  • Fastest Java web templating language

    I'm about to start in on a new Spring MVC project, and I'm examining the various options for the view. I've never been a fan of JSP, and I've run into JSP-related performance problems in the past, so I was looking through the other options. I'm hoping that somewhere somebody's taken a census of the various options (maybe it'll have to be me) and pronounced which ones are quick, or at least which options there are. Here are the choices I've thought of, ordered from obvious to bizarre: JSP, JSTL Velocity FreeMarker GSP (Groovy JSP) ERB powered by IronRuby or some such craziness Tea Any suggestions, personal preferences, or other good options for the list?

    Hi, I have an arraylist set up. I have input instuctions set up too, so that the user can enter one string, then one integer, then one string (the first name, the age, and the last name). I need to sort the arraylist by the last name.     I'm rather young and so I haven't experienced the times when COBOL was still in use and even going mainstream, maybe you can help me out. Everywhere I go and surf I: Am getting told about how horrible COBOL is See sites making fun of COBOL Hear that I should be happy that I don't have to use COBOL, from older programmers See others make anti-COBOL-ist jokes I don't know much about COBOL, except that it is still used everywhere as many old systems haven't got refactored and that it is even still developed and managed. I have also looked at some COBOL code examples but it seems like they are as rare and expensive as unicorn blood. If you close this question or give me sarcastic, irrelevant answers I'll have to learn COBOL to find it out the hard way. I'm serious.

  • Finding specific words in a file (Python language)

    I have to write a program in python where the user is given a menu with four different "word games". There is a file called dictionary.txt and one of the games requires the user to input a) the number of letters in a word and b) a letter to exclude from the words being searched in the dictionary (dictionary.txt has the whole dictionary). Then the program prints the words that follow the user's requirements. My question is how on earth do I open the file and search for words with a certain length in that file. I only have a basic code which only asks the user for inputs. I'm am very new at this please help :( this is what I have up to the first option. The others are fine and I know how to break the loop but this specific one is really giving me trouble. I have tried everything and I just keep getting errors. Honestly, I only took this class because someone said it would be fun. It is, but recently I've really been falling behind and I have no idea what to do now.     Hello SO, I want to be able to develop code using Visual Studio 2010. I just got VS2010 and I'm not able to get the languages I want on it. The main reason that I'm asking this is that I'm trying to migrate to ONE IDE that does it all for me. Thus far eclipse has been doing a good job, but I've been informed that VS2010 is better and I'm trying to get into the groove of that standard So my question is two-fold. I am not able to find a complete list of languages supported by VS2010. What are these languages? How can I get VS2010 support for: a. Python/IronPython b. C/C++/C#/XNA c. Java My Googling has given me no promising/definitive results. I'd really appreciate any help.

    Background: My fiancée needs a Mac Pro for movie editing and rendering. I need a web server and a backup solution for my MacBook Pro. Idea We thought we could split the costs of the Mac Pro and set it up to act as both a web server and a backup device. Question Is this a good idea? Specifically: Is it easy to set it up to incrementally backup one or several laptops over wifi? And what software would you recommend? Is it silent and stable enough to run a web server continuously? Will it manage all this, including simultaneous editing? Thanks.

  • Looking for a fast, compact, streamable, multi-language, strongly typed serialization format

    I'm currently using JSON (compressed via gzip) in my Java project, in which I need to store a large number of objects (hundreds of millions) on disk. I have one JSON object per line, and disallow linebreaks within the JSON object. This way I can stream the data off disk line-by-line without having to read the entire file at once. It turns out that parsing the JSON code (using http://www.json.org/java/) is a bigger overhead than either pulling the raw data off disk, or decompressing it (which I do on the fly). Ideally what I'd like is a strongly-typed serialization format, where I can specify "this object field is a list of strings" (for example), and because the system knows what to expect, it can deserialize it quickly. I can also specify the format just by giving someone else its "type". It would also need to be cross-platform. I use Java, but work with people using PHP, Python, and other languages. So, to recap, it should be: Strongly typed Streamable (ie. read a file bit by bit without having to load it all into RAM at once) Cross platform (including Java and PHP) Fast Free (as in speech) Any pointers?

    Hello you all! I just made an application which purpose is to find an x result using the rule of three. It runs fine and everything but there is a small problem. I am using WinXP Europpean Spanish version. As we all know, in many europpean countries the decimal dot is changed by a " , " comma. When I use my application, it turns out that when I press the dot key on my keyboard´s number pad, my application doesnt take it as a normal decimal dot and it ignores it... so I need to manually press the comma key so it can give me the right answer. How can I solve this problem?

  • Can Hibernate default a Null String to Empty String

    In our application we are pulling data from a DB2 mainframe database. If the database has "low values" in a field, hibernate sends a "null" value in the object. This occurs even if the column is defined as "not null". As we are doing XML parsing on this, Castor is having trouble with it. I would like to fix this in Hibernate. Also, all of the hibernate hbm files are generated, so we can't mess with them (they are regened from time to time.) Any way to intercept all Strings and replace nulls with ""?

  • Expand / Collapse Swimlane (Domain Specific Language) C#

    I have multiple swimlanes on the surface, Is it possible to have expand / collapse functionality to these swimlanes?. My swimlanes are going to contain different shapes (Image Shapes), Geometry shape etc. I have tried the nesting of a geometry shpes but it only contains the geometry shapes not image shapes i.e. I have already created a Geometry shape with it's type as a RectangleD and by writing its partial class I have overridden the Expand() and Collapse() methods but to no avail because this particular Shape (Container) going to contain only Geometry shapes and not the Image shapes. Now I am trying to expand / collapse the swimlanes itself. Please let me know if anyone has done this before.

  • Is eclipse's Garbage Collector different than the default?

    From questions posted here and an old one of mine I have created the impression that you cannot explicitly run the Java Garbage Collector whenever you please. If you call it, you simply instruct the system to call it whenever it can or thinks is appropriate. But in eclipse, if you press the "Run Garbage Collector" button you see an immediate reduction in memory usage. How is that possible? Is eclipse using a different Garbage Collector, does it have access to some secret API that we don't or is my conception of how the GC works wrong?
