• Outlook Anywhere inconsistencies with authentication methods

  So I've read this question and attempted just about every other workaround I've found online. Problem seems completely illogical to me, anyways: SBS 2011, vanilla install; haven't touched anything in IIS or Exchange outside of what's been done through the checklist (brand new domain, completely new customer) except to import an existing wildcard certificate for *.example.com (which is valid, Remote Web Workplace and Outlook Web Access work fine). On the two test machines and one production machine running a mixture of Windows XP Pro, Windows 7 and Outlook 2003 through to 2010, I've had no problem saving the password after configuring Outlook Anywhere using the wrong authentication method. I repeat, I have had no issues using the wrong authentication method on these test machines; password saves the first time, no problem, can verify it exists in the credentials manager (Start Run control userpasswords2), close Outlook, reboot, go make a sammie, come back, credentials are still saved. When I say wrong, it's because I was choosing NTLM and Exchange (under Exchange Console Server Configuration Client Access) was set by default to use Basic. On two completely different machines setup by a co-worker, they had (under my guidance) used NTLM as well... except that frustratingly, Outlook would always ask for a password. One machine was Windows XP with Outlook 2010, the other was Windows 7 with Outlook 2003. When these two machines were set to use Basic -- the correct settings -- the option to save was there and now works without issue. Puzzled by how my machines could possibly work with the wrong authentication, I then went into one of them and changed the authentication method to Basic. Now here's where it gets a little crazy: if I go under Outlook and change the authentication to use the correct setting (Basic) it fails to save the password and Outlook prompts every time (without a "remember me" checkbox). I have not had a chance to change it to Basic on the other two machines to see if this is just a fluke or not, but something just isn't right here. My two hunches are either a missing/installed KB Update or perhaps a local security policy. I should add that none of the 5 test machines in the equation here have ever been joined to the domain.

• Unable to SSH into EC2 instance on Fedora 17

  I did following steps But I am not able to SSH to it(Same steps work fine on Fedora 14 image).   Trying to migrate data from C: to D: via the SBS console is failing. The wizard starts running but drops out in the first few seconds. • Why doesn't the People Pane in Outlook 2010 show appointments for individual contacts?

  Outlook 2010 will not show appointments in the people pane. Under the activities tab if I go to All Items then eventually the appointments will show, but this takes a seriously long time. If I then click off the tab to look at another field then return to All Items, all the appointments are gone again. I need to be able to: Open a contact and see when that contact has appointments Open an appointment and see which contacts are attached to that appointment It works well from the appointment card to the contact, but has me completely frustrated going from the contact card to find the appontments. I have tried many things but cannot solve this problem. My set up is as follows: Exchange Server Windows 7 Ultimate Indexing enabled Cached exchange mode enabled Help! This is the whole reason I installed Outlook 2010.

  We recently had an issues where I had rebooted our EC2 instance (Ubuntu x86_64, version 9.10 server) and due to an EC2 issue the instance needed to be stopped and was down for a few days. Now I have been able to bring the instance back online I cannot connect to SSH using the keypair which previously worked.   Should I run a server-specific antivirus, regular antivirus, or no antivirus at all on my servers, particularly my Domain Controllers? Here's some background about why I'm asking this question: I've never questioned that antivirus software should be running on all windows machines, period. Lately I've had some obscure Active Directory related issues that I have tracked down to antivirus software running on our domain controllers. The specific issue was that Symantec Endpoint Protection was running on all domain controllers. Occasionally, our Exchange server triggered a false-positive in Symantec's "Network Threat Protection" on each DC in sequence. After exhausting access to all DCs, Exchange began refusing requests, presumably because it could not communicate with any Global Catalog servers or perform any authentication. Outages would last about ten minutes at a time, and would occur once every few days. It took a long time to isolate the problem because it was not easily reproducible and generally investigation was done after the issue resolved itself.

  Topology and setup We have main office A, and branch office (abroad) B. Our ISP somehow messed up the MPLS, and office A<B will not be connected until a few days. At location B, we have an AD (and the other two ADs at location A). Location A also have an exchange server. The problems A few users at A have problem to login to their computers running Windows XP, the logon process kind of hangs where "Applying computer policies". Additionally, I can't start the Exchange management shell, it fails on get-recipient because the AD abroad (location B) is unreachable. Solution? I could delete the AD at B, but Im pretty sure it will be a hazzle to re-join it, and since the office is abroad it's not an option to just go there and re-install it - re join, I now wonder how I in location As primary and secondary ADs can temporarily disable AD at location B.

However I can do a VNC session running on my ubuntu server.. But I am afraid that if the vnc session goes out, I wont be having any way to login to the server..   Hi all I would like to do ssh from machine "ub0" to another machine "ub1" without using passwords. I setup using nfs on "ub0" but still I am asked to insert a password. Here is my scenario: * machine ub0 and ub1 have the same user "mpiu", with same pwd, same userid, and same group id * the 2 servers are sharing a folder that is the HOME directory for "mpiu" * I did a chmod 700 on the .ssh * I created a key using ssh-keygene -t dsa * I did "cat id_dsa.pub authorized_keys". On this last file I tried also chmod 600 and chmod 640 * off course I can guarantee that on machine ub1 the user "shared_user" can see the same fodler that wes mounted with no problem. • Is it possible to repair a Cisco 3500 XL (3548) switch with POST Error messages?

