  • Oracle WebCenter: Composite Applications & Mash-Ups

    We’ve talked in previous weeks about the key goals of the new release of WebCenter are providing a Modern User Experience, unparalleled Application Integration, converging all the best of the existing portal platforms into WebCenter and delivering a Common User Experience Architecture.  We’ve provided an overview of Oracle WebCenter and discussed some of the other key goals in previous weeks, and this week, we’ll focus on how with the new release of Oracle WebCenter you can create composite applications and mashups.We recently talked with Sachin Agarwal, Director of Product Management of Enterprise 2.0 at Oracle around the topic of Composite Applications and Mashups. Oracle WebCenter provides a rich set of tools and capabilities for pulling in content, applications and collaboration functionality from various different sources and weaving them together into what we call Mashups. Mashups that also consists of transactional applications from multiple sources are specifically called Composite Applications. With the latest release of Oracle WebCenter one can develop highly productive tasked based interfaces that aggregate a related set of applications that are part of a business process and provide in context collaboration tools so that users don’t have to navigate away to different tabs to achieve these tasks. For instance, a call center representative (CSR), not only needs to be able to pull customer information from a CRM application like Siebel, but also related information from Oracle E-Business Suite about whether a specific order has shipped. The CSR will be far more efficient if he or she does not have to open different tabs to login into multiple applications while the customer is waiting, but can access all this information in one mashup.Oracle WebCenter Suite provides a comprehensive set of tooling that enables a business user to quickly aggregate together a mashup and wire-in different backend applications to create a custom dashboard. Not only does Oracle WebCenter supports a wide set of standards (WSRP 1.0, 2.0, JSR 168, JSR 286) that allow portlets  from other applications to be surfaced within WebCenter, but it also provides tools to bring in other web applications such as .Net Applications  as well as SharePoint webparts. The new Business Mash-up editor allows business users to take any Oracle Application or 3rd party application and wire the backend data sources or APIs to a rich set of visualizations and reuse them in mashups.  Moreover, Business users can customize or personalize any page using Oracle WebCenter Composer’s on-the-fly visual page editing features.   • Make Browsing Safer for Children in Google Chrome

    If you are worried about the websites that your children could accidentally visit while browsing, then you may want to have a look at the Kid Safe – LinkExtend extension for Google Chrome. Kid Safe – LinkExtend in Action Before going any further you may want to have a quick look at the options. Everything is enabled by default but it is recommended that you disable the “Allow entering unsafe sites Option”. For our first example we visited “chatroulette.com”. As you can see in the screenshot WOT and McAfee SiteAdvisor gave the website a “green rating” but when it came specifically to its’ level of appropriateness for children LinkExtend gave it a “yellow rating”. Our second example was “hotbabes.com”…obviously not a good website for any child to visit. You can see that the entire window area has been totally “blacked out” and the available information for this site from each of the six ratings sources. The “Toolbar Button” is also displaying a “red rating”… Notice the two links at the bottom of the ratings screen…both will be visible if the “Allow entering unsafe sites Option” is not disabled (see Options above). You can see the difference for the links at the bottom of the ratings screen if you have the “Allow entering unsafe sites Option” disabled. Definitely much much better… Clicking on the “Find Kids Sites Link” will navigate the tab to the Yahoo! Kids website. The extension will also place “ratings buttons” beside search results at Google. As you can see in the screenshot below not all of the results had information available for them at this time. But it is certainly a lot better than nothing at all when it comes to keeping your children safe. A close-up look at the ratings for one of the search results. Conclusion While no browser add-in makes for a perfect solution the Kid Safe – LinkExtend extension will definitely be a helpful addition to your family’s Chrome browser.     I am looking for a dark, contrast theme. Most dark, high-contrast themes I have tried do not give sufficient contrast to many edges, such as the edges of buttons, tabs, windows and other borders. Could you recommend themes that would provide such features?   • iOS UITab Bar Icons

    I’ve been struggling trying to create the icons that are used for different tabs on an iPhone app. The difficulty is, is that each image is a PNG,  but alpha channels are used to represent their selected state. In 11.1.1.7 we do not have out of the box support for navigational flows but this is surely on our road-map.Until then this simple approach might meet some of the requirements.   • BizTalk: namespaces

