  • Firefox: non-Vimperator way to do mouseless browsing?

    - by Peter Mortensen
Is it possible to do efficient browsing with Firefox using only the keyboard (like in Opera)? By efficient I mean something faster than using TAB - this takes far too long. The arrow keys should be for navigation (in Opera it is Shift + arrow key). It can done with the Vimperator add-on, but isn't there a simpler way? Update 2: the closest to Opera's way is to enable caret navigation (F7 toggles this mode). It doesn't jump between links so it is a little bit slower, but the normal navigation (arrow keys, page up, page down, etc.) works and the focus/caret/cursor follows (in contrast to a text editor for page up/down). And text can be selected and copied like in a text editor. The biggest drawback is that in practice it is necessary to switch in and out of caret mode. And there is no indication of which mode is currently active. Update 1: a work-around (proposed by several but is not really what I am looking for) can be used if 3 settings are changed (to make it practical). After these changes the first few letters of a link text can be typed and that link will selected so pressing Enter will open it. Using the work-around the screen will jump around if it is a long page as it does not restrict itself to the current visible page, but it is usable. First settings change: menu Tools/Options/Advanced/tab General/Accessibility/Search for text when I start typing Turn this option on. Second settings change: set option to only go to links; in address bar enter: about:config followed by Enter. Then: press "I'll be careful, I promise", find the line accessibility.typeaheadfind.linksonly, select it and change the value to True by either hitting Enter or Shift+F10/Toggle (accessibility.typeaheadfind.linksonly is on line 11 when I tried). Third settings change: turn off case-sensitivity. Set accessibility.typeaheadfind.casesensitive to 0 (same procedure as for accessibility.typeaheadfind.linksonly, see above. When Enter is pressed a dialog box will appear with the current value. Type 0 and press Enter). To use: type some part of the link. If there are several possibilities use Ctrl+G (or F3) to jump between them. Use Ctrl+Enter to open in a new tab. Platform: Firefox 3.0.6, Windows XP 64 bit SP2.

  • I need help on my C++ assignment using Microsoft Visual C++

    - by krayzwytie
Ok, so I don't want you to do my homework for me, but I'm a little lost with this final assignment and need all the help I can get. Learning about programming is tough enough, but doing it online is next to impossible for me... Now, to get to the program, I am going to paste what I have so far. This includes mostly //comments and what I have written so far. If you can help me figure out where all the errors are and how to complete the assignment, I will really appreciate it. Like I said, I don't want you to do my homework for me (it's my final), but any constructive criticism is welcome. This is my final assignment for this class and it is due tomorrow (Sunday before midnight, Arizona time). This is the assignment: Examine the following situation: Your company, Datamax, Inc., is in the process of automating its payroll systems. Your manager has asked you to create a program that calculates overtime pay for all employees. Your program must take into account the employee’s salary, total hours worked, and hours worked more than 40 in a week, and then provide an output that is useful and easily understood by company management. Compile your program utilizing the following background information and the code outline in Appendix D (included in the code section). Submit your project as an attachment including the code and the output. Company Background: Three employees: Mark, John, and Mary The end user needs to be prompted for three specific pieces of input—name, hours worked, and hourly wage. Calculate overtime if input is greater than 40 hours per week. Provide six test plans to verify the logic within the program. Plan 1 must display the proper information for employee #1 with overtime pay. Plan 2 must display the proper information for employee #1 with no overtime pay. Plans 3-6 are duplicates of plan 1 and 2 but for the other employees. Program Requirements: Define a base class to use for the entire program. The class holds the function calls and the variables related to the overtime pay calculations. Define one object per employee. Note there will be three employees. Your program must take the objects created and implement calculations based on total salaries, total hours, and the total number of overtime hours. See the Employee Summary Data section of the sample output. Logic Steps to Complete Your Program: Define your base class. Define your objects from your base class. Prompt for user input, updating your object classes for all three users. Implement your overtime pay calculations. Display overtime or regular time pay calculations. See the sample output below. Implement object calculations by summarizing your employee objects and display the summary information in the example below. And this is the code: // Final_Project.cpp : Defines the entry point for the console application. // #include "stdafx.h" #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <iomanip> using namespace std; // //CLASS DECLARATION SECTION // class CEmployee { public: void ImplementCalculations(string EmployeeName, double hours, double wage); void DisplayEmployInformation(void); void Addsomethingup (CEmployee, CEmployee, CEmployee); string EmployeeName ; int hours ; int overtime_hours ; int iTotal_hours ; int iTotal_OvertimeHours ; float wage ; float basepay ; float overtime_pay ; float overtime_extra ; float iTotal_salaries ; float iIndividualSalary ; }; int main() { system("cls"); cout << "Welcome to the Employee Pay Center"; /* Use this section to define your objects. You will have one object per employee. You have only three employees. The format is your class name and your object name. */ std::cout << "Please enter Employee's Name: "; std::cin >> EmployeeName; std::cout << "Please enter Total Hours for (EmployeeName): "; std::cin >> hours; std::cout << "Please enter Base Pay for(EmployeeName): "; std::cin >> basepay; /* Here you will prompt for the first employee’s information. Prompt the employee name, hours worked, and the hourly wage. For each piece of information, you will update the appropriate class member defined above. Example of Prompts Enter the employee name = Enter the hours worked = Enter his or her hourly wage = */ /* Here you will prompt for the second employee’s information. Prompt the employee name, hours worked, and the hourly wage. For each piece of information, you will update the appropriate class member defined above. Enter the employee name = Enter the hours worked = Enter his or her hourly wage = */ /* Here you will prompt for the third employee’s information. Prompt the employee name, hours worked, and the hourly wage. For each piece of information, you will update the appropriate class member defined above. Enter the employee name = Enter the hours worked = Enter his or her hourly wage = */ /* Here you will implement a function call to implement the employ calcuations for each object defined above. You will do this for each of the three employees or objects. The format for this step is the following: [(object name.function name(objectname.name, objectname.hours, objectname.wage)] ; */ /* This section you will send all three objects to a function that will add up the the following information: - Total Employee Salaries - Total Employee Hours - Total Overtime Hours The format for this function is the following: - Define a new object. - Implement function call [objectname.functionname(object name 1, object name 2, object name 3)] /* } //End of Main Function void CEmployee::ImplementCalculations (string EmployeeName, double hours, double wage){ //Initialize overtime variables overtime_hours=0; overtime_pay=0; overtime_extra=0; if (hours > 40) { /* This section is for the basic calculations for calculating overtime pay. - base pay = 40 hours times the hourly wage - overtime hours = hours worked – 40 - overtime pay = hourly wage * 1.5 - overtime extra pay over 40 = overtime hours * overtime pay - salary = overtime money over 40 hours + your base pay */ /* Implement function call to output the employee information. Function is defined below. */ } // if (hours > 40) else { /* Here you are going to calculate the hours less than 40 hours. - Your base pay is = your hours worked times your wage - Salary = your base pay */ /* Implement function call to output the employee information. Function is defined below. */ } // End of the else } //End of Primary Function void CEmployee::DisplayEmployInformation(); { // This function displays all the employee output information. /* This is your cout statements to display the employee information: Employee Name ............. = Base Pay .................. = Hours in Overtime ......... = Overtime Pay Amount........ = Total Pay ................. = */ } // END OF Display Employee Information void CEmployee::Addsomethingup (CEmployee Employ1, CEmployee Employ2) { // Adds two objects of class Employee passed as // function arguments and saves them as the calling object's data member values. /* Add the total hours for objects 1, 2, and 3. Add the salaries for each object. Add the total overtime hours. */ /* Then display the information below. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% %%%% EMPLOYEE SUMMARY DATA%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% %%%% Total Employee Salaries ..... = 576.43 %%%% Total Employee Hours ........ = 108 %%%% Total Overtime Hours......... = 5 %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% */ } // End of function

