• MediaTemple Django Bad Gateway

  I have a site running on GS server on MediaTemple. It's Django/PostgreSQL setup. For some reason from time to time I get Bad Gateway error and I can't figure out what's causing it. What can cause this error? • How do you create a virtual directory in Mac Snow Leopard?

  I am using the server admin tool for the web and see where I can create sites with the +. I thought that was creating virtual directory but it doesn't seem to be. I need a site that uses port 80 but is like http://myserver/myvirtual instead of http://myserver which is what this one with the + does. how do I make a virtual directory with the tool like in IIS?   I'm working with Hosted SharePoint 2007 with Forms Server. I need to allow client access to submit HTML forms designed in Infopath. Problem is, I need to make sure the clients don't see the library. There is sensitive data that will be on these forms. I also need to have a repeated library that is based on the Internal Admin records and requirements. Outside of making a seperate library per customer, does anyone have any suggestions? My Goal: 1: Customers enter their requests through a link or provided page 2: Internally address the requests and perform required arrangements, add billing and payment fields 3: Have SharePoint metrics, reports, etc... based on the provided intormation and status. • nagios contact groups to check_mk

  I have Nagios installed with traditional configuration files. I have created some contact groups and assigned them to hosts. For web UI I'm using check_mk. And here's the question: Check_mk supports showing hosts/services based on contact group membership. But I can't use the Nagios contact groups in check_mk. (Result should be that if person XYZ is logged in, he see only hosts and services assigned to him.) My users are in LDAP (I'm using check_mk login form, not apache authorisation). I can't find any information about this in documentation so if someone have experience, please tell me how this works. The problem is that I cannot let everybody be admin and receive all alerts...

• Synergy 1.3.6 on Windows 7 Test not working

  So I have the client running, says perfectly connected to server when I run a test I run the same test on the server and it just says "running test. press stop to end test" and no output log file comes up like on the client. Then I stop the test it says synergy is about to quot with errors and warnings. Please check the log then click OK. Except for the log didnt come up and I don't know how to access the log from command prompt. And I'm pretty sure my thing is set up correct: section: links Joel-HP: left = JoelPC2 JoelPC2: right = Joel-HP end My Windows 7 64 bit server is on the right, Windows 7 32 bit client on left Both client and server are run as admin.

• Windows XP: Consequences of setting a password for an account

  I do not quite understand how Windows (specifically Windows XP) handles accounts with/without passwords. As far as I can see, on a fresh Windows XP install I have one default account which has admin rights does not have a password will auto-login (without password prompt) when the computer boots What happens if I set a password for this account? Will it still auto-login? Or will it always prompt for the PW? And generally, what consequences does it have if I set a password? I noted that Scheduled Tasks apparently cannot run under an account w/o password (creating a scheduled task will prompt for the account PW). Is there anything that will not work with a password set? Why is it even possible to have accounts without a password? I have some Unix/Linux background, but the concepts appear a little different under Windows.

• Port forwarding on D-Link DIR-615 super-slow, useless

  Hello I have replaced my old router with DIR-615 from D-Link, and now the port forwarding is so slow it makes the router practically useless. Accessing the router itself (admin UI) is without issues, no delay whatsoever. But when I try to access a service on another computer in the network the requests take minutes and minutes. (E.g. I can see source of my GWT-app main page, but loading additional CSS and JS files takes years.) If anyone could recommend any further diagnostics I should do to figure out what is happening it would be great. Few notes: happens with more services (web-app on Tomcat, viewing directory index via Apache) it does not make a difference whether the service is hosted on wired or wireless PC accessing the service on a localhost works fine turning off firewall on the target PC does not make difference either (makes sense) when I replace this router with the old one (both 192.168.1.1) everything works fine I see nothing suspicious in the router's log I believe I have the latest firmware (4.11) DIR-615 sucks, it already died once completely Regards Jarda Z.

• Is it possible to use WebMatrix with pure IIS?

  I'd like to check out WebMatrix for publishing our site to IIS automatically (right now, I have to zip it up, copy it out, Remote Desktop into the server, unzip it, etc). However, every example I can find on how to setup WebMatrix involves Azure, or using a .publishsettings file that you'd get from your hosting provider. I'm curious if I can publish to a normal, every day IIS server running on Windows Server 2008. So far, all I've done to the IIS server is install Web Deploy, which I believe is the protocol that WebMatrix uses to publish. When I enter the Remote Site Settings screen, I select Enter settings. I select Web Deploy as the protocol, type in my NT domain credentials (I'm an Admin on that server). I put in the site URL for the Site Name and Destination URL. When I click Validate Connection, I get: Am I doing something wrong, or is this just not possible to do?