    BizTalk team did a good job hiding the .NET guts from developers. Developers are working with editors and hardly with .NET code. The Orchestration editor, the Mapper, the Schema editor, the Pipeline editor, all these editors hide what is going on with artifacts created and deployed. Working with the BizTalk artifacts year after year brings us some knowledge which could help to understand more about the .NET guts. I would like to highlight the .NET namespaces. What they are, how they influence our everyday tasks in the BizTalk application development. What is it? Most of the BizTalk artifacts are compiled into the NET classes. Not all of them… but I will show you later. Classes are placed inside the namespaces. I will not describe here why we need namespaces and what is it. I assume you all know about it more then me. Here I would like to emphasize that almost each BizTalk artifact is implemented as a .NET class within a .NET namespace. Where to see the namespaces in development? The namespaces are inconsistently spread across the artifact parameters. Let’s start with namespace placement in development. Then we go with namespaces in deployment and operations. I am using pictures from the BizTalk Server 2013 Beta and the Visual Studio 2012 but there was no changes regarding the namespaces starting from the BizTalk 2006. Default namespace When a new BizTalk project is created, the default namespace is set up the same as a name of a project. This namespace would be used for all new BizTalk artifacts added to this project. Orchestrations When we select a green or a red markers (the Begin and End orchestration shapes) we will see the orchestration Properties window. We also can click anywhere on the space between Port Surfaces to see this window.   Schemas The only way to see the NET namespace for map is selecting the schema file name into the Solution Explorer. Notes: We can also see the Type Name parameter. It is a name of the correspondent .NET class. We can also see the Fully Qualified Name parameter. We cannot see the schema namespace when selecting any node on the schema editor surface. Only selecting a schema file name gives us a namespace parameter. If we select a <Schema> node we can get the Target Namespace parameter of the schema. This is NOT the .NET namespace! It is an XML namespace. See this XML namespace inside the XML schema, it is shown as a special targetNamespace attribute Here this XML namespace appears inside the XML document itself. It is shown as a special xmlns attribute.   Maps It is similar to the schemas. The only way to see the NET namespace for map is selecting a map file name into the Solution Explorer. Pipelines It is similar to the schemas. The only way to see the NET namespace for pipeline is selecting a pipeline file name into the Solution Explorer. z Ports, Policies and Tracking Profiles The Send and Receive Ports, the Policies and the BAM Tracking Profiles do not create the .NET classes and they do not have the associated .NET namespaces. How to copy artifacts? Since the new versions of the BizTalk Server are going to production I am spending more and more time redesigning and refactoring the BizTalk applications. It is good to know how the refactoring process copes with the .NET namespaces. Let see what is going on with the namespaces when we copy the artifacts from one project to another. Here is an example: I am going to group the artifacts under the project folders. So, I have created a Group folder, have run the Add / Existing Item.. command and have chosen all artifacts in the project root. The artifact copies were created in the Group folder: What was happened with the namespaces of the artifacts? As you can see, the folder name, the “Group”, was added to the namespace. It is great! When I added a folder, I have added one more level in the name hierarchy and the namespace change just reflexes this hierarchy change.  The same namespace adjustment happens when we copy the BizTalk artifacts between the projects. But there is an issue with the namespace of an orchestration. It was not changed. The namespaces of the schemas, maps, pipelines are changed but not the orchestration namespace. I have to change the orchestration namespace manually. Now another example: I am creating a new Project folder and moving the artifacts there from the project root by drag and drop. We will mention the artifact namespaces are not changed. Another example: I am copying the artifacts from the project root by (drag and drop) + Ctrl. We will mention the artifact namespaces are changed. It works exactly as it was with the Add / Existing Item.. command. Conclusion: The namespace parameter is put inconsistently in different places for different artifacts Moving artifacts changes the namespaces of the schemas, maps, pipelines but not the orchestrations.

  • revived closed tab in chrome doesn't work properly, but works correctly in IE and Firefox

    I'm working on a website where information is loaded from a calendar. If a user clicks on a link on the calendar, it displays information about that link. If I close that page, and then re-open it, it works properly on both IE and Firefox, but if I open it in chrome, and click on another item on the calendar it instead errors out. Is there a large difference in how chrome brings back tabs from how IE or Firefox do that would cause this?

  • Nautilus statusbar visibilty - Quickly check free space

    In prior versions, I would open Nautilus and check the statusbar, which would tell me how much free space there is. Now, the statusbar isn't shown by default. I know you can enable it from the View menu, but 99% of users won't do that (and I'd rather not do that, if possible). So, is there some new recommended way to keep tabs on hard drive usage? Or is there maybe some other method that I should have been using in the past but never noticed?