  • jQuery validate : multiple form, single validation

    - by I-M-JM
Hi all I have 2 forms, namely (ids mentioned) 'add_product' and 'edit_product' Now I am using jQuery validation plug-in, both the forms have same validation (similar to mentioned in following example) jQuery("#add_product").validate({ rules: { name:"required", price:"number" }, messages: { name:"Please enter Plan Name", price:"Enter a valid number" } }); and jQuery("#edit_product").validate({ rules: { name:"required", price:"number" }, messages: { name:"Please enter Plan Name", price:"Enter a valid number" } }); I want to combine them into 1 rule/function, how can I achieve this? Thanks

  • Strange problem with Random Access Filing in C++

    - by sam
    This is a simple random access filing program . The problem arises where i want to write data randomly. If I write any where in the file the previous records are set to 0. the last 1 which is being entered currently holds the correct value all others =0. This is the code #include <iostream> #include<fstream> #include<string> using namespace std; class name { int id; int pass; public: void writeBlank(); void writedata(); void readdata(); void readall(); int getid() { return id; } int getpass() { return pass; } void setid(int i) { id=i; } void setpass(int p) { pass=p; } }; void name::writeBlank() { name person; person.setid(0); person.setpass(0); int i; ofstream out("pass.txt",ios::binary); if ( !out ) { cout << "File could not be opened." << endl; } for(i=0;i<10;i++) //make 10 records { cout<<"Put pointer is at: "<<out.tellp()<<endl; cout<<"Blank record "<<i<<" is: "<<person.getid()<<" "<<person.getpass()<<" and size: "<<sizeof(person)<<endl; cout<<"Put pointer is at: "<<out.tellp()<<endl; out.write(reinterpret_cast< const char * >(&person),sizeof(name)); } } void name::writedata() { ofstream out("pass.txt",ios::binary|ios::out); name n1; int iD,p; cout<<"ID?"; cin>>iD; n1.setid(iD); cout<<"Enter password"; cin>>p; n1.setpass(p); if (!out ) { cout << "File could not be opened." << endl; } out.seekp((n1.getid()-1)*sizeof(name),ios::beg); //pointer moves to desired location where we have to store password according to its ID(index) cout<<"File pointer is at: "<<out.tellp()<<endl; out.write(reinterpret_cast<const char*> (&n1), sizeof(name)); //write on that pointed location } void name::readall() { name n1; ifstream in("pass.txt",ios::binary); if ( !in ) { cout << "File could not be opened." << endl; } in.read( reinterpret_cast<char *>(&n1), sizeof(name) ); while ( !in.eof() ) { // display record cout<<endl<<"password at this index is:"<<n1.getpass()<<endl; cout<<"File pointer is at: "<<in.tellg()<<endl; // read next from file in.read( reinterpret_cast< char * >(&n1), sizeof(name)); } // end while } void name::readdata() { ifstream in("pass.txt",ios::binary); if ( !in ) { cout << "File could not be opened." << endl; } in.seekg((getid()-1)*sizeof(name)); //pointer moves to desired location where we have to read password according to its ID(index) cout<<"File pointer is at: "<<in.tellg()<<endl; in.read((char* )this,sizeof(name)); //reads from that pointed location cout<<endl<<"password at this index is:"<<getpass()<<endl; } int main() { name n1; cout<<"Enter 0 to write blank records"<<endl; cout<<"Enter 1 for new account"<<endl; cout<<"Enter 2 to login"<<endl; cout<<"Enter 3 to read all"<<endl; cout<<"Enter 9 to exit"<<endl; int option; cin>>option; while(option==0 || option==1 || option==2 || option==3) { if (option == 0) n1.writeBlank(); if(option==1) { /*int iD,p; cout<<"ID?"; cin>>iD; n1.setid(iD); cout<<"Enter password"; cin>>p; n1.setpass(p);*/ n1.writedata(); } int ind; if(option==2) { cout<<"Index?"; cin>>ind; n1.setid(ind); n1.readdata(); } if(option == 3) n1.readall(); cout<<"Enter 0 to write blank records"<<endl; cout<<"Enter 1 for new account"<<endl; cout<<"Enter 2 to login"<<endl; cout<<"Enter 3 to read all"<<endl; cout<<"Enter 9 to exit"<<endl; cin>>option; } } I Cant understand Y the previous records turn 0.

  • Why does this program stop running?