  I am a student and i'm experimenting with my own home server running windows server 2008 R2. Now i have a NAS in my network an i can connect with it trough my server but only if i am on the administrator account. My own account is in the administrators group but can't establish a connection with the NAS unless the administrator account has already connected. How do i make my own account connect with the NAS without first connecting with the admin account. The error message on my account: An error occurred while reconnecting Y: to \NAS\Download Microsoft Windows Network: The user name could not be found. This connection has not been restored.

• Is it Secure to Grant Apache User Ownership of Directories & Files for Wordpress

  I'm currently setting up WordPress on an Ubuntu server 12 everything runs fine but there is an issue when it comes to automatically updating and uploading media via WP as Apache "www-data" user does not have permissions to write to the directories. "user1" has full permission All my directories have permissions of 0755 and files 644 my directories setup is as follows: /home/user1/public_html All WP files and directories are in "public_html" In order to work around the auto updating and uploading media I've granted Apache user ownership to the following directories sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-content -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-includes -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-admin -R I would like to know security wise how secure this is and if it is not secure what would be the best solution? That will allow me to keep all files and directories owned by user1 and still allow wp to be able to automatically update and uploading media

• Cannot do sudo: "/etc/sudoers is mode 0740, should be 0440"

  I have a problem: I don't have a root password on my mac. I just have an Admin account, which can do stuff using sudo. Now, I wanted to add my normal user to the /etc/sudoers file as well. Since it did not let me write to that file (even writing using sudo), I did this: sudo chmod u+w /etc/sudoers That worked. But since then I can't do any sudo command anymore on my system. It complains that /etc/sudoers has the wrong mode: $ sudo touch /etc/sudoers sudo: /etc/sudoers is mode 0740, should be 0440 Segmentation fault It sounds like a bad joke, because now I can't even change the mode back to 0440: $ sudo chmod 0440 /etc/sudoers sudo: /etc/sudoers is mode 0740, should be 0440 Segmentation fault Is there any way to fix this situation? I need to get my sudo abilities back.

• Using AJAX to display error message Ruby on Rails

  I have built a blog using Ruby on Rails. New to both. I am implementing AJAX pretty effectively until I get to the error handling portion. I allow for comments on posts and do this by rendering a comment partial and remote form in the /views/posts/show.html.erb page. Upon successful save of a comment the show page is updated using views/comments/create.js.rjs and displays a flash notice. I am simply trying to flash a notice when it doesn't save. Searched around and worked this a bit on my own. Can't get it to fly. • A very strange problem related to Flash and Java

  Hello, I have created one simple program for showing webcam of the user. It works absolutely fine when i am running without integrating it in my java web application. But as soon as i copy paste the same files in Netbeans 6.8 and try to run it. My swf file is visible but the buttons in it are totally unclickable. I get the message of allow or deny showing webcam but the buttons are not clickable. It makes my application totally useless. I thought it's a minor issue but now it's getting on my nerves. I am trying it since 3 hours but didn't find any solution. I don't think anybody faced this issue till now that's why can't seem to find any thread in any forum on it in google. I am using Netbeans 6.8, Ubuntu, Glassfish V3 and JSF. Thanks in advance :). UPDATE:- It works fine on Windows XP. Then what can be the problem with Ubuntu? Any kind of permission rights that i need to give? 2nd UPDATE:- I think this is bug with Flash. • Google Calender sync in Window 7 64bit

  Hi, Has anyone got the google calender sync (http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=89955) to work on Windows 7 64 bit with Outlook 2007? I have set up 2 way sync but it only seems to sync from my gmail calender to outlook calender. If I make an appointment in my outlook calender, it doesn't show up in gmail calender. I tried running it as admin, but no joy. I also tried running it in compatablity mode (XP service pack 3). But it still gives me an error when i do a manual Sync that says "Could not connect to microsoft outlook. error -2146959355" Thanks in advance.