  • Iframe scrolls over the fixed header in IE 11 , how to make it scroll under/behind the header?

    In my html page, I have a header and its position is fixed. In the contant or body of the page I have an Iframe to display a youtube video and other DIV tabs. In other browsers like chrome, Morzilla etc all the contants schrolls behind the header and works fine!!. But In IE (IE 11), only the youtube video in Iframe scrolls over/aboves the header. How can I make it to scroll behind the header in IE. Thank in advance

  • ReadyBoost in Windows 7

    I've bought an SD card today for my phot frame, but when I inserted it into my notebook I saw I could use it for ReadyBoost. Some background I'm a .net developer, using VMs and developing web applications (and Sharepoint). I use an HP notebook machine with Core 2 Duo 2GHz + 4GB RAM + 320 7200 HD. I simultaneously run Visual Studio 2010 with some plugins SQL Server Firefox with at least 10 tabs Chrome with about 5 tabs IIS VM with Server 2008 machine Sharepoint and occasionally also Photoshop and some InDesign as well. So I don't let my machine have a break. :D Question If I buy myself some really fast SDHC card (like SanDisk 16GB Extreme 30MB/s - is there anything faster) and use it with my Windows 7 ReadyBoost, will I see any performance gain? Is it going to work something similar to Seagate's HybridDrive Momentus with 4GB of solid state drive? What could I actually expect if I do put this card into my machine? And what would be recommended size? Observations I guess redirecting page file to it would speed up the system. Some VM machines on it would probably run faster as well because they could run parallel to HD host system I guess. Am I right or wrong?

  • I love google Chrome, but some non-static pages like Piwik render it unresponsive

    The web-stat software Piwik stops reacting on mouse clicks after 1-2 seconds. The same is true for Google Maps and Producteev (but GMail and most other pages work like a charm). These rely heavily on JS, and work without Flash. I can click for a very short time period and then the mouse cursor doesn't feel the UI anymore (it doesn't turn into a I over input fields, though it moves; if the freeze occured while the pointer was over an input field, the cursor keeps being a I) and all clicks on the DOM are being ignored by Chrome. No message appears, neither obvious nor in the Console (F12). There is no obstructing div or the like in the DOM (F12). Since I couldn't find any hints on the source of my problems, I suspected my plugins and extensions. Unfortunately, neither deactivating all plugins nor all extensions solved the problem. for the problematic pages, it always happens no Dropbox running several GB of free RAM the taskmanager doesn't show any high CPU or memory utilization (the offending tab uses 30 MB and uses 0-1 % CPU) all problematic pages work in other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE) the rest of the computer is very responsive the computers use different security suites (Kaspersky and Avira) The effect exists between several (synchronized) Chrome instances on different machines, all running Windows 7. Both the OS and Chrome are updated automatically. Other tabs and the Chrome chrome (tabs, menus, toolbar buttons of the browser itself) still work. I really don't like switching between browsers. Any ideas?

  • Opera 10.5 RAM usage and Google Reader?

    Hi all, Today I upgraded to Opera 10.5 from Google Chrome and I have two really important questions about it. 1) Is it normal for it to use SO MUCH RAM!!!!? Closing tabs doesn't help, but opening new ones add on to the usage. I can have just 4 tabs open and it goes up to the 300MB mark and I only have 1.5GB in my laptop, 596MB of it used by the graphics card so this really unacceptable. Is there a way to fix it? 2) Why does Google Reader feel so slow and unresponsive on it? It lags so bad when I just try scrolling through the page. I know Opera is known for being really smooth while scrolling through pages. There's also a white bar at the bottom of the page that I can get rid of. It blocks the "Next" and "Previous" buttons. The test between articles is also sort of intersecting each other and that just looks completely unattractive and that's something i'm not used with any web browser. I realize there's a built-in RSS reader, but it doesn't sync across multiple computers and is very late at updating. Here are my specs: Windows 7 Ultimate (x86), Intel Pentium M 1.86 GHz, 1.5GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon X600 (64MB dedicated, 596MB shared)

  • Strange focus bug in Firefox (chrome vs content)