Hi everyone....I am developing a card making system...nothing fancy. Right got this far but program now stops running with no error when running after the first card sample i.e. " Enter 'OK' if this card is OK, otherwise enter an alternative border character: + ". Any suggestions Java Masters? //Ask user for input //makes use of print line method System.out.println("Enter name: "); //took the variables //called the object of the scanner 'cardOrder' //and use the Scanner objects method '.nextLine' //to read the next line of the input firstName = cardOrder.nextLine(); mInitial = cardOrder.nextLine(); lastName = cardOrder.nextLine(); //Print out the "Here is a sample card" + the first name, middle initial and last name System.out.println("Here is a sample card: \n\n" + firstName + mInitial + lastName + "**************" + "**************" + firstName + mInitial + lastName + "\n* *" + "\n*" + " " + firstName + mInitial + lastName + " *" + "\n* *\n" + firstName + mInitial + lastName +"**************" + "**************" + firstName + mInitial + lastName + "\n"); //Ask user is the card is OK to proceed to order query or if they want an alternative border character: + System.out.println("Enter 'OK' if this card is OK, otherwise enter an alternative border character: + "); //Check if user entered "OK" and store it in var optionA optionA = cardOrder.nextLine(); //test if (a == optionA){ System.out.println("\nHow many cards would you like? • Run Windows in Ubuntu with VMware Player

    - by Matthew Guay
Are you an enthusiast who loves their Ubuntu Linux experience but still needs to use Windows programs?  Here’s how you can get the full Windows experience on Ubuntu with the free VMware Player. Linux has become increasingly consumer friendly, but still, the wide majority of commercial software is only available for Windows and Macs.  Dual-booting between Windows and Linux has been a popular option for years, but this is a frustrating solution since you have to reboot into the other operating system each time you want to run a specific application.  With virtualization, you’ll never have to make this tradeoff.  VMware Player makes it quick and easy to install any edition of Windows in a virtual machine.  With VMware’s great integration tools, you can copy and paste between your Linux and Windows programs and even run native Windows applications side-by-side with Linux ones. Getting Started Download the latest version of VMware Player for Linux, and select either the 32-bit or 64-bit version, depending on your system.  VMware Player is a free download, but requires registration.  Sign in with your VMware account, or create a new one if you don’t already have one. VMware Player is fairly easy to install on Linux, but you will need to start out the installation from the terminal.  First, enter the following to make sure the installer is marked as executable, substituting version/build_number for the version number on the end of the file you downloaded. chmod +x ./VMware-Player-version/build_number.bundle Then, enter the following to start the install, again substituting your version number: gksudo bash ./VMware-Player-version/build_number.bundle You may have to enter your administrator password to start the installation, and then the VMware Player graphical installer will open.  Choose whether you want to check for product updates and submit usage data to VMware, and then proceed with the install as normal. VMware Player installed in only a few minutes in our tests, and was immediately ready to run, no reboot required.  You can now launch it from your Ubuntu menu: click Applications \ System Tools \ VMware Player. You’ll need to accept the license agreement the first time you run it. Welcome to VMware Player!  Now you can create new virtual machines and run pre-built ones on your Ubuntu desktop. Install Windows in VMware Player on Ubuntu Now that you’ve got VMware setup, it’s time to put it to work.  Click the Create a New Virtual Machine as above to start making a Windows virtual machine. In the dialog that opens, select your installer disk or ISO image file that you want to install Windows from.  In this example, we’re select a Windows 7 ISO.  VMware will automatically detect the operating system on the disk or image.  Click Next to continue. Enter your Windows product key, select the edition of Windows to install, and enter your name and password. You can leave the product key field blank and enter it later.  VMware will ask if you want to continue without a product key, so just click Yes to continue. Now enter a name for your virtual machine and select where you want to save it.  Note: This will take up at least 15Gb of space on your hard drive during the install, so make sure to save it on a drive with sufficient storage space. You can choose how large you want your virtual hard drive to be; the default is 40Gb, but you can choose a different size if you wish.  The entire amount will not be used up on your hard drive initially, but the virtual drive will increase in size up to your maximum as you add files.  Additionally, you can choose if you want the virtual disk stored as a single file or as multiple files.  You will see the best performance by keeping the virtual disk as one file, but the virtual machine will be more portable if it is broken into smaller files, so choose the option that will work best for your needs. Finally, review your settings, and if everything looks good, click Finish to create the virtual machine. VMware will take over now, and install Windows without any further input using its Easy Install.  This is one of VMware’s best features, and is the main reason we find it the easiest desktop virtualization solution to use.   Installing VMware Tools VMware Player doesn’t include the VMware Tools by default; instead, it automatically downloads them for the operating system you’re installing.  Once you’ve downloaded them, it will use those tools anytime you install that OS.  If this is your first Windows virtual machine to install, you may be prompted to download and install them while Windows is installing.  Click Download and Install so your Easy Install will finish successfully. VMware will then download and install the tools.  You may need to enter your administrative password to complete the install. Other than this, you can leave your Windows install unattended; VMware will get everything installed and running on its own. Our test setup took about 30 minutes, and when it was done we were greeted with the Windows desktop ready to use, complete with drivers and the VMware tools.  The only thing missing was the Aero glass feature.  VMware Player is supposed to support the Aero glass effects in virtual machines, and although this works every time when we use VMware Player on Windows, we could not get it to work in Linux.  Other than that, Windows is fully ready to use.  You can copy and paste text, images, or files between Ubuntu and Windows, or simply drag-and-drop files between the two. Unity Mode Using Windows in a window is awkward, and makes your Windows programs feel out of place and hard to use.  This is where Unity mode comes in.  Click Virtual Machine in VMware’s menu, and select Enter Unity. Your Windows desktop will now disappear, and you’ll see a new Windows menu underneath your Ubuntu menu.  This works the same as your Windows Start Menu, and you can open your Windows applications and files directly from it. By default, programs from Windows will have a colored border and a VMware badge in the corner.  You can turn this off from the VMware settings pane.  Click Virtual Machine in VMware’s menu and select Virtual Machine Settings.  Select Unity under the Options tab, and uncheck the Show borders and Show badges boxes if you don’t want them. Unity makes your Windows programs feel at home in Ubuntu.  Here we have Word 2010 and IE8 open beside the Ubuntu Help application.  Notice that the Windows applications show up in the taskbar on the bottom just like the Linux programs.  If you’re using the Compiz graphics effects in Ubuntu, your Windows programs will use them too, including the popular wobbly windows effect. You can switch back to running Windows inside VMware Player’s window by clicking the Exit Unity button in the VMware window. Now, whenever you want to run Windows applications in Linux, you can quickly launch it from VMware Player. Conclusion VMware Player is a great way to run Windows on your Linux computer.  It makes it extremely easy to get Windows installed and running, lets you run your Windows programs seamlessly alongside your Linux ones.  VMware products work great in our experience, and VMware Player on Linux was no exception. • SQL SERVER – Import CSV into Database – Transferring File Content into a Database Table using CSVexpress

