    Hey guys, I am trying to use the Jets3t library within an Android application, and I keep getting errors with the Rest service when I use the library. 04-27 16:47:39.491: ERROR/S3Service(225): Couldn't initialize a sax driver for the XMLReader I have tried to include the Xerces library and the Crimson library, and it dont play well. I get this error: Attempt to include a core class (java.* or javax.*) in something other than a core library. It is likely that you have attempted to include in an application the core library (or a part thereof) from a desktop virtual machine. This will most assuredly not work. At a minimum, it jeopardizes the compatibility of your app with future versions of the platform. It is also often of questionable legality. If you really intend to build a core library -- which is only appropriate as part of creating a full virtual machine distribution, as opposed to compiling an application -- then use the "--core-library" option to suppress this error message. Is there something I can do to get it working ?

  • Floating point conversion from Fixed point algorithm

    Hi, I have an application which is using 24 bit fixed point calculation.I am porting it to a hardware which does support floating point, so for speed optimization I need to convert all fixed point based calculation to floating point based calculation. For this code snippet, It is calculating mantissa for(i=0;i<8207;i++) { // Do n^8/7 calculation and store // it in mantissa and exponent, scaled to // fixed point precision. } So since this calculation, does convert an integer to mantissa and exponent scaled to fixed point precision(23 bit). When I tried converting it to float, by dividing the mantissa part by precision bits and subtracting the exponent part by precision bit, it really does' t work. Please help suggesting a better way of doing it.

  • Formatting HTML lists using CSS

    I'm trying to recreate list in HTML which has clauses and subclauses like this: 1. Main Clause (a) Sub clause (b) Sub clause 2. Another main clause (a) Sub clause The problems I'm running into are: If I use the existing HTML elements (ol and li) there doesn't seem to be a list style for (a) - I can have a. b. c. or A. B. C. but not (a) (b) (c). If I don't use the existing HTML elements and start using span tags, then if a subclause runs beyond the end of the line it appears underneath the clause number, rather than being indented. Like so: (a) Very long subclause which goes over one line when what I really want is the behaviour from lists, which is: (a) Very long subclause which goes over one line Is there any way to get round these two problems at the same time? I'd prefer to use semantic HTML and CSS for styling, but having the clauses spaced correctly is more important than doing things 'the right way'. I may need subsubclauses at some point (i.e. (i), (ii) etc.), so I can't assume that (a) will be the maximum clause depth.

    Hello, HTML5 draft contains an API called EventSource to stream data (notifications) trough javascript using only one server call. So my question is, is there any other way in javascript, maybe more complex, to use this one stream to get data ?

  • Windows Live Writer plugin with .NET 4

    Has anyone written a plugin for Windows Live Writer that runs against .NET 4? I've read the .NET 4 introduces side-by-side running, so one part of the app can target .NET x and another part can target .NET 4. I thought WLW would be a good starting point to try this as previously it only supported plugins up to .NET 2. But my .NET 4 plugin never shows. Maybe they test dependencies before loading the plugins? Anyone else got this working?

  • XML to be validated against multiple xsd schemas

    I'm writing the xsd and the code to validate, so I have great control here. I would like to have an upload facility that adds stuff to my application based on an xml file. One part of the xml file should be validated against different schemas based on one of the values in the other part of it. Here's an example to illustrate: <foo> <name>Harold</name> <bar>Alpha</bar> <baz>Mercury</baz> <!-- ... more general info that applies to all foos ... --> <bar-config> <!-- the content here is specific to the bar named "Alpha" --> </bar-config> <baz-config> <!-- the content here is specific to the baz named "Mercury" --> </baz> </foo> In this case, there is some controlled vocabulary for the content of <bar>, and I can handle that part just fine. Then, based on the bar value, the appropriate xml schema should be used to validate the content of bar-config. Similarly for baz and baz-config. The code doing the parsing/validation is written in Java. Not sure how language-dependent the solution will be. Ideally, the solution would permit the xml author to declare the appropriate schema locations and what-not so that s/he could get the xml validated on the fly in a sufficiently smart editor. Also, the possible values for <bar> and <baz> are orthogonal, so I don't want to do this by extension for every possible bar/baz combo. What I mean is, if there are 24 possible bar values/schemas and 8 possible baz values/schemas, I want to be able to write 1 + 24 + 8 = 33 total schemas, instead of 1 * 24 * 8 = 192 total schemas. Also, I'd prefer to NOT break out the bar-config and baz-config into separate xml files if possible. I realize that might make all the problems much easier, as each xml file would have a single schema, but I'm trying to see if there is a good single-xml-file solution.