    Here is a strange bug I'm experiencing in Firefox: I can only use either the chrome, or the content, not both at the same time! For example, I can click on tabs and the toolbar icons, focus the search bar and write in it as well as the address bar, but if I try to click on anything in the content (eg a link or a textfield to write something), then nothing happens. The mouse pointer doesn't change either, it just stays a pointer when I hover over things, and the links I hover don't react either. But if I alt-tab to another program (or click on it in the taskbar), then back to Firefox, then I can use the area that I click on. So if I click somewhere on the webpage to get focus back to Firefox, then I can click on links and write things (like this text), but I cannot click on tabs or refresh or anything else in the chrome. I can't even click on the minimize, restore and close icons! To get focus back on the chrome I have to alt-tab to another program, and then click on the chrome to get back to Firefox to be able to use the chrome again. I've tried closing and starting it again, but the bug is still there. I have experienced this before, but I don't remember what I did to fix it. This bug seems to occur sometimes when I wake up the computer from standby, but I leave by computer in standby all the time, so that is not the only factor.

  • Excel 2007 - "The macro may not be available in this workbook" Error

    We use an Excel sheet that has been protected to prevent modification of it from end users. All in all they are only able to edit certain tabs to add information that will then be used to generate information on other tabs using equations and such. On the tab with the equations, a button is present called "Prep for Internal Hard Copy Print." This button runs a macro that selects the information on the tab, unprotects it, then sends a print job to the user's default printer that contains the unprotected content. Normally this works like a champ. This time around, however, the macro is throwing the following error: Cannot run the macro "FILENAME.xlsx'!MacroName'. The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be disabled. As far as I can tell, the macros are still present within the workbook. This sheet is normally a .xlsm though the user saved it with a different filename as a .xlsx. Also, the macros appear only as MacroName in the .xlsm file and not "FILENAME.xlsx'!MacroName' as it does in the .xlsx. Finally, when I open the .xlsm it asks if I want to enable the macro content while the .xlsx does not prompt for this. Can anyone tell me what's going on with this sheet or know of a way that I can get the macros working in the .xlsx without having to start over with a different sheet?

  • How to make multiple Excel files open in ONE window/instance of Excel 2003 in Win 7

    I'm running Excel 2003 on my new Windows 7 machine. (There is also a Excel 2010 starter pre installed that I do not use). I'm a heavy user of Excel. I use it all day every day. I often have 10 or 15 sheets open and once and many of them have cell references to each other. I also have a macro file that keeps all my short cuts. On my old W2K machine when I clicked on a .xls file or a shortcut to one to it would open that file in the existing instance of Excel. This is as it should be. I would have many files open, in only one "window" or instance of Excel. All the files could interact with each other, the cross file lookups worked, my macros worked and I could switch between workbooks with CTRL Tab or CTRL F6, I could move tabs from one workbook to another. On the new W7 machine clicking on an icon opens a NEW INSTANCE of Excel every time. This is terribly frustrating. None of my connecting spreadsheets work anymore. My macros don't work. I can't connect files, I can't move tabs. I'm stuck. I can't do my work! I can still open files in one instance by doing a CTRL-O and navigating, but I need to my files to work on a click. I'm guessing this is a flaw in the registry files, possibly because of the starter Excel 2010 that came preloaded on my new machine. Can you walk me through a registry edit to fix this bug? Is there an easier way than a registry edit?

    I want to clean up my bookmark folders by getting rid of duplicated/links. i have created a program which will import 2 text files which contains a URL like this File 1: http://www.google/com http://anime.stackexchange.com/ https://www.fanfiction.net/guidelines/ https://www.fanfiction.net/anime/Magical-Girl-Lyrical-Nanoha/?&srt=1&g1=2&lan=1&r=103&s=2 File 2: http://scifi.stackexchange.com/ http://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/56142/why-didnt-dumbledore-just-hunt-voldemort-down http://anime.stackexchange.com/ http://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/5650/how-can-the-doctor-be-poisoned the program compares the 2 lists and creates a single master list with duplicate URLs removed. Now i have a few Backup bookmark folders in Firefox which on occasion i'll bookmark all tabs into a new folder with the date of the backup before i close off tabs or do reset my PC. each folder can have between 1000-2000 bookmarks, sometimes there are a bunch of pages which keep getting bookmarked, ie, i have ~50 pages on the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Wiki on different spells, character and terminology which i commonly look back on. I'd like to know how i can export a bookmark folder so i have a list of URLs similar to what i use in my program