    - by pinaldave
One of the most common data integration tasks I run into is a desire to move data from a file into a database table.  Generally the user is familiar with his data, the structure of the file, and the database table, but is unfamiliar with data integration tools and therefore views this task as something that is difficult.  What these users really need is a point and click approach that minimizes the learning curve for the data integration tool.  This is what CSVexpress (www.CSVexpress.com) is all about!  It is based on expressor Studio, a data integration tool I’ve been reviewing over the last several months. With CSVexpress, moving data between data sources can be as simple as providing the database connection details, describing the structure of the incoming and outgoing data and then connecting two pre-programmed operators.   There’s no need to learn the intricacies of the data integration tool or to write code.  Let’s look at an example. Suppose I have a comma separated value data file with data similar to the following, which is a listing of terminated employees that includes their hiring and termination date, department, job description, and final salary. EMP_ID,STRT_DATE,END_DATE,JOB_ID,DEPT_ID,SALARY 102,13-JAN-93,24-JUL-98 17:00,Programmer,60,"$85,000" 101,21-SEP-89,27-OCT-93 17:00,Account Representative,110,"$65,000" 103,28-OCT-93,15-MAR-97 17:00,Account Manager,110,"$75,000" 304,17-FEB-96,19-DEC-99 17:00,Marketing,20,"$45,000" 333,24-MAR-98,31-DEC-99 17:00,Data Entry Clerk,50,"$35,000" 100,17-SEP-87,17-JUN-93 17:00,Administrative Assistant,90,"$40,000" 334,24-MAR-98,31-DEC-98 17:00,Sales Representative,80,"$40,000" 400,01-JAN-99,31-DEC-99 17:00,Sales Manager,80,"$55,000" Notice the concise format used for the date values, the fact that the termination date includes both date and time information, and that the salary is clearly identified as money by the dollar sign and digit grouping.  In moving this data to a database table I want to express the dates using a format that includes the century since it’s obvious that this listing could include employees who left the company in both the 20th and 21st centuries, and I want the salary to be stored as a decimal value without the currency symbol and grouping character.  Most data integration tools would require coding within a transformation operation to effect these changes, but not expressor Studio.  Directives for these modifications are included in the description of the incoming data. Besides starting the expressor Studio tool and opening a project, the first step is to create connection artifacts, which describe to expressor where data is stored.  For this example, two connection artifacts are required: a file connection, which encapsulates the file system location of my file; and a database connection, which encapsulates the database connection information.  With expressor Studio, I use wizards to create these artifacts. First click New Connection > File Connection in the Home tab of expressor Studio’s ribbon bar, which starts the File Connection wizard.  In the first window, I enter the path to the directory that contains the input file.  Note that the file connection artifact only specifies the file system location, not the name of the file. Then I click Next and enter a meaningful name for this connection artifact; clicking Finish closes the wizard and saves the artifact. To create the Database Connection artifact, I must know the location of, or instance name, of the target database and have the credentials of an account with sufficient privileges to write to the target table.  To use expressor Studio’s features to the fullest, this account should also have the authority to create a table. I click the New Connection > Database Connection in the Home tab of expressor Studio’s ribbon bar, which starts the Database Connection wizard.  expressor Studio includes high-performance drivers for many relational database management systems, so I can simply make a selection from the “Supplied database drivers” drop down control.  If my desired RDBMS isn’t listed, I can optionally use an existing ODBC DSN by selecting the “Existing DSN” radio button. In the following window, I enter the connection details.  With Microsoft SQL Server, I may choose to use Windows Authentication rather than rather than account credentials.  After clicking Next, I enter a meaningful name for this connection artifact and clicking Finish closes the wizard and saves the artifact. Now I create a schema artifact, which describes the structure of the file data.  When expressor reads a file, all data fields are typed as strings.  In some use cases this may be exactly what is needed and there is no need to edit the schema artifact.  But in this example, editing the schema artifact will be used to specify how the data should be transformed; that is, reformat the dates to include century designations, change the employee and job ID’s to integers, and convert the salary to a decimal value. Again a wizard is used to create the schema artifact.  I click New Schema > Delimited Schema in the Home tab of expressor Studio’s ribbon bar, which starts the Database Connection wizard.  In the first window, I click Get Data from File, which then displays a listing of the file connections in the project.  When I click on the file connection I previously created, a browse window opens to this file system location; I then select the file and click Open, which imports 10 lines from the file into the wizard. I now view the file’s content and confirm that the appropriate delimiter characters are selected in the “Field Delimiter” and “Record Delimiter” drop down controls; then I click Next. Since the input file includes a header row, I can easily indicate that fields in the file should be identified through the corresponding header value by clicking “Set All Names from Selected Row. “ Alternatively, I could enter a different identifier into the Field Details > Name text box.  I click Next and enter a meaningful name for this schema artifact; clicking Finish closes the wizard and saves the artifact. Now I open the schema artifact in the schema editor.  