  • Unable to install updates on 14.04 LTS

    I have been getting update notifications for a few weeks now but whenever I attempt to install them I get this message; The upgrade needs a total of 74.6 M free space on disk '/boot'. Please free at least an additional 29.8 M of disk space on '/boot'. Empty your trash and remove temporary packages of former installations using 'sudo apt-get clean'. First of all I don't have permission to access /boot (don't know why as its a standalone machine and i'm the only user). Secondly, I emptied the trash; Thirdly, I launched Terminal and entered sudo apt-get clean I was a asked for a sudo password. I entered my system password. Re-entered sudo apt-get clean. The cursor stopped blinking - I assumed it was doing it's "thing". I let it go for about 10 minutes then exited Terminal. Tried to install the updates but just got the same message. Is there something i'm ignorant of?   • Duplicate content issue after URL-change with 301-redirects

    We got the following problem: We changed all URLs on our page from oldURL.html to newURL.html and set up 301-redirects (ca. 600 URLs) Google re-crawled our page, indexed all the new URLs (newURL.html), but didn't crawl the old URLs (oldURL.html) again, as there were no internal links pointing at those domains anymore after the URL-change. This resulted in massive ranking-drops, etc. because (i) Google thought oldURL.html has exactly the same content as newURL, causing duplicate content issues, and (ii) Google did not transfer the juice from oldURL to newURL, because the 301-redirect was never noticed. Now we reset all internal Links to the old URLs again, which then redirect to the newURLs, in the hope that Google would re-crawl the pages, once there are internal links pointing at them. This is partially happening, but at a really low speed, so it would take multiple months to notice all-redirects. I guess, because Google thinks: "Aah, I already know oldURL.html, so no need to re-crawl it. Possible solutions we thought of are ... Submitting as many of the old URLs to the index as possible via Webmaster Tools, to manually trigger a crawl. Doing that already Submitting a sitemap with all old URLs - but not sure if good idea, because Google does not seem to like 301-redirects in a sitemap ... Both solutions are not perfect - and we cannot wait for three months, just to regain our old rankings. What are your ideas? Best, David

  • Would You Pay for Smartphone OS Updates? [Poll]

    For most phone ecosystems, manufacturer/carrier provided updates are few and far between (or outright nonexistent). To get access to mobile OS updates, would you open your wallet? While iPhone users are used to regular (and free) OS updates, the rest of us our largely left out in the cold. Over at ExtremeTech, Ryan Whitwam argues that we should be willing to pay for smartphone OS updates. The core of his argument is updates cost money and there is no financial incentive for carriers like Sprint and Verizon to turn back to their supplies (say, Motorola or LG) and pay them to provide an update pack for a phone they stopped selling last quarter. He writes: It might be hard to swallow, but the manufacturer of your phone is out to make money for its shareholders. The truth of the matter is that you’re not even the customer; the carrier is. Carriers buy thousands of phones at a time, and unless the carrier wants an update, there won’t be one because there is no one else to pay for it. Imagine if, instead of burning money for little or no benefit, an OEM actually had a financial incentive to port ICS to its older devices. Instantly, the idea of updating phones goes from the customer service back-burner to the forefront of a company’s moneymaking strategy. If the system proves a success, carriers could get involved and have a taste of the update fees as compensation for deploying the update over the air. This is more viable now than ever before thanks to the huge number of Android phones in the market. Samsung, for example, has sold over 30 million Galaxy S II phones since last summer. It has just started rolling Android 4.0 updates out to some countries, but most users are still waiting. If it charged just $10 for access to the update, that would be $150 million if only half of all users wanted an official update.   • jQuery onmouseover + onmouseout / hover on two different divs

    Hello everybody, I've got a Problem: Here a part of my HTML: <div id="div_1"> Here Hover </div> <div id="div_2"> Here content to show </div> And here a part of my jQuery Script: jQuery('#div_2').hide(); jQuery('#div_1').onmouseover(function() { jQuery('#div_2').fadeIn(); }).onmouseout(function(){ jQuery('#div_2').fadeOut(); }); The Problem: If i hover on the div_1, the div_2 is shown, if i hover out, the div_2 is hidden, but: If i hover first on div_1 and then go over div_2, the div_2 is hidden fast. I've tried this with jQuery.addClass(); after mouseout in div_1, but nothing is changing. I dont want do make the second div in the first div... Is there another way with jQuery? Thx Ahmet

  • Dns.GetHostEntry returns multiple IP addresses

    This question probably highlights a lack of understanding of networking principals on my part, rather than a programming issue. I'm doing a lookup on a hostname using Dns.GetHostEntry This returns an IPHostEntry to me, which has an AddressList property which is an array of IPAddress. I always thought there is a 1 to 1 mapping between hostname and IP, but I'm finding that in some cases I get back several IPAddress(es) for the same host. This is a surprise to me. Which part of domain name resolution do I not understand?

  • How do I draw a texture-mapped triangle in MATLAB?