  I have 3 servers, - domain controller with dns services - dhcp/rras - file/random server with files stored on it and nothing special so far. All servers have static IP's All servers are in the same domain (SOFTWARE) RDP is enabled for all 3 servers All servers are Windwos Server 2008 R2 I can connect to the DHCP/RRAS server via RDP I cannot connect to DC and File server When I add RPD users (both are domain admin for testing) to the File server they show up like this: What is happening what I don't see? • Broken web interface in WRT54G router

  I flashed my WRT54G (v3) from a custom firmware to the lastest Linksys one (v4.21.1) Now the internet/LAN works fine, but the web interface (http://192.168.1.1/) shows broken pages. I tried to manually navigating to the firmware upgrade page (by entering its URL), but it is broken too and not working. I tried a 30/30/30 reset twice, but the broken web interface still shows up. I tried to flash using the tftp2.exe application, which told me that the router didn't respond to the request. I tried to flash using the Windows commandline TFTP protocol, but I don't know how to supply a password on this prococol. (there is a factory default password ("admin") which I can't remove since the web interface is broken)

• Live streaming external FLV files

  I want to broadcast live video from a playlist created by me, but the actual video files (.flv's) are stored in some external file hosting which I can't admin, but it's currently allowing the use of flash players for playing its contents (progressively). Which is the best solution for this? Can I use my current web server (Debian w/Apache) or should I use some specific server software? I've read some names such as Red5 and Wowza but I can't tell if those are solutions to my actual problem or how should I use them. Also, costs should be as low as possible for this project.

• Avoiding spam filters on my CentOS 5.5 64bit server?

  I run a social network on my web server, with about 15,000 members right now. My administration section let's me Mass Email all my users. Currently it uses the built in PHP mail function. What is the best way to congfigure my server to bypass spam? Can I install anything on the server? Or should I just make the social network use SMTP? The admin panel lets me choose SMTP or built-in mail function. I'm not to familiar with mailing from servers, as I usually use Aweber for my mailing, but I cannot use Aweber for this as they will not let me just import 15,000 emails. Let me know, thanks.

• Remote desktop connection drops before login can appear

  Hi Everyone, Someone asked this question a few months ago and I have the exact same problem. I have tried all of the suggested solutions in the other posting (in particular reinstalling the video card on the server), but have not had any luck. I have gone through this troubleshooting guide in detail with no results: http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.org/RemoteDesktop/RemoteDesktopSetupandTroubleshooting.html I have a client with Remote Desktop enabled that I can't connect to in our local network. When I enter in the machine ip/port in the connect box and hit Connect, it briefly gives the normal "Connecting..." dialog box. However, after 2 seconds it just drops. No error message, nothing. Just disappears as if nothing was happening. •Windows XP SP3 •Windows firewall is open for 3389TCP •Machine is on a domain •RDP is enabled in My Computer •User is a local admin I have loads of other machines on the same domain with the same GPO that work fine. Any ideas?

• OpenVPN Permission Denied Error

  I am setting OpenVPN up, and I'm in the state of adding users. Details: Host System: Windows Server 2003 32-bit. Guest System: Ubuntu Linux (with OpenVPN installed already), actually I downloaded it from OpenVPN.Net. Virtualization: VMWare v7.0 Problem: I can access the Access Server web portal (on the port 5480), but when I login to http://host_ip:943/admin and enter my (correct) login info, it shows me a page saying that "You don't have enough permissions". I am the (root) user!!!! that is really weird!!! Note: if I enter wrong login it will denote an incorrect login, this means that I am logging in successfully but the problem comes after the login process. What I tried: I tried to create another user after (root) logging in to Linux Bash using (useradd) command, but the same resulted.

  I'm curious what techniques you Linux admin gods are using to manage your Jetty deployments. I come from a Windows Server background so I'm still getting used to all of this. I've been looking for a good solution for deploying Jetty instances as port 80 on a Linux installation.   I was following a tutorial which had this command to create a launchd.conf file in /etc/ sudo echo "some command" /etc/launchd.conf But it wouldn't work, I got permission denied after entering my admin password.   I believe that I have the permissions set correctly but I can't write to a directory. • Server 2008 R2 repair install

  Is it possible to do a repair install on a server 2008 R2 Enterprise machine like we used to be able to do on 2003? I need to reinstall on a remote server and don't have a driver cd in the drive just a copy of server. I am worried that when it comes back up I won't have any drivers for the NIC. I have a iDRAC but can't seem to send files over the DRAC to the machine. Sadly this server doesn't have an SD card in the DRAC with the files I need. I welcome any suggestions if the repair is not possible. Our IDC is in Chicago and they are buried under snow so I won't be able to get another admin on site until at least tomorrow.