When I first view the schema’s content, I note that the types of all attributes in the Semantic Type (the right-hand panel) are strings and that the attribute names are the same as the field names in the data file.  To change an attribute’s name and type, I highlight the attribute and click Edit in the Attributes grouping on the Schema > Edit tab of the editor’s ribbon bar.  This opens the Edit Attribute window; I can change the attribute name and select the desired type from the “Data type” drop down control.  In this example, I change the name of each attribute to the name of the corresponding database table column (EmployeeID, StartingDate, TerminationDate, JobDescription, DepartmentID, and FinalSalary).  Then for the EmployeeID and DepartmentID attributes, I select Integer as the data type, for the StartingDate and TerminationDate attributes, I select Datetime as the data type, and for the FinalSalary attribute, I select the Decimal type. But I can do much more in the schema editor.  For the datetime attributes, I can set a constraint that ensures that the data adheres to some predetermined specifications; a starting date must be later than January 1, 1980 (the date on which the company began operations) and a termination date must be earlier than 11:59 PM on December 31, 1999.  I simply select the appropriate constraint and enter the value (1980-01-01 00:00 as the starting date and 1999-12-31 11:59 as the termination date). As a last step in setting up these datetime conversions, I edit the mapping, describing the format of each datetime type in the source file. I highlight the mapping line for the StartingDate attribute and click Edit Mapping in the Mappings grouping on the Schema > Edit tab of the editor’s ribbon bar.  This opens the Edit Mapping window in which I either enter, or select, a format that describes how the datetime values are represented in the file.  Note the use of Y01 as the syntax for the year.  This syntax is the indicator to expressor Studio to derive the century by setting any year later than 01 to the 20th century and any year before 01 to the 21st century.  As each datetime value is read from the file, the year values are transformed into century and year values. For the TerminationDate attribute, my format also indicates that the datetime value includes hours and minutes. And now to the Salary attribute. I open its mapping and in the Edit Mapping window select the Currency tab and the “Use currency” check box.  This indicates that the file data will include the dollar sign (or in Europe the Pound or Euro sign), which should be removed. And on the Grouping tab, I select the “Use grouping” checkbox and enter 3 into the “Group size” text box, a comma into the “Grouping character” text box, and a decimal point into the “Decimal separator” character text box. These entries allow the string to be properly converted into a decimal value. By making these entries into the schema that describes my input file, I’ve specified how I want the data transformed prior to writing to the database table and completely removed the requirement for coding within the data integration application itself. Assembling the data integration application is simple.  Onto the canvas I drag the Read File and Write Table operators, connecting the output of the Read File operator to the input of the Write Table operator. Next, I select the Read File operator and its Properties panel opens on the right-hand side of expressor Studio.  For each property, I can select an appropriate entry from the corresponding drop down control.  Clicking on the button to the right of the “File name” text box opens the file system location specified in the file connection artifact, allowing me to select the appropriate input file.  I indicate also that the first row in the file, the header row, should be skipped, and that any record that fails one of the datetime constraints should be skipped. I then select the Write Table operator and in its Properties panel specify the database connection, normal for the “Mode,” and the “Truncate” and “Create Missing Table” options.  If my target table does not yet exist, expressor will create the table using the information encapsulated in the schema artifact assigned to the operator. The last task needed to complete the application is to create the schema artifact used by the Write Table operator.  This is extremely easy as another wizard is capable of using the schema artifact assigned to the Read Table operator to create a schema artifact for the Write Table operator.  In the Write Table Properties panel, I click the drop down control to the right of the “Schema” property and select “New Table Schema from Upstream Output…” from the drop down menu. The wizard first displays the table description and in its second screen asks me to select the database connection artifact that specifies the RDBMS in which the target table will exist.  The wizard then connects to the RDBMS and retrieves a list of database schemas from which I make a selection.  The fourth screen gives me the opportunity to fine tune the table’s description.  In this example, I set the width of the JobDescription column to a maximum of 40 characters and select money as the type of the LastSalary column.  I also provide the name for the table. This completes development of the application.  The entire application was created through the use of wizards and the required data transformations specified through simple constraints and specifications rather than through coding.  To develop this application, I only needed a basic understanding of expressor Studio, a level of expertise that can be gained by working through a few introductory tutorials.  expressor Studio is as close to a point and click data integration tool as one could want and I urge you to try this product if you have a need to move data between files or from files to database tables. Check out CSVexpress in more detail.  It offers a few basic video tutorials and a preview of expressor Studio 3.5, which will support the reading and writing of data into Salesforce.com. • Hi, I have a C hashing routine which is behaving strangely?

