• IE dropdown z-index bug

  I'm having a problem with a dropdown menu under IE (6 and 7). http://www.amaconsulting.pl/promocje.html As you can see, the dropdown hides behind the main content area in IE. It's a known bug and general advice is to set a z-index for header and content areas, so IE knows their "place", explained in the article here: http://bit.ly/coSPcI I've set the z-index of .header div to 20 and .featured, .content, .primary, .main to 1, trying to find the right div to fix the problem. While the dropdown stopped hiding behind the .featured div, it still hides behind the main content divs (either .primary or .main, .secondary is fine). The z-indexes for these divs are set in a separate stylesheet, ie.css, in case someone'll be looking for them. If someone could provide some advice, I'd be very grateful.

• Documenting applications - automation / semi-automation for screenshots?

  For me one of the biggest bores of being a developer is writing user documentation. (I am referring to the stuff that gets exported into PDF files files that ship with the product, not comments in code here). The task off adding or updating new bits of text to the existing documentation is OK. However having to take screenshots of select screens can be quite a tedious process. Is there a way to automate or even semi-automate the process of taking screenshots? The main requirement is the ability to crop images such that they contain only the window, including window manager areas (such as the title bar). The secondary requirement is that any format is OK, so long as it can be exported to PDF. EDIT: Any more biters?

  Hi, Can you help me in the following two scenarios (PHP+MYSQL) Scenario1: I need to compare the HTML Form field values with the Database field values and highlight the form fields in some color whose values are different from database values before submitting the form (to alert the user). Scenario2: On loading the form, i need to compare the values present in 2 different database tables (tables are having different column names but the information is same). the fields which are not same needs to be highlighted in the html form to indicate the users that the master data is varying from secondary data. Could you help me which is the efficient way of doing this (comparison and highlighting the form values). thanks in advance Naveen

• hibernate and ehcache replication

  Hi, I am working on a cache replication solution between nodes Node A - master node = Hibernate + Database + Ehcache as secondary cache Node B - regional node= Ehcache as prmiary cache. no Hibernate Node B is used only as near-by cache for query. Now I am updating data (Say SudentInfo) in Node A, it gets persisted and cached correctly. On replication side (I am using JMS) it sends a message to Node B. But the problem is, the message it sends is of instance CacheEntry(deep Inside Element), there is no way to resurrect the original object (StudentInfo). What I got in node B is CacheEntry with some attributes of Students but not actually an Student Object. Please note that I don't need Hibernate session/persistence in Node B, node B is only for fast query, persistence is done through Node A. So has anybody tried any solution like this? Is there any way to convert CacheEntry to actual object? or Tell ehcache to replicate original object rather than CacheEntry. Thanks for the help

• Javascript onbeforeunload Issue

  Alright, I have an issue with the following code. What happens is when a user closes their browser, it should prompt them to either click OK or click CANCEL to leave the page. Clicking OK would trigger a window.location to redirect to another page for user tracking (and yes, to avoid flame wars, there is a secondary system in place to assure accurate tracking, in the event of the user killing the browser from the task manager (as mentioned in similar questions)). CANCEL would remain on the page, the issue being that no matter what button you hit, you get redirected as if you wanted to leave the page. • hundreds of databases sql server log shipping

  SQL Server 2005 Standard 64x, with 300+ tiny databases currently (5MB each), user base adds databases as needed. Want to implement log shipping for warm standby, but not via the wizard, since that looks like it adds 3 jobs (1 on primary, 2 on secondary) for each log-shipped database. Do I try to write my own or use something like Quest's LiteSpeed? Or am I being too squeamish about having hundreds of SQL Server Agent jobs and all of them firing off (or worse, would I have to try to time them)? All advice welcome.

  I'm testing boost::thread on a system. It happens that I needed to act as a fork(), because one thread modifies the other variables, even member variables of class I do the project using fork() or is there some alternative still using boost::thread? Basically I run this program in Linux and maybe FreeBSD. It is an http proxy,accept() in main thread, and a function that accepts a class (where there is the file descriptor socket) in a secondary thread that makes the service. Is there a better way to implement a proxy?

• Why "alt" attribute for <img> tag has been considered mandatory by the HTML validator .. ?

  Is there any logical or technical reason (with the W3C validation) for making alt as required attribute .. This is my actual problem:though my page is perfect enough with respect to W3C validation rules .. Only error I am getting is line XX column YY - Error: required attribute "ALT" not specified I know the significance of "alt" attribute and I have omitted that where it is unnecessary .. (to be more elaborate .. I have added the image to increase the beauty of my page and I don't want alt attribute to show irrelevant message to the viewer) getting rid of the error is secondary .. rather I am curious to know whether is it a flaw with validation rules .. ??   I need to set up log shipping for about 10 databases. The primary server is accessed by our website and the secondary server is a BI server. What I am struggling to figure out at moment is the best way to handle a “failback” situation once a failover has occurred. How do I get the primary server back to being the main server for the website? Does anyone have any suggestions or best practices to handle a failback? We are using SQL server 2008.

• Is Rails default CSRF protection insecure

  By default the form post CSRF protection in Rails creates an authenticity token for a user that only changes when the user's session changes. One of our customers did a security audit of our site and flagged that as an issue. The auditor's statement was that if we also had a XSS vulnerability that an attacker could grab another user's authenticity token and make use of it for CSRF attacks until the user's session expired. But is seems to me that if we had an XSS vulnerability like that an attacker could just as easily grab another user's session cookie and login as that user directly. Or even just make call to our REST Api as the user being attacked. No secondary CSRF attack needed. Have I missed something? Is there a real problem with the default CSRF protection in Rails?

