• Lazy Load images on Listview in android(Beginner Level)?

  Hi all, I am working on the listview with the custom adapter. I want to load the images and text view on it. The images are load from the internet urls. I just want to show the images which are visible list item to hte user. I refered the Shelves opensource project example from romainguy, but its to complicated to understand the code. For a beginner level, I just want to know how to handle the tag between the adapter and activity. From the commonsware example I can set the tag on adapter, but can't show the corresponding image at the idle state of the listview. Please help me with your ideas. Sample codes are more understandable. Thanks. EDIT: The combination of Efficient and Slow Adapter in ApiDemos is more helpful to understand.

• Markdown for .NET/C#?

  is there a way i can have markdown in .NET/C# application? i wonder shld i store the data in HTML or markdown text? if i store the data in HTML, when the user edits, they will see HTML, but if i store in Markdown, everytime i display, i got to convert to HTML(slow?) or store the HTML in another column, will it waste too much space? i understand markdown.net maybe used for this site. isit true? but heard its not updated since 2004/5?

• How do I prevent flickering on CListCtrl?

  I'm using a CListCtrl/CListView report view (LVS_REPORT) in virtual mode (LVS_OWNERDATA) with LVS_EX_DOUBLEBUFFER enabled and I encounter ugly flickering. Double buffer have a real effect but it doesn't stop all flickering (without it very slow). I'm not looking for switching to other controls that would require a high amount of rework (like ObjectListView) How does the flickering behaves: * on column resize - the background is first clean using lightgray and after this is displayed the text (background is white) * on mouse scroll (animated) - for a very short time there is lightgray-bar displayed in the area where new lines are to be displayed. It looks like it does clean the background using the default window background color (lightgray) for the area where it has to redraw. How do I solve the flickering problem?

• Calculated control on subform based on current record

  I have the following: main form "customer" from a "customer" table. subform "invoices" with fields "invoice date", "invoice amount" "customer id" etc. from a table "invoices" whenever user clicks or goes to a record in the "invoices" sub form. I would like a "total so far" control to calculate the sum of the "invoices amount" up until the date of the current record being "clicked" or selected. i.e. for customer microsoft with invoices: 1) may 2 09, $150 2) may 3 09, $200 3) may 4 09, $500 If user clicks on record 2), "total so far" should show $350 If user clicks on record 1), "total so far" should show $150 If user clicks on record 3), "total so far" should show $850 Currently, I am using DSum function on an event "OnCurrent" in the subform "invoices" to set the "total so far" value. Is this method slow, inefficient? Any other simpler,cleaner,more elegant,faster, efficient method using ms access features? I want the "invoices" subform to show ALL the invoices for this customer no matter which record is clicked.

• How to throw a SqlException(need for mocking)

  Hi I am trying to test some exceptions in my project and one of the Exceptions I catch is SQlException. Now It seems that you can't go new SqlException() so I am not sure how I can throw a exception especially without somehow calling the database(and since it is unit tests it is usually advised not to call the database since it is slow). So I am using nunit and moq so I am not sure how to fake this. Edit Based on the answers they seem to all be based on ado.net I am using linq to sql. So that stuff is like behind the scenes. • C#.NET framework 3.5 SP1: satellite assemblies and FullTrust issues when the exe is on the network.

  Hi, I'm executing my .NET app from a network share. Since framework 3.5 SP1, and as explained here: http://blogs.msdn.com/shawnfa/archive/2008/05/12/fulltrust-on-the-localintranet.aspx, the main exe and all the DLLs located in the same folder (but not subfolders) are granted with FullTrust security policy. My problem is that I have subfolders for satellite assemblies with localized strings. Namely, I have: 1) FOLDER\APP.EXE 2) FOLDER\A whole bunch of DLLs 3) FOLDER\LANGUAGE1\Satellite assemblies 4) FOLDER\LANGUAGE2\Satellite assemblies 1 and 2 are automatically granted with FullTrust. 3 and 4 are not and my application is really slow because of that. Is there a way to grant 3 & 4 FullTrust security policy at runtime, since the application running has FullTrust? If not, is there a clean way to have satellite assemblies merged into only one DLL? • SQL Server 2005 high memory usage and performance problems

  Hi there guys. I have this ASP.NET/SQLServer2005 website running on a production server (Win2003, QuadCore, 4GB). The site runs smoothly normally, but after 2-3 weeks I notice a slow performance on the site (especifically in one particular page). Also I notice that the SQL Server process is using like 2GBs of RAM. So I restart the service, the site runs fast again and the process 300-400MBs. I'm looking for an explanation of why is this happening? What is SQL Server storing in RAM that takes too much space and degrades the performance? What can I do to avoid this? I'm trying to avoid restarting the SQLServer everytime this happens. Thank you!