    - by aks
Hi, In this hashing routine: 1.) I am able to add strings. 2.) I am able to view my added strings. 3.) When i try to add a duplicate string, it throws me an error saying already present. 4.) But, when i try to delete the same string which is already present in hash table, then the lookup_routine calls hash function to get an index. At this time, it throws a different hash index to the one it was already added. Hence, my delete routine is failing? I am able to understand the reason why for same string, hash fucntion calculates a different index each time (whereas the same logic works in view hash table routine)? Can someone help me? • Sync Your Pidgin Profile Across Multiple PCs with Dropbox

    - by Matthew Guay
Pidgin is definitely our favorite universal chat client, but adding all of your chat accounts to multiple computers can be frustrating.  Here’s how you can easily transfer your Pidgin settings to other computers and keep them in sync using Dropbox. Getting Started Make sure you have both Pidgin and Dropbox installed on any computers you want to sync.  To sync Pidgin, you need to: Move your Pidgin profile folder on your first computer to Dropbox Create a symbolic link from the new folder in Dropbox to your old profile location Delete the default pidgin profile on your other computer, and create a symbolic link from your Dropbox Pidgin profile to the default Pidgin profile location This sounds difficult, but it’s actually easy if you follow these steps.  Here we already had all of our accounts setup in Pidgin in Windows 7, and then synced this profile with an Ubuntu and a XP computer with fresh Pidgin installs.  Our instructions for each OS are based on this, but just swap the sync order if your main Pidgin install is in XP or Ubuntu. Please Note:  Please make sure Pidgin isn’t running on your computer while you are making the changes! Sync Your Pidgin Profile from Windows 7 Here is Pidgin with our accounts already setup.  Our Pidgin profile has a Gtalk, MSN Messenger, and Facebook Chat account, and lots of log files. Let’s move this profile to Dropbox to keep it synced.  Exit Pidgin, and then enter %appdata% in the address bar in Explorer or press Win+R and enter %appdata%.  Select the .purple folder, which is your Pidgin profiles and settings folder, and press Ctrl+X to cut it. Browse to your Dropbox folder, and press Ctrl+V to paste the .purple folder there. Now we need to create the symbolic link.  Enter  “command” in your Start menu search, right-click on the Command Prompt shortcut, and select “Run as administrator”. We can now use the mklink command to create a symbolic link to the .purple folder.  In Command Prompt, enter the following and substitute username for your own username. mklink /D “C:\Users\username\Documents\My Dropbox\.purple” “C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\.purple” And that’s it!  You can open Pidgin now to make sure it still works as before, with your files being synced with Dropbox. Please Note:  These instructions work the same for Windows Vista.  Also, if you are syncing settings from another computer to Windows 7, then delete the .purple folder instead of cutting and pasting it, and reverse the order of the file paths when creating the symbolic link. Add your Pidgin Profile to Ubuntu Our Ubuntu computer had a clean install of Pidgin, so we didn’t need any of the information in its settings.  If you’ve run Pidgin, even without creating an account, you will need to first remove its settings folder.  Open your home folder, and click View, and then “Show Hidden Files” to see your settings folders. Select the .purple folder, and delete it. Now, to create the symbolic link, open Terminal and enter the following, substituting username for your username: ln –s /home/username/Dropbox/.purple /home/username/ Open Pidgin, and you will see all of your accounts that were on your other computer.  No usernames or passwords needed; everything is setup and ready to go.  Even your status is synced; we had our status set to Away in Windows 7, and it automatically came up the same in Ubuntu. Please Note: If your primary Pidgin account is in Ubuntu, then cut your .purple folder and paste it into your Dropbox folder instead.  Then, when creating the symbolic link, reverse the order of the folder paths. Add your Pidgin Profile to Windows XP In XP we also had a clean install of Pidgin.  If you’ve run Pidgin, even without creating an account, you will need to first remove its settings folder.  Click Start, the Run, and enter %appdata%. Delete your .purple folder. XP does not include a way to create a symbolic link, so we will use the free Junction tool from Sysinternals.  Download Junction (link below) and unzip the folder. • EF Code First to SQL Azure

    - by Predrag Pejic
I am using EF Code First to create a database on local .\SQLEXPRESS. Among others. I have these 2 classes: public class Shop { public int ShopID { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a name!")] [MaxLength(25, ErrorMessage = "Name must be 25 characters or less")] public string Name { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter an address!")] [MaxLength(30, ErrorMessage = "Address must be 30 characters or less")] public string Address { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a valid city name!")] [MaxLength(30, ErrorMessage = "City name must be 30 characters or less")] public string City { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a phone number!")] [MaxLength(14, ErrorMessage = "Phone number must be 14 characters or less")] public string Phone { get; set; } [MaxLength(100, ErrorMessage = "Description must be 50 characters or less")] public string Description { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a WorkTime!")] public DateTime WorkTimeBegin { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a WorkTime!")] public DateTime WorkTimeEnd { get; set; } public DateTime? SaturdayWorkTimeBegin { get; set; } public DateTime? SaturdayWorkTimeEnd { get; set; } public DateTime? SundayWorkTimeBegin { get; set; } public DateTime? SundayWorkTimeEnd { get; set; } public int ShoppingPlaceID { get; set; } public virtual ShoppingPlace ShoppingPlace { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Category> Categories { get; set; } } public class ShoppingPlace { [Key] public int ShopingplaceID { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a name!")] [MaxLength(25, ErrorMessage = "Name must be 25 characters or less")] public string Name { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter an address!")] [MaxLength(50, ErrorMessage = "Address must be 50 characters or less")] public string Address { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a city name!")] [MaxLength(30, ErrorMessage = "City must be 30 characters or less")] public string City { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a valid phone number!")] [MaxLength(14, ErrorMessage = "Phone number must be 14 characters or less")] public string Phone { get; set; } public int ShoppingCenterID { get; set; } public virtual ShoppingCenter ShoppingCenter { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Shop> Shops { get; set; } } and a method in DbContext: modelBuilder.Entity<Item>() .HasRequired(p => p.Category) .WithMany(a => a.Items) .HasForeignKey(a => a.CategoryID) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); modelBuilder.Entity<Category>() .HasRequired(a => a.Shop) .WithMany(a => a.Categories) .HasForeignKey(a => a.ShopID) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); modelBuilder.Entity<Shop>() .HasOptional(a => a.ShoppingPlace) .WithMany(a => a.Shops) .HasForeignKey(a => a.ShoppingPlaceID) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); modelBuilder.Entity<ShoppingPlace>() .HasOptional(a => a.ShoppingCenter) .WithMany(a => a.ShoppingPlaces) .HasForeignKey(a => a.ShoppingCenterID) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); Why I can't create Shop without creating and populating ShopingPlace. How to achieve that? EDIT: Tried with: modelBuilder.Entity<Shop>() .HasOptional(a => a.ShoppingPlace) .WithOptionalPrincipal(); modelBuilder.Entity<ShoppingPlace>() .HasOptional(a => a.ShoppingCenter) .WithOptionalPrincipal(); and it passed, but what is the difference? And why in SQL Server i am allowed to see ShoppingPlaceID and ShoppingPlace_ShopingPlaceID when in the case of Item and Category i see only one?

  • Bash Shell; read command; using Cygwin on Windows 7

    - by user312397
Okay so I am having this problem. I write up a script to be run in cygwin on Windows. I've tried a bunch of basic example scripts in case it was my scripts problem. So I tried this: #!/bin/bash echo -e "Enter your name and press [ENTER]: \c" read var_name echo "Your name is: $var_name" Then I will run it and I enter a name for var_name. I get this: $ ./project1.sh Enter your name and press [ENTER]: Jake ': not a valid identifierad: `var_name Your name is: So as far as I understand it I am having a problem with read. I am trying to work on a project for my class, but I can't seem to figure out why it won't read it. I followed the book with no triumph then resorted to these examples on the web that do not seem to work for me either. Does anyone have any idea if it is my setup or if I am missing something, thanks.