    I have a triangle in (u,v) coordinates in an image. I would like to draw this triangle at 3D coordinates (X,Y,Z) texture-mapped with the triangle in the image. Here, u,v,X,Y,Z are all vectors with three elements representing the three corners of the triangle. I have a very ugly, slow and unsatisfactory solution in which I (1) extract a rectangular part of the image, (2) transform it to 3D space with the transformation defined by the three points, (3) draw it with surface, and (4) finally masking out everything that is not part of the triangle with AlphaData. Surely there must be an easier way of doing this?

    Group, Part 1: I'm currently working on a command line utility that can take args and update a local database. The only issue I have is once i established a "Data connection"..how can I use those args for queries and searches. For example: ~//arrInput.exe "parm1" "pram2" "pram3" Part 2: I would like to take in command line args and use them as input parms for a "stored proc".   • C++ find method is not const?

    I've written a method that I'd like to declare as const, but the compiler complains. I traced through and found that this part of the method was causing the difficulty: bool ClassA::MethodA(int x) { bool y = false; if(find(myList.begin(), myList.end(), x) != myList.end()) { y = true; } return y; } There is more happening in the method than that, but with everything else stripped away, this was the part that didn't allow the method to be const. Why does the stl find algorithm prevent the method from being const? Does it change the list in any way?

    Let's say I have array of bytes: byte[] arr = new byte[] { 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 }; Does platform has functions that I can use to play with this array - for example, how to invert it (get 4,3,2,1,0)? Or, how to invert part of it (2,1,0,3,4)? Get part of array (0,1,2,3)? I know I can manually write functions but I am curious if I'm missing useful util functions in platform that I should know about (and couldn't find any useful guide using google). Thanks!

  • Packaging a Bundle with a static library

    I have a static library that includes some xibs. These will basically be the same across projects. I'd like to include the xibs as part of the library. I can include their veiwcontrollers, reference these controllers in the calling project but then there isn't a xib to load. When I right click the xib in the library project, it can't be part of the target. I thought about creating a CFPluginBundle but that creates a new project. I'd loose all of my IBOutlet and IBAction references. What is the best way to reuse xibs that also have outlets and actions to specific controllers?

  • Red-Black trees - Erasing a node with two non-leaf children

    Hi all, I've been implementing my own version of a red-black tree, mostly basing my algorithms from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-black_tree). Its fairly concise for the most part, but there's one part that I would like clarification on. When erasing a node from the tree that has 2 non-leaf (non-NULL) children, it says to move either side's children into the deletable node, and remove that child. I'm a little confused as to which side to remove from, based on that. Do I pick the side randomly, do I alternate betweek sides, or do I stick to the same side for every future deletion?

  • How do I create a new folder and deploy files to the 12 hive using VseWSS 1.3?

    I have created a web part using VSeWSS 1.3. It creates a wsp file and my web part gets installed, everything works great. I would like to also create a folder in the LAYOUTS directory of the 12 hive and place a couple files in there. How do I go about doing this? I know that I can manually place the files there, but I would prefer to have it all done in one fell swoop when I uses stsadm to install my solution. Is there a best practices guide out there for using VSeWSS 1.3 to do this? They changed a bunch of stuff with this new version and I want to make sure I don't mess anything up.

Any of the 'text' entries can have "=" between the ' characters though. I was thinking of trying to match an even number of 's followed by a =, but I'm not sure how to match an even number of something.. Also note I don't know how many entries on either side there could be.   • Can an interface be implemented across an aggregate/composite class in vb.net?

    VB.NET .NET 3.5 I have an aggregate class called Package as part of a shipping system. Package contains another class, BoxType . BoxType contains information about the box used to ship the package, such as length, width, etc. of the Box. Package has a method called GetShippingRates. This method calls a separate helper class, ShipRater, and passes the Package itself as an argument. ShipRater examines the Package as well as the BoxType, and returns a list of possible shipping rates/methods. What I would like to do is construct an Interface, IRateable, that would be supplied to the helper class ShipRater. So instead of: Class ShipRater Sub New(SomePackage as Package) End Sub End Class we would do: Class ShipRater Sub New(SomePackage as IRateable) End Sub End Class However, ShipRater requires information from both the Package and its aggregate, BoxType. If I write an interface IRateable, then how can I use the BoxType properties to implement part of the Interface? Is this possible?

  • Text formatting within textarea

    Variations on my problem have been discussed elsewhere, so I hope I'm not duplicating! I'm implementing a simple Private Messaging System as part of a web app. I've got an annoying problem though when dynamically inserting text into a textarea box in order to make a reply. Getting the content and displaying it is fine, but I can't work out how to format it correctly. Obviously, I can't use html tags, but plain text formatting like line breaks and carriage returns seem to be ignored too. This happens when an existing message is being displayed either as part of a reply or as a thread in a new message. How do I check what formatting is being saved in my db? Or indeed what formatting is being sent back from my db?!