• Base-camp Style Subdomains and IDs of Models

  I have an app that has Basecamp-style subdomains, that is, I have Projects, Users, Apples and Oranges. The Users, Apples and Oranges are all keyed to a Project and only exist in the http://project.myapp.com. I added a project_id to Users, Apples and Oranges and everything works, except of course that the ids of those three objects increment globally, and throughout my app I lookup objects by that id. This doesn't seem like best practice. Should I instead do lookups by a secondary key? How does that affect efficiency? If there's a good blog post that covers this, would be wesome.

  Hey I am looking for theory, algorithms and similar for how to compare music. More specifically, I am looking into how to dupecheck music tracks that have different bitrates or perhaps slightly different variations (radio vs album version), but otherwise sound the same. Use cases for this include services such as Grooveshark, Youtube, etc. where they get a lot of duplicate tracks. I am also interested in text comparisons (Britney Spers vs Britney Spears, how far they deviate, etc.) although this is secondary and I already have some sources to go on in this area. I am mostly interested in codec-agnostic comparison techniques and algoritms (assuming a "raw" stream), but codec-specific resources are appreciated. I am aware of projects such as musicbrainz.org, but have not investigated it further, and would be interested if such projects could be of help in this endeavor.

However there is a coursework assigned to each module, and each coursework has a duedate which is unique to each intake.   Recently I developed a performance tester console application, with no UI, with the help of a IoC containter (Castle-Windsor-Microkernel). This library enabled me to let the user choose which test(s) to run, simply by changing the configuration file. Have I realized what IoC containers are about? I'm not sure. Even Joel said here on SO that IoC are difficult to understand. From my example, what do you conclude? Am I using IoC container for exactly what they were designed for? Or I am just using one of its secondary features?

• sharing web user controls across projects.

  I've done this using a regular .cs file that just extends System.Web.UI.UserControl and then included the assembly of the project that contains the control into other projects. I've also created .ascx files in one project then copied all ascx files from a specified folder in the properties-Build Events-Pre-build event. Now what I want to do is a combination of those two: I want to be able to use ascx files that I build in one project, in all of my other projects but I want to include them just using assembly references rather than having to copy them to my "secondary" projects as that seems a ghetto way to accomplish what I want to do. It works yes, but it's not very elegant. Can anyone let me know if this even possible, and if so, what the best way to approach this is?

I plan to use this to synchronize those properties across a couple of somewhat similar databases. • MOSS Collect Data from user custom email

  Hi, I am trying to send out a custom email, after the Collect Data from user step in my primary workflow which starts when an item in list X is created. I have created a secondary workflow to start when a new Task item is created (this is created by the Collect Data from user action in the primary workflow). But I am having problem how I retrieve the information on the list X. I know the ID of the referenced item in List X is stored in a URL within the "Link" column in the Tasks lists. But can't see any string manipulation function that will grab this ID so I can use it to link back to relevant item in List X. Is there an easier way to do this? Many Thanks, Nav

  Based on this http://servergrrl.blogspot.com/2008/02/how-to-use-wss-30-to-search-more-than.html blog, I've created a domain account for testing and sets the permission at the side level as well as Document Library to allow specific user (DOMAIN/TestUser1) allow accessing this folder. Now, it's interesting that the user can see the document by drilling though BUT it won't be able to search and the document couldn't find it. But if I tested with the site owner (both primary and secondary), it works nicely. What did I do wrong then? It must be related on permission but I cound't work out what it is. BTW ... I am using WSS not MOSS 2007. Thanks

• Reverting CoreData data

  I have an NSTableView which is populated via a CoreData-backed NSArrayController. Users are able to edit any field they choose within the NSTableView. When they select the rows that they have modified and press a button, the data is sent to a third-party webservice. Provided the webservice accepts the updated values, I want to commit those values to my persistent store. If, however, the webservice returns an error (or simply fails to return), I want the edited fields to revert to their original values. To complicate matters, I have a number of other editable controls, backed by CoreData, which do not need to resort to this behaviour. I believe the solution to this problem revolves around the creation of a secondary Managed Object context, which I would use only for values edited within that particularly NSTableView. But I'm confused as to how the two MOC would interact with each other. What's the best solution to this problem?

  Hi, I have developed an application which has retrieved the information from remote location...so i put those in UITableView's Section.In response, i will be getting images also..for this i put the background process(only for images..because the app will take more time to retrieve images than text based information..).It is working fine...But if i scroll the tableview while loading the images..it is going to be crashed.... crash Log: Tried to obtain the web lock from a thread other than the main thread or the web thread. This may be a result of calling to UIKit from a secondary thread. Crashing now... could anyone has the solution for this..please let me know..how to resolve this crash...Even i used NSThread class for this.. but i didn't get the solution... Thanks, Srinivas G

  How can I update the JProgressBar.setValue(int) from another thread? My secondary goal is do it in the least amount of classes possible.   Is it an error to call dealloc on a UIViewController from a background thread? It seems that UITextView (can?) eventually call _WebTryThreadLock which results in: bool _WebTryThreadLock(bool): Tried to obtain the web lock from a thread other than the main thread or the web thread. This may be a result of calling to UIKit from a secondary thread. Background: I have a subclassed NSOperation that takes a selector and a target object to notify. -(id)initWithTarget:(id)target { if (self = [super init]) { _target = [target retain]; } return self; } -(void)dealloc { [_target release]; [super dealloc]; } If the UIViewController has already been dismissed when the NSOperation gets around to running, then the call to release triggers it's dealloc on a background thread.
