• when connected to vpn, can't access certain things

  my companies vpn is not a standard windows vpn. It uses Juniper Networks and it intalls locally something called "Host Checker" prior to allowing me to connect. I have noticed 2 things that I can't access while on vpn. etrade.com - no idea why this specific website, but I can't get to it, maybe https? use of my magik jack - I'm assuming this is some sort of a port conflict issue. if im on a call when i connect, i lose all reception. if i try to make a call after conected, ic an't even get it to dial. Can anyone tell me how I would even begin to debug this. I expect if I call the help desk they won't be much help, but if I can tell them the specific problems of conflicts, maybe I have a chance of them working with me to get it working.

• Can't access Terminal anymore, only shows a cursor

  I run OS X. Following these directions (Installing MySQL on Mac OS X) I added a file to /usr and the contents were PATH=/usr/local/mysql/bin:$PATH Actually I was trying to get the mysql command to work now I cannot access terminal. All I get is a cursor but no command line. I also cannot find the file I created in the Finder. I used command shift G to find the folder /usr and the file is not there. Edit: I Solved the problem by restarting my computer. I am really not sure what the problem was. I got the idea because Could not open a new pseudo-tty. appeared in my terminal after following slhck directions to remove my .profile file.   I have 3 "client" computers, on which the mentioned user is administrator: CPU1: Win Vista 32-bit -- User: Domain\User1 -- IP: 192.168.42.1 CPU2: Win 7 64-bit -- User: localhost\User2 -- IP: 192.168.42.2 CPU3: Win 7 64-bit -- User: Domain\User3 -- IP: 192.168.42.3 And a "target" computer (the one that I want to shutdown from the three others): TGT: Win 7 64-bit -- User: localhost\User4 -- IP: 192.168.42.21 I'm trying to shutdown TGT with the following command: shutdown /s /m \\192.168.42.21 It's working from CPU1 (meaning TGT shuts down), but from CPU2 and CPU3 I get the following message: Access denied. (5) What am I to understand? What should I do to get it working form all of my computers.

  Hello- I recently installed MySQL on Fedora13. Now, when I try to create a database, it denies me access. I tried resetting the password and it does not recognize my system root. I tried resetting password with an init-file containing: UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD('MyNewPass') WHERE User='root'; FLUSH PRIVILEGES; I tried uninstall and then reinstall and it is still not working. • Restrict Applications access to Device

  I have a PC that has the ability to handle running multiple game clients at once (specifically Tera Online). What I'd like to do is assign and/or restrict each clients access to a device (Gamepad) so that the actions from each device only effects the client I specify. After doing some research with Python's PyGame, I can see that a Gamepad essentially works like a Keyboard does by sending global key events to the entire system, and then the application reading those events. Question is, how can I make it not global? ONly have one application read one controller? Any help is appreciated!

  Hey guys, I am very new to linux, and amazon-ec2. I wanted to put a quick server. For some reason, when I sign in with my key pair, it prompts me for a username, I input ec2-user, and I'm in. The problem is that I don't have root access (and can't find the root password). I need to install screen to run the server in the background, and also create a new user, that doesn't have root, to run the server. Neither of which I can do without root.. Any help?   Access requires a username and password Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection) I am getting this above message. I have hosted a website in godaddy hosting space. But when i run it.. it is prompt for User name and Password (above message). I am not using windows authentications in my website.... • Access console of QNX server

  I am new to QNX (although I am familiar with Unix/Linux). This company I am working with has an old QNX (4.25) server in a server room that they remotely access via Windows terminals (Kermit via Telnet) which presents them with a text-based program. I need to get into/onto the actual box to be able to view directories, files, etc... and wondering if I can do that "remotely", along the lines of how I would SSH into a Unix box. Is there something like that in QNX? Do I need to actually hook up a keyboard/monitor to this server to be presented with a console? Would I even get a console?

  Why can't I download applications from neither Muon Softwware Center nor Synaptic Package manager? When I try to download an app from my Kubuntu 12.04 LTS softaware center, it tells me that I can't download any app. SAme thing in Synaptic Package manager : I get an error telling that I can't change anything on my system. The only solution I have is to use the cryted file technic, but I just do not like that. From the terminal, I get an error after I downloaded the package that either the package contains an error or that there is an error from this package. Thank you for your time, your answer and your work. This is very important, I have to install an app for my work.

