• MySQL, how can I SELECT WHERE one field value doesn't occurs in another?

  I'm trying to do a search on my test server, speed isn't so important. I want to find if a phrase, the whole contents of one field, occurs in any part (as a whole) doesn't occur in another field. Heres my current query which finds if the phrase does occur SELECT pads.padid, pads.programname, keywords.word FROM Pads JOIN keywords ON Pads.Padid = keywords.Padid WHERE pads.Programname = keywords.word AND RemoveMeDate = '2001-01-01 00:00:00' My problem is that the field word contains other words too. I need to produce a count of where there isn't a keywords record with keywords.word equal to pads.programname ? EDIT: So if I have these records Pads: PadID=3 ProgramName=my prog PadID=4 ProgramName=Bad prog PadID=5 ProgramName=Good prog PadID=6 ProgramName=other prog Keywords: PadID=3 word=fox prog PadID=3 word=pig prog PadID=4 word=big prog PadID=4 word=nice prog PadID=5 word=fox prog PadID=6 word=bad prog PadID=6 word=fox prog The query I want would retun a count of 3 and record 6 has bad prog

• Most efficient way for a lookup/search in a huge list (python)

  Hey guys, -- I just parsed a big file and I created a list containing 42.000 strings/words. I want to query [against this list] to check if a given word/string belongs to it. So my question is: What is the most efficient way for such a lookup? A first approach is to sort the list [list.sort()] and then just use the if word in list: print 'word' -- which is really trivial and I am sure there is a better way to do it. My goal is to apply a fast lookup that finds whether a given string is in this list or not. If you have any ideas of another data structure, they are welcome. Yet, I want to avoid for now more sophisticated data-structures like Tries etc. I am interested in hearing ideas (or tricks) about fast lookups or any other python library methods that might do the search faster than the simple 'in'. • Matlab GUI - How to get the previous value entered from a callback function?

  Hi, I know that this is probably a simple problem but I am new to Matlab GUI's and basically want to get the old value which used to be stored in the text box to replace the value which has just been entered. E.g. Text box contains a valid string, User enters invalid string, Callback func, validates input and realises new input is an error and reverts to the old previous value. How should this be implemented or done? Atm I am just using the get and set property values.   I need to parse some large text file and extract Display name and area code only if it matches the following pattern: Line starts with display name (any number of words) Followed by 6 digits (can contain spaces) Followed by #text tag e.g. John doe 123 456 #text some text Display name: John doe Area code: 123 456 Test 123456 #text Display name: Test Area code: 123456 Test 123 #test Invalid, area code contains only 3 digits Test 123456 #test1 Invalid, contains invalid tag Test 123g45 #test Invalid, area code contains letters etc. I know how to open the text file and read it line by line, but having trouble with writing the regular expression. • Jquery: How do I fire/play a sound file when I want?

  I have some code that basically inflates a 'balloon' through 15 or so stages and then makes it pop at the 16th stage. (yes, images are changed). What I'm wondering now is if it's possible to use Jquery to play a sound file whenever I reach that 16th stage (or when whatever var reaches whatever value) - in other words...when I want. I've found several jquery sound plugins but they all create this player which I must then click for it to play the file. • JAXWS and sessions

  I'm fairly new to writing web services. I'm working on a SOAP service using JAXWS. I'd like to be able to have users log-in and in my service know which user is issuing a command. In other words, have some session handling. One way I've seen to do this is to use cookies and access the HTTP layer from my web service. However, this puts a dependency on using HTTP as the transport layer (I'm aware HTTP is almost always the transport layer but I'm a purist). Is there a better approach which keeps the service layer unaware of the transport layer? Is there some way I can accomplish this with servlet filters? I'd like the answer to be as framework agnostic as possible.

• Transition between many Views in ViewFlipper ?

  Hi guys, I am using "ViewFlipper" for my application. This ViewFlipper includes 5 layouts. I am trying make it that can be changed from current layout to any layout. In other words, it can be changed Layout#1 - Layout#5 or Layout#4 - Layout#1 ..etc. How to make it ? I used showNext() and showPrevious(). It is not better idea for my case. Can I use ViewSwither instead of this case ? Please advice. Can you give example code related this issue ? Thanks in advance.

• Would an immutable keyword in Java be a good idea?