  • how to insert date in mysql table

    - by mithun1538
Hello everyone, I have a mysql table called pollOfTheWeek. It has a column "pollDate" of type date. I have two questions regarding this : 1. I declared the column while creating the table as [pollDate date] What I wanted is that this column be set automatically, when the user doesnt enter any value for this column. How do i declare the column to achieve this? Assuming that I have the same declaration as above, how do I enter an empty value. I mean if the column was of type varchar, I would enter empty value as " ". But since it is of type date, I get error when I enter the value as " ". How do I enter empty value for the pollDate column?

  • can i add textfields in the code other than in the init?

    - by themanepalli
    Im a 15 year old noob to java. I am trying to make a basic program trader that asks for the stock price, the stock name, the stock market value and the type of order. Based on the type of order, i want a new textfield to appear. do i have to add the textfield in the init first or can i do it in the action performed. I googled someother ones but they are a little too complicated for me. heres my code. import java.awt.*; import java.applet.*; // import an extra class for the ActionListener import java.awt.event.*; public class mathFair extends Applet implements ActionListener { TextField stockPrice2; TextField stockName2; TextField orderType2; TextField marketValue2; TextField buyOrder2; TextField sellOrder2; TextField limitOrder2; TextField stopLossOrder2; Label stockPrice1; Label stockName1; Label orderType1; Label marketValue1; Label buyOrder1; Label sellOrder1; Label limitOrder1; Label stopLossOrder1; Button calculate; public void init() { stockPrice1 = new Label ("Enter Stock Price:"); stockName1 = new Label ("Enter Name of Stock: "); orderType1 = new Label ("Enter Type of Order: 1 for Buy, 2 for Sell, 3 for Stop Loss, 4 for Limit"); marketValue1= new Label("Enter The Current Price Of The Market"); stopLossOrder1 = new Label ("Enter The Lowest Price The Stock Can Go"); limitOrder1 = new Label ("Enter The Highest Price The Stock Can Go"); stockPrice2 = new TextField (35); stockName2 = new TextField (35); orderType2 = new TextField (35); marketValue2= new TextField(35); calculate= new Button("Start The Simulation"); add (stockPrice1); add (stockPrice2); add (stockName1); add (stockName2); add (marketValue1); ; add(marketValue2); add (orderType1); add (orderType2); add(calculate); ; calculate.addActionListener(this); } public void actionPerformed (ActionEvent e) { String stock= stockPrice2.getText(); int stockPrice= Integer.parseInt(stock); stockPrice2.setText(stockPrice +""); String marketV= marketValue2.getText(); int marketValue= Integer.parseInt(marketV); marketValue2.setText(marketValue+""); String orderT= orderType2.getText(); int orderType= Integer.parseInt(orderT); orderType2.setText(orderType+""); if((e.getSource()==calculate)&& (orderType==1)) { buyOrder2= new TextField(35); buyOrder1 = new Label("Enter Price You Would Like To Buy At"); add(buyOrder2); add(buyOrder1); } else if((e.getSource()==calculate)&& (orderType==2)) { sellOrder2= new TextField(35); sellOrder1 = new Label("Enter Price You Would Like To Sell At"); add(sellOrder2); add(sellOrder1); } else if((e.getSource()==calculate)&& (orderType==3)) { stopLossOrder2= new TextField(35); stopLossOrder1=new Label("Enter The Lowest Price The Stock Can Go"); add(stopLossOrder2); add(stopLossOrder1); } else if((e.getSource()==calculate)&& (orderType==4)) { limitOrder2=new TextField(35); limitOrder1= new Label("Enter the Highest Price The Stock Can Go"); add(limitOrder2); add(limitOrder1);; } } }

  • How to Add Your Gmail Account to Outlook 2013 Using IMAP

    - by Lori Kaufman
If you use Outlook to check and manage your email, you can easily use it to check your Gmail account as well. You can setup your Gmail account to allow you to synchronize email across multiple machines using email clients instead of a browser. We will show you how to use IMAP in your Gmail account so you can synchronize your Gmail account across multiple machines, and then how to add your Gmail account to Outlook 2013. To setup your Gmail account to use IMAP, sign in to your Gmail account and go to Mail. Click the Settings button in the upper, right corner of the window and select Settings from the drop-down menu. On the Settings screen, click Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Scroll down to the IMAP Access section and select Enable IMAP. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the screen. Close your browser and open Outlook. To begin adding your Gmail account, click the File tab. On the Account Information screen, click Add Account. On the Add Account dialog box, you can choose the E-mail Account option which automatically sets up your Gmail account in Outlook. To do this enter your name, email address, and the password for your Gmail account twice. Click Next. The progress of the setup displays. The automatic process may or may not work. If the automatic process fails, select Manual setup or additional server types, instead of E-mail Account, and click Next. On the Choose Service screen, select POP or IMAP and click Next. On the POP and IMAP Account Settings enter the User, Server, and Logon Information. For the Server Information, select IMAP from the Account Type drop-down list and enter the following for the incoming and outgoing server information: Incoming mail server: imap.googlemail.com Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.googlemail.com Make sure you enter your full email address for the User Name and select Remember password if you want Outlook to automatically log you in when checking email. Click More Settings. On the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box, click the Outgoing Server tab. Select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and make sure the Use same settings as my incoming mail server option is selected. While still in the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box, click the Advanced tab. Enter the following information: Incoming server: 993 Incoming server encrypted connection: SSL Outgoing server encrypted connection TLS Outgoing server: 587 NOTE: You need to select the type of encrypted connection for the outgoing server before entering 587 for the Outgoing server (SMTP) port number. If you enter the port number first, the port number will revert back to port 25 when you change the type of encrypted connection. Click OK to accept your changes and close the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box. Click Next. Outlook tests the accounts settings by logging into the incoming mail server and sending a test email message. When the test is finished, click Close. You should see a screen saying “You’re all set!”. Click Finish. Your Gmail address displays in the account list on the left with any other email addresses you have added to Outlook. Click the Inbox to see what’s in your Inbox in your Gmail account. Because you’re using IMAP in your Gmail account and you used IMAP to add the account to Outlook, the messages and folders in Outlook reflect what’s in your Gmail account. Any changes you make to folders and any time you move email messages among folders in Outlook, the same changes are made in your Gmail account, as you will see when you log into your Gmail account in a browser. This works the other way as well. Any changes you make to the structure of your account (folders, etc.) in a browser will be reflected the next time you log into your Gmail account in Outlook.

