  • mysql 5.0.23 vs 5.5 performance benefits and upgrade issues?

    I have been told that mysql 5.5 has a significant performance boost compared to 5.0 Our server handles a lot of data (around 30 million records processed per 5-10 seconds) and requires every drop of performance boost we can give. Will it be beneficial if we upgrade from 5.0.23 to mysql 5.5? Also, we have lots of database indexes setup on the tables and I've been told that sometimes the indexes become corrupt after a version upgrade and they have to be rebuilt. Is this true?

  • WPF & RenderTierCapability, what could cause a machine to be dropped from Tier 2 to 0?

    I'm having an issue on some imaged machines where they will started out on Tier 2 and after some time of use (they are well spec'd kiosk machines, quad-core, Nvidia 550Ti), they drop to Tier 0 and effectively become useless. Restarting the machine doesn't seem to help. This is a problem more than just "missing hardware acceleration" because my application requires D3DImage to function (which requires Tier 2). Thanks for any help!

    I'd like to write a simple script that alerts me if a log changes. For this I'm using grep to find the lines I'm interested in. Right now it works like this: grep line /var/log/file | mail -s Log [email protected] Problem is that this sends a mail even if no matching lines are found. The mail utility from mailutils seems to have no switch telling it to drop mails that have an empty body. Is there a quick and easy way to do so?

  • Can I boot my notebook via eSata pci-xpress card?

    I would like to boot directly from an external hard disk to improve performance over my internal notebook hard disk. My notebook has no native eSata jack but a pci express card. As my BIOS doesn't support the card on boot time so no way directly booting it. My question is, is it possible to work around this issue by using an USB stick or similar with a boot loader like grub and if so, will this only work for Linux or Windows as well?

    I am trying to sync my (Mac) desktop, with an iPad and an iPhone. OSX mounts WebDAV as a native filesystem, but syncing results in all files in my directory structure being copied again. This occurs when I use rsync -a or even a simple rsync -r. Various iPhone OS apps use the WebDAV server in iPhone OSX to transfer files. This occurs on several apps I use including GoodReader.

I have new units that haven't even had the partition table created on them, and I'm trying to come up with a one (or two) step process for getting a disk image onto them.     Hello, I've just bought a Samsung XL2370 with a native resolution of 1920x1080. Should a Radeon X1300 be capable of shifting around windows on a screen that size? Because maximising and minimising windows, scrolling in Firefox and VS2008 seems very slow and jerky. Does the Radeon X1300 have any hardware accelearation? My old display was only 1028x768 and I never noticed any problems. Maybe is it time to buy a new graphics card? Thanks, AJ

    Hi all I have recently purchased some so called 256gb Kingston drives that are fake I used a program called check flash and few other to check for dead sectors and read speed and read and write speed the results are as follows: they were reading at 1.35 mbps at best they read and wrote at 0.95 mbps and had a hell of a lot of dead sectors so what I ask is: Is there a way to drop the size to improve speed Is there any other way to improve speed How can I stop the device from addressing the dead sectors Any help will be much appreciated ALL THE THANKS (MADYOTTO)

    In early 2010 my motherboard freaked out, and I was able to drop in a new board and connect my two DVD drives that were initially bought in 2005. Tonight my new components arrived to build my next system, and I figured I'd just reuse the old DVD drives. Surprise, the long flat connector cable has no mate on the new motherboard. Reckon I'll just pick up a new DVD drive for $25, but what gives? Thanks!

  • Why is 'System' process at 100%?

    On Windows 7, the 'system' process is taking up 100% CPU (well 50% on a duel core) for a rather long time. Its CPU usage doesn't seem to drop at all. How can I diagnose this problem? What could be the cause? I don't see any other problems with the system and am using an up-to-date AVG, so I don't yet suspect a maelware.

    I would like to do something like that: An object ReportingFile that can be a LogRequest or a LogReport file. ( both got the same structure) An object Reporting containing for one logRequest, a list of logReport with a date. I tryed to set an EmbededId, that would be an attribute of the logRequest. And that's the problem i got. I don't arrive to mannage embedded id.   • VSS: Move file from one folder to another?

    Is there a way in Visual SourceSafe to move a file from one directory to another while retaining its history? Edit I actually found a round about way to do this. First I drag the file I want to move to the directory I want to move it to, this creates a "Link" to the file there and then I "permanently destroy" the file in its original location. Does this actually do what I thing it does?