  I've got an old Cisco 3500 XL, and it seems to have hardware issues. I've loaded the latest IOS and cleared all config. Does anyone have any experience fixing the switch core? I'm a reasonably competent SMD solderer, can I replace/reflow some chips? I've checked the power supply voltages and it's all within tolerance, and no visible signs of any component damage. Some chips are hot to the touch. I understand that these were EOL as of 2007, but should have a lifetime warranty for the electronics. I don't have a Cisco support contract, so I can't file a ticket. What should I do? • Blackberry Enterprise Server - Not running?

  My BlackBerry enterprise server recently stopped forwarding messages to devices. In fact, the server claims that the last time it communicated with all the devices associated with it, was on Thursday night (4 nights ago.) The catch is this, the Exchange server is running properly (or as properly as Exchange can run :) ) The SQL server seems to be running properly. And the Blackberry Enterprise server seems to be running correctly. Other than the fact that the server has not communicated with any device since Thursday, and the fact that I am not getting messages, there appears to be nothing wrong. How do I get these message to be forwarded to devices again? I have restarted the BES services in the order suggested by the BlackBerry folks to no avail.

  I'm running an Exchange 2003 server on a Telstra Business internet connection (in Australia). I'm routing emails through the SMTP connecter, using the host smtp.telstrabusiness.com When users send single emails to a single recipient, the emails are sent correctly. However, when users send emails to a distribution list, they bounce back with: The message could not be delivered because the recipient's destination email system is unknown or invalid. Please check the address and try again, or contact your system administrator to verify connectivity to the email system of the recipient. One of the people in the list was able to recieve a single email from us just a few minutes afterwards, but did not recieve any of the email that should have come from the distribution list. Is there a way I can throttle the number of messages that Exchange will send at a time, so as not to appear as spam to Telstra?

  192.168.3.1(ASA) - 192.168.2.1(ASA) - ( internet ) - 192.168.1.1(ASA) DomainController, FS, Exchange 192.168.0.1(ASA) - above is a rough idea what my network setup looks like. each internal ip (192.168.x.x) is located behind an ASA. Each location has a different gateway for the internet. They all talk to the 192.168.1.1 network for dns, dhcp, dc, exchange and so on. They can only see the 192.168.1.1, they can not see each other. In my Static Routes on my 192.168.1.1 ASA, should i have them configure as follows? example: 192.168.x.x 255.255.255.0 Locations_Internet_Gateway_IP OR 192.168.x.x 255.255.255.0 Main_Locations_Internet_Gateway_IP not sure which configurtation is correct, thanks in advance for any help!

• What could cause my LAN Pings be greater than 100ms?

  I have 2 servers (Both: Windows Server 2008, Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz, 32GB RAM, 8 x 15k SAS Drives). One of them is a DC / Web server / Exchange Server, the other is a SQL Server (2008). I have a 48 port Netgear GS748T Gigabit switch. When I ping from server to server, I get ping times <1ms, great, but when I ping from a PC, I get varying pings from the occasional <1ms to 500ms!! If I log into either server and look at Task Manager, CPU usage peaks at 20%, memory usage is 100%, but I am led to believe this is normal as Exchange will just use as much as you have, and release it when requested. Network usage peaks at 1%. I really don't understand how the ping can vary that much. I know I am giving very little info, but this is all I know, I apologise, but can anyone help? In response to question, I have pinged by both IP address and hostname, no difference in ping times.

• Where did this incorrect cached DNS lookup come from?

  Somehow, I've been having a chronic issue where my computer will get an invalid DNS lookup in its cache for either of the two Exchange servers I use from Mail.app. My workplace runs one of the Exchange servers and I run the other (they are totally unrelated, hosted by different companies, etc.). The problem manifests as a certificate domain error. When it happens, I can run nslookup mail.mydomain.com and I see the incorrect IP address (usually owned by either Apple or Akamai), but if I run nslookup mail.mydomain.com 8.8.8.8, I get the correct address. My real quest is to find out why this keeps happening, and to do that, I'd like to know which server is supplying me this bad DNS entry. Is there a way to check my DNS cache to see where this bad lookup came from?