  • Problem with creating a deterministic finite automata (DFA) - Mercury

    - by Jabba The hut
I would like to have a deterministic finite automata (DFA) simulated in Mercury. But I’m s(t)uck at several places. Formally, a DFA is described with the following characteristics: a setOfStates S, an inputAlphabet E <-- summation symbol, a transitionFunction : S × E -- S, a startState s € S, a setOfAcceptableFinalStates F =C S. A DFA will always starts in the start state. Then the DFA will read all the characters on the input, one by one. Based on the current input character and the current state, there will be made to a new state. These transitions are defined in the transitions function. when the DFA is in one of his acceptable final states, after reading the last character, then will the DFA accept the input, If not, then the input will be is rejected. The figure shows a DFA the accepting strings where the amount of zeros, is a plurality of three. Condition 1 is the initial state, and also the only acceptable state. for each input character is the corresponding arc followed to the next state. Link to Figure What must be done A type “mystate” which represents a state. Each state has a number which is used for identification. A type “transition” that represents a possible transition between states. Each transition has a source_state, an input_character, and a final_state. A type “statemachine” that represents the entire DFA. In the solution, the DFA must have the following properties: The set of all states, the input alphabet, a transition function, represented as a set of possible transitions, a set of accepting final states, a current state of the DFA A predicate “init_machine (state machine :: out)” which unifies his arguments with the DFA, as shown as in the Figure. The current state for the DFA is set to his initial state, namely, 1. The input alphabet of the DFA is composed of the characters '0'and '1'. A user can enter a text, which will be controlled by the DFA. the program will continues until the user types Ctrl-D and simulates an EOF. If the user use characters that are not allowed into the input alphabet of the DFA, then there will be an error message end the program will close. • GIT vs. Perforce- Two VCS will enter... one will leave.

    - by Justin Bozonier
So I'm in the process of getting GIT sold at work. First thing I need is to convince everyone that GIT is better at what they're already used to doing. We currently use Perforce. Anybody else go through a similar sale? Any good links/advice? One of the big wins is that we can worth with it disconnected from the network. Another win imo is the way adds/checkouts are handled. More points are welcome! Also we have about 10-20 devs total.

  • On android how would I go about creating a prompt for an app that requires a user to enter a username before fully launching the app?

    - by racl101
I'll preface this with I'm really new to working on Android. So I have to work on an existing app and create a screen that prompts the user for a username if one isn't entered then it won't launch the currently existing main activity (i.e. it won't fully launch the app. Instead it will just sit on that screen until a username is entered.) I suppose that it's tantamount to a web app login page in that it will not let a user past that page if the user is not authenticated and authorized. However, there's no authentication nor authorization in this app. Instead, on first run a user must simply register with a username and that username gets saved to the database and for any subsequent runs the app's main activity will just start because a user has registered to that phone. In fact, the app will not prompt the user for their name again unless the app gets deleted with all its data and reinstalled again. This implicitly means that I have to save the user's name in the database or some other kind of storage. So I was wondering what would be the best way of doing this in an app with an existing main activity? Should I try to accomplish this on that existing main activity or create a new activity to display this prompt screen and, in effect, block the main activity from running until the user enters their name? Any tutorials or links would be helpful and thank you in advance for any help.

  • PHP, MySQL: mysql substitute for php in_array function

    - by Devner
Hi all, Say if I have an array and I want to check if an element is a part of that array, I can go ahead and use in_array( needle, haystack ) to determine the results. I am trying to see the PHP equivalent of this for my purpose. Now you might have an instant answer for me and you might be tempted to say "Use IN". Yes, I can use IN, but that's not fetching the desired results. Let me explain with an example: I have a column called "pets" in DB table. For a record, it has a value: Cat, dog, Camel (Yes, the column data is a comma separated value). Consider that this row has an id of 1. Now I have a form where I can enter the value in the form input and use that value check against the value in the DB. So say I enter the following comma separated value in the form input: CAT, camel (yes, CAT is uppercase & intentional as some users tend to enter it that way). Now when I enter the above info in the form input and submit, I can collect the POST'ed info and use the following query: $search = $_POST['pets']; $sql = "SELECT id FROM table WHERE pets IN ('$search') "; The above query is not fetching me the row that already exists in the DB (remember the record which has Cat, dog, Camel as the value for the pets column?). I am trying to get the records to act as a superset and the values from the form input as subsets. So in this case I am expecting the id value to show up as the values exist in the column, but this is not happending. Now say if I enter just CAT as the form input and perform the search, it should show me the ID 1 row. Now say if I enter just camel, cAT as the form input and perform the search, it should show me the ID 1 row. How can I achieve the above? Thank you.

  • Ruby - calling constructor without arguments & removal of new line characters

I am a newbie at Ruby, I have written down a sample program. I dont understand the following: Why constructor without any arguments are not called in Ruby? How do we access the class variable outside the class' definition? Why does it always append newline characters at the end of the string? How do we strip it? Code: class Employee attr_reader :empid attr_writer :empid attr_writer :name def name return @name.upcase end attr_accessor :salary @@employeeCount = 0 def initiaze() @@employeeCount += 1 puts ("Initialize called!") end def getCount return @@employeeCount end end anEmp = Employee.new print ("Enter new employee name: ") anEmp.name = gets() print ("Enter #{anEmp.name}'s employee ID: ") anEmp.empid = gets() print ("Enter salary for #{anEmp.name}: ") anEmp.salary = gets() theEmpName = anEmp.name.split.join("\n") theEmpID = anEmp.empid.split.join("\n") theEmpSalary = anEmp.salary.split.join("\n") anEmp = Employee.new() anEmp = Employee.new() theCount = anEmp.getCount puts ("New employee #{theEmpName} with employee ID #{theEmpID} has been enrolled, welcome to hell!