  Hi, I used the setContentOffset method to scroll to a particular point automatically without user interaction. [menuScrollView setContentOffset:CGPointMake(600.0,0) animated:YES] but when i try to call the same method in a looping fashion inorder to slow down the speed of scrolling the scrolling never happens for (int i = 1; i<=30; i++) { [menuScrollView setContentOffset:CGPointMake(600.0-i*10,0.0) animated:YES]; NSLog(@"%f",600.0-i*10); } During the above piece of code the scrolling of UIScrollview happens only once (1st iteration( and it does not scroll for remaining 29 interations. What is the problem here ?

• UIImagePickerController and extracting EXIF data from existing photos

  It's well known that UIImagePickerController doesn't return the metadata of the photo after selection. However, a couple of apps in the app store (Mobile Fotos, PixelPipe) seem to be able to read the original files and the EXIF data stored within them, enabling the app to extract the geodata from the selected photo. They seem to do this by reading the original file from the /private/var/mobile/Media/DCIM/100APPLE/ folder and running it through an EXIF library. However, I can't work out a way of matching a photo returned from the UIImagePickerController to a file on disk. I've explored file sizes, but the original file is a JPEG, whilst the returned image is a raw UIImage, making it impossible to know the file size of the image that was selected. I'm considering making a table of hashes and matching against the first x pixels of each image. This seems a bit over the top though, and probably quite slow. Any suggestions?

• Display Image over map layer in GeoServer

  Hi I am newbie when it comes to GeoServer and trying to figure out if there is an easy way to display images on top of map layer. A background: In my application, based on a search criteria, some polygons are drawn on the map. Each polygon has a corresponding image (in TIFF format) that is stored somewhere. I want to load the image on top of the map when the user zooms in to a certain zoom level. I know this can be done using openLayers but since my images are in TIFF format, (openLayers is not able to render TIFF images as far as i know) i have to convert them to .PNG first which would be very slow considering the number of images i have. Hence I was wondering whether it would be possible to create a image layer that would retrieve an image of a certain polygon at a certain zoom level. If so, could anyone point me to an example or give me an idea on whether this is possible. I am using spring 2.5, tomcat 5, java 1.6 and geoserver 2.0 Thanks.

  If I have a (potentially largish) file on disk, and I want to determine quickly whether UIImage will be able to load it. I don't necessarily trust the file extension to be reliable; I need to look at the actual data. I can (of course) load it into a UIImage, but that's relatively slow and rather memory intensive. I'd rather just peek at the first chunk of the file and make a decision. What's the fastest, most efficient way to go about this that is still fairly reliable? (Ideally, it'd be an Apple-provided API, but I didn't turn one up in my searches.) A 99.9% solution is good enough; I'm willing to have false positives in rare cases, such as when an image file has been truncated.

• Storing callbacks in a dictionary (Objective C for the iPhone)

  I am trying to store callbacks in a dictionary. I can't use blocks as the iPhone doesn't support this (unless you use plblocks). I tried using functions, but apparently NSMutableDictionary doesn't allow these pointers (wants an id) I tried using class methods, but I couldn't find a way to obtain a pointer to these I could try using functions with the c++ stl hashmap (if it is supported in Objective C++), but apparently this can slow compilation times. I could try storing both a class and a selector, but that seems rather messy. What would be the best way to do this?

• WPF - Render text in Viewport3D

  I want to present up to 300 strings (just a few words) in a Viewport3D - fast! I want to render them on different Z positions and zoom in and out fluently. The ways I have found so far to render text in a Viewport3D: Put a TextBlock in a Viewport2DVisual3D. This guy's PlanarText class. The same guy's SolidText class. Create my own 2D panel and align TextBlocks on it. Call InvalidateArrange() every time I update the camera position. All of these are extremely slow and far apart from zooming fluently even with 10 strings only. Does anyone have a solution for this handy? It's got to be possible to render some text in a Viewport3D without waiting seconds!

• Works in firefox but not IE8

  This is working fine in firefox but only closes the first page and then breaks in IE8. Firebug in IE8 says that x.item(o) is null. I can't figure out why this works in firefox but not IE.   I'm looking for a good JavaScript tree / treegrid package. Now -- before you answer: It needs to be able to perform well with lots of nodes. Perhaps 1,000 sibling nodes. It needs to be able to draw to a usable state within 2 or 3 seconds with 1,000 nodes. It doesn't necessarily need to draw all 1,000 nodes at once -- if it supports some sort of "smart rendering" or fake scrolling. Beyond that, column resizing, drag and drop, inline editing would all be nice, although I could probably add that functionality myself. I've already tried dojo's tree and yahoo's YUI treeview. Both are too slow.