  I apologize up front if this is the wrong place to post this question. It seemed like the best fit. I have a device which is connected to my local network which has an IP of 192.168.1.10 from my router. Additionally I use a Windows 7 machine that runs some software called DirectUpdate which allows me to resolve the local IP of the Windows 7 machine (192.168.1.5) to be accessible to the internet via my domain (example.com) - Basic dynamic DNS updating. I'd like to access the device from example.com. I am unsure how to do this as I don't have any way to install DirectUpdate (or any software) on the device to make the device available to the internet. Any insight here would be appreciated.   I'm trying to configure RAID in a IBM x3550 M2 server. I can't find any messages on boot about any hotkey to access the configuration utility. I wasn't able either in BIOS. The card is a on board LSI 1068e. I can't find the original CD's shipped with the server, but I downloaded Server Guide 9.21 from IBM web. Booted with that, and only getting stuck at "Windows loading"p. Tried with a 8.? version from a x3550 (M1), but it was less useful. Although I do not consider myself an expert, I'm starting to feel like a newbie luser. Any help?

• Internet wireless connected with limited access, windows vista

  Hello I had some malware in my computer so I did a bit of manual work to remove it including resetting TCP/IP. Now the malware is gone. I can see my home wireless network and I can get connected to it but when connected I get the Internet wireless connected with limited access message. When I go to the IE I cannot browse. When I tried to ping 192.168.1.1 I got an Error Code 1231 Unconnected Network Problem. I have deactivated my Windows firewall as I thought it could be hyperactive security. Still no luck. I have Norton but it is not active, I have also Avast and AVG installed but they are not active. Any ideas?

• SBS 2008 File access restrictions after 5:30PM

  Hi there, SBS 2008, I have an issue whereby a user can't access a file after 5:30PM. They get the message: "cannot be accessed. The file may be corrupted, located on a server that is not responding, or read only I've checked the logon hours on the AD User account in question and there's no restrictions there. I have noticed that the account in question does not appear in the SBS Console, only in ADUC which means the account wasn't added using the wizard. It's a long shot but would that make a difference? Other than that I'm pretty stumped, any suggestions welcomed. Thanks

• unable to kill process / logout on windows server 2003

  My own console .net application stuck in a "ghost" stage. It just shows a window that i can't close. It doesn't show up as a process in the task manager. when i try to "find windows process" using Process Explorer (from sysinternals) it says there is no process that owns that window or something like that. The problem is that it doesn't allow me to logout or reboot the server (remotely) because logoff process keeps waiting on that window to close. shutdown /r /f also is stuck waiting for it. I can probably have somebody go an reboot the server but i'd like to know if there is a way to close that process, close that session or force logout remotely. This is windows server 2003, but i had the same issue on XP just a few days ago.

• Cannot access shares via \\servername but \\ip works

  To set up the scenario: One of our techs set one of the domain controllers to use Microsoft time. The time IS correct (including Time Zone) and DOES match the other domain controller's time; it was previously incorrect, however. Since the change, no users can connect via \\servername\share or \\servername.domainname.com but \\ip\share works fine. I cannot even access it from the other domain controller with which I know both have the same time. The servername DOES resolve to the correct IP address. Also, strangely enough, \\domainname.com works as well which resolves to the same server. Finally Everything that I have tried does resolve to the same, correct IP address. The error is: login failure: The target account name is incorrect. I believe it is time related but since the times are correct and match I'm not sure. Anyone know what might cause this?

• 32 bit programs can't access Internet in Windows 7 64 bit

  I recently got a new ASUS laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed. It worked OK for a while but a couple of days ago, suddenly I couldn't access the Internet any more. After narrowing down the problem, I've reached the conclusion that what's happened is that 32 bit programs are suddenly not able to use the Internet, but 64 bit applications work just fine. Examples of programs that DON'T work any more: Google chrome Firefox Internet Explorer 8 World of Warcraft Examples of programs that DO work: Internet Explorer 8 (64 bit) ping (command line) nslookup (command line) ftp (command line) I'm pretty sure that those command line apps are 64 bit native. A re-install of Windows using the recovery partition on the laptop did fix the problem temporarily, but now it's back again. And I seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place getting someone to take the responsibility for this; the vendor says to talk to ASUS, ASUS says it's a software issue, and Microsoft doesn't give support on OEM licenses... Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

  Since Apache 2.4 I've started using mod_remoteip instead of mod_extract_forwarded for rewriting client address from x-forwarded-for provided by frontend servers (varnish, squid, apache etc). So far everything works fine with the modules, i.e. php, cgi, wsgi etc... - client addresses are shown as they should be, but I couldn't write client address in access logs (%a, %h, %{c}a). No luck - I'm always getting 127.0.0.1 (localhost forward ex.). How to log client's ip address when using mod_remoteip?

