• Tool Review: Telerik JustDecompile

  In the next few lines, I will be providing a brief review of Telerik’s JustDecompile, a free .Net decompiler and assembly browser. In using Telerik’s 2012 Q3 JustDecompile release, one can see many great features.  First off, I loved the built-in options for loading .Net assemblies automatically using the Open->Load Framework menu option. Other options enable loading assemblies from GAC, XAP URL or locally from disk. The ability to create an “Assembly List” is quiet handy for grouping and saving a “List” of DLLs to load. All loaded assemblies are shown in the left panel of a split-panel screen. Clicking an assembly expands all namespaces within. Drilling further to class level displays the actual source code in the right panel in either IL, C# or Visual Basic. In conclusion, JustDecompile has grown and quickly matured into an indispensible handy tool for us developers. Telerik’s effort in maintaining and updating JustDecompile as well as the company’s commitment to keeping it free is much appreciated and valued.

The ratified candidates are:  Cinterion, Credit Suisse, Fujitsu and HP.The elected candidates are (9 candidates, 2 open seats):  Cisco Systems, CloudBees, Giuseppe Dell'Abate, Liferay, London Java Community, MoroccoJUG, North Sixty-One, Software AG, and Zero Turnaround. For community representation, the London Java Community is running for re-election. • Do Nvidia's drivers work in 12.10?

  I recently upgraded to 12.10 and was just checking for proprietary drivers to be installed. I found this in software sources When I enabled Nvidia binary Xorg driver, unity disappears along with the launcher and everything. I just have the wallpaper. I did manage to open the terminal and open software sources and select the nouveau display driver which fixed it. Question is how to enable NVIDIA binary Xorg driver and have everything working? Hardware: Apple MacBook Pro 9,1 Mid 2012 15 inch non-retina. NVIDIA GeForce GT650M EDIT: I tried the solution here. And now, when I boot into Ubuntu, I get a blinking cursor. That's all! No tty1, nothing. help !!

• Can't see YouTube videos in either Firefox or Chromium

  Dont' know why or if it is related, after upgrading Ubuntu 10.04 kernel ( I guess from 2.6.32-38 to -42) I can's see youtube videos. I checked the flash plug-ins installed and I have: (1) flashplugin-installer, (2) flashplugin-nonfree and (3) flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound. I haven't reinstalled the browsers yet. • Building a Repository Pattern against an EF 5 EDMX Model - Part 1

  I am part of a year long plus project that is re-writing an existing application for a client.  We have decided to develop the project using Visual Studio 2012 and .NET 4.5.  The project will be using a number of technologies and patterns to include Entity Framework 5, WCF Services, and WPF for the client UI.This is my attempt at documenting some of the successes and failures that I will be coming across in the development of the application.In building the data access layer we have to access a database that has already been designed by a dedicated dba. The dba insists on using Stored Procedures which has made the use of EF a little more difficult.  He will not allow direct table access but we did manage to get him to allow us to use Views.  Since EF 5 does not have good support to do Code First with Stored Procedures, my option was to create a model (EDMX) against the existing database views.   I then had to go select each entity and map the Insert/Update/Delete functions to their respective stored procedure. • Print jobs to Epson Stylus Photo 640 all stopped after upgrade 10.04 to 12.04

  Upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04 on 19th oct 2012. Now all print jobs end up in the print queue with the label "Stopped". Reinstalled the printer driver - it is gutenberg 5.2.8 pre1. Looking at "http://localhost:631/jobs" shows an error message by each stopped job as follows:"The PPD version (5.2.5 Simplified) is not compatible with Gutenprint 5.2.8-pre1." Found a long bug-fixing history in bugs.launchpad.net which seem to imply that this problem has been fixed. It seems to be a problem with the installation not updating the ppd files. Is there any workaround to fix this problem?

  ...but there's no reason why we can't look forward to the next one! It's going to take all week for me to catch up on last week's neglected email, sort through the freshly-collected business cards, and generally make sense of the mad dash that is Oracle OpenWorld. So I've been playing this amazing video (produced by Lozano Productions) to remind me of the last business/IT conference marathon I survived: Collaborate 2012. It was an amazing event where we officially launched the new design of Profit and enjoyed a drink with some of our closest friends--Oracle partners, customers, and peers. Many thanks to those who came out to celebrate and who continue to help make Profit a success. It was a great time that resulted in a lot of great new work and new relationships. So I'm taking a time out to remember that the hard work is worth it. See you in Denver next year!

• Best choice for 3D Physics Engine for C#/XNA

  Since 2007 I've been working on the development of an open-source game engine, and have been using JigLibX for 3D Physics. However, the developers on the project have stopped contributing to it for over 2 years now, and it's lacking features I need, or have major bugs in certain features. What are some good choices for 3D physics engines that are written purely in C#? Are there any that are more complete than JigLibX? EDIT: I just stumbled upon an engine called BEPUphysics. It was supported up until May 2012, which is fairly recent. I may check it out, any information that you guys could give on how complete the engine is would be great.