• jQuery scrollTop not working in chrome but working in Firefox

  I have used a scrollTop function in jquery for navigating to top. But strangely 'The smooth animated scroll' stopped working in safari and chrome(scrolling without smooth animation) after I made some changes. But it is working smoothly in Firefox. What could be wrong? • Which is more user friendly: TortoiseGIT or TortoiseHG?

  I have been experimenting with using Mercurial and TortoiseHG to track my work when I am working remotely (with a slow VPN I don't want to commit to SVN unless I have something that works). I have found TortoiseHG a bit hard to use - or at least it often doesn't work the way I expect it to, so I am considering switching to GIT and TortoiseGIT. (For example I had problems rolling back source code to an earlier version and I still don't know what I did wrong) My question whether they have a similar level of functionality / user friendliness or whether one is better than the other. What has your experience been?

• Freeware Programmer Calculator

  There have been lots of times in the past where a good programmer-oriented calculator would've saved me a lot of time. Lately, I've been doing quite a lot of bit manipulation, and having to do build/run to debug my calculations feels really slow. I've looked for something like this in the past, but found nothing that worked very well. The only thing that comes close is this one from AnalogX, but I can't get it to work or really do anything on my vista box which is where I'm doing most of my work at the moment. (btw - please send comments about my vista usage here;). Anyway, I'm looking for something for simple calculations using a C-like syntax with support for proper precenedce, operators, etc. Bonus points for cross-platform. The python interpreter was a great idea and is totally cross-platform. For windows only SpeQ is amazing. Thanks for the suggestions.

• What are modern and old compilers written in?

  As a compiler, other than an interpreter, only needs to translate the input and not run it the performance of itself should be not that problematic as with an interpreter. Therefore, you wouldn't write an interpreter in, let's say Ruby or PHP because it would be far too slow. However, what about compilers? If you would write a compiler in a scripting language maybe even featuring rapid development you could possibly cut the source code and initial development time by halv, at least I think so. To be sure: With scripting language I mean interpreted languages having typical features that make programming faster, easier and more enjoyable for the programmer, usually at least. Examples: PHP, Ruby, Python, maybe JavaScript though that may be an odd choice for a compiler What are compilers normally written in? As I suppose you will respond with something low-level like C, C++ or even Assembler, why? Are there compilers written in scripting languages? What are the (dis)advantages of using low or high level programming languages for compiler writing?

• Core Data performance deleteObject and save managed object context

  I am trying to figure out the best way to bulk delete objects inside of my Core Data database. I have some objects with a parent/child relationship. At times I need to "refresh" the parent object by clearing out all of the existing children objects and adding new ones to Core Data. The 'delete all' portion of this operation is where I am running into trouble. I accomplish this by looping through the children and calling deleteObject for each one. I have noticed that after the NSManagedObjectContext:Save call following all of the deleteObject calls is very slow when I am deleting 15,000 objects. How can I speed up this call? Are there things happening during the save operation that I can be aware of and avoid by setting parameters different or setting up my model another way? I've noticed that memory spikes during this operation as well. I really just want to "delete * from". Thanks.

  I am a student right now. Recently, I am working in a project as a leader with three other students. Due to the lack of experience, our project is progressing slowly and our members are frustrated. They do not feel sense of accomplishment in the project. I am pressured and frustrated, too. But as a team leader, I think I need to push them. But I do not know how to do. Do I help them solve coding problem or just encouragement? But if I pay too much attention on it, it would slow down my own progress. • IPC::Open3 Fails Running Under Apache

  I have a module that uses IPC::Open3 (or IPC::Open2, both exhibit this problem) to call an external binary (bogofilter in this case) and feed it some input via the child-input filehandle, then reads the result from the child-output handle. The code works fine when run in most environments. However, the main use of this module is in a web service that runs under Apache 2.2.6. And under that environment, I get the error: Cannot fdopen STDOUT: Invalid argument This only happens when the code runs under Apache. Previously, the code constructed a horribly complex command, which included a here-document for the input, and ran it with back-ticks. THAT worked, but was very slow and prone to breaking in unique and perplexing ways. I would hate to have to revert to the old version, but I cannot crack this.

I bind form to one data source in such way this.DataContext=MyClassInstance But with this way my form opening very slow. about one minute. When I comment above code, form opens very quickly. All My controls I bound to the class properties in XAML. • Implementing google dashboard type interface in asp.net

  I'm looking at implementing a Google IG type dashboard in a .net app. There are a number of options I've found to do this, and i'm trying to establish what is going to be the best to use, in terms of speed, versatility etc. So far the options I am looking at are either to use asp.net webparts and .net Ajax, this would make it quicker to build, but I'm concerned this is going to make the application bulky and slow, or using JQuery, and either .net MVC or Webforms, to custom build an interface. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the best option may be, or any options I may have missed? All I want to do here is to allow users to customise a dashboard with a number of components (which will be user controls). I do also have access to Telerik controls, but I'm not sure if they would be any use here.