I have found the following code that works in Outlook 2007, but not Outlook 2003, and I would like to refrain from using 3rd party programs. I did find an article describing how you can retrieve it with a program called MFCMAPI, but I was wondering if there are any other solutions as how to solve it (without reinstalling Outlook)? The mailbox is located on an exchange server and she also has the issue on several computers. However, our exchange guy says that there is nothing wrong with the server. • Backup a hosted Sharepoint

  One of my customers has outsourced their Sharepoint and Exchange services to a hosted services provider. I believe it is a Sharepoint 2007 service. It is a shared hosting solution, so we do not have any kind of access to the server itself; we only have user-level and sharepoint-administrator-level access to the Sharepoint application. They have come to the point where they would like to have a copy of everything that is on the Sharepoint server. I have downloaded the Office Sharepoint Designer 2007, and it features three (!) ways to backup a Sharepoint server, none (!) of which work for me: File-Export-Personal Web Package: When selecting everything, it calculates a negative size. Barfs with No "content-type" in CGI environment error. File-Export-Sharepoint Template: barfs with a A World Wide Web browser, such as Windows Internet Explorer, is required to use this feature error. Site-Administration-Backup Web Site: wants to create the backup .cmp file on the sharepoint server itself. I don't have access to any servers on the same network so I can't redirect it to any form of the suggested \\server\place. Barfs with a The Web application at $URL could not be found. [...] error. Possibly moot because Google tells me that bad things happen using OSD to back up sites larger than 24MB (which this site is most definitely). So I called the helpdesk of the outsource provider, and got told that they recommend using OSD, but no they don't actually provide any application support for OSD (not that I blame them for that), but they could do a stsadm.exe backup and provide us with that, and OSD should be able to read the resulting cmp file. Then for authorization reasons they had my customer call them directly (since I can't authorize such an operation), and they told him that he didn't want a stsadm.exe backup, he wanted to get into an 'explorer view' and deal with things that way (they were vague). Google hasn't been much help in figuring out what an 'explorer view' is, let alone how I bring one up. The end goal of this operation is to have a backup of the site as it exists (hopefully today, but shortly anyways) in such a format that we don't need another sharepoint server to restore it to. Ie we'd like to be able to pick individual content directly out of this backup. We are not excessively concerned with things like formatting. We just want the documents. This is a fairly complex site with multiple subsites and multiple folders per subsite, so sitting there and manually downloading each file isn't really going to happen if there is a better easier way. So, my questions: Is the stsadm.exe backup what I want? If not, what do I want? If I manage to convince them that I do want the stsadm.exe backup, can I pick files out of the resulting backup file with OSD? If OSD isn't going to let me extract individual files, is there a tool I can use that can?

• How to get rid of messages addressed to not existing subdomains?

  Hi! I have small problem with my sendmail server and need your little help :-) My situation is as follow: User mailboxes are placed on MS exchanege server and all mail to and from outside world are relayed trough my sendmail box. Exchange server ----- sendmail server ------ Internet My servers accept messages for one main domain (say, my.domain.com) and for few other domains (let we narrow it too just one, say my_other.domain.com). After configuring sendmail with showed bellow abbreviated sendmail.mc file, essentially everything works ok, but there is small problem. I want to reject messages addressed to not existing recipients as soon as possible (to avoid sending non delivery reports), so my sendmail server make LDAP queries to exchange server, validating every recipient address. This works well both domains but not for subdomains. Such subdomains do not exist, but someone (I'm mean those heated spamers :-) could try addresses like this: user@any_host.my.domain.com or user@any_host.my_other.domain.com and for those addresses results are as follows: Messages to user@sendmail_hostname.my.domain.com are rejected with error "Unknown user" (due to additional LDAPROUTE_DOMAIN line in my sendmail.mc file, and this is expected behaviour) Messages to user@any_other_hostname.my.domain.com are rejected with error "Relaying denied". Little strange to me, why this time the error is different, but still ok. After all message was rejected and I don't care very much what error code will be returned to sender (spamer). Messages to user@sendmail_hostname.my_other.domain.com and user@any_other_hostname.my_other.domain.com are rejected with error "Unknown user" but only when, there is no user@my_other.domain.com mailbox (on exchange server). If such mailbox exist, then all three addresses (i.e. user@my_other.domain.com, user@sendmail_hostname.my_other.domain.com and user@any_other_hostname.my_other.domain.com) will be accepted. • help setting up an IPSEC vpn from my linux box

  I have an office with a router and a remote server (Linux - Ubuntu 10.10). Both locations need to connect to a data supplier through a VPN. The VPN is an IPSEC gateway. I was able to configure my Linksys rv42 router to create a VPN connection successfully and now I need to do the same for Linux server. I have been messing around with this for too long. First I tried OpenVPN, but that is SSL and not IPSEC. Then I tried Shrew. I think I have the settings correct but I haven't been able to create the connection. It maybe that I have to use something else like a direct IPSEC config or something like that. If someone knows of a way to turn the following settings that I have been given below into a working IPSEC VPN connection I would be very grateful. • Symantec CPS / Backup Exec 11D Service stuck in "Starting" Status

  I have two Windows 2003 (one is SE, one is SBS) both SP2, both are Virtual Machines of Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2. All of a sudden about 2 weeks ago, the Symantec Backup Exec / CPS 11D stopped working on them. One is the Media server, one is our Exchange 2003 Server. There is another copy of CPS on our file server that the service is running fine on. However the one that is fine is not a VM. When I say stop working, the "backup exec continuous protection agent" service is stuck in "starting" status. On the non Exchange server I've tried uninstalling the last Windows Updates that were run some time around the time of failure. I've tried repairing the install of CPS. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling. Exact same problem in the end.