• Avoid access to www subdomain on secure server

  I have an SSL certificate that is valid for mysite.co.uk but not www.mysite.co.uk it seems. If I use mod_rewrite or .htaccess to redirect from one to the other will this prevent browsers from displaying an invalid certificate security warning if someone tries to access www.mysite.co.uk? (I've tried redirection but still get the warning if I type https://www.mysite.co.uk directly into the address bar of my browser. I want to know if this is because the redirection isn't working or if the browser will display the warning anyway.) I hope that makes sense.

• Unauthorized computer use via keyboard or remote access?

  I’m suspecting my computer is being used when I’m not at home. This is happening either physically or remotely. My wireless switch is off. Is there any way possible to detect and/or monitor activity without purchasing software? My settings are being changed as well as passwords (Bios PW was changed and I cannot access Bios settings). I connect via the network cable. Is it possible for someone (in range) to connect to my laptop even if the wireless switch is off? This is a Dell Inspiron 1720 with the WLAN 1395 card. Here’s the kicker. When I try to download freeware for monitoring activity, I am not allowed to do this! ????

I would also like to add Git, and give access to to closed group of developers working on their own private projects, essentially operating it as a shared hosting production server.   Hi, Lets say I am user: bob & group: users. There is this file: -rw----r-- 1 root users 4 May 8 22:34 testfile First question, why can't bob read the file as it's readable by others? Is it simply that if you are denied by group, then you are auto-blacklisted for others? I always assumed that the final 3 bits too precedence over user/group permission bits, guess I was wrong... Second question, how is this implemented? I suppose it's linked to the first query, but how does this work in relation to Access Control, is it related to how ACLs work / are queried? Just trying to understand how these 9 permission bits are actually implemented/used in Linux. Thanks alot.

• How to access MySQL on Windows

  This may sound like a really dumb question, but I normally only deal with MSSQL, no LAMP stuff, so I'm struggling to figure out what's going on. I have Windows 7 and have installed MySQL 5.1 through Web Platform Installer. I have HeidiSQL installed to manage data in MySQL, but how do I connect? In Heidi it's asking for 'Hostname / IP' which is prepopulated with 127.0.0.1. It prepopulates the user field to 'root' (which is right) and I'm entering the password I chose when MySQL was installed. However, it just errors when I connect, saying: SQL Error (1045): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES). Can anyone point me in the right direction here? Many thanks...

• I can access my company mail on iPhone, but not on a PC/Mac

  On my iPhone (4), I can set up my company e-mail, which allows me to receive and send e-mail and use the calender to manage appointments. The company is using Exchange 2003. The problem is that this is the only way I can access my e-mail when I'm not at the office. I've tried setting up an account on Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2011 (Mac) and the OSX Mail app, but it doesn't work. The server cannot be reached, even though I've used the exact same settings as on the iPhone. The info I use on the iPhone is: Server name of the company mail server (it's the same as for webmail) Use SSL AD Domain of my account My AD account name Password When I enter this on the iPhone, it works like a charm, but whatever I try on one of my desktops, it doesn't work. FYI: I can't ask the company IT guys because according to them, it doesn't work from a remote location, not even on the iPhone (but obviously, that works just fine)

• Security considerations in providing VPN access to non-company issued computers [migrated]

  There have been a few people at my office that have requested the installation of DropBox on their computers to synchronize files so they can work on them at home. I have always been wary about cloud computing, mainly because we are a Canadian company and enjoy the privacy and being outside the reach of the Patriot Act. The policy before I started was that employees with company issued notebooks could be issued a VPN account, and everyone else had to have a remote desktop connection. The theory behind this logic (as I understand it) was that we had the potential to lock down the notebooks whereas the employees home computers were outside of our grasp. We had no ability to ensure they weren't running as administrator all the time / were running AV so they were a higher risk at being infected with malware and could compromise network security. With the increase in people wanting DropBox I'm curious as to whether or not this policy is too restrictive and overly paranoid. Is it generally safe to provide VPN access to an employee without knowing what their computing environment looks like?

• Windows 7 - cannot access my own external disk

  I use Windows 7 Home Premium and external USB disk with NTFS partition. I cannot write-access the my own files on it, even as a member of Admnistrators group! Is there any way how to go around this permission checking, without actually writing some permission information to every folder on it? I have 3 external disks (up to 1TB), and I have thousands hundreds of files on each!!! Doing some permission change, that will actually go recursivelly through all folders on all my disks is plain brain damage!! 1) Is there any way how to change it somehow globally? (like mount options...) .. Or how to go around this annoying permission checking? It was working in Win XP normally! 2) if not, and I must do the recursive operation on all folders, how to do it PERMANENTLY, so that I don't need to do it again on another Windows 7 computer!