  Generally speaking, the more I use immutable objects in Java the more I'm thinking they're a great idea. They've got lots of advantages from automatically being thread-safe to not needing to worry about cloning or copy constructors. This has got me thinking, would an "immutable" keyword go amiss? Obviously there's the disadvantages with adding another reserved word to the language, and I doubt it will actually happen primarily for the above reason - but ignoring that I can't really see many disadvantages. At present great care has to be taken to make sure objects are immutable, and even then a dodgy javadoc comment claiming a component object is immutable when it's in fact not can wreck the whole thing. There's also the argument that even basic objects like string aren't truly immutable because they're easily vunerable to reflection attacks. If we had an immutable keyword the compiler could surely recursively check and give an iron clad guarantee that all instances of a class were immutable, something that can't presently be done. Especially with concurrency becoming more and more used, I personally think it'd be good to add a keyword to this effect. But are there any disadvantages or implementation details I'm missing that makes this a bad idea?

I've searched Google and grepped the CXF source code, but don't see anything in the docs or code that reference this. Any idea how to make the client send "SoapCompressed: off" instead, without routing it through Apache HTTPD or the like? Is there a way to configure it at the CXF client, in other words?

  Programmatically. (alt. programmically) I've never used it, but I see it in questions a lot, i.e. "How to programmatically determine [insert task here]". Firefox immediately tells me that neither of these two words are real (at least, it doesn't recognize them). I've also never seen them used anywhere but here. 1) What does it mean to do/determine something "programmatically"? 2) Why do so many people ask how to do/determine something "programmatically"? Isn't it assumed that, if you're asking how to do something on a programming help board, you're asking how to do it "programmatically"? 3) Why is it that I've never seen the word "programmatically" anywhere else?

• The document.body.innerHTML.replace() replaces the url in the address bar.

  I am trying to make an extension as part of which i want certain words in the web pages to be highlighted. The document.body.innerHTML.replace() replaces the url in the address bar as well. So the moment this code gets exwecuted the page doesnt get loaded properly.. • PHP/MySQL: Check if something 'belongs-to' something else?

  I have two tables: Stores and Items. The relationship is: Stores 1---* Items In PHP/MySQL what would be the best (fastest/simplest) way to check if a particular item belongs to a particular store. In other words given for example: $store_id = 1; $item_id = 12; I want to check if item 12 belongs to store 1 (and not some other store). I usually do a select on Items matching both the store_id and item_id and limit the results to 1. Then check how many rows (0 or 1) were returned with mysql_num_rows. Is there a better way? Update: Both tables have an "id" column. The Items table has a "store_id" column.

• Which external DSLs do you like to use?

  The reason I'm asking is because right now there seems to be tendency to make DSLs internal. One example is LINQ in C# and VB. You can use it against in-memory objects, or you can use it as a replacement of SQL or other external DSL. Another example is HTML5 vs XHTML2. XHTML2 supported decentralized extensibility through namespaces, in other words you embed external DSL code (XForms, SVG, MathML, etc.) in your XHTML code. Sadly HTML5 doesn't seem to have such mechanism, instead new features are internal (e.g. <canvas> instead of SVG). I'd like to know what other developers think about this. Do you like using external DSLs ? Which ones ? If not, why ?

• AsyncTask Threading Rule - Can it really only be used once?

  In the documentation on AsyncTask it gives the following as a rule related to threading: The task can be executed only once (an exception will be thrown if a second execution is attempted.) All this means is that you have to create a new instance of the class every time you want to use it, right? In other words, it must be done like this: new DownloadFilesTask().execute(url1, url2, url3); new DownloadFilesTask().execute(url4, url5, url6); Or conversely, you can NOT do the following: DownloadFilesTask dfTask = new DownloadFilesTask(); dfTask().execute(url1, url2, url3); dfTask().execute(url4, url5, url6); Can someone verify this is an accurate interpretation? I realize I pretty much just answered this for myself as I was typing this out... But it wasn't immediately obvious to me so I think this would be useful to have posted nonetheless.

  hi, so i have a table lets say call it "tbl.items" and there is a column "title" in "tbl.items" i want to loop through each row and for each "title" in "tbl.items" i want to do following: the column has the datatype nvarchar(max) and contains a string... filter the string to remove words like in,out, where etc (stopwords) compare the rest of the string to a predefined list and if there is a match perform some action which involves inserting data in other tables as well.. the problem is im ignotent when it comes to writing T-sql scripts, plz help and guide me how can i achieve this? whether it can be achieved by writing a sql script?? or i have to develope a console application in c# or anyother language?? im using mssql server 2008 thanks in advance

• Force line-buffering of stdout when piping to tee

  Usually, stdout is line-buffered. In other words, as long as your printf argument ends with a newline, you can expect the line to be printed instantly. This does not appear to hold when using a pipe to redirect to tee. I have a C++ program, a, that outputs strings, always \n-terminated, to stdout. When it is run by itself (./a), everything prints correctly and at the right time, as expected. However, if I pipe it to tee (./a | tee output.txt), it doesn't print anything until it quits, which defeats the purpose of using tee. I know that I could fix it by adding a fflush(stdout) after each printing operation in the C++ program. But is there a cleaner, easier way? Is there a command I can run, for example, that would force stdout to be line-buffered, even when using a pipe?

