displaying "broken" sprites?

  I'm quite new to the world of 2D-Engines. I figured out how to load images and display those as sprites and stuff, but theres one question that bugs me. For instance, when a "rocket" hits an object it will deal damage to it and leave a crater behind. I'd like to have the crater shown on that object. That would require "skipping" some of the pixels of that image when rendering, doesn't it? My question is, how would you do such a thing? What data strcture would you use to save this? How to display a "broken" sprite?

• VisualSVN Server + Trac Authentication Problems

  I have Trac set up on my VisualSVN server (using Subversion authentication), however every time I navigate to the Trac home page after opening the browser, I get the basic authentication dialog asking me for my username/password. What I would like to do is have a login form in Trac, which would allow me to log in forever using cookies. I have tried installing the AccountManagerPlugin, but I am completely unsure of how to correctly set it up. (I am used to working with IIS on corporate intranets, so this is kind of alien to me) I have managed to bypass the basic authentication dialog by setting this in my httpd-custom.conf: AuthName "Trac" AuthType Basic AuthBasicProvider file AuthUserFile "E:/Repositories/htpasswd" #Require valid-user I have tried using SvnServePasswordStore as my password store but I do not know which of the files in the repository directory to point it at. Help would be appreciated!

• Getting a PasteScript error when I try to serve an existing Pylons app.

  I'm trying to serve an existing Python 2.5 Pylons application on OS X Snow Leopard. I've already installed Python 2.5 and set it as the default Python installation, installed paster, and installed the version of Pylons the app needs (0.9.6.1) as well as other eggs... but when I cd to the main folder and do "paster serve development.ini" I get the following: File "/usr/local/bin/paster", line 5, in <module> from pkg_resources import load_entry_point File "/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/Extras/lib/python/pkg_resources.py", line 2603, in <module> File "/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/Extras/lib/python/pkg_resources.py", line 666, in require File "/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/Extras/lib/python/pkg_resources.py", line 565, in resolve pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound: PasteScript==1.7.3 I definitely have done "easy_install PasteScript==1.7.3" and I still get this error. • How do I determine inactivity in a MVVM application?

  I have an MVVM kiosk application that I need to restart when it has been inactive for a set amount of time. I'm using Prism and Unity to facilitate the MVVM pattern. I've got the restarting down and I even know how to handle the timer. What I want to know is how to know when activity, that is any mouse event, has taken occurred. The only way I know how to do that is by subscribing to the preview mouse events of the main window. That breaks MVVM thought, doesn't it? I've thought about exposing my window as an interface that exposes those events to my application, but that would require that the window implement that interface which also seems to break MVVM.

  I would like to create an ASP.NET MVC web application which has extensible logic that does not require a re-build. I was thinking of creating a filter which had an instance of the IronPython engine. What I would like to know is: how much overhead is there in creating a new engine during each web request, and would it be a better idea to keep a static engine around? However, if I were to keep a single static engine around, what are the issues I might run into as far as locking and script scope? Is it possible to have multiple scopes in the same IropPython engine so I don't get variable collision and security issues between web requests?

• Opening IProject properties when another (adaptable to IProject) object is selected

  I have a custom view displaying a hierarchy model of the current project. The root element is of class MyProject which is my own class, but it represents one Eclipse IProject, and it's adaptable to IProject. I have a "properties" menu option in the popup menu for that view, and I'd like to open up IProject's properties when a MyProject object is selected. PropertyDialogAction only looks for property pages registered for MyProject and doesn't give me a chance to offer an adapter -- or, at least, I don't know how to offer one. What's the proper solution for this? In the meantime, I've overridden PropertyDialogAction to handle my class in the special way I require, but that seems like quite a kludge to get this done.

• Sharing a database connection with included classes in a Sinatra application

  I'm converting a part of a rails application to its own sinatra application. It has some beefy work to do and rather than have a million helps in app.rb, I've separated some of it out into classes. Without access to rails I'm rewriting finder several methods and needing access to the database inside of my class. What's the best way to share a database connection between your application and a class? Or would you recommend pushing all database work into its own class and only having the connection established there? • In Node.JS, how do I return an entire object from a separate .js file?

I am new to Node.js and trying to figure out how to request an object from a separate file (rather than just requesting a function) but everything I try--exports,module-exports,etc--is failing. So, for example, if I have foo.js: var methods = { Foobar:{ getFoo: function(){return "foo!!";}, getBar: function(){return "bar!!";} } }; And now I want to call a function within an object of foo.js from index.js: var m = require('./Methods'); function fooMain(){ return m.Foobar.getFoo(); }; How do I do this?   Unlike the other posts about the task "delete all tables", this question is specifically about using SqlCommand to access the database. A coworker is facing the problem that no matter how it attempts it, he can't delete all tables from a database via SqlCommand. He states that he can't perform such action as long as there is an active connection - the connection by the SqlCommand itself. I believe this should be possible and easy, but I don't have much of a clue about databases so I came here to ask. • Website with Microsites & Blog - recommendations

  Hi guys, I'm in the process of scoping a solution for an events organisation. Their main website features information about them and blog entries etc, but they hold major events which require microsites (domain.com/event). The microsites all have a different look-and-feel, different nav structure, and custom content-managed components. The one thing that's common across everything is the blog - it will have a category for each event under which users can post. The main site will display all blog posts, but the microsites will only display posts for their category. How would you guys implement this? The solution needs to be PHP, and my initial thought was CodeIgniter but if possible I'd like to avoid building the blog functionality - so I guess I could integrate it with EE or Wordpress. If anyone has any other suggestions they would be most appreciated.

What I want is to read all post titles, compare those against the RSS feed, then only post to Wordpress where the post titles dont exist.   I am developing a website but require help regarding a simple javascript audio player. Currently, I have four divs set up as the "buttons" : previous song; pause; play; and next song. Pretty much self explanatory, each button serves its obvious function, previous song, pause the song, play the song, and next song. With this in mind, I am also hoping to have the music start playing right after the page completes loading. I understand there are numerous javascript solutions that involve the use of third-party "applications" such as jplayer, however, I am not well learned in javascript and would like to request the aid of the general body in this matter. • Is it possible to tie a subscription to a iTunes account with in-app purhcase?

  We're trying to implement a subscription service with in-app purchase in our app. The problem is our service does not require a user account for the past year of service. Users simply use this service with advertisements shown. We want to give them a subscription where they can buy for say, 3 months to have the advertisement removed. How can this be done? We'll have to make it a consumable because it is a subscription. But we wouldn't know when the subscription end. We can't save the state locally because the user might reinstall the app We can't save the state on the server and tie it to their device because sometimes the user changes device We don't have a user account to tie the subscription to and we don't want to introduce a user account system which spoils the experience. Is there some way of associating the purchase with their iTunes account? So that it is carried with them when they reinstall or changes device?