• Documenting software architectures that serve multiple markets

  Hello, I'm the lead developer/architect wanna-be on a J2EE based system/platform at work that serves both real estate and automotive markets. The systems consists of a set of database back ends, web services and two web clients. The platform ends up serving 3 different products: an internal vehicle inventory system for use by company analysts, an external dealer management system (commercialized product), and a real estate inventory system (commercialized). In other words, it follows a software product lines approach....My question is, I'm having trouble communicating to other technical and some business people how this platform architecture is one system that serves multiple markets (by leveraging some existing assets combined with minor modifications)....Is there a formal modeling language that can simplify communicating this intent? I should note that I haven't read much about software product lines, so I'm not sure if there is actually a standard modeling approach to SPL that i'm not aware of....I'm also interested in knowing if there are special configuration management practices for such systems. thanks,

• Mysql replace() function, help with query (what chars do I escape?)

  I am trying to update an old cms where images were stored in /images/editor/, they are now stored in a bucket on amazon s3. I'm trying to update the database using mysql replace. I've done this in the past with replacing simple words, but now Mysql is reporting an error, I suspect because this is more than a simple word: UPDATE contents SET desc = replace(desc, '/images/editor/', 'http://s3.amazonaws.com/my_bucket/editor/') Do I need to escape the : or slashes? I've tried escaping it with a '\' to no avail. Can someone get me pointed in the right direction? Thanks!   I am developing a C# VS 2008 / SQL Server 2008 ASP.NET Web Applications project. In one of my ASPX files I am trying to reference the Master file, which is actually located in the parent website. In other words, when I open the parent website, I see this project listed. But when I open this project separately, I do not see parent website and this project is the root. So now how do I use the Master file from the parent website? Currently, I have in my ASPX file: <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Site.Master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="EnhancedCreateUserWizard.aspx.cs" Inherits="Membership_EnhancedCreateUserWizard" Title="Untitled Page" %> But this won't work because it is a virtual path and since this project is the root, I can't access the Master file virtually. Instead I want to specify physical path. How accomplish I do this?

  I have a localized string which needs to take a few variables. However, in localization it is important that the order of the variables can change from language to language. So this is not a good idea: NSString *text = NSLocalizedString(@"My birthday is at %@ %@ in %@", nil); In some languages some words come before others, while in others it's reverse. I lack of an good example at the moment. How would I provide NAMED variables in a formatted string? Is there any way to do it without some heavy self-made string replacements? Even some numbered variables like {%@1}, {%@2}, and so on would be sufficient... is there a solution?

Is it possible to create forms 'on-the fly' so to speak in MS-Access 2007 I have a structure of tables: tblCustomer tblQuestAns A customer may answer the questionnaire answers many times as they relate to all products. I propose to hopefully have an initial input form that will ask how many products of which there could be more than 1 eg: TV, Video (say the user selects 2) On entering that data the next form should hopefully update itself to include the list of questions eg TV Q1, Q2 Q3 - Video (1) Q1, Q2 Q3 - Video (2) Q1, Q2 Q3 Is that possible?   I'm trying to extract the postal codes from yell.com using php and preg_replace. I successfully extracted the postal code but only along with the address. Here is an example $URL = "http://www.yell.com/ucs/UcsSearchAction.do?scrambleSeed=17824062&keywords=shop&layout=&companyName=&location=London&searchType=advance&broaderLocation=&clarifyIndex=0&clarifyOptions=CLOTHES+SHOPS|CLOTHES+SHOPS+-+LADIES|&ooa=&M=&ssm=1&lCOption32=RES|CLOTHES+SHOPS+-+LADIES&bandedclarifyResults=1"; //get yell.com page in a string $htmlContent = $baseClass-getContent($URL); //get postal code along with the address $result2 = preg_match_all("/(.*)/", $htmlContent, $matches); print_r($matches); The above code ouputs something like Array ( [0] = Array ( [0] = 7, Royal Parade, Chislehurst, Kent BR7 6NR [1] = 55, Monmouth St, London, WC2H 9DG .... the problem that I have is that I don't know how to extract the the postal code because it doesn't have an exact number of digits (sometimes it has 6 digits and sometimes has only 5 times). Basically I should extract the lasted 2 words from each array . Thank you in advance for any help !